A new method of measuring the reflectivity factor
A new method is given of measuring reflectivity and compared with methods known up to now, which are characterized briefly. The applicability and suitability of the given method is shown on an example of measurement of the reflectivity of germanium in the ultra-violet and visible regions.

The interaction of dilute Hf in Nb with interstitially dissolved oxygen has been investigated via the --TDPAC-technique applied to the 482 keV state of181Ta. After melting the parent radioactivity181Hf with Nb the trapping of oxygen at the probe atoms leads to a quadrupole interaction frequency Q =268(1) MHz with an asymmetry parameter of =0.68(1). The temperature dependence of this frequency between 17 K and 293 K was found to be very weak whereas varies considerably. In a single crystal experiment the orientation of the three principal axes of the electric field gradient tensor leading to Q has been determined. TheV zz -axis points into a 110, theV yy -axis into a 100 and theV x -axis into a 110 direction. The results can be explained in the point charge model by assuming that one oxygen atom is trapped on the second nearest neighbour octahedral position next to the substitutional atom and the covalent bonds between the daughter Ta and the oxygen lead to a localization of charge near the probe atom.  相似文献

We study, via computer simulations, the fluctuations in the net electric charge in a two-dimensional, one component plasma (OCP) with uniform background charge density –e in a region inside a much larger overall neutral system. Setting e=1, this is the same as the fluctuations in N , the number of mobile particles of charge e. As expected, the distribution of N has, for large , a Gaussian form with a variance which grows only as ^||, where || is the length of the perimeter of . The properties of this system depend only on the coupling parameter =kT, which is the same as the reciprocal temperature in our units. Our simulations show that when the coupling parameter increases, ^() decreases to an asymptotic value ^()^(2)/2 which is equal (or very close) to that obtained for the corresponding variance of particles on a rigid triangular lattice. Thus, for large , the characteristic length L=2^/ associated with charge fluctuations behaves very differently from that of the Debye length, D1/ , which it approaches as 0. The pair correlation function of the OCP is also studied.  相似文献

We present a regular class of exact black hole solutions of the Einstein equations coupled with a nonlinear electrodynamics source. For weak fields the nonlinear electrodynamics becomes the Maxwell theory, and asymptotically the solutions behave as the Reissner–Nordström one. The class is endowed with four parameters, which can be thought of as the mass m, charge q, and a sort of dipole and quadrupole moments and , respectively. For 3, 4, and |q|2s c m the corresponding solutions are regular charged black holes. For = 3, they also satisfy the weak energy condition. For = = 0 we recover the Reissner–Nordström singular solution and for = 3, = 4 the family includes a previous regular black hole reported by the authors.  相似文献

It is shown for a one-dimensional approximation that, around a disturbance in the ion concentrationn +(x, t) in the axial direction of a cylindrical plasma, a corresponding electron distributionn (x, t) is established with such a large velocity that under the usual conditions of a discharge plasma this electron distribution follows the relatively slow changes in ion concentration practically without delay. Relation (24) then holds for the electron concentration, the parametersl 1,l D being given by Eqs. (15) and (16). As long as the disturbance of the ions isn +(x) 0, a space chargeq 0(n +-n) is produced and maintained in the plasma even if the disturbance of the equilibrium state of the plasma in the initial stage was electrically neutral (i.e.n +(x, t=0)==n (x,t=0)). The dimensions of these space charges can be many orders larger than the Debye characteristic lengthl D ; this is shown on an example of a spatially periodic curven +(x). The unique (quasi-stationary) expression of the electron concentrationn by means of the deflection of the ion concentrationn +(x, t) permits a considerable simplification of the solution of the problems connected with axially disturbing the homogeneous state of a plasma, sincen (x, t) can be eliminated from the equations of continuity of the plasma by substituting from (24), and the problem becomes that of determining the curve of the ion concentrationn + from the equations modified in this way.

A method is proposed that should facilitate the construction of theories of submicroscopic particles (denoted as theories of microchannels) in a way similar to the use of group-theoretical methods. The conceptual analysis (CA) method is based on the analysis of the basic concepts of a theory; it permits a determination of necessary conditions imposed on the mathematical apparatus (of the theory) which then appear as a mathematical representation of the structures obtained in a formal scheme of a theory. A pertinent conceptual analysis leads to a new definition (relativization) of the concept empirical implication. The approach may be characterized as realistic and operational. The application of the CA method is illustrated on the example of quantum theory. In Part I the algebraic structure of a partially ordered, up-ward directed, bounded set is deduced from the rudimentary concepts. In Parts II and III, we shall deduce the Hilbert-space structure (well established in quantum mechanics) from postulates on some essential idealizations accepted in the theory. Whereas Part II is concerned with the idealizations of existing quantum theories based on the Hilbert-space formalism, Part I may be considered as a general basis for a wider class of theories.Dedicated to Prof. G. In order to model any macroscopic system, it is necessary to aggregate both spatially and taxonomically. If average processes are assumed, then kinetic equations of population dynamics can be derived. Much effort has gone into showing the important effects introduced by non-average effects (fluctuations) in generating symmetry-breaking transitions and creating structure and form. However, the effects of microscopic diversity have been largely neglected. We show that evolution will select for populations which retain variability, even though this is, at any given time, loss-making, predicting that we shall not observe populations with optimal behavior, but populations which can learn. This lesser short-term efficiency may be why natural diversity is so great. Evolution is seen to be driven by the noise to which it leads.  相似文献

The basic equations of the dynamics of the continuous distribution of dislocations analogical to Maxwell equations are derived in a series of papers [I, II, III]. The analogy of the elastic and electromagnetic fields is analyzed. In part [III] some special problems are discussed, such as the density of the forces acting on the dislocations, the energy dissipation during the movement of dislocations, which is expressed by an equation analogical to Ohm's law. The equations derived in the previous parts in four-dimensional symbolics are considered in the three-dimensional differential and integral form. It is found that in special cases the relations become the known ones of elastodynamics, hydrodynamics and the static theory of the continuous distribution of dislocations. It is found that Kröner's method of integrating the equations of the dislocation field by means of so-called incompatibility tensors is analogical to the integration of the Maxwell equations by means of Hertz vectors. The analogy between the elastic dislocation field and the electromagnetic field is discussed in detail.

The paper deals with the theory of the new magnetomechanical phenomenon in an alternating field [6, 7]. The first part concerns the internal friction of longitudinal oscillations of a ferromagnetic material in the shape of a wire in a constant magnetic field. It is assumed that the medium in which the sample oscillates is conducting and has a certain permeability. Equations defining the magnetic field in the oscillating material are derived from the basic thermodynamic relations. The term describing the non-conservative force component in a complex formulation is used to determine the internal friction. A general relation between the internal friction and the magnetic field is derived, as well as other expressions, which are a simplification of it. The second part of the paper deals with internal friction in an alternating field. It is shown that the solution can be transformed to the sum of the internal frictions of the different harmonic oscillations, which are obtained as a partial solution of the problem on the assumption that the elastic oscillations in interaction with the field oscillations are separated into their harmonic components. The calculation then becomes that of the internal friction considered in the first part of the paper. In this case the internal friction significantly depends on the field amplitude. The functional dependence of the internal friction peak on the frequency of the mechanical oscillations is also calculated. The agreement of the theory with experiment is satisfactory.

A recent analysis by Richard Price of spherical collapse with small nonspherical perturbations is here generalized to the case of an electrically charged collapsing star (0¦Q¦-M). The perturbations are confined to a scalar field generated by a nonspherical distribution of scalar charge in the star. As in the electrically neutral case, the scalar perturbations are probably a prototype for all others — electromagnetic, gravitational, and higherspin. The collapse is shown to produce a Reissner-Nordström black hole, and the scalar-field perturbations are shown to radiate completely away; but they die out more slowly the larger is the star's electric charge. For charge ¦Q¦M, the -pole part of the perturbation at fixedr and late times is dominated by a tail that dies out ast –(2+ 2). But for ¦Q¦=M, the primary outgoing waves emitted from the star's surface are everywhere larger than the tail. At fixedr and late times they die as t–(+2). A model of the distribution of cations and valencies in non-stoichiometric magnesium manganese ferrites was proposed and its validity verified by measuring the saturation magnetic moments. The results of measuring the moment in stoichiometric ferrites to a certain extent confirms the correctness of the proposed model for this type of magnesium manganese ferrites, too. In a discussion of the distribution coefficient for manganese ions the close connection between this coefficient and the average valency of the manganese was pointed out. The question of the dependence of the distribution coefficient of magnesium ions on the composition is solved by introducing the maximum values of this coefficient and assuming that a simple proportionality holds for all compositions between the actual value of this coefficient and its maximum value.

The monopole question is treated anew in the light of a recent, strictly covariant,extended formulation of fermion quantum field theory naturally including alsoa pseudoscalar variety of conserved charges. The essential novelty lies in theresulting quantum property of anticommutivity between scalar and pseudoscalarcharge varieties, which should in particular apply to electric and magnetic charges.As an immediate outcome, there should no longer be any (Dirac-like) quantizationcondition relating these charges and binding the magnetic elementary charge tohave a very great strength. A generalized Lagrangian approach to the monopoleproblem is made truly viable, leading to two independent local gauge couplingswhich are separately generated by the electric and magnetic elementary chargesand are not allowed to interfere. This would prevent electric and magneticmonopoles from mutually interacting and would particularly account for theabsence of magnetic sources in ordinary electromagnetism. Within such aframework, an electric charge eigenstate with a nonzero eigenvalue is bound tohave a null magnetic charge expectation value, and the magnetic dipole momentof an electrically charged point fermion may actually be seen as resulting fromthe additional internal presence of a single magnetic charge subjected to a maximaluncertainty in sign. An easy estimate makes it allowable to assign to this chargea strength just equal to that of the partner electric charge. Such a conjecture leadsto a dual model of a charged point fermion where the electric and magneticroles can well be interchanged with no observable effects. In the associatedformalism, duality symmetry is already included without the need to appeal toany missing electromagnetic phenomenology to be discovered.  相似文献

Difficulties in the interpretation of high-energy nuclear interactions are discussed and explanations suggested on the basis of successive or composite nucleon-nucleus collisions, the first predominant below a few 10 11 eV,the second for higher energies. In the energy region up to about 10 11 eVsome discrepancies in the frequency of production of strange particles, the small interaction cross-section of iron etc. are explained, taking into account secondary intranuclear collisions. The tunnel model of Heitler and McCusker is replaced by assuming a cone-shaped interaction volume (funnel) even at the highest primary energies. A number of consequences concerning the energies of the primary particles, the multiplicity and asymmetry in the angular distribution of secondaries, coefficient of inelasticity etc. are discussed.

The magnetoresistance in zinc-manganese ferrites in the vicinity of the Curie point
The paper describes an exact method for measuring the adiabatic and isothermal magnetoresistant effects in ferrites. It gives the results of studying the temperature dependence of the magnetoresistant effect, which is negative near the Curie point in ferrites and the temperature dependence of which has a maximum of absolute values inT c . It is also shown that the pronounced maximum of the adiabatic magnetoresistant effect is to a certain extent caused by the magnetocaloric effect. When measuring the dependence of the magnetoresistant effect on the field strength for a temperature equal toT c , certain small deviations from the theoretically assumed dependence were found; the influence of different factors on these deviations is discussed and a proposal for their explanation is given in analogy to the results known for metals.
