The behaviour of an excimer-laser-pumped distributed feedback dye laser (ELP DFDL) using a mixture of saturable absorber and laser dye as an active medium was studied. In a DFDL self-Q-switching occurs because of the population inversion dependence of the feedback. If the DFDL contains absorber saturation of the absorption by the leading edge of the created laser pulse also causes Q-switching. As a result of this double self-Q-switching, mixing a saturable absorber into the laser dye, the laser pulses become shorter and more stable. This was demonstrated experimentally. Mixing Rhodamine B into the dye solution of a Coumarin 153 ELP DFDL, a six-fold reduction in the pulse duration and a more than two-fold reduction in the pulse energy instability were observed. The experimental results were in good qualitative agreement with the predictions of a simple rate equation model. 相似文献

We present experimental and modelling results of the first self-injected excimer laser. The intracavity losses of a XeCl oscillator are properly modulated by a Pockels cell allowing generation, amplification and extraction of short laser pulses with selectable duration in the range of 1–12 ns, tailored temporal profile and peak power increment up to a factor of three. Longer output laser pulses, up to 100 ns, can be obtained by slicing the intracavity laser radiation without peak power increment. Laser output peak powers in excess of 2 MW have been obtained, with remarkable reproducibility characteristics.ENEA fellow 相似文献

A new type of laser which generates pulses with amplification band-limited picosecond duration is presented. 15 ps, 0.9 GW, 3 pps, λ = 1.06 μm in a single pulse are obtained with good stability. Accurate timing of the pulses can be achieved and no external pulse selection is required. 相似文献

A 180-fs UV pulse has been generated based on a hybrid synchronously pumped mode-locked dye laser for a multiterawatt KrF laser system. The pulse width was measured by the single shot autocorrelation technique with the three-photon fluorescence of the XeF C-A transition. The pulse width broadening due to dispersive media was investigated. The results show that the observed pulse width broadening from 210 fs to 390 fs through the entire system is explained mostly by the linear dispersion of the optical elements for near-transform-limited input pulses. 相似文献

The N2-laser pumped distributed feedback dye laser is a new type of picosecond light source. A rate equation model describing the ultrashort pulse formation is presented. The temporal behavior of the distributed feedback dye laser predicted by the model has been compared with experimental results obtained with a streak camera system. The properties of distributed feedback dye lasers as novel sources for wavelength tunable ultrashort pulses in the visible and ultraviolet range are studied. Calculated and measured energy characteristics of the laser are in very good agreement. The shot-to-shot stability of the single ultrashort pulses has been measured to be ±7.1%. 相似文献

We report (theory, experimental check) an improved approach for generation of a tunable, subnanosecond pulse (0.1–0.4 ns),
based on a single pulsation (“spike”) separation from the transient oscillations in a dye laser with active mirror (AMIR).
A pumping by 20–50 ns pulses from Q-switched Nd:YAG laser is considered. The separation is in original, two-spectral selective
channels cavity, where the forced by AMIR quenched generation at one of the wavelength stops initially started spiking generation
at the other wavelength after the first spike development. The AMIR quickly starts the quenching generation at a precisely
controlled moment and with necessary intensity thus assuring the desired separation. An advantage is a high reproducibility
of the separation for high (~250%) pump power fluctuations combined with tuning in large range (~20 nm). To obtain such an
operation we form ~1 ns leading front pump pulse by electrooptical temporal cutting of the input pump pulse and use an optical
delay line. This increases also a few times the power in the separated spike (to be ~100 kW). Our approach widens the combinations
of lasers for effective applications of spike separation technique (dye lasers excited by Q-switched solid-state or Cu-vapor

A detailed experimental analysis of the amplitude noise in high-repetition-rate picosecond pulse trains generated by spectral
filtering of a frequency-modulated Er-Yb:glass laser is reported. Two distinct sources of noise are identified, and stabilization
techniques for noise suppression are proposed and experimentally demonstrated. Intensity noise suppression of ∼20 dB, corresponding
to less than 2% residual amplitude fluctuations of the pulse train, has been achieved at repetition rates of 2.5 GHz and 5 GHz
with pulse durations of ∼50 ps.

New results in the experimental study of the spectro-temporal selection (STS) method to produce picosecond dye laser pulses are presented. Adjustability of the picosecond pulse wavelength, possibility of extension of the STS method to different dyes and to UV pump wavelength, stability of the output pulse duration and intensity, and the concentration effect on pulse duration, are reported for the first time. From these results, production of high power picosecond (50–100 ps) dye laser pulses spectrally adjustable between 400 and 700 nm is obtained with a standard nanosecond pump laser, in a compact and simple device. 相似文献

Phase conjugated waves (PCW) were generated for the first time by degenerate four-wave mixing with subnanosecond laser pulses in potassium vapour near the D
1 transition at 7699 Å. The light source was a long cavity grazing incidence dye laser. The pulses had a duration of 700–800 ps and a linewidth of 0.2 Å. The experiments were performed in a temperature range of 400–550° C. A maximum reflectivity of 57% has been observed together with temporal pulse shortening. We built and characterized a high-energy, injection-seeded, single-longitudinal-mode pulsed titanium-doped-sapphire laser with tuneable wavelength in the near-infrared and variable pulse temporal duration in the nanosecond regime. We show experimentally how the pulse duration can be easily varied either by changing the cavity length or by changing the pump energy. We successfully interpreted these results on the basis of a theoretical model which treats the operation of this type of laser as a gain-switching technique. Also, as far as the stabilization of the laser cavity, compared to the traditional techniques we employed a novel simplified solution involving the use of an avalanche photodiode. 相似文献

A detailed analysis of a self-injected Nd: YAG laser with an unstable cavity is presented. With respect to the normal Q-switched laser-mode operation the pulse peak power is increased by a factor of eight with a pulse length of about 1 ns. Moreover single transverse mode operation is achieved, with divergence near the diffraction limit. A fast Blümlein circuit with a water strip line having an impedance of Z=0.078 is used to excite a TE high power nitrogen laser at =337 nm. A pseudospark switch works as a high power switch. The laser operates without any preionization and delivers an energy of 15 mJ per pulse (7.5 ns FWHM) at 10 kPa nitrogen pressure. The shot to shot reproducibility is better than 5%. 相似文献

A single picosecond ultraviolet pulse has been generated based on mode-locking of a dye laser pumped by a long pulse XeCl laser to serve as the input source for a high-power ps KrF laser system. A short-pulse uv dye laser (BBQ) pumped by an additional XeCl laser was used to selectively amplify a single pulse from a mode-locked pulse train with the pulse separation of 3.2 ns.
