An improved hybrid method for computing unsteady compressible viscous flows is presented. This method divides the computational domain into two zones. In the inner zone, the Navier–Stokes equations are solved using a diagonal form of an alternating‐direction implicit (ADI) approximate factorisation procedure. In the outer zone, the unsteady full‐potential equation (FPE) is solved. The two zones are tightly coupled so that steady and unsteady flows may be efficiently solved. Characteristic‐based viscous/inviscid interface boundary conditions are employed to avoid spurious reflections at that interface. The resulting CPU times are about 60% of the full Navier–Stokes CPU times for unsteady flows in non‐vector processing machines. Applications of the method are presented for a F‐5 wing in steady and unsteady transonic flows. Steady surface pressures are in very good agreement with experimental data and are essentially identical to the full Navier–Stokes predictions. Density contours show that shocks cross the viscous/inviscid interface smoothly, so that the accuracy of full Navier–Stokes equations can be retained with significant savings in computational time. A coupling method for numerical calculations of steady free‐surface flows around a body is presented. The fluid domain in the neighbourhood of the hull is divided into two overlapping zones. Viscous effects are taken in account near the hull using Reynolds‐averaged Navier–Stokes equations (RANSE), whereas potential flow provides the flow away from the hull. In the internal domain, RANSE are solved by a fully coupled velocity, pressure and free‐surface elevation method. In the external domain, potential‐flow theory with linearized free‐surface condition is used to provide boundary conditions to the RANSE solver. The Fourier–Kochin method based on the Fourier–Kochin formulation, which defines the velocity field in a potential‐flow region in terms of the velocity distribution at a boundary surface, is used for that purpose. Moreover, the free‐surface Green function satisfying this linearized free‐surface condition is used. Calculations have been successfully performed for steady ship‐waves past a serie 60 and then have demonstrated abilities of the present coupling algorithm. Viscous fluid flow induced by rotational-oscillatorymotion of a porous sphere submerged in the fluid is determined. The Darcy formula for the viscous medium drag is supplementedwith a term that allows for the medium motion. The medium motion is also included in the boundary conditions. Exact analytical solutions are obtained for the time-dependent Brinkman equation in the region inside the sphere and for the Navier–Stokes equations outside the body. The existence of internal transverse waves in the fluid is shown; in these waves the velocity is perpendicular to the wave propagation direction. The waves are standing inside the sphere and traveling outside of it. The particular cases of low and high oscillation frequencies are considered.  相似文献

The purpose of this study is to perform a numerical application of the shape optimization formulation of a body located in an incompressible viscous flow field. The formulation is based on an optimal control theory in which a performance function of the fluid force is introduced. The performance function should be minimized satisfying the state equation. This problem can be transformed into the minimization problem without constraint condition by the Lagrange multiplier method and the adjoint equations using adjoint variables corresponding to the state equations. As a numerical study, the drag force minimization problem in the steady Stokes flow, which means approximated equation of the low Reynolds number Navier–Stokes equation is carried out. After that, the unsteady Navier–Stokes flow is analysed. As the minimization algorithm, the steepest descent method is successfully applied. Copyright © 2005 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Here we make use of the vocable ‘slices or layer-type’ (for lack of better appellation) whenever a pencil of plane parallel fluid sections is so conveyed by the flow that plane remain the sections. Pseudo stream functions and general equations governing the flow are proposed so as to enlarge the theory of plane and pseudo-plane flows. By taking the aspects of solid boundaries into account, we show that the layer-type flows can be sharply divided into three categories. Then by seeking polynomial solutions of the equations, we reveal two families of exact solutions of Navier–Stokes equations.  相似文献

A two‐dimensional multi‐phase model for immiscible binary fluid flow including moving immersed objects is presented. The fluid motion is described by the incompressible Navier–Stokes equation coupled with a phase‐field model based on van der Waals' free energy density and the Cahn–Hilliard equation. A new phase‐field boundary condition was implemented with minimization of the free energy in a direct way, to specifically improve the physical behavior of the contact line dynamics for moving immersed objects. Numerical stability and execution time were significantly improved by the use of the new boundary condition. Convergence toward the analytical solution was demonstrated for equilibrium contact angle, the Lucas–Washburn theory and Stefan's problem. The proposed model may be used for multi‐phase flow problems with moving boundaries of complex geometry, such as the penetration of fluid into a deformable, porous medium. A nested non-linear multigrid algorithm is developed to solve the Navier–Stokes equations which describe the steady incompressible flow past a sphere. The vorticity–streamfunction formulation of the Navier–Stokes equations is chosen. The continuous operators are discretized by an upwind finite difference scheme. Several algorithms are tested as smoothing steps. The multigrid method itself provides only a first-order-accurate solution. To obtain at least second-order accuracy, a defect correction iteration is used as outer iteration. Results are reported for Re = 50, 100, 400 and 1000.  相似文献

We study the Navier–Stokes equations for incompressible fluids in a three-dimensional thin two-layer domain whose top, bottom and interface boundaries are not flat. In addition to the Navier friction boundary conditions on the top and bottom boundaries of the domain, and the periodicity condition on the sides, the fluid velocities are subject to an interface boundary condition which relates the normal stress of each fluid to the relative velocity between them on the common boundary. We prove that the strong solutions exist for all time if the initial data and body force, measured in relevant norms, are appropriately large as the domain becomes very thin. In our analysis, the interface boundary condition is interpreted as a variation of the Navier boundary conditions containing an interaction part. The effect of that interaction on the Stokes operator and the nonlinear term of the Navier–Stokes equations is expressed and carefully estimated in different ways in order to obtain suitable inequalities.  相似文献

A numerical simulation is performed to investigate the flow induced by a sphere moving along the axis of a rotating cylindrical container filled with the viscous fluid. Three‐dimensional incompressible Navier–Stokes equations are solved using a finite element method. The objective of this study is to examine the feature of waves generated by the Coriolis force at moderate Rossby numbers and that to what extent the Taylor–Proudman theorem is valid for the viscous rotating flow at small Rossby number and large Reynolds number. Calculations have been undertaken at the Rossby numbers (Ro) of 1 and 0.02 and the Reynolds numbers (Re) of 200 and 500. When Ro=O(1), inertia waves are exhibited in the rotating flow past a sphere. The effects of the Reynolds number and the ratio of the radius of the sphere and that of the rotating cylinder on the flow structure are examined. When Ro ? 1, as predicted by the Taylor–Proudman theorem for inviscid flow, the so‐called ‘Taylor column’ is also generated in the viscous fluid flow after an evolutionary course of vortical flow structures. The initial evolution and final formation of the ‘Taylor column’ are exhibited. According to the present calculation, it has been verified that major theoretical statement about the rotating flow of the inviscid fluid may still approximately predict the rotating flow structure of the viscous fluid in a certain regime of the Reynolds number. Numerical investigation of a perturbed swirling annular two-phase jet   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A swirling annular gas–liquid two-phase jet flow system has been investigated by solving the compressible, time-dependent, non-dimensional Navier–Stokes equations using highly accurate numerical methods. The mathematical formulation for the flow system is based on an Eulerian approach with mixed-fluid treatment while an adjusted volume of fluid method is utilised to account for the gas compressibility. Surface tension effects are captured by a continuum surface force model. Swirling motion is applied at the inlet while a small helical perturbation is also applied to initiate the instability. Three-dimensional spatial direct numerical simulation has been performed with parallelisation of the code based on domain decomposition. The results show that the flow is characterised by a geometrical recirculation zone adjacent to the nozzle exit and by a central recirculation zone further downstream. Swirl enhances the flow instability and vorticity and promotes liquid dispersion in the cross-streamwise directions. A dynamic precessing vortex core is developed demonstrating that the growth of such a vortex in annular configurations can be initiated even at low swirl numbers, in agreement with experimental findings. Analysis of the averaged results revealed the existence of a geometrical recirculation zone and a swirl induced central recirculation zone in the flow field.  相似文献

We present a low-dimensional Galerkin model with state-dependent modes capturing linear and nonlinear dynamics. Departure point is a direct numerical simulation of the three-dimensional incompressible flow around a sphere at Reynolds numbers 400. This solution starts near the unstable steady Navier–Stokes solution and converges to a periodic limit cycle. The investigated Galerkin models are based on the dynamic mode decomposition (DMD) and derive the dynamical system from first principles, the Navier–Stokes equations. A DMD model with training data from the initial linear transient fails to predict the limit cycle. Conversely, a model from limit-cycle data underpredicts the initial growth rate roughly by a factor 5. Key enablers for uniform accuracy throughout the transient are a continuous mode interpolation between both oscillatory fluctuations and the addition of a shift mode. This interpolated model is shown to capture both the transient growth of the oscillation and the limit cycle.  相似文献

This article develops a general approach to time periodic incompressible fluid flow problems and semilinear evolution equations. It yields, on the one hand, a unified approach to various classical problems in incompressible fluid flow and, on the other hand, gives new results for periodic solutions to the Navier–Stokes–Oseen flow, the Navier–Stokes flow past rotating obstacles, and, in the geophysical setting, for Ornstein–Uhlenbeck and various diffusion equations with rough coefficients. The method is based on a combination of interpolation and topological arguments, as well as on the smoothing properties of the linearized equation.  相似文献

A method is developed for performing a local reduction of the governing physics for fluid problems with domains that contain a combination of narrow and non‐narrow regions, and the computational accuracy and performance of the method are measured. In the narrow regions of the domain, where the fluid is assumed to have no inertia and the domain height and curvature are assumed small, lubrication, or Reynolds, theory is used locally to reduce the two‐dimensional Navier–Stokes equations to the one‐dimensional Reynolds equation while retaining a high degree of accuracy in the overall solution. The Reynolds equation is coupled to the governing momentum and mass equations of the non‐narrow region with boundary conditions on the mass and momentum flux. The localized reduction technique, termed ‘stitching,’ is demonstrated on Stokes flow for various geometries of the hydrodynamic journal bearing—a non‐trivial test problem for which a known analytical solution is available. The computational advantage of the coupled Stokes–Reynolds method is illustrated on an industrially applicable fully‐flooded deformable‐roll coating example. The examples in this paper are limited to two‐dimensional Stokes flow, but extension to three‐dimensional and Navier–Stokes flow is possible. Copyright © 2003 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper we investigate the issue of the inviscid limit for the compressible Navier–Stokes system in an impermeable fixed bounded domain. We consider two kinds of boundary conditions. The first one is the no-slip condition. In this case we extend the famous conditional result (Kato, T.: Remarks on zero viscosity limit for nonstationary Navier–Stokes flows with boundary. In: Seminar on nonlinear partial differential equations, vol. 2, pp. 85–98. Math. Sci. Res. Inst. Publ., Berkeley 1984) obtained by Kato in the homogeneous incompressible case. Kato proved that if the energy dissipation rate of the viscous flow in a boundary layer of width proportional to the viscosity vanishes then the solutions of the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations converge to some solutions of the incompressible Euler equations in the energy space. We provide here a natural extension of this result to the compressible case. The other case is the Navier condition which encodes that the fluid slips with some friction on the boundary. In this case we show that the convergence to the Euler equations holds true in the energy space, as least when the friction is not too large. In both cases we use in a crucial way some relative energy estimates proved recently by Feireisl et al. in J. Math. Fluid Mech. 14:717–730 (2012).  相似文献

We prove convergence of the finite element method for the Navier–Stokes equations in which the no‐slip condition and no‐penetration condition on the flow boundary are imposed via a penalty method. This approach has been previously studied for the Stokes problem by Liakos (Weak imposition of boundary conditions in the Stokes problem. Ph.D. Thesis, University of Pittsburgh, 1999). Since, in most realistic applications, inertial effects dominate, it is crucial to extend the validity of the method to the nonlinear Navier–Stokes case. This report includes the analysis of this extension, as well as numerical results validating their analytical counterparts. Specifically, we show that optimal order of convergence can be achieved if the computational boundary follows the real flow boundary exactly. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Based on a new global variational formulation, a spectral element approximation of the incompressible Navier–Stokes/Euler coupled problem gives rise to a global discrete saddle problem. The classical Uzawa algorithm decouples the original saddle problem into two positive definite symmetric systems. Iterative solutions of such systems are feasible and attractive for large problems. It is shown that, provided an appropriate pre‐conditioner is chosen for the pressure system, the nested conjugate gradient methods can be applied to obtain rapid convergence rates. Detailed numerical examples are given to prove the quality of the pre‐conditioner. Thanks to the rapid iterative convergence, the global Uzawa algorithm takes advantage of this as compared with the classical iteration by sub‐domain procedures. Furthermore, a generalization of the pre‐conditioned iterative algorithm to flow simulation is carried out. Comparisons of computational complexity between the Navier–Stokes/Euler coupled solution and the full Navier–Stokes solution are made. It is shown that the gain obtained by using the Navier–Stokes/Euler coupled solution is generally considerable. Copyright © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this article, a reduced‐order modeling approach, suitable for active control of fluid dynamical systems, based on proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) is presented. The rationale behind the reduced‐order modeling is that numerical simulation of Navier–Stokes equations is still too costly for the purpose of optimization and control of unsteady flows. The possibility of obtaining reduced‐order models that reduce the computational complexity associated with the Navier–Stokes equations is examined while capturing the essential dynamics by using the POD. The POD allows the extraction of a reduced set of basis functions, perhaps just a few, from a computational or experimental database through an eigenvalue analysis. The solution is then obtained as a linear combination of this reduced set of basis functions by means of Galerkin projection. This makes it attractive for optimal control and estimation of systems governed by partial differential equations (PDEs). It is used here in active control of fluid flows governed by the Navier–Stokes equations. In particular, flow over a backward‐facing step is considered. Reduced‐order models/low‐dimensional dynamical models for this system are obtained using POD basis functions (global) from the finite element discretizations of the Navier–Stokes equations. Their effectiveness in flow control applications is shown on a recirculation control problem using blowing on the channel boundary. Implementational issues are discussed and numerical experiments are presented. Copyright © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper, a raft-typed wave energy dissipator is proposed, and a mathematical model for the hydrodynamics of such a dissipator is presented, based on Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes equations. The model is validated by a comparison of the numerical results with the results of other investigators. The validated model is then utilized to examine the effect of wave height, wave frequency, damping coefficient, flow velocity on wave energy dissipation ratio and wave transmission coefficient for a hinged twin-raft wave energy dissipator. Our results reveal that the differences in behaviour exhibited by an inviscid fluid and a viscous fluid can be large and vary considerably, depending on the flow velocity.  相似文献

The problem of stability of two-layer (fluid-gas) flows with account of evaporation at the thermocapillary interface is studied under the condition of a fixed gas flow rate. In the upper gas-vapor layer, the Dufour effect is taken into account. A novel exact solution of the Navier–Stokes equations in the Boussinesq approximation is constructed. The effects of longitudinal temperature gradients, gravity, thicknesses of the gas and fluid layers, and the gas flow rate on the flow structure, the onset of recirculated flows near the interface, the evaporation rate, and the properties of characteristic disturbances are investigated.  相似文献

Stabilised mixed velocity–pressure formulations are one of the widely-used finite element schemes for computing the numerical solutions of laminar incompressible Navier–Stokes. In these formulations, the Newton–Raphson scheme is employed to solve the nonlinearity in the convection term. One fundamental issue with this approach is the computational cost incurred in the Newton–Raphson iterations at every load/time step. In this paper, we present an iteration-free mixed finite element formulation for incompressible Navier–Stokes that preserves second-order temporal accuracy of the generalised-alpha and related schemes for both velocity and pressure fields. First, we demonstrate the second-order temporal accuracy using numerical convergence studies for an example with a manufactured solution. Later, we assess the accuracy and the computational benefits of the proposed scheme by studying the benchmark example of flow past a fixed circular cylinder. Towards showcasing the applicability of the proposed technique in a wider context, the inf–sup stable P2–P1 pair for the formulation without stabilisation is also considered. Finally, the resulting benefits of using the proposed scheme for fluid–structure interaction problems are illustrated using two benchmark examples in fluid-flexible structure interaction.  相似文献
