A new approximation for the elastic scattering transition matrix is suggested. This approximation satisfies the unitarity condition. A modified Born series is introduced which has this unitarized Born approximation as the leading term. The series is applied to the solvable case of scattering by a separable potential and is found to converge in a wider region of energies than that of the conventional Born series.  相似文献

The cross-sections for the elastic scattering of electrons by hydrogen atoms in the presence of a laser field have been calculated in the Glauber and the Born approximations. The Born approximation has been found to underestimate the cross-sections and the increase of the intensity of the electromagnetic field is found to lower the cross sections.  相似文献

The Glauber approximation in the laser-assisted inelastic collisions is derived in detail. The scattering S-matrix elements are successfully reduced so that the analytical expressions for S-matrix elements are obtained. An expansion procedure due to Magnus is applied to the case of potential scattering. This technique, which is superior to the usual Born-Dyson expansion in that it preserves unitarity at each state, leads in first approximation to an expression for the scattering amplitude which contains as special cases the eikonal approximation and also the second Born approximation. In particular the first Magnus approximation provides a basis for the ad hoc addition of the real part of the second Born contribution to the eikonal scattering amplitude as was considered by Byron et al.  相似文献

It has recently been demonstrated that the Born approximation for predicting the scattering response of flaws can be improved through the use of simple modifications called the "doubly distorted Born approximation". In this paper the doubly distorted Born approximation itself is modified with phase and amplitude corrections that further improve the Born scattering results for isotropic elastic media. The reliability of this new modification of the Born approximation has been evaluated by comparison with the exact solution for spherical inclusions obtained with the method of separation of variables. Unlike the ordinary Born approximation which works well only for very weak scattering inclusions, our modification of the doubly distorted Born approximation gives improved scattering results for both weak and strong scattering inclusions.  相似文献

A massless field propagating on spherically symmetric black hole metrics such as the Schwarzschild, Reissner–Nordström and Reissner–Nordström–de Sitter backgrounds is considered. In particular, explicit formulae in terms of transcendental functions for the scattering of massless scalar particles off black holes are derived within a Born approximation. It is shown that the conditions on the existence of the Born integral forbid a straightforward extraction of the quasi normal modes using the Born approximation for the scattering amplitude. Such a method has been used in literature. We suggest a novel, well defined method, to extract the large imaginary part of quasinormal modes via the Coulomb-like phase shift. Furthermore, we compare the numerically evaluated exact scattering amplitude with the Born one to find that the approximation is not very useful for the scattering of massless scalar, electromagnetic as well as gravitational waves from black holes.  相似文献

Elastic and inelastic quantal scattering is described by a theory in which the contribution of a range of impact parameters to the scattering amplitude is determined by a phase integral (“eikonal”) which is integrated along a real curved “quantal” trajectory. This amplitude reduces to the Glauber expression in the high-energy, forward-angle limit, and to the usual semiclassical amplitude in the classical limit. The formulation can be applied to the study of heavy-ion scattering. The quantal trajectories are investigated analytically for the case of Coulomb scattering. A numerical analysis of elastic 16O16O scattering is carried out. The results show appreciable improvement as compared with the Glauber approximation.  相似文献

The calculation of the scattering amplitude is reduced to the problem of solving a set of classical Hamilton-Jacobi equations. This allows one to incorporate classical intuition into approximations at a fundamental level. The result is actually an iterative expansion for the scattering amplitude which is expected to be convergent in the high-energy limit. The first term in the expansion is shown to be the Glauber approximation, which is an approximation used extensively in nuclear as well as atomic and particle physics.  相似文献

An eikonal expansion of the potential scattering T matrix is evaluated, without approximation, through third order in the inverse momentum. Based on the results, their correspondence with the WKB approximation and a new statement of the unitarity constraint, we propose a sequence of four approximations to the exact impact parameter (Fourier-Bessel) representation of the scattering matrix. The sequence consists of the Glauber approximation and three systematic corrections to the Glauber approximation. The corrections are analytic functions of the impact parameter for Yukawa and Gaussian potentials; they vanish for a Coulomb potential.The sequence of eikonal amplitudes is convergent at high energy and is clearly established for small momentum transfer. Validity for all momentum transfer is conjectured based on systematic cancellation, explicitly verified through third order in the expansion, of momentum transfer dependence in the eikonal impact parameter representation. Such cancellation is shown to occur in the explicit construction of the eikonal expansion of the second Born amplitude for a Yukawa potential.Numerical tests of the sequence of eikonal amplitudes show systematic increase of the angular range of validity by comparison with partial wave results for continuous potentials; the theory is not convergent for discontinuous potentials.The WKB phase shift formula is shown to produce a systematic connection with eikonal expansion results. From this we deduce a generating function for the eikonal phase corrections of arbitrary order and also conjecture a sum of the eikonal expansion valid in the limit of high energy and arbitrary potential strength.  相似文献

Elastic electron-hydrogen scattering at medium and high energies has been analysed in eikonal-Born series and modified Glauber approach forE i ≥ 50 eV. We have used closed form expressions for evaluating the second Born term in the fixed scatterer approximation and for higher order terms of Glauber-eikonal series. The exchange effect has also been included via Glauber-Bonham-Ochkur type procedure. The fixed scatterer approximation calculations are compared with results obtained using other approximations for the second Born term available in the literature. The high-energy Glauber approximation is used to derive the formula for scattering amplitude for ionization of helium atom by electron impact. The scattering amplitude is expressed as a one dimensional integral involving MeijerG-functions. This may further be expressed in a closed form as simple sums of Meijer functions by writing down the series expansion for Bessel and Meijer functions. In this paper, the basis of the Glauber theory is changed from the schrodinger equation to a relativistic equation, which is then solved using eikonal approximation to investigate the high energy behavior of the scattering amplitude and its relationship with phenomenological nuclear forces. When deriving the Fourier diffraction theorem based on the first-order Born approximation,the difference between wave number of the scattering object and that of the surrounding medium is ignored,causing substantial errors in sound scattering prediction.This paper modifies the Born approximation by taking into account the amplitude and phase changes between the scattering object and the water due to the wave number difference.By changing the radius and center position of the sampling circle in the Fourier domain,accuracy of the predicted sound scattering is improved.With the modified Born approximation,the computed far-field directional pattern of the scattered sound from a circular cylinder is in good agreement with the rigorous solution.Numerical calculations for several objects with different shapes are used to show applicability and effectiveness of the proposed method.  相似文献

The virtual excitations in the elastic nucleus-nucleus scattering at high energies being taken into the account, a symmetrization of the Glauber amplitude is achieved in the framework of the rigid nucleus approximation. We show the equivalence of semi-classical solutions to optical model coupled-channel equations derived from Watson's form of the nucleus-nucleus multiple-scattering series to the Glauber multiple-scattering series. A second-order solution to the semi-classical coupled-channel elastic amplitude is shown to be nearly equivalent to a second-order optical-phase-shift approximation to the Glauber amplitude if the densities of all nuclear excited states are approximated by the ground-state density. Using the Jastrow method to model the two-body density we find an average excited-state density to be of negligible importance in the double-scattering region of alpha-alpha scattering.  相似文献

The Born approximation has been shown by Wolf to be particularly convenient for formulating inverse scattering problems. The Rytov approximation is known to be more widely applicable than the Born approximation. We introduce an improvement that further increases the range of validity of the Rytov approximation. It transpires that our extension of the Rytov approximation is as convenient for inverse scattering as the Born approximation.  相似文献
