Waves on the surface of a thin film of a viscous dielectric fluid flowing down the inner surface of one plate of a plane capacitor with alternating voltage applied is considered. It is shown that the volume forces acting from the inhomogeneous electric field are negligibly small in the case of long waves, and the influence of the electric field reduces to the influence of additional pressure onto the film surface. A model equation for determining the deviation of the film thickness from the undisturbed value is derived in the long-wave approximation. Some numerical solutions of this equation are given.  相似文献

A theoretical investigation of the effects of a transverse magnetic field on the combined problem of viscous lifting and drainage of a conducting fluid on a plate is presented. The effects of inertia and transverse magnetic field on the liquid film thickness is studied for two cases namely a plate withdrawn with a constant velocity and one withdrawn with a constant acceleration. The expressions for the flow rate and the free surface profiles are obtained for the above two cases. It is found that the free surface profiles are convex in nature as in the non-magnetic case thus showing that the inertia does not effect the general pattern of flow, and the effect of the magnetic field is to retard both the lifting and drainage of the fluid.  相似文献

In this article we formulate and solve the problem of the influence of radiation forces (forces created by the radiation pressure) on two spheres in a viscous fluid during the transmission of an acoustic wave. On the basis of these forces we investigate the nature of the interaction between the spheres as determined by the mutual disturbance of the flow fields around them as a result of interference between the primary and secondary waves reflected from the spheres. A previously proposed [2] approach is used in the investigations. The radiation force acting on one of the spheres is filtered by averaging the convolution of the stress tensor in the fluid with the unit normal to the surface of the sphere over a time interval and over the surface of the sphere. The stresses in the fluid are represented, to within second-order quantities in the parameters of the wave field, in terms of the velocity potentials obtained from the solution of the linear problem of the diffraction of the primary wave by the free spheres. The diffraction problem is formulated and solved within the framework of the theory of linear viscoelastic solids [6]. The case of an ideal fluid has been studied previously [3–5, 7]. Radiation forces are one of the causes of the relative drift of solid particles situated in a fluid in an acoustic field.S. P. Timoshenko Institute of Mechanics, Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Kiev. Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow of a viscous electrically conducting incompressible fluid between two stationary impermeable disks is considered. A homogeneous electric current density vector normal to the surface is specified on the upper disk, and the lower disk is nonconducting. The exact von Karman solution of the complete system of MHD equations is studied in which the axial velocity and the magnetic field depend only on the axial coordinate. The problem contains two dimensionless parameters: the electric current density on the upper plate Y and the Batchelor number (magnetic Prandtl number). It is assumed that there is no external source that produces an axial magnetic field. The problem is solved for a Batchelor number of 0–2. Fluid flow is caused by the electric current. It is shown that for small values of Y, the fluid velocity vector has only axial and radial components. The velocity of motion increases with increasing Y, and at a critical value of Y, there is a bifurcation of the new steady flow regime with fluid rotation, while the flow without rotation becomes unstable. A feature of the obtained new exact solution is the absence of an axial magnetic field necessary for the occurrence of an azimuthal component of the ponderomotive force, as is the case in the MHD dynamo. A new mechanism for the bifurcation of rotation in MHD flow is found.

Summary This paper describes the effect of a magnetic field upon the viscous lifting of a conducting fluid for two types of lifting surfaces; conducting and non-conducting. It is shown that the magnetic field produces very small effects on the film thickness and mass flow rate for the case of the dielectric plate. For the conducting plate, the effects are more pronounced and increase with larger values of the ratio of plate conductivity to fluid conductivity. The analysis employed here is simplified to the extent that the effects of surface tension are not included.  相似文献

The laminar flow of a thin layer of heavy viscous magnetic liquid down an inclined wall is examined. The stability and control of the flow of an ordinary liquid are affected only by alteration of the angle of inclination of the solid wall and the velocity of the adjacent gas flow. When magnetic liquids are used [1, 2], an effective method of flow control may be control of the magnetic field. By using magnetic fields of various configurations it is possible to control the flow of a thin film of viscous liquid, modify the stability of laminar film flow, and change the shape of the free surface of the laminarly flowing thin film, a factor which plays a role in mass transfer, whose rate depends on the phase contact surface area. The magnetic field significantly affects the shape of the free surface of a magnetic liquid [3, 4]. In this paper the velocity profile of a layer of viscous magnetic liquid adjoining a gas flow and flowing down an inclined solid wall in a uniform magnetic field is found. It is shown that the flow can be controlled by the magnetic field. The problem of stability of the flow is solved in a linear formulation in which perturbations of the magnetic field are taken into account. The stability condition is found. The flow stability is affected by the nonuniform nature of the field and also by its direction.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 5, pp. 59–65, September–October, 1977.  相似文献

The problem of the wave motion of a liquid layer was first investigated by Kapitsa [1, 2], who gave an approximate analysis of the free flow and flow in contact with gas stream, and evaluated the influence of the heat transfer processes on the flow. The problem of the stability of such a flow was studied in detail by Benjamin [3] and Yih [4, 5], These authors proposed seeking the solution of the resulting Orr-Sommerfeld equation in the form of a series in a small parameter and developed a corresponding method of successive approximations. As the small parameter [3–5], they made use of the product of the disturbance wave number and the Reynolds number. In these studies, the tangential stress on the free surface was taken equal to zero, and the fluid film was always considered essentially plane. At the same time, there are certain types of problems of considerable interest in which neither of these assumptions is satisfied. A good example might be the problem on the stability of the annular regime of two-phase flow in pipes and capillaries, when the basic stream of one fluid is separated from the pipe walls by an annular layer of another fluid. In this case, the interface has a finite radius of curvature and the tangential stress on the interface may be significantly different from zero.In the present paper, the problem of the flow stability of a fluid layer with respect to small disturbances of the boundary surface is considered with account for both the finite radius of curvature of the boundary surface and the nonzero hydrodynamic friction at the boundary. The film is assumed to be quite thin. This enables us, firstly, to consider the Reynolds number small, to use the general method of [5], and, second ly, to consider the film thickness sufficiently small in comparison with the radius of curvature of the substrate on which the film lies. Furthermore, for evaluating the stability of the laminar flow of the curved film we can use the results obtained for a plane film with account for the terms which depend on the curvature of the substrate. As a rule, previous studies have considered only one-dimensional disturbances of the boundary surface. In the present paper, in the first approximation, the stability is examined in relation to two-dimensional disturbances of this surface, corresponding to three-dimensional flow disturbances. As an example, the results obtained are applied to the investigation of the stability of the free flow of a layer of fluid over an inclined plane under the sole influence of gravity.  相似文献

The problem of the squeeze film flow of a viscoelastic fluid between parallel, circular disks is analyzed. The upper disk is subject to small, axial oscillations. Lodge's “rubber-like liquid” is used as the viscoelastic fluid model, and fluid inertia forces are included. An exact solution to the equations of motion is obtained involving in-phase and out-of-phase components of velocity field and load, with respect to the plate velocity. Peculiar resonance phenomena in the load amplitude are exhibited at high Deborah number. At certain combinations of Reynolds number and Deborah number, the in-phase and/or out-of-phase velocity field components may attain an unusual circulating type of motion in which the flow reverses direction across the film. In the low Deborah number limit, and in the low Reynolds number limit, the results of this study reduce to those obtained by other workers.  相似文献

In Shail & Gooden (1982) the problem of a solid particle translating in a semi-infinite fluid, whose surface is contaminated with a surfactant film, was examined in the quasi-steady Stokes flow régime. Various linearised models governing the variation of film concentration were considered, but the analysis was approximate in that the fluid motion generated was represented by that due to a Stokeslet situated at the centre of the particle. In this paper we remove the latter restriction and treat two specific solids, namely a rigid flat circular disk and a sphere, which move axisymmetrically perpendicular to the fluid surface. This surface is assumed to remain plane throughout the motion. The velocity field in the translating-disk problem is represented in terms of harmonic functions, and the resulting mixed boundary-value problems are reduced, for each of the film behaviours examined, to the solution of sets of simultaneous Fredholm integral equations of the second kind. These equations are solved both iteratively and numerically, and the drag on the disk is computed. For the sphere a stream-function formulation in bispherical coordinates is used. Application of the boundary conditions at the sphere and film results in infinite sets of simultaneous linear equations for the coefficients in the eigenfunction expansion of the stream function. These equations are solved by the method of truncation, and the drag on the sphere is determined.  相似文献

The ferrohydrodynamic problem, with a disconnected free surface, of the stability of an annular magneto-fluid seal under the action of centrifugal forces and a pressure drop is solved numerically. The effect of the shaft speed on the critical pressure drop is investigated in relation to the volume of the magneto-fluid plug, the magnetic field strength, the magnetic properties of the fluid, the gap width, and the shaft radius. The flow pattern and the thermal power released in the sealing layer are studied.  相似文献

A consistent asymptotic theory of wall flow with film formation is constructed with reference to subsonic two-phase flow over a blunt body. The external flow problem and the film equations are solved simultaneously. This formulation of the problem supplements the investigation carried out in [4] in which particles deposited on the surface were assumed to disappear from the flow. It is shown that depending on the values of the governing parameters the flow in the film should be described either by the boundary layer equations or by the equations of creeping flow in a layer of unknown thickness. At the outer edge of the film the mass, momentum and energy fluxes found from the numerical solution of the flow problem are given. The case of isothermal film flow on the front of a sphere is investigated. The thickness of the film and the friction and heat transfer coefficients near the axis of symmetry are found for nonisothermal flows. The conditions under which the presence of a film significantly reduces the heat flow to the wall are determined. A similar formulation of the problem (but with another type of mass, momentum and energy sources at the outer edge) is encountered in problems of film condensation on a cold surface [5, 6].Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 4, pp. 85–92, July–August, 1989.  相似文献

The temperature pulsations and wave characteristics in water film flow along a vertical plate with a heater are investigated. Using an infrared scanner, the temperature field on the film surface is measured for various heat flux densities on the heater. Experimental data on the variation of the temperature with time on a local segment of the liquid film surface during wave transmission are obtained. In the absence of a heat flux the data obtained are in good agreement with the results of other researchers for an isothermal liquid film. When the down-flowing liquid is heated, the thermocapillary forces lead to the formation of rivulets and a thin film between them. It is shown that in the inter-rivulet zone the relative wave amplitude increases due to the action of the thermocapillary forces.  相似文献

The explicit solution is constructed for a static thermoelastic problem for an infinite transversally isotropic piezoceramic body containing a heat-insulated parabolic crack in the isotropy plane. The crack surface is assumed free of forces. The body is under a uniform heat flow, which is perpendicular to the crack surface and is far from the crack itself. The problem is solved for two cases of electric conditions on the crack surface. In the first case, an electric potential is absent on the crack surface and, in the second case, the normal component of the electric-displacement vector is equal to zero. The intensity factors, which depend on the heat flow, crack geometry, and the thermoelectroelastic properties of the piezoceramic body, are determined for the force field and electric displacement near the crack tip  相似文献

We consider slow steady flows of a conducting fluid at large values of the Hartmann number and small values of the magnetic Reynolds number in an inhomogeneous magnetic field. The general solution is obtained in explicit form for the basic portion (core) of the flow, where the inertia and viscous forces may be neglected. The boundary conditions which this solution must satisfy at the outer edges of the boundary layers which develop at the walls are considered. Possible types of discontinuity surfaces and other singularities in the flow core are examined. An exact solution is obtained for the problem of conducting fluid flow in a tube of arbitrary section in an inhomogeneous magnetic field. The content of this paper is a generalization of some results on flows in a homogeneous magnetic field, obtained in [1–8], to the case of arbitrary flows in an inhomogeneous magnetic field. The author's interest in the problems considered in this study was attracted by a report presented by Professor Shercliff at the Institute of Mechanics, Moscow State University, in May 1967, on the studies of English scientists on conducting fluid flows in a strong uniform magnetic field.  相似文献

The motion of a thin liquid film of viscous incompressible fluid on the horizontal surface in the presence of a magnetizable surfactant on the free boundary in the external inhomogeneous magnetic field is investigated. Surfactant diffusion along the free surface and the dependence of the surface tension on the magnetic field strength are taken into account. The system of evolutionary equations is derived in the lubricant approximation and steady-state film flows and their stability in the case of constant film thickness and constant surfactant number density are investigated with regard to the Marangoni effect.  相似文献

In order to model a ship hull’s response to the impact of surface waves, the two-dimensional problem of wave impact on an elastic beam whose ends are connected by springs with a rigid structure uniformly submerged in a fluid is considered. The fluid is assumed to be ideal and incompressible and its flow symmetric; the lateral bending of the beam is described by the Euler equation. The fluid flow and the size of the wetted region are determined simultaneously with the calculation of the the beam deflection within the framework of the Wagner approach which takes into account the reshaping of the free surface of the fluid on interacting with a body. The stresses and strains arising in the beam and at its ends during impact are found. The numerical algorithm developed makes it possible to analyze the elastic effects in fluid impacts on thin-walled structures of finite length. Moreover, as the stiffness of the connecting springs tends to zero, the solution of this problem describes the impact of an elastic beam with free ends on a weakly curved fluid surface.  相似文献

We consider the creeping motion of a thin layer of a nonvolatile viscous fluid spreading due to capillary forces over a rigid surface covered by a thin homogeneous film (microfilm). The influence of van der Waals forces on the asymptotic slope of the free boundary of the layer is studied in the region of large thickness, where capillary forces dominate. A solution of the problem of the slope angle is obtained for the entire possible range of the microfilm thickness. In the limit of small thickness of the microfilm, this solution is in agreement with the well-known solution of the problem of the dynamics of wetting of a dry surface in the presence of a precursory film and van der Waals forces. The role of the condition at the end of the precursory film is studied. Institute of Mechanics of Multiphase Systems, Siberian Division, Russian Academy of Sciences. Tyumen' 625000. The flow of a thin film of generalized Newtonian fluid down a vertical wall in the gravity field is considered. For small flow-rates, in the long-wave approximation, an equation describing the evolution of the surface perturbations is obtained. Depending on the signs of the coefficients, this equation is equivalent to one of four equations with solutions significantly different in evolutionary behavior. For the most interesting case, soliton solutions are numerically found.  相似文献
