Multiplicity distributions in various rapidity intervals for charged particles produced in collisions of 360 GeV/c protons with aluminium (Al) and gold (Au) targets are presented. The data were analysed separately for the forward and backward hemispheres. Each distribution is well described by a negative binomial distribution. The experimental distributions are compared with the predictions of the multichain model calculated by the Monte Carlo program MCMHA in which the intranuclear cascade process is included, and also with the Lund Monte Carlo FRITIOF. The results of MCMHA reproduce quite well the multiplicity distributions for various rapidity intervals.  相似文献

Experimental results of various groups are analysed in order to establish empirical laws on how the multiplicity and rapidity distributions of produced particles depend on the nature of the projectile hadron, its energy E and on the number v of struck nucleons. Global observables of these distributions (mean multiplicity, mean rapidity and variances) are parametrized. The parameters which govern the effects of multiple scattering are found independent of the energy E and of the nature of the hadron. Then, using identical hadron-nucleon input data, we evaluate the predictions of eight theoretical models and compare them with the empirical laws. Some models can be ruled out, while others, though based on very different physical assumptions, are compatible with experiment.  相似文献

Diffractive dissociation of nuclei (Be, Al, W) in collisions with 450 GeV/c protons,pApX, has been measured with the HELIOS spectrometer at the CERN Super Proton synchrotron. The dependence of the single-diffraction cross-section on the nuclear massA can be parametrized as SD mb×A 0.35±0.02, showing the peripheral nature of the process. The differential cross-section dSD=(3.8±0.3)mb ×A 0.35±0.02, is exponential with the slope parameter, increasing from 6.2±0.4 (GeV/c)–2 for beryllium to 7.9±0.5 (GeV/c)–2 for tungsten. The slope parameter also increases with increasing massM X of the diffractively produced state. The rapidity, multiplicity, and transverse-momentum distributions of the particles of the diffractively produced stateX show a longitudinal phase-space population and are remarkably insensitive to the nuclear mass. This, together with theA 1/3 dependence of SD, suggests that the dominant process of nuclear diffractive excitation is the dissociation of single nucleons.Deceased  相似文献

We have studied the inclusive production of strange meson and baryon resonances in 360 GeV/cpp interactions. Cross sections forK *+(892) andK *?(892) are estimated to be 4.42±0.62 mb and 2.54±0.47 mb respectively and those for +(1385) and ?(1385) are 0.67±0.11 mb and 0.26±0.07 mb respectively. Longitudinal and transverse momentum distributions forK *(892) and Σ(1385) are presented, as well as for their decay productsK 0 and Λ. An estimation is given on theK *(1430) and *(1915) productions.  相似文献

The production of noncoplanar hadron pairs in proton-nucleus interactions is studied experimentally for the case where the transverse momenta of product particles are in excess of 1 GeV/c. The values obtained for the exponent in the A dependence of the cross section for the production of noncoplanar hadron pairs are substantially greater than those for coplanar pairs. This nuclear-mass-number dependence for the production of hadron pairs can be explained by the contribution of multiparton interactions in proton-nucleus collisions.  相似文献

pTa interactions have been studied. The total inelastic cross section, multiplicities, net charge distributions and inclusive momentum and rapidity spectra for produced particles are reported. The single-pion production reactions ppdπ+, ppnpπ+ and ppppπ0 were measured at a beam momentum of 0.95GeV/c ( T p ≈ 400MeV) using the short version of the COSY-TOF spectrometer. The implementation of a central calorimeter provided particle identification, energy determination and neutron detection in addition to time-of-flight and angle measurements. Thus, all pion production channels were recorded with 1-4 overconstraints. The total and differential cross-sections obtained are compared to previous data and theoretical calculations. Main emphasis is put on the discussion of the ppπ0 channel, where we obtain angular distributions different from previous experimental results, however, partly in good agreement with recent phenomenological and theoretical predictions. In particular, we observe very large anisotropies for the π0 angular distributions in the kinematical region of small relative proton momenta revealing there a dominance of proton spinflip transitions associated with π0 s and d partial waves and emphasizing the important role of π0 d-waves.  相似文献

The central calorimeter provided particle identification, energy determination and neutron detection in addition to time-of-flight and angle measurements from other detector parts. Thus all pion production channels were recorded with 1-4 overconstraints. The main emphasis is put on the presentation and discussion of the np channel, since the results on the other channels have already been published previously. The total and differential cross-sections obtained are compared to theoretical calculations. In contrast to the pp channel we observe in the np channel a strong influence of the excitation. In particular, the pion angular distribution exhibits a (3 cos2 + 1) -dependence, typical for a pure s -channel excitation and identical to that observed in the d channel. Since the latter is understood by a s -channel resonance in the 1 D 2 pn partial wave, we discuss an analogous scenario for the pn channel.  相似文献

Direct production of single electrons in proton-nucleus collisions at 13 GeV/c has been measured. A rising eπ ratio with decreasing pT above the 10?4 level is observed for low pT single electrons. The source of the rising eπ ratio at low eπ ratio at low pT is discussed in connection with the low mass dielectron continuum below the ? mass region.  相似文献

Production of charged kaons in proton-sulphur, proton-gold, sulphur-sulphur and oxygen-gold collisions at 200 GeV/nucleon has been studied in the NA35 Streamer Chamber experiment. The experimental data from the 2-m propane bubble chamber have been analyzed for pC → Λ(K s 0 )X reactions at 10 GeV/c. The estimation of experimental inclusive cross sections for Λ and K s 0 production in the p 12C collision is equal to σΛ = (13.3 ± 1.7) mb and σ K s 0 = (4.6 ± 0.6) mb, respectively. The measured 〈Λ〉/〈π+〉 ratio from pC reaction is equal to (5.3 ± 0.8) × 10−2, and it is approximately two times larger than the 〈Λ〉/〈π+〉 ratio simulated by the FRITIOF model and than that of experimental pp reactions at the same energy.
