The steady flow and heat transfer of a hybrid nanofluid past a permeable stretching/shrinking wedge with magnetic field and radiation effects are studied. The governing equations of the hybrid nanofluid are converted to the similarity equations by techniques of the similarity transformation. The bvp4c function that is available in MATLAB software is utilized for solving the similarity equations numerically. The numerical results are obtained for selected different values of parameters. The present paper deals with the analysis of boundary layer flow and heat transfer of a dusty fluid over a stretching sheet with the effect of non-uniform heat source/sink. Here we consider two types of heating processes namely (i) prescribed surface temperature and (ii) prescribed surface heat flux. The momentum and thermal boundary layer equations of motion are solved numerically using Runge Kutta Fehlberg fourth–fifth order method (RKF45 Method). The effects of fluid particle interaction parameter, Eckert number, Prandtl number, Number of dust particle and non-uniform heat generation/absorption parameter on temperature distribution are analyzed and also the effect of wall temperature gradient function and wall temperature function are tabulated and discussed.  相似文献

The time evolution in the temperature field resulting from the sudden introduction of a heat source into the already fully established steady MHD flow of an electrically conducting fluid past a linearly stretching isothermal surface is considered. The problem is shown to be fully described by two dimensionless parameters, a modified magnetic field strength ?? and a heat source strength Q. Numerical solutions of the initial-value problem show that there is a critical value Q c of the parameter Q, dependent on ??, such that, for Q<Q c , the solution approaches a steady state at large times and, for Q>Q c , the solutions grows exponentially large as time increases. This growth rate is determined through an eigenvalue problem which also determines the critical value Q c . The limits of Q c for both small and large values of ?? are discussed.  相似文献

This letter is concerned with the plane and axisymmetric stagnation-point flows and heat transfer of an electrically-conducting fluid past a stretching sheet in the presence of the thermal radiation and heat generation or absorption. The analytical solutions for the velocity distribution and dimensionless temperature profiles are obtained for the various values of the ratio of free stream velocity and stretching velocity, heat source parameter, Prandtl number, thermal radiation parameter, the suction and injection velocity parameter and magnetic parameter and dimensionality index in the series form with the help of homotopy analysis method (HAM). Convergence of the series is explicitly discussed. In addition, shear stress and heat flux at the surface are calculated.  相似文献

The boundary layer flow and heat transfer of a fluid through a porous medium towards a stretching sheet in presence of heat generation or absorption is considered in this analysis. Fluid viscosity is assumed to vary as a linear function of temperature. The symmetry groups admitted by the corresponding boundary value problem are obtained by using a special form of Lie group transformations viz. scaling group of transformations. These transformations are used to convert the partial differential equations corresponding to the momentum and the energy equations into highly non-linear ordinary differential equations. Numerical solutions of these equations are obtained by shooting method. It is found that the horizontal velocity decreases with increasing temperature-dependent fluid viscosity parameter up to the crossing-over point but increases after that point and the temperature decreases in this case. With the increase of permeability parameter of the porous medium the fluid velocity decreases but the temperature increases at a particular point of the sheet. Effects of Prandtl number on the velocity boundary layer and on the thermal boundary layer are studied and plotted.  相似文献

This study is focused on the heat and mass transfer effects in a magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow of a viscous nanofluid saturating a porous medium past an exponentially radiating stretching sheet. The governing differential equations are transformed to a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations by suitable transformations. It is noted that stratification affects the local Nusselt and Sherwood numbers.  相似文献

The boundary layer flow of a nanofluid past a stretching/shrinking sheet with hydrodynamic and thermal slip boundary conditions is studied. Numerical solutions to the governing equations are obtained using a shooting method. The results are found for the skin friction coefficient, the local Nusselt number, and the local Sherwood number as well as the velocity, temperature, and concentration profiles for some values of the velocity slip parameter, thermal slip parameter, stretching/shrinking parameter, thermophoresis parameter, and Brownian motion parameter. The results show that the local Nusselt number, which represents the heat transfer rate, is lower for higher values of thermal slip parameter, thermophoresis parameter, and Brownian motion parameter.  相似文献

A study is presented for magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) flow and heat transfer characteristics of a viscous incompressible electrically conducting micropolar fluid in a channel with stretching walls. The micropolar model introduced by Eringen is used to describe the working fluid. The transformed self similar ordinary differential equations together with the associated boundary conditions are solved numerically by an algorithm based on quasi-linearization and multilevel discretization. The effects of some physical parameters on the flow and heat transfer are discussed and presented through tables and graphs. The present investigations may be beneficial in the flow and thermal control of polymeric processing.  相似文献

We study the MHD flow and also heat transfer in a viscoelastic liquid over a stretching sheet in the presence of radiation. The stretching of the sheet is assumed to be proportional to the distance from the slit. Two different temperature conditions are studied, namely (i) the sheet with prescribed surface temperature (PST) and (ii) the sheet with prescribed wall heat flux (PHF). The basic boundary layer equations for momentum and heat transfer, which are non-linear partial differential equations, are converted into non-linear ordinary differential equations by means of similarity transformation. The resulting non-linear momentum differential equation is solved exactly. The energy equation in the presence of viscous dissipation (or frictional heating), internal heat generation or absorption, and radiation is a differential equation with variable coefficients, which is transformed to a confluent hypergeometric differential equation using a new variable and using the Rosseland approximation for the radiation. The governing differential equations are solved analytically and the effects of various parameters on velocity profiles, skin friction coefficient, temperature profile and wall heat transfer are presented graphically. The results have possible technological applications in liquid-based systems involving stretchable materials.  相似文献

The magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow and heat transfer characteristics for the boundary layer flow over a permeable stretching sheet are considered. Velocity and thermal slip conditions are taken into account. Problem formulation is developed in the presence of thermal radiation. Governing non‐linear problem is solved by a homotopy analysis method. Convergence of the derived solutions is studied. Numerical values of skin‐friction coefficient and local Nusselt number are tabulated. Effects of pertinent parameters on the velocity and temperature profiles are discussed. Comparison between the present and previous limiting results is shown. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Sufficient conditions are found for the existence of similar solutions of the mixed convection flow of a Powell-Eyring fluid over a nonlinear stretching permeable sur- face in the presence of magnetic field. To achieve this, one parameter linear group trans- formation is applied. The governing momentum and energy equations are transformed to nonlinear ordinary differential equations by use of a similarity transformation. These equations are solved by the homotopy analysis method (HAM) to obtain the approximate solutions. The effects of magnetic field, suction, and buoyancy on the Powell-Eyring fluid flow with heat transfer inside the boundary layer are analyzed. The effects of the non- Newtonian fluid (Powell-Eyring model) parameters ε and δon the skin friction and local heat transfer coefficients for the cases of aiding and opposite flows are investigated and discussed. It is observed that the momentum boundary layer thickness increases and the thermal boundary layer thickness decreases with the increase in ε whereas the momentum boundary layer thickness decreases and thermal boundary layer thickness increases with the increase in δ for both the aiding and opposing mixed convection flows.  相似文献

The problem of the steady magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) stagnation-point flow of an incompressible viscous fluid over a stretching sheet is studied. The effect of an induced magnetic field is taken into account. The nonlinear partial differential equations are transformed into ordinary differential equations via the similarity transformation. The transformed boundary layer equations are solved numerically using the shooting method. Numerical results are obtained for various magnetic parameters and Prandtl numbers. The effects of the induced magnetic field on the skin friction coefficient, the local Nusselt number, the velocity, and the temperature profiles are presented graphically and discussed in detail.  相似文献

In this paper, the problem of steady magnetohydrodynamic boundary layer flow and heat transfer of a viscous and electrically conducting fluid over a stretching sheet is studied. The effect of the induced magnetic field is taken into account. The transformed ordinary differential equations are solved numerically using the finite-difference scheme known as the Keller-box method. Numerical results are obtained for various values of the magnetic parameter, the reciprocal magnetic Prandtl number and the Prandtl number. The effects of these parameters on the flow and heat transfer characteristics are determined and discussed in detail. When the magnetic field is absent, the closed analytical results for the skin friction are compared with the exact numerical results. Also the numerical results for the heat flux from the stretching surface are compared with the results reported by other authors when the magnetic field is absent. It is found that very good agreement exists.  相似文献

An investigation has been conducted on the MHD Casson fluid and heat transfer over an unsteady stretching sheet with viscous dissipation effects. With suitable dimensionless variables, partial differential equations are reduced to ordinary differential equations, which are then solved by the homotopy analysis method. Dependences of flow characteristics on various parameters involved into the equations are obtained.

In the present work, the effect of MHD flow and heat transfer within a boundary layer flow on an upper-convected Maxwell (UCM) fluid over a stretching sheet is examined. The governing boundary layer equations of motion and heat transfer are non-dimensionalized using suitable similarity variables and the resulting transformed, ordinary differential equations are then solved numerically by shooting technique with fourth order Runge–Kutta method. For a UCM fluid, a thinning of the boundary layer and a drop in wall skin friction coefficient is predicted to occur for higher the elastic number. The objective of the present work is to investigate the effect of Maxwell parameter β, magnetic parameter Mn and Prandtl number Pr on the temperature field above the sheet.  相似文献
