Images of locally compact metric spaces

We establish relationships between locally compact-metric spaces and all kinds of spaces with mk-system (compact k-network) by means of compact-covering mappings, quotient mapping and closed mappings. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.

Compact images of spaces with a weaker metric topology

If X is a space that can be mapped onto a metric space by a one-to-one mapping, then X is said to have a weaker metric topology. In this paper, we give characterizations of sequence-covering compact images and sequentially-quotient compact images of spaces with a weaker metric topology. The main results are that (1) Y is a sequence-covering compact image of a space with a weaker metric topology if and only if Y has a sequence of point-finite cs-covers such that for each y ∈ Y. (2) Y is a sequentially-quotient compact image of a space with a weaker metric topology if and only if Y has a sequence of point-finite cs*-covers such that for each y ∈ Y. Open finite-to-one images of metric spaces

We give a characterization of open finite-to-one images of metric spaces and apply this characterization in the investigation of open finite-to-one images of paracompact p-spaces.     

Notes on certain quotient images of paracompact locally compact spaces

We continue to study the characterizations of paracompact locally compact spaces under certain quotient mappings, and discuss the relationships among them, which expand the results on certain quotient images of paracompact locally compact spaces. Open subspaces of locally compact metric spaces

Although classically every open subspace of a locally compact space is also locally compact, constructively this is not generally true. This paper provides a locally compact remetrization for an open set in a compact metric space and constructs a one-point compactification. MSC: 54D45, 03F60, 03F65.     

Generic properties of compact metric spaces

We prove that there is a residual subset of the Gromov-Hausdorff space (i.e. the space of all compact metric spaces up to isometry endowed with the Gromov-Hausdorff distance) whose elements enjoy several unexpected properties. In particular, they have zero lower box dimension and infinite upper box dimension.     

A note on the perturbations of compact quantum metric spaces

In this short note,we consider the perturbation of compact quantum metric spaces.We first show that for two compact quantum metric spaces(A,P) and(B,Q) for which A and B are subspaces of an order-unit space C and P and Q are Lip-norms on A and B respectively,the quantum Gromov–Hausdorff distance between(A,P) and(B,Q) is small under certain conditions.Then some other perturbation results on compact quantum metric spaces derived from spectral triples are also given.

csf可数空间的注记

讨论csf可数空间的性质,把csf可数空间刻画为度量空间的映像,同时探讨了伪紧的csf可数空间的第一可数性质,推广了Arhangel’skiˇ?关于度量空间伪开s映像的结果,证明了正则伪紧的仿拓扑群是可度量化的当且仅当它是csf可数的Fr′echet空间.     

On the homology of locally compact spaces with ends

We propose a homology theory for locally compact spaces with ends in which the ends play a special role. The approach is motivated by results for graphs with ends, where it has been highly successful. But it was unclear how the original graph-theoretical definition could be captured in the usual language for homology theories, so as to make it applicable to more general spaces. In this paper we provide such a general topological framework: we define a homology theory which satisfies the usual axioms, but which maintains the special role for ends that has made this homology work so well for graphs.     

Weak axioms of choice for metric spaces

In the framework of ZF, i.e., Zermelo-Fraenkel set theory without the axiom of choice AC, we show that if the family of all non-empty, closed subsets of a metric space has a choice function, then so does the family of all non-empty, open subsets of . In addition, we establish that the converse is not provable in ZF.

We also show that the statement ``every subspace of the real line with the standard topology has a choice function for its family of all closed, non-empty subsets" is equivalent to the weak choice form ``every continuum sized family of non-empty subsets of reals has a choice function".

     

The structure of measurable mappings with values in locally convex spaces

The purpose of this paper is to show that a theorem of A. Wisniewski remains valid without the approximation property.

     

Common fixed points for discontinuous mappings in fuzzy metric spaces

In this paper we prove some common fixed point theorems for fuzzy contraction respect to a mapping, which satisfies a condition of weak compatibility. We deduce also fixed point results for fuzzy contractive mappings in the sense of Gregori and Sapena. The authors are supported by Università degli Studi di Palermo, R. S. ex 60%.     

A Ramsey theorem for metric spaces

We show the Ramsey property of the metric spaces $(V,d)$ where $1\le d(x,y)\le 3$ ($x\ne y$).     

On similarity homogeneous locally compact spaces with intrinsic metric

In this article, we generalize partially the theorem of V. N. Berestovskii on characterization of similarity homogeneous (nonhomogeneous) Riemannian manifolds, i.e., Riemannian manifolds admitting transitive group of metric similarities other than motions to the case of locally compact similarity homogeneous (nonhomogeneous) spaces with intrinsic metric satisfying the additional assumption that the canonically conformally equivalent homogeneous space is δ-homogeneous or a space of curvature bounded below in the sense of A. D. Aleksandrov. Under the same assumptions, we prove the conjecture of V. N. Berestovskii on topological structure of such spaces.     

关于rectifiable空间中的局部(序列)连通性的几个注记

给出连通的rectifiable空间是局部序列连通(或局部连通)的刻画,推广了拓扑群中的相应结果;利用rectifiable空间G中e的局部邻域基给出G是局部连通(或局部序列连通)的刻画;证明了若A是rectifiable空间G中的序列开子集,那么H=A是G的序列开rectifiable子空间.     

Isometric embeddings of compact spaces into Banach spaces

We show the existence of a compact metric space K such that whenever K embeds isometrically into a Banach space Y, then any separable Banach space is linearly isometric to a subspace of Y. We also address the following related question: if a Banach space Y contains an isometric copy of the unit ball or of some special compact subset of a separable Banach space X, does it necessarily contain a subspace isometric to X? We answer positively this question when X is a polyhedral finite-dimensional space, c₀ or ?₁.     

Canonical measures on the moduli spaces of compact Riemann surfaces

We study some explicit relations between the canonical line bundle and the Hodge bundle over moduli spaces for low genus. This leads to a natural measure on the moduli space of every genus which is related to the Siegel symplectic metric on Siegel upper half-space as well as to the Hodge metric on the Hodge bundle.     

Coarse embeddings of metric spaces into Banach spaces

There are several characterizations of coarse embeddability of locally finite metric spaces into a Hilbert space. In this note we give such characterizations for general metric spaces. By applying these results to the spaces , we get their coarse embeddability into a Hilbert space for . This together with a theorem by Banach and Mazur yields that coarse embeddability into and into are equivalent when . A theorem by G.Yu and the above allow us to extend to , , the range of spaces, coarse embeddings into which is guaranteed for a finitely generated group to satisfy the Novikov Conjecture.
