Summary We consider the stationary Navier-Stokes equations, written in terms of the primitive variables, in the case where both the partial differential equations and boundary conditions are inhomogeneous. Under certain conditions on the data, the existence and uniqueness of the solution of a weak formulation of the equations can be guaranteed. A conforming finite element method is presented and optimal estimates for the error of the approximate solution are proved. In addition, the convergence properties of iterative methods for the solution of the discrete nonlinear algebraic systems resulting from the finite element algorithm are given. Numerical examples, using an efficient choice of finite element spaces, are also provided.Supported, in part, by the U.S. Air Force Office of Scientific Research under Grant No. AF-AFOSR-80-0083Supported, in part, by the same agency under Grant No. AF-AFOSR-80-0176-A. In this study, a time semi-discrete Crank-Nicolson (CN) formulation with second-order time accuracy for the non-stationary parabolized Navier-Stokes equations is firstly established. And then, a fully discrete stabilized CN mixed finite element (SCNMFE) formulation based on two local Gauss integrals and parameterfree with the second-order time accuracy is established directly from the time semi-discrete CN formulation. Thus, it could avoid the discussion for semi-discrete SCNMFE formulation with respect to spatial variables and its theoretical analysis becomes very simple. Finaly, the error estimates of SCNMFE solutions are provided.

In this article, we consider a fully discrete stabilized finite element method based on two local Gauss integrations for the two-dimensional time-dependent Navier-Stokes equations. It focuses on the lowest equal-order velocity-pressure pairs. Unlike the other stabilized method, the present approach does not require specification of a stabilization parameter or calculation of higher-order derivatives, and always leads to a symmetric linear system. The Euler semi-implicit scheme is used for the time discretization. It is shown that the proposed fully discrete stabilized finite element method results in the optimal order bounds for the velocity and pressure.

In the paper, a stabilized multiscale finite element method for the stationary incompressible Navier-Stokes equations is considered. The method is a Petrov-Galerkin approach based on the multiscale enrichment of the standard polynomial space enriched with the unusual bubble functions which no longer vanish on every element boundary for the velocity space. The stability of the P1-P0 triangular element (or the Q1-P0 quadrilateral element) is established. And the optimal error estimates of the stabilized multiscale finite element method for the stationary Navier-Stokes equations are obtained.

In this paper, a new stabilized finite volume method is studied and developed for the stationary Navier-Stokes equations. This method is based on a local Gauss integration technique and uses the lowest equal order finite element pair P 1P 1 (linear functions). Stability and convergence of the optimal order in the H 1-norm for velocity and the L 2-norm for pressure are obtained. A new duality for the Navier-Stokes equations is introduced to establish the convergence of the optimal order in the L 2-norm for velocity. Moreover, superconvergence between the conforming mixed finite element solution and the finite volume solution using the same finite element pair is derived. Numerical results are shown to support the developed convergence theory.

A stabilized Oseen iterative finite element method for the stationary conduction–convection equations is investigated in this paper. The stability and iterative error estimates are analyzed, which show that the presented method is stable and has good precision. Numerical results are shown to support the developed theory analysis and demonstrate the efficiency of the given method. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Summary. The purpose of this paper is to analyze a finite element approximation of the stationary Navier-Stokes equations that allows the use of equal velocity-pressure interpolation. The idea is to introduce as unknown of the discrete problem the projection of the pressure gradient (multiplied by suitable algorithmic parameters) onto the space of continuous vector fields. The difference between these two vectors (pressure gradient and projection) is introduced in the continuity equation. The resulting formulation is shown to be stable and optimally convergent, both in a norm associated to the problem and in the norm for both velocities and pressure. This is proved first for the Stokes problem, and then it is extended to the nonlinear case. All the analysis relies on an inf-sup condition that is much weaker than for the standard Galerkin approximation, in spite of the fact that the present method is only a minor modification of this.
