In this work, a comparative study on the electrical, morphological, and thermal properties of polypropylene/multiwalled carbon nanotubes (PP/CNT) composites which were prepared by three different processing methods, such as compression molding (CM, shear rate: ~0 s−1), conventional injection molding (CIM, shear rate: ~102 s−1), and microinjection molding (μIM, shear rate: ~105 s−1), was reported. The difference in shear rates among these processing methods and matrix viscosity would significantly affect the state of filler distribution, thereby determining the properties of subsequent moldings. Electrical conductivity results showed that the percolation threshold of PP/CNT moldings followed a trend of μIM > CIM > CM. A higher degree of CNT orientation and a better filler distribution were achieved under the influence of higher shearing conditions, as corroborated by scanning electron microscope observations and Raman spectral analysis. Moreover, increasing filler concentrations played a positive role in improving the thermal stability of PP/CNT composites and the formation of CNT network was believed to be a contributing factor.  相似文献

The rheological properties of styrene–butadiene rubber (SBR) loaded with dual phase filler were measured using Monsanto Processability Tester (MPT) at three different temperatures (100°C, 110°C and 130°C) and four different shear rates (61.3, 306.3, 613, and 1004.5 s−1). The effect of electron beam modification of dual phase filler in absence and presence of trimethylol propane triacrylate (TMPTA) or triethoxysilylpropyltetrasulphide (Si-69) on melt flow properties of SBR was also studied. The viscosity of all the systems decreases with shear rate indicating their pseudoplastic or shear thinning nature. The higher shear viscosity for the SBR loaded with the electron beam modified filler is explained in terms of variation in structure of the filler upon electron beam irradiation. Die swell of the modified filler loaded SBR is slightly higher than that of the unmodified filler loaded rubber, which is explained by calculating normal stress difference for the systems. Activation energy of the modified filler loaded SBR systems is also slightly higher than that of the control filler loaded SBR system.  相似文献

Polypropylene (PP) composites filled with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were prepared using a twin-screw extruder. The melt flow properties of the composites were measured with a capillary rheometer in a temperature range from 180 to 230 °C and at various apparent shear rates varying from 100 to 4000 s−1. The results showed that the melt shear stress increased almost linearly while the melt shear viscosity decreased almost linearly with increasing shear rates in a bi-logarithmic coordinate system. The melt shear flow followed the power law relationship and the dependence of the melt shear viscosity on temperature obeyed the Arrhenius equation. The relationship between the melt shear viscosity and the MWCNT weight fraction was roughly linear under the investigated range of temperature or shear rate.  相似文献

The extrudate swell ratios of polypropylene (PP) composite melts filled with graphene nano-platelets (GNPs) were measured using a capillary rheometer within a temperature range of 180–230 °C and apparent shear rate varying from 100 to 4000 s−1 in order to identify the effects of the filler content and test conditions on the melt die-swell behavior. It was found that the values of the extrudate swell ratio of the composites increased with increasing apparent shear rate, with the correlation between them obeying a power law relationship, while the values of the extrudate swell ratio decreased almost linearly with rise in temperature. The values of the melt extrudate swell ratio increased approximately linearly with increasing shear stress, and decreased roughly linearly with an increase of the GNP weight fraction. In addition, the extrudate swell mechanisms are discussed from the observation of the fracture surface of the extrudate using scanning electronic microscopy. This study provides a basis for further development of graphene reinforced polymer composites with desirable mechanical performance and good damage resistance.  相似文献

High-strength woven fabrics and polymers are ideal materials for use in structural and aerospace systems. It is very important to characterize their mechanical properties under extreme conditions such as varying temperatures, impact and ballistic loadings. In this present work, the effects of strain rate and temperature on the tensile properties of basalt fiber reinforced polymer (BFRP) were investigated. These composites were fabricated using vacuum assisted resin infusion (VARI). Dynamic tensile tests of BFRP coupons were conducted at strain rates ranging from 19 to 133 s−1 using a servo-hydraulic high-rate testing system. Additionally, effect of temperature ranging from −25 to 100 °C was studied at the strain rate of 19 s−1. The failure behaviors of BFRP were recorded by a Phantom v7.3 high speed camera and analyzed using digital image correlation (DIC). The results showed that tensile strength, toughness and maximum strain increased 45.5%, 17.3% and 12.9%, respectively, as strain rate increased from 19 to 133 s−1. Moreover, tensile strength was independent of varying temperature up to 50 °C but decreased at 100 °C, which may be caused by the softening of epoxy matrix and weakening of interfaces between fibers and matrix when the glass transition temperature was exceeded.  相似文献

Nanosized calcium carbonate (nano-CaCO3) filled polycaprolactone (PCL) bio-composites were prepared by using a twin-screw extruder. The melt flow behavior of the composites, including the entry pressure drop, melt shear flow curves and melt shear viscosity, were measured through a capillary rheometer operated in a temperature range of 170∼200 °C and shear rates varying from 50 to 103 s−1. The entry pressure drop showed a non-linear increase with increasing shear stress when the filler weight fraction was less than 3%, while it decreased slightly with an increase of shear stress at a filler weight fraction of 4%. The melt shear flow roughly followed a power law, while the effect of temperature on the melt shear viscosity was estimated by using the Arrhenius equation. Moreover, the influence of the nano-CaCO3 on the melt shear viscosity of the PCL composite was not significant at low filler levels.  相似文献

Polyurethane (PU) composite foams were successfully reinforced with different concentrations (1 wt%, 2 wt%, 5 wt%) of nutmeg filler. The effect of nutmeg filler concentration on mechanical, thermal, antimicrobial and anti-aging properties of PU composite foams was investigated. PU foams were examined by rheological behavior, processing parameters, cellular structure (Scanning Electron Microscopy analysis), mechanical properties (compression test, impact test, three-point bending test, impact strength), thermal properties (Thermogravimetric Analysis), viscoelastic behavior (Dynamic Mechanical Analysis) as well as selected application properties (thermal conductivity, flammability, apparent density, dimensional stability, surface hydrophobicity, water absorption, color characteristic). In order to Disc Diffusion Method, all PU composites were tested against selected bacteria (Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus). Based on the results, it can be concluded that the addition of 1 wt% of nutmeg filler leads to PU composite foams with improved compression strength (e.g. improvement by ~19%), higher flexural strength (e.g. increase of ~11%), improved impact strength (e.g. increase of ~32%) and comparable thermal conductivity (0.023–0.034 W m−1 K−1). Moreover, the incorporation of nutmeg filler has a positive effect on the fire resistance of PU materials. For example, the results from the cone calorimeter test showed that the incorporation of 5 wt% of nutmeg filler significantly reduced the peak of heat release rate (pHRR) by ca. 60% compared with that of unmodified PU foam. It has been also proved that nutmeg filler may act as a natural anti-aging compound of PU foams. The incorporation of nutmeg filler in each amount successfully improved the stabilization of PU composite foams. Based on the antibacterial results, it has been shown that the addition of nutmeg filler significantly improved the antibacterial properties of PU composite foams against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.  相似文献

The extensional rheological properties of low density polyethylene (LDPE)/linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) blend melts were measured using a melt spinning technique under temperatures ranging from 160 to 200 °C and die extrusion velocities varying from 9 to 36 mm/s. The results showed that the melt elongation stress decreased with a rise of temperature while it increased with increasing extensional strain rate and the LDPE weight fraction. The dependence of the melt elongation viscosity on temperature roughly obeyed the Arrhenius equation, it increased with increasing extensional strain rate and the LDPE weight fraction when the extensional strain rate was lower than 0.5 s−1, and it reached a maximum when the extensional strain rate was about 0.5 s−1, which can be attributed to the stress hardening effect.  相似文献

The present paper is concerned with the plasticity of a polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) in tension. Strain rate strongly influences the plastic behaviour, but the variation of the elastic properties is almost negligible within the range of strain rates considered in the study (from 1.6 × 10−4 s−1 up to 1.6 × 10−1 s−1). In particular, the yield stress and the ultimate tensile strength are strongly rate-dependent. A one-dimensional elasto-viscoplastic phenomenological model is proposed and analysed. Despite the nonlinearity of the model equations, only one tensile test performed with variable strain rate is sufficient to identify all material parameters. Model predictions are compared with experiments showing good agreement.  相似文献

New types of composites were prepared using low-density polyethylene (LDPE) filled with modified organic filler, Canadian switch grass coated with polypyrrole (PPy). The grass surface was entirely covered when 10 wt.% of pyrrole was used for the modification, as confirmed by scanning electron microscopy and infrared spectroscopy. LDPE composites filled with modified grass were prepared by melt mixing and their properties were compared with the properties of the composites filled with unmodified grass. The influence of crosslinking, induced by 1 wt.% of peroxide, on mechanical, thermal and electrical properties of the composites was investigated. Crosslinking enhanced the tensile strength of the prepared composites in the entire range of the filler content. The Young’s modulus of the composites prepared by crosslinking is slightly lowered when compared with the uncrosslinked composites if the filler content is less than 60 wt.%, for higher filler content it is increased. The conductivity of the uncrosslinked composites containing 40 wt.% of grass modified by PPy was in the range 1 × 10−6 S cm−1, which is a value by 5 orders of magnitude higher than the conductivity of the crosslinked materials. The presence of PPy on grass surface leads to a reduction of crosslinking of the LDPE matrix.  相似文献

New types of electrically conductive polymeric composites were prepared on a base of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) matrix filled with silver-coated polyamide (PA) particles. The electrical, mechanical and adhesive properties of those composites are reported in this paper. The percolation concentration of the filler within a matrix was found to be 4 vol.%. Composites filled with high filler content were highly electrically conductive; their electrical conductivity reached the value of 6.8 × 102 S cm−1. Mechanical properties and rheology of these composites were discussed. The adhesive properties of the composites to metal sharply increased with an increase in the filler content.  相似文献

The mechanical properties of composite modified double base (CMDB) propellant significantly depend on the strain rate. In particular, the yield stress increases dramatically at higher strain rates. To study this behaviour, low, intermediate and high strain rate compression testing (1.7 × 10−4 to 4 × 103 s−1) of CMDB propellant at room temperature was conducted by using a universal testing machine, a hydraulic testing machine and a split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) system, respectively. The yield stress was observed to increase bilinearly with the logarithm of strain rate, with a sharp increase in slope at a strain rate of 5 × 101 s−1, which was supported by dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) testing. The Ree-Eyring model, involving two rate-activated processes, was employed to predict the yield behaviour of CMDB propellant over a wide range of strain rates. The predictions are in excellent agreement with the experimental data.  相似文献

We have demonstrated the effect of shear rate on the outer surface morphology of polyethersulfone (PES) hollow fiber ultrafiltration (UF) membranes by an atomic force microscope (AFM). A digital instrument (DI) AFM was used to reveal the surface morphology of hollow fiber membranes prepared with varying shear rates from 1305 to 11,066 s−1. A tapping mode was operated for studying the polymeric membranes when AFM was applied to image the surface of a fiber in air. AFM images of the outer surface have revealed that the nodules in the outer skin appeared to be randomly arranged at low shear rates but formed bands that were aligned in the direction of dope extrusion when the shear rate increased. Both nodule sizes in the fiber spinning and transversal directions decreased with increasing shear rate possibly because of chain disentanglement and thermodynamically favored. This result has not been reported so far. The analysis of AFM images showed that the roughness of the outer surface of hollow fiber UF membranes in terms of Rms, Ra and Rz decreased with an increase in shear rate. The pure water flux of the membranes was nearly proportional to the mean roughness and higher mean roughness resulted in lower separation of membranes. AFM data also imply that there was a certain critical value of shear rate around 3585 s−1, the roughness decreased significantly with an increase in shear rate below 3585 s−1 and almost leveled off or in a much slower pace above this shear rate.  相似文献

In this work a layer structure from styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) composites and PU foam with improved flame retardancy property and high sound absorption coefficient at frequency range (200–500 Hz). Different types of flame retardants; iron (acrylic-co-acrylamide) as metal chelate (MC), magnesium hydroxide (MOH) and sodium tripolyphosphate (STP) were blended with SBR. The type and loading level of flame retardant had a great effect on filler dispersion and consequently on mechanical properties of SBR. MOH exhibited the best dispersion as indicated from scanning electron microscope (SEM), and SBR/MOH samples had almost the highest crosslink density (16.04*10−5 g−1 mol) and the best mechanical properties where the tensile strength was improved by 32.7% at 40 phr MOH. Horizontal burning rate of SBR composites indicated that MC and MOH reduced the rate of burning of SBR at all loading levels. TGA data presented that the addition of flame retardants to SBR increased the maximum decomposition temperature in all composites. A double and triple layer structures of SBR composite and PU foam was designed. The effect of 2.5 cm air cavity on the sound absorption coefficient of SBR-PU foam layered structure was studied. The presence of air cavity behind the layered structure improved the sound absorption in the range of (200–500 Hz) better than the existence of it between the layers. The triple-layer structure gave higher sound absorption coefficient at lower frequencies than that obtained with the double-layer structure where it reached to ≥0.98 at 315 Hz.  相似文献

Gel polymer composites electrolytes containing nano LiAlO2 as filler were prepared using a solution cast technique and characterized using different techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermal analysis (TG, DSC), Fourier transform infra – red spectroscopy (FT-IR) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). X-ray diffraction analysis showed the effect of lithium tri fluoro methane sulphonate (LiCF3SO3), poly vinyl acetate (PVAc) and nano lithium aluminate (LiAlO2) on the crystalline structure of the poly vinylidene fluoride –co– hexa fluoro propylene (PVDF-co-HFP) matrix containing ethylene carbonate (EC) and diethyl carbonate (DEC) as plasticizers. FT-IR analysis confirmed both the good dissolution of the LiCF3SO3 salt and the good interaction of the nano LiAlO2 filler with the polymer matrix. TG analysis showed the good thermal stability of the LiAlO2 samples compared to the free one. Also, addition of nano LiAlO2 filler enhanced the conductivity value of the polymer composites electrolytes. The sample containing 2 wt% of LiAlO2 showed the highest conductivity value, 4.98 × 10−3 Ω −1 cm−1 at room temperature, with good thermal stability behavior (Td = 362 °C). This good conductive and thermally stable polymer nano composite electrolyte was evaluated as a promising membrane for lithium ion batteries application.  相似文献

The recycling of post-consumer plastics and their utilization as raw materials to develop value-added products has become an important goal worldwide. The present work is concerned with the thermo-mechanical analysis of recycled high-density polyethylene (HDPE) under uniaxial tensile loading. The main focus is to propose a one-dimensional phenomenological model able to describe the influence of temperature and strain rate on the mechanical behavior. Tensile tests were performed over a wide range of temperatures (from 25°C to 100°C). Each experiment was performed under controlled strain rate varying from 7.25 × 10−5 s−1 to 7.25 × 10−3 s−1 in steps. It is shown that only one tensile test performed at three different temperatures is necessary to fully identify experimentally all material parameters that arise in the theory. Thus, with this experimental procedure, the number of tests used to evaluate the mechanical properties of recycled HDPE is significantly reduced. The experiments are compared with the model predictions and show good agreement.  相似文献

The effect of filler types of mica and talc on the oscillatory shear rheological properties, mechanical performance, and morphology of the chemically coupled polypropylene composites is studied in this work. The Maleic Anhydride grafted Polypropylene (MAPP) was used as an adhesion promoter for coupling mineral particles with the polypropylene matrix. The samples were prepared by a co‐rotating, L/D = 40, 25 mm twin screw extruder. The tensile tests carried out on the injection molded samples showed a reinforcing effect of talc up to 20 wt% on the Polypropylene (PP). The tensile strength of PP‐mica composites showed a slight decrease at all percentages of mica. The effect of chemical coupling by using MAPP on the tensile strength was more pronounced in increasing the tensile strength for PP‐mica than PP‐talc composites. The complex viscosity curve of pure PP and the composites, showed a Newtonian plateau (η0) up to 30 wt% at low frequency terminal zone. By increasing the filler content to 40 and 50 wt%, the complex viscosity at very low shear rates sharply increased and showed yield behavior that can be due to the formation of filler particles networks in the melt. At the optimum amount of coupling agent, a minimum in cross over frequency curve against MAPP content is observed. The optimum amount of coupling agent for PP‐talc composites is about 1.5%, and about 3% for PP‐mica formulations. The analysis of viscosity behavior at power‐law high region, revealed the more shear thinning effect of mica than talc on the PP matrix resin. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Kinetics of the reaction of Cl atoms with methanol has been investigated at 2 Torr total pressure of helium and over a wide temperature range 225-950 K, using a discharge flow reactor combined with an electron impact ionization quadrupole mass spectrometer. The rate constant of the reaction Cl + CH3OH → products (1) was determined using both absolute measurements under pseudo-first order conditions, monitoring the kinetics of Cl-atom consumption in excess of methanol and relative rate method, k1 = (5.1 ± 0.8) × 10−11 cm3 molecule−1 s−1, and was found to be temperature independent over the range T = 225-950 K. The rate constant of the reaction Cl + Br2 → BrCl + Br (3) was measured in an absolute way monitoring Cl-atom decays in excess of Br2: k3 = 1.64 × 10−10 exp(34/T) cm3 molecule−1 s−1 at T = 225-960 K (with conservative 15% uncertainty). The experimental data for k3 can also be adequately represented by the temperature independent value of k3 = (1.8 ± 0.3) × 10−10 cm3 molecule−1 s−1. The kinetic data from the present study are compared with previous measurements.  相似文献

Arresting of conducting carbon black into polymeric matrix to develop flexible and light weight composite has been a widely practiced platform. Extensive development of telecommunication creates a major vexations regarding radiation pollution. Thereafter, we have been motivated to develop low‐cost, flexible composites of specialty carbon black VXC (Vulcan XC 72)–filled ethylene methyl acrylate (EMA) by mechanical mixing technique. Developed composite has significant conductivity (6.67 × 10−4 S cm−1) with promising mechanical and thermal properties. Dispersion of high‐structured carbon blacks in EMA was investigated by small angle X‐ray scattering to reflect the dependency of conducting mesh formation on dispersion. Interconnected filler network development has been visualized by field emission scanning electron microscope and high‐resolution transmission electron microscope. Electromagnetic interference shielding value in the X band has calculated to be 30.8 dB. Such features can make this EVXC (EMA‐Vulcan XC 72) composite a useful alternate for flexible electromagnetic interference shielding material.  相似文献

The effect of vinylacetate unit content in sevilen used as a polymer matrix or polyethylene compatibilizer on the properties of wood-polymer composites with a thermoplastic binders and filler of plant origin is studied. It is shown that the introduction of vinylacetate units decreases the tensile strength, contact elastic modulus, Brinell hardness, and water absorption of the composites, but increases the relative tensile elongation and impact viscosity without notch.  相似文献
