The paper deals with the determination of the frequency dependence of the acoustic resistance, of the structure factor, the porosity factor and the constant giving whether the process in the propagation of sound in porous materials with a rigid skeleton is isothermal, adiabatic or polytropic. The latter dependence enables a conclusion to be reached on the energy relations during sound propagation in porous materials.The derivation of the wave resistance and of the constant of wave propagation in a porous material with a rigid skeleton is given and a method described for calculating the constants characterizing the material on the basis of measurements of the wave resistance and the acoustic impedance of the material. The calculation was carried out for felt and it was found that the acoustic resistance and structure factor depends on the frequency and that the process at low frequencies approaches the isothermal and at high frequency the adiabatic. It is shown that the structure factor is not equal to unity even in order of magnitude, as is often assumed in the literature. It is shown that for a complete knowledge of the acoustic resistance necessary for the calculations it is not enough to determine it by the static method.

From the viewpoint of critical stability, we discuss the three- and four-body structure of 6He, 7He, 4He, and 4H. With the + + N three-body model, 6He is found to have a three-layer structure of the matter distribution: core, a skin and neutron halo. Also the level structure of 7He with the three-body model of 5He + n + n is predicted. This stimulates a new study of neutron-rich and proton-rich hypernuclei. By performing a four-body calculation with both NNN and NNN channels and with both NN and NNN channels, we show that the N-N and -N couplings are very important in critical stability of few-body hypernuclear systems.  相似文献

In this paper the magnetic properties of ferromagnetic thin layers are studied by calculating the partition function for the magnetic system inKirkwood's approximation of the second order. The results obtained for the Curie temperature and the magnetization are in somewhat better agreement with the experiment than those obtained by Valenta.

The first part of the paper gives a general equation for triple-crystal arrangement with perfect crystals on the assumption that the third crystal is rotated. It is shown that in the case of perfect crystals the shape of the reflection curve is practically independent of the vertical divergence. The case of mosaic crystals is also solved and the possibility of rotation by other than the third crystal is considered. A method is proposed for investigating the imperfection of a crystal which is different from methods used up to now. The paper is supplemented by some experimental results.

The characteristic function is introduced, describing completely the monochromating effect of monochromating units. Expressions for this function are presented for monochromating units frequently used. An example of computation for Johansson's unit shows the conditions in a special case. The curves indicating the shift of the wavelength centroid of monochromated radiation for crystals of different perfection allow conclusions to be drawn about the influence of the alignment of the crystal on precision measurements of lattice constants. The experiments verify the suggested model. The computations for a given experimental arrangement permit a simple determination of the effective breadth of the reflection curve, if a distance of two suitably chosen diffraction lines of a polycrystalline specimen is measured. Finally, it was found experimentally that a small elastic bending does not essentially alter the reflection curve of highly elastic and imperfect crystals unless macroscopic distortions are present.

Single crystals of BaTiO3, prepared by crystallization in the system BaCl2-BaO-BaTiO3-show a dependence of the optical absorption coefficient on the sample thickness. The observed thickness dependence of the absorption coefficient can be explained by the existence of a surface layer with optical properties differing from those of the inner part of the crystal. By means of an etching method a direct determination of the thickness of the surface layer of crystals in the thickness range of 0.075 to 0.178 mm was carried out. The value found is (6.0±0.2)×10-4 cm.

As is known, the second approximation in the calculation of the partition function by the traces method of ferromagnetic thin films gives wrong results for the coordination number equal to eight. In order to obtain correct results even for this case, the third order approximation of the partition function is developed and thus the magnetic properties of body-centred cubic iron thin films are studied. The dependence of the Curie temperature on the thickness, for different values of the ratio between the anisotropy constant and the exchange energy between two neighbours, is discussed. A value can be chosen for this ratio such that the thin film becomes ferromagnetic only for a thickness greater than a definite value.

The potentials of an electromagnetic field of multipoles in a dielectric, which is realized by a dielectric sphere having a perfectly conducting surface, are derived. The diagonal values of the energy for thez component of the angular momentum and the square of the angular momentum of the field are determined and also the ratio between thez component of the angular momentum and the energy and the ratio between the square of the angular momentum and the square of the energy. It is shown that the total angular momentum can be divided in the usual way into orbital and spin parts but that these parts cannot be interpreted as the orbital and spin angular momentum because their eigenvalues cannot be the eigenvalues of any operator of infinitesimal rotation. In the commutation rules of a multipole field the vector character of the field is to a certain extent suppressed and the spin of the photon in a state with a certain value of the energy, parityz component of the angular momentum and the square of the angular momentum is not defined.

The brightness waves of electroluminescence of ZnS—Cu were measured for the case of excitation with rectangular pulses as a function of the amplitude of the pulses and the temperature. A concrete model is proposed for electronic processes in barriers in ZnS crystals, the consequences of which for the decay of electroluminescence are in agreement with measurements.

A new method is proposed for calculating the energy in certain special points of the Brillouin zone. The wave functions of valence and conduction electrons are given in the form of the linear combination of plane waves and the orthogonality condition of these functions to the wave functions of lower states is replaced by the repulsive potential. The practical application of this very simple method is illustrated on the energy spectrum of silicon in the centre of the Brillouin zone. It is proved that the results are comparable with some other methods, e. g. the orthogonalized plane-wave method.

A study is made of the Shockley surface states in a linear chain of equal atoms, joined by alternately strong bonds. If the simple MO LCAO method is used, which considers the exchange integrals between nearest neighbours and next nearest neighbours, we get the surface states for a semi-infinite chain if the stronger bond is interrupted. The connection between Shockley and Tamm surface states is shown and the hypothesis is put forward that the condition for the existence of Shockley surface states has a generally simple physical interpretation, the validity of which is proved on the models of a semi-infinite crystal studied up to now.

A theory of the azimuthal bunching of electrons injected into the betatron is presented and compared with the experiments described in [1]. The bunching is treated as a small perturbation of the stationary beam.The stationary injected beam is replaced by the corresponding equilibrium beam of the same perveance so that the angular velocity spread of the injected electrons is proportional to the square root of the injection perveance.Self-consistent wave solutions for the perturbation of the stationary solution are then found. Equations giving the amplification of small density or energy disturbances along the beam are derived. These disturbances are assumed to be introduced by density or velocity modulation of the injected beam. The condition for the spontaneous occurrence of bunching is deduced by assuming that the disturbances do not vanish even when there is no modulation of the injected beam. The resulting expressions for the threshold perveance and the rise-time of the disturbance are in reasonably good agreement with the experiments. Such agreement may be considered as further verification of the statement made in [1] that the amplification of the disturbances is caused by the negative mass instability mechanism.

A potential havingn bound states is obtained for a Jost functionf(k), given as the ratio of two polynomials of the ordern in the impulsek, by solving the Gelfand-Levitan equation. The special case when the parameters have such values that no bound state need be considered, is studied separately. In the cases studied the linear integral Gelfand-Levitan equation is transformed ton linear inhomogeneous algebraic equations forn unknown quantities, by means of which one can determine the potential and the solution of the Schrödinger equation. Forn=1 the results agree with those previously known.

A method is described for measuring the relative quantum efficiency of the internal photo-electric effect in semi-conductors by simultaneously measuring the photo-magnetoelectric and photo-conductive effect. The results of measurements on indium antimonide are given. The quantum efficiency begins to increase if the energy of the photon exceeds 0·47 eVat room temperature. The quantum efficiency as a function of the energy of the photon is analysed on the basis of the conception of impact ionization and it is shown that a study of the structure of this curve can supply information on the, band structure of a semi-conductor in the region of high energies of electrons and holes.

A study is made of the influence of an alternating magnetic field of varying maximum amplitude on the remanent state, or rather, apparent remanent state of toroidal and open samples of metallic and non-metallic magnetically soft ferromagnetics. An interpretation of the corresponding dependences is given on the basis of Kondorski's conception of the composition of a polycrystalline jerromagnetic material.
