We derive analytical estimators of non-life insurance risk in multi-year view for the multivariate additive loss reserving model. Thereby we jointly assess reserve and premium risks of multiple years for portfolios of possibly dependent lines of business in one integrated approach. By extending existing formulae for the univariate additive model to the multivariate case, risk estimators for the aggregated portfolio now include the inherent dependencies among all lines of business. The resulting risk evaluation over one-year and general multi-year horizons is fundamental to regulatory reporting (e.g. the ORSA process in Solvency II) and risk-based business planning of non-life insurers with multiple lines of business. A case study illustrates the fruitful application of our formulae and reproduces previous findings for the special case of ultimo view.  相似文献

Exponential dispersion models are well used and studied in quantitative risk management and actuarial science. One of the main interests is the risk measurement analysis of such models when facing extreme loss events. In this paper, we propose two multivariate risk measures based on conditional expectation and derive the explicit formulae for exponential dispersion models. In particular, our multivariate risk measures could facilitate a systemic risk measure with explicit expressions for exponential dispersion models subject to any pre-specified “systemic event.” We provide two numerical examples based on practical data to show the advantages of our approach in the context of exponential dispersion models.  相似文献

In participating life insurance, management decisions regarding the asset composition can substantially impact the value of a policy from the policyholders’ perspective as well as the insurer’s risk situation. Due to the long-term guarantees often embedded in these contracts, life insurers typically invest a considerable portion of their capital in long-term assets such as corporate and government bonds. Besides interest rate risk, the value of these bond investments is thus particularly influenced by credit risk. Thus, the aim of this paper is to examine the impact of market risk associated with the asset composition on fair valuation and risk assessment with focus on credit risk and its interaction with equity risk and interest rate risk. Our analysis emphasizes that the consideration of credit risk associated with bonds has a strong impact on the fair valuation and risk measurement in the context of participating life insurance contracts, even in case of higher grade bond exposures.  相似文献

We study the distribution of tax payments in the model of Kyprianou and Zhou [Kyprianou, A.E., Zhou, X., 2009. General tax structures and the Lévy insurance risk model. J. Appl. Probab. (in press)], that is a Lévy insurance risk model with a surplus-dependent tax rate. More precisely, after a short discussion on the so-called tax identity, we derive a recursive formula for arbitrary moments of the discounted tax payments until ruin and we identify the distribution of the tax payments when there is no force of interest.  相似文献

This paper proposes a Conditional Value-at-Risk Minimization (CVaRM) approach to optimize an insurer’s product mix. By incorporating the natural hedging strategy of Cox and Lin (2007) and the two-factor stochastic mortality model of Cairns et al. (2006b), we calculate an optimize product mix for insurance companies to hedge against the systematic mortality risk under parameter uncertainty. To reflect the importance of required profit, we further integrate the premium loading of systematic risk. We compare the hedging results to those using the duration match method of Wang et al. (forthcoming), and show that the proposed CVaRM approach has a narrower quantile of loss distribution after hedging—thereby effectively reducing systematic mortality risk for life insurance companies.  相似文献

We discuss the pricing of defaultable assets in an incomplete information model where the default time is given by a first hitting time of an unobservable process. We show that in a fairly general Markov setting, the indicator function of the default has an absolutely continuous compensator. Given this compensator we then discuss the optional projection of a class of semimartingales onto the filtration generated by the observation process and the default indicator process. Available formulas for the pricing of defaultable assets are analyzed in this setting and some alternative formulas are suggested.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to propose the first mathematical model for spillover effects caused by operational losses and to calibrate it based on an extensive empirical study of spillover effects and their influencing factors in the US and European banking and insurance industry. Our event study shows significant spillover effects due to operational losses, whereby a higher number of firms faces contagion effects than competitive effects. A regression analysis further reveals that spillover effects are rather information-based than pure, as event and firm characteristics have a significant impact, specifically external fraud, the return on equity of the announcing firm and the similarity between the announcing and the non-announcing firm in terms of size. Based on the empirical findings, we fit a distribution and model spillover effects and underlying operational losses to assess respective risk measures by means of a simulation analysis. The results show that spillover risk can be considerable for non-announcing firms as well as from a portfolio view, which has important risk management implications.  相似文献

This study examines joint decisions regarding risky asset allocation and consumption rate for a representative agent in the presence of background risk and insurance markets. Contrary to the conclusion of the “mutual fund separation theorem”, we show that the optimal risky asset mix will reflect an agent’s risk attitude as long as background risk is not independent of investment risk. This result can, however, be used to solve the “riskyasset allocation puzzle”. We also unveil that optimal insurance to shift background risk is determined through establishing a hedging portfolio against investment risk and is an arrangement maintaining the balance between growth and volatility of expected consumption. Because the optimal insurance we obtain generally leads to a smoother consumption path, it may plausibly explain the “equity premium puzzle” in the financial literature.  相似文献

We investigate the product innovation, green R&D investments and the emission tax policy in an oligopoly market with network externality. It is shown that an appropriate tax policy should be deployed to effectively control pollution and motivate innovation. At the early stage of the market, the emission tax should gradually reduce to motivate firms to achieve optimal investments. Later at the mature stage, the emission tax policy should carefully consider both the market competition and green technology levels.  相似文献

Numerous researchers have applied the martingale approach for models driven by Lévy processes to study optimal investment problems. The aim of this paper is to apply the martingale approach to obtain a closed form solution for the optimal investment, consumption and insurance strategies of an individual in the presence of an insurable risk when the insurable risk and risky asset returns are described by Lévy processes and the utility is a constant absolute risk aversion (CARA). The model developed in this paper can potentially be applied to absorb large insurable losses in the absence of insurance protection and to examine the level of diminishing current utility and consumption.  相似文献

In this paper, we apply the martingale approach to investigate the optimal investment and risk control problem for an insurer in an incomplete market. The claim risk of per policy is characterized by a compound Poisson process with drift, and the insurer can be invested in multiple risky assets whose price processes are described by the geometric Brownian motions model. By ‘complete’ the incomplete market, closed-form solutions to the problems of mean–variance criterion and expected exponential utility maximization are obtained. The internal‐rating‐based Basel II approach increases the need for the development of more realistic default probability models. In this paper, we follow the approach taken in McNeil A and Wendin J 7 (J. Empirical Finance 2007) by constructing generalized linear mixed models for estimating default probabilities from annual data on companies with different credit ratings. The models considered, in contrast to McNeil A and Wendin J 7 (J. Empirical Finance 2007), allow parsimonious parametric models to capture simultaneously dependencies of the default probabilities on time and credit ratings. Macro‐economic variables can also be included. Estimation of all model parameters are facilitated with a Bayesian approach using Markov chain Monte Carlo methods. Special emphasis is given to the investigation of predictive capabilities of the models considered. In particular, predictable model specifications are used. The empirical study using default data from Standard and Poor's gives evidence that the correlation between credit ratings further apart decreases and is higher than the one induced by the autoregressive time dynamics. Higher education faces challenges in retaining students who require a command of numeracy in their chosen field of study. This study applies an innovative combination of relative risk and social network analysis to enrolment data of a single cohort of commencing students from an Australian regional university. Relative risk, often used in epidemiology studies, is used to strategically investigate whether first year mathematics subjects at the university demonstrated a higher risk of attrition when compared to other subjects offered in the first year of study. The network analysis is used to illustrate the connections of those mathematics subjects, identifying service subjects through their multiple connections. The analysis revealed that attrition rates for eight of the nine subjects were within acceptable limits, and this included identified service subjects. The exception highlighted the issue of mathematics competencies in this cohort. This combined analytical technique is proposed as appropriate for use when investigating attrition and retention at faculty and institutional levels, including the determination of levels of intervention and support for any subject.  相似文献

Using Fourier inversion transform, P.D.E. and Feynman-Kac formula, the closedform solution for price on European call option is given in a double exponential jump-diffusion model with two different market structure risks that there exist CIR stochastic volatility of stock return and Vasicek or CIR stochastic interest rate in the market. In the end, the result of the model in the paper is compared with those in other models, including BS model with numerical experiment. These results show that the double exponential jump-diffusion model with CIR-market structure risks is suitable for modelling the real-market changes and very useful.  相似文献

A change in the corporate tax level can have a significant impact on rate making and capital structure for insurance companies. The purpose of this paper is to study this effect on competitive equity-premium combinations for different asset and liability models while retaining a fixed safety level. This is a crucial consideration as a change in the tax rate leads, in general, to a different risk of insolvency. Hence, fixing the safety level serves to isolate the effect of taxes without shifting the insurer’s risk situation whenever taxes are varied. The model framework includes stochastic assets as well as stochastic claims costs. We further compare the results for liability models with and without a jump component. Insurance rate making is conducted using option pricing theory.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to analyze the impact of management’s strategic choice of asset and liability composition in life insurance on shortfall risk and the shareholders’ fair risk charge. In contrast to previous work, we focus on the effectiveness of management decisions regarding the product mix and the riskiness of the asset side under different surplus appropriation schemes. We propose a model setting that comprises temporary life annuities and endowment insurance contracts. Our numerical results show that the effectiveness of management decisions in regard to risk reduction strongly depends on the surplus appropriation scheme offered to the customer and their impact on guaranteed benefit payments, which thus presents an important control variable for the insurer.  相似文献
