Functions Operating on Positive Semidefinite Quaternionic Matrices

 We study functions on the quaternionic unit ball which operate on positive semidefinite matrices in the sense that is positive semidefinite whenever is a positive semidefinite square matrix with entries . (Received 21 September 2000; in revised form 8 March 2001)

所有ｎ阶具有半正定对称部分的方阵的集合记作ＰＳＤｎ．本文给出了ＰＳＤｎ中方阵在合同下的标准形以及ＰＳＤｎ中两个方阵合同的一个充要条件，并给出了ＰＳＤｎ中一个方阵及其对称部分与斜对称部分的主子式间的一个不等式．

本文应用半正定（未必是Ｈｅｒｍｉｔｅ）复方阵在合同下的标准形给出两个半正定（未必是Ｈｅｒｍｉｔｅ）复方阵的Ｋｒｏｎｅｃｋｅｒ乘积为半正定的充要条件     

A Measure Of Asymmetry For Positive Semidefinite Matrices

It is known that a continuous map is the gradient of a convex function if and only if it is cyclically monotone. Also, a differentiable map F is the gradient of a function if and only if the matrices F ′(x) are symmetric for all x in the domain. Based on this connection between symmetry and monotonicity, we define a measure of asymmetry for positive semidefinite matrices.

Generalized Schur complements involving the Kronecker products of positive semidefinite matrices are studied in this paper. Some equalities and inequalities for generalized Schur complements involving Kronecker products are obtained by considering properties of permutations. Moreover, some inequalities for eigenvalues involving generalized Schur complements and Kronecker products are derived.

A Remark on the Rank of Positive Semidefinite Matrices Subject to Affine Constraints

Let K _n be the cone of positive semidefinite n X n matrices and let ? be an affine subspace of the space of symmetric matrices such that the intersection K _n ∩? is nonempty and bounded. Suppose that n ≥ 3 and that \codim ? = r+2 \choose 2 for some 1 ≤ r ≤ n-2 . Then there is a matrix X ∈ K _n ∩? such that rank X ≤ r . We give a short geometric proof of this result, use it to improve a bound on realizability of weighted graphs as graphs of distances between points in Euclidean space, and describe its relation to theorems of Bohnenblust, Friedland and Loewy, and Au-Yeung and Poon. 复亚半正定矩阵是 Hermite正定阵的推广 ,研究了它的 Kronecker积、Hadamard积和行列式理论 ,将实对称阵的 Schur定理、华罗庚定理、Minkowski不等式、Ky-Fan不等式、Ostrowski-Taussky不等式推广到了一类非 Hermite复矩阵上 ,扩大了 Minkowski不等式的指数范围 ,削弱了华罗庚不等式的条件 .     

Polytopes of Minimum Positive Semidefinite Rank

The positive semidefinite (psd) rank of a polytope is the smallest $k$ k for which the cone of $k \times k$ k × k real symmetric psd matrices admits an affine slice that projects onto the polytope. In this paper we show that the psd rank of a polytope is at least the dimension of the polytope plus one, and we characterize those polytopes whose psd rank equals this lower bound. We give several classes of polytopes that achieve the minimum possible psd rank including a complete characterization in dimensions two and three.

Relative Difference Sets and Hadamard Matrices from Perfect Quaternionic Arrays

Let \(G=\mathbf{C}_{n_1}\times \cdots \times \mathbf{C}_{n_m}\) be an abelian group of order \(n=n_1\dots n_m\), where each \(\mathbf{C}_{n_t}\) is cyclic of order \(n_t\). We present a correspondence between the (4n, 2, 4n, 2n)-relative difference sets in \(G\times Q_8\) relative to the centre \(Z(Q_8)\) and the perfect arrays of size \(n_1\times \dots \times n_m\) over the quaternionic alphabet \(Q_8\cup qQ_8\), where \(q=(1+i+j+k)/2\). In view of this connection, for \(m=2\) we introduce new families of relative difference sets in \(G\times Q_8\), as well as new families of Williamson and Ito Hadamard matrices with G-invariant components.
