Bilayer composites that can show magneto-birefringence effect were fabricated based on the product effects of magnetostriction and stress-birefringence. Large magneto-optical responses were obtained under a magnetic field lower than 700 Oe at room temperature for the bilayers. The magneto-optical retardation was observed to decrease along the direction vertical to the interface, suggesting a non-uniform stress distribution along the thickness direction in the elasto-optical layer. Local action principle or Saint-Venant’s principle was taken into account in analysis of the interlayer elastic coupling and the magneto-birefringence effect. The theory that was consistent with experiments was obtained.  相似文献

The magnetic properties of CaF2/Co/CaF2(110)/Si(001) heterostructures fabricated by molecular-beam epitaxy and having a corrugated CaF2 buffer surface were studied. The optical and magneto-optical properties of these structures reflect the C 2v symmetry of the corrugated structure surface. The studies of hysteresis loops using the longitudinal and transverse magneto-optical Kerr effects under oblique light incidence and of magneto-optical phenomena under near-normal light incidence demonstrate that the corrugated structure surface leads to optical and magneto-optical anisotropies. The magnetization of such structures occurs via coherent magnetization rotation over a wide magnetic-field range. The magnetic anisotropy of these structures is described using a Gaussian distribution of easy axes of magnetization in cobalt granules about the direction parallel to the groove direction. The asymmetry of hysteresis loops of the rotation of the plane of polarization detected under oblique and normal light incidence is shown to be related to the contributions to the effective film permittivity that are quadratic in the magnetic moment.  相似文献

The time dependence of the exchange anisotropy was studied in Co/NiO bilayers. In order to only observe the relaxation phenomena inside the antiferromagnetic (AF) layer and to eliminate the dynamic behaviour inside the ferromagnetic (F) layer, we have developed an experimental method where a small a.c. magnetic field is applied perpendicular to the main anisotropy axis. All data are obtained by magneto-optical (m.o.) experiments. We observe a logarithmic time dependence of Hud, the exchange unidirectional anisotropy. We prove that the key parameter for the rate of relaxation is the anisotropy of the AF layer which depends strongly of the preparation method. We use the random field model as proposed by Malozemoff and suppose a breakdown of the AF interface into regular domains of size close to the crystallite size (10 nm width). If we further develop a Fulcomer and Charap relaxation model, we can propose from the distribution of relaxation times an analysis in terms of a spread of AF anisotropy energies. High magnetic pulsed field experiments (55 T) complete the experimental study and the results are analysed assuming that the Zeeman energy balances the anisotropy energy of the AF domains and switches them into the opposite direction.  相似文献

A theory of anisotropic optical local-field effects caused by resonantly polarizable small particles in multilayer polarizable media is developed. Considered is the model of a rectangular lattice of ellipsoidal nanoparticles with taking account of “image forces” at an interface in a layered medium. The lattice sums for anisotropic dipolar interactions are found using the Green’s function method in the quasi-point dipole approximation, and the effective polarizabilities of particles in a layer located near an interface are calculated self-consistently. The manifestation of an anisotropic local field of nanoparticles in optical radiation and propagation of evanescent waves responsible for optical near-field effects is investigated. Applications of the obtained results in the polar magneto-optical Kerr effect and reflectance anisotropy spectroscopy in propagating the polarized light along the normal to layers are considered. The resonant features in the spectra due to enhancement of the optical effects under excitation of surface (local) plasmons in nanoparticles of a noble metal are studied.  相似文献

We report on the optical anisotropy of a pentacene film on a rubbed (poly)vinylalcohol (PVA) layer related to the electrical performances of the pentacene organic field effect transistors (OFETs) depending on the direction of a current flow. The optical anisotropies of the PVA films are negligible with respect to whether or not rubbing process. In the pentacene OFET on the rubbed PVA layer, however, the optical anisotropy is observed and the anisotropy of the electrical performances directly corresponds to the optical anisotropy of the pentacene thin-film on the rubbed PVA layer.  相似文献

The effect of dislocations on the elementary acts of the magnetization reversal in the epitaxial heterostructure NiFe/NiO/MgO(001) has been studied using the magneto-optical indicator film technique. It has been found that the edge dislocations grouped along the 〈110〉 slip planes lead to the formation of quasi-one-dimensional domains in the permalloy film with the induced uniaxial anisotropy oriented along these planes the direction of which differs by 90° from that of the uniaxial anisotropy in the dislocation-free part of the heterostructure. The micromechanism of the observed effect has been discussed taking into account the effect of dislocations on the orientation of spins in the antiferromagnet and their exchange interaction with the spins of the ferromagnet on the interphase plane.  相似文献

The effect of target rotation rate on the magneto-optical properties and induced magnetic anisotropy of pulse laser deposition grown Bi:YIG garnets has been investigated. The rotation rate dependence of magnetic properties of thin films has been studied using magneto-optical Faraday rotation combined with magneto-optical Kerr measurement setup. Our results show that decreasing the target rotation rate can also increase the polar coercive field and hence magnetic anisotropy. Also the spectral answer of samples show the capability of use of them in one off optical ranges such as visible, near infrared and far infrared regions.  相似文献

The irradiation effect of 1 MeV C+ on the interface and magnetic anisotropy of epitaxial Cu/Ni system with a perpendicular magnetic anisotropy was investigated by using magneto-optical Kerr effects, grazing incident diffraction and X-ray reflectivity. The magnetic easy-axis was altered from the direction along the surface normal to in-plane and the strain in the Ni layer was relaxed after ion irradiation. Though the interface between the top Cu layer and the Ni layer becomes rough, the contrast of electron densities of Cu and Ni layer increases and the grain-growth occurs during ion irradiation. These phenomena arise from thermo-chemical driving force, i.e. heat of formation, which may be a crucial factor in determining the interface shape in the case of indirect energy transfer mechanism. Therefore, the change of the magnetic anisotropy of the Ni/Cu system after ion irradiation is not due to the formation of the intermixed layer at the interface. The ion irradiation effects on the grain-growth and enhancement of the electronic contrast between Ni and Cu are explained by the interfacial atomic movement caused by thermo-chemical driving force.  相似文献

The Mie problem with modified boundary conditions that take into account the influence of a thin surface layer on the scattering of an electromagnetic wave by a spherical particle is considered. Analytical equations are derived for the partial amplitudes of scattered waves and forced oscillations. The results of magneto-optical investigations into the Γ2–Γ4 spin reorientation in an Sm0.6Tb0.2Tm0.2FeO3 orthoferrite single crystal are reported. The magneto-optical parameters are determined taking into account the dichroism. The orientation of the antiferromagnetic vector in the canted phase is investigated as a function of the magnetic field and temperature. The magnetic anisotropy field strengths are determined by the processing of the results. The orientation contribution to the birefringence is estimated.  相似文献

The optical and magneto-optical second harmonic reflectivity response of Au/Co/Au/Cu multilayers grown on vicinal Si (111) substrates has been studied. These azimuthal optical non-linear experiments check the uniaxial character of the crystallinity of the Au buffer layer and the magnetic behavior of the ultrathin Co films in the metallic multilayer. They clearly show the strong dependence of the growth parameters and the misorientation of the vicinal surface on the SHG reflectivity signals. This uniaxial behavior is also correlated to linear MOKE experiments on the magnetic anisotropy with an easy magnetization axis parallel to the step edges. The longitudinal generalized magneto-optical ellipsometry(GME) method is extended to the measurement of threelayer ultrathin magnetic films. In this work, the theory of the reflection matrix is introduced into the GME measurement to obtain the reflective matrix parameters of ultrathin multilayer magnetic films with different thicknesses. After that, a spectroscopic ellipsometry is used to determine the optical parameter and the thickness of every layer of these samples, then the magneto-optical coupling constant of the multilayer magnetic ultrathin film can be obtained. After measurements of a series of ultrathin Fe films, the results show that the magneto-optical coupling constant Q is independent of the thickness of the magnetic film. The magneto-optical Kerr rotations and ellipticity are measured to confirm the validity of this experiment. Combined with the optical constants and the Q constant, the Kerr rotations and ellipticity are calculated in theory. The results show that the theoretical curve fits very well with the experimental data.  相似文献

Precession of magnetization induced by pulsed optical excitation is observed in a ferromagnetic semiconductor (Ga,Mn)As by time-resolved magneto-optical measurements. It appears as complicated oscillations of a polarization plane of linearly polarized probe pulses, but is reproduced by gyromagnetic theory incorporating an impulsive change in an effective magnetic field due to a change in the magnetic anisotropy. The shape of the impulse suggests a significant nonthermal contribution of photogenerated carriers to the change in anisotropy through spin-orbit interaction.  相似文献

An in-plane perpendicular magnetic coupling between Ni80Fe20 and Co has been found in NiFe/NiO/Co trilayers for a NiO thickness ranging from 4 to 25 nm by magneto-optical Kerr effect and x-ray magnetic circular dichroism measurements. In the easy magnetization direction of the Co layer, the Co coercive field H(C) increases when the thickness of the NiO layer t(NiO) increases. Because of the coupling, H(C) is always larger than for NiO/Co bilayers with the same thicknesses. The saturation field of the NiFe layer H(S) decreases when t(NiO) increases, indicating a weakening of the coupling. Numerical simulations show that the presence of interface roughness combined with a small value of the NiO anisotropy can explain the observed 90 degrees coupling.  相似文献

Real-time magneto-optical indicator film images reveal distinct asymmetry in the motion of a single domain wall in a wedged-NiFe/uniform-FeMn bilayer due to the nucleation and behavior of an exchange spring in the antiferromagnetic layer. Magnetization reversal from the ground state begins at the thick end of the wedge where the exchange anisotropy field (HE) is minimal and the magnetostatic field (HMS) is maximal, whereas reversal into the ground state begins from the thin end where HE is maximal and HMS is minimal.  相似文献

Magnetostrictive FeSiBC amorphous thin films based on the METGLAS® 2605SC composition have been produced by RF magnetron sputtering. The magnetic properties were investigated using the magneto-optical Kerr effect, with both point hysteresis measurements and domain imaging. Significant in-plane anisotropy is observed in the as-grown samples, which was attributed to the residual field from the magnetron sputter source. The effects of various treatments on the samples were investigated, including the use of forming fields, stress, and thermal processing. The deliberate introduction of stress into these materials is found to allow excellent control of both the direction and magnitude of magnetic anisotropy, and can also be used as a novel method for the absolute measurement of magnetostriction. The treatments are evaluated for their potential to control anisotropy in magnetostrictive device applications.  相似文献

The optical and magneto-optical properties of multilayered film samples of the Fe/Cu system prepared by high-frequency sputtering on an Si(100) substrate are studied by ellipsometry and by measuring the equatorial Kerr effect (the δ p effect) in the spectral range 0.25–7 μm. The optical characteristics, the plasma frequency ω p and the relaxation frequency γ 0 of the conduction electrons, and the δ p effect are found as functions of the modulation period D=12.5–100 Å. Anomalous behavior of the optical and magneto-optical characteristics is discovered in short-period Fe/Cu structures. The results are discussed within a phenomenological theory of optical and magneto-optical properties for layered structures. Several factors, such as the indirect exchange interaction between the iron layers, the presence of a transition layer on the internal boundaries, the possible “magnetizing” of copper, and the formation of an fcc iron phase in the thin layers, are taken into account in the analysis of the experimental data. We investigate in detail the optical anisotropy of absorption of linearly polarized light in InAs/GaSb quantum wells grown on GaSb along the [001] direction, which can be used as an active region of different laser structures. The energy level positions, the wave functions, the optical matrix elements, and the absorption coefficients are calculated using the eight-band k · p model and the Burt-Foreman envelope function theory. In these calculations, the Schr?dinger and Poisson equations are solved self-consistently taking the lattice-mismatched strain into account. We find that a realistic Hamiltonian, which has the C 2v symmetry, results in considerable anisotropy of optical matrix elements for different directions of light polarization and different directions of the initial-state in-plane wave vector, including low-symmetry directions. We trace how the optical matrix elements and absorption are modified when spin-orbit interaction and important symmetry breaking mechanisms are taken into account (structural inversion asymmetry, bulk inversion asymmetry, and interface Hamiltonian). These mechanisms result in an almost 100% anisotropy of the absorption coefficients as the light polarization vector rotates in the plane of the structure and in a plane normal to the interfaces.  相似文献

The parameters of the transition layer in exchange-biased film structures are necessary agents to understand the mechanism of formation of unidirectional anisotropy. The layer thickness in NiFe/DyCo films has been determined by comparison of signals of the polar magneto-optical Kerr effect from a reference DyCo film and a hard magnetic layer of the exchange-biased structure. The layer thickness obtained is one order of magnitude larger than that characteristic of ferromagnet-antiferromagnet bilayer films. The mechanism of magnetization reversal of the structure under study has been explained within the model suggesting the formation of 180° boundaries in the interface.  相似文献
