Quotients of orders in algebras obtained from skew polynomials with applications to coding theory

We describe families of nonassociative finite unital rings that occur as quotients of natural nonassociative orders in generalized nonassociative cyclic division algebras over number fields. These natural orders have already been used to systematically construct fully diverse fast-decodable space-time block codes. We show how the quotients of natural orders can be employed for coset coding. Previous results by Oggier and Sethuraman involving quotients of orders in associative cyclic division algebras are obtained as special cases.

On free group algebras in division rings with uncountable center

Derivations of CDC algebras

A CDC algebra is a reflexive operator algebra whose lattice is completely distributive and commutative. Nearly twenty years ago, Gilfeather and Moore obtained a necessary and sufficient condition for an isomorphism between CDC algebras to be quasi-spatial. In this paper, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for a derivation δ of CDC algebras to be quasi-spatial. Namely, δ is quasi-spatial if and only if δ(R) maps the kernel of R into the range of R for each finite rank operator R. Some examples are presented to show the sharpness of the condition. We also establish a sufficient condition on the lattice that guarantees that every derivation is quasi-spatial.     

Derivations of noncommutative Arens algebras

The present paper deals with derivations of noncommutative Arens algebras. We prove that every derivation of an Arens algebra associated with a von Neumann algebra and a faithful normal finite trace is inner. In particular, each derivation on such algebras is automatically continuous in the natural topology, and in the commutative case, even for semi-finite traces, all derivations are identically zero. At the same time, the existence of noninner derivations is proved for noncommutative Arens algebras with a semi-finite but nonfinite trace.     

Some Simple Derivations of k[x,y]

It is shown that the derivation y ^r ? _x  + (xy ^s  + g)? _y , where 0 ≤ r < s are integers, is a simple derivation of k[x, y], the polynomial ring in two variables over a field k of characteristic zero.     

Simplicity of Some Derivations of k[x,y]

If k is a field of characteristic zero, c ∈ k?0, and 1 ≤ s ≤ r are integers such that either r ? s + 1 divides s or s divides r ? s + 1, then it is shown that the derivation y ^r ? _x  + (xy ^s  + c)? _y of the polynomial ring k[x, y] is simple.     

A Class of Simple Derivations of k[x,y]

If k is a field of characteristic zero, c ∈ k?{0}, s, t ≥ 1, and r ≥ 0 are integers, then it is shown that the k-derivation y ^r ? _x  + (y ^s x ^t  + c)? _y of the polynomial algebra k[x, y] is simple.     

Amenability properties of the centres of group algebras

Let G be a locally compact group, and ZL¹(G) be the centre of its group algebra. We show that when G is compact ZL¹(G) is not amenable when G is either non-abelian and connected, or is a product of infinitely many finite non-abelian groups. We also, study, for some non-compact groups G, some conditions which imply amenability and hyper-Tauberian property, for ZL¹(G).     

Derivations of generalized Weyl algebras

A class of the associative and Lie algebras A[D] = A F[D] of Weyl type are studied, where A is a commutative associative algebra with an identity element over a field F of characteristic zero, and F[D] is the polynomial algebra of a finite dimensional commutative subalgebra of locally finite derivations of A such that A is D-simple. The derivations of these associative and Lie algebras are precisely determined.     

Tame group actions on central simple algebras

We study actions of linear algebraic groups on finite-dimensional central simple algebras. We describe the fixed algebra for a broad class of such actions.     

Derivations and isomorphisms of certain reflexive operator algebras

In this paper, we will prove that every derivation of completely distributive subspace lattice (CDS) algebras on Banach space is automatically continuous. This is new even in the Hilbert space case. As an application of this result, we obtain that every additive derivation of nest algebras on Banach spaces is inne. We will also prove that every isomorphism between nest algebras on Banach space is automatically continuous, and in addition, is spatial. Research supported by NSF of China and YSF of Shandong     

Stably Calabi-Yau algebras and skew group algebras

Let G be a finite group and A be a finite-dimensional selfinjective algebra over an algebraically closed field. Suppose A is a left G-module algebra. Some suficient conditions for the skew group algebra AG to be stably Calabi-Yau are provided, and some new examples of stably Calabi-Yau algebras are given as well.     

An upper bound for the representation dimension of group algebras with elementary abelian Sylow p-subgroups

Abstract

In this article, we present an upper bound on the representation dimension of the group algebra of a group with an elementary abelian Sylow p-subgroup. Specifically, if k is a field of characteristic p and G is a group with elementary abelian Sylow p-subgroup P, we prove that the representation dimension of kG is bounded above by the order of P. Key to proving this theorem is the separable equivalence between the two algebras and some nice properties of Mackey decomposition.     

Contractive projections on Banach algebras

In this paper, we explore the properties of projections of norm one on general Banach algebras, in particular the relation with conditional expectations for algebras which arise in harmonic analysis.     

Irreducible representations of general group algebras and their applications

In this paper we obtain some properties of irreducible representations of general group algebras, then as applications, we extend Gluck-Wolf Theorem for ordinary characters to the case of Brauer characters; we investigate the relations between the degree of an indecomposable module and that of its source.
