The experimental excitation of intense collisionless shock waves (M 5) with subsequent plasma compression by the magnetic field of a shock coil is described. A magnetic plug > 20 kOe is produced in 100 × 10–9 sec by a current generator, a long line with 250-kV water insulation and a characteristic impedance of l At an initial deuterium-plasma density of 2 × 1014 cm–3, shock waves with a front width of 20c/03and a velocity of 5 × 107 cm/sec are recorded. The ion energy after the accumulation, determined from the neutron yield, turns out to be 2 ke V. Axial shock waves excited by the plasma flow beneath the shock coil are observed.Translated from Zhurnal Prikladnoi Mekhaniki i Teknicheskoi Fiziki, Vol. 11, No. 2, pp. 28–38, March–April, 1970.The authors thank G. Many data are available on the drag Cx and the distribution of the static pressure over the surface of a sphere [1, 2]. However, there are virtually no data on pulsations of the pressure over the surface of a sphere. In the present paper, the results are given of an investigation of the total and spectral levels of the pressure pulsations at different points of the surface of a sphere at M 0.5–1.0 and Re (1.7–2.7)·.106. It was found that the strongest pressure pulsations occur on the side in the region of the angle 90°. In this region at M 0.6–0.8 the relative total level o/q where q is the velocity head in the oncoming stream, reaches values 0.18–0.22. It was established that at M = 0.7–0.9 narrow-band maxima occur in the spectra of the pressure pulsations at frequencies Sh fD/V = 0.2–0.3. Data are also presented on the pulsations of the base pressure behind a spherical segment with short cylindrical and conical trailing edges.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 5, pp. 164–168, September–October, 1981.

The effects of finite measuring volume length on laser velocimetry measurements of turbulent boundary layers were studied. Four different effective measuring volume lengths, ranging in spanwise extent from 7 to 44 viscous units, were used in a low Reynolds number (Re=1440) turbulent boundary layer with high data density. Reynolds shear stress profiles in the near-wall region show that u v strongly depends on the measuring volume length; at a given y-position, u v decreases with increasing measuring volume length. This dependence was attributed to simultaneous validations on the U and V channels of Doppler bursts coming from different particles within the measuring volume. Moments of the streamwise velocity showed a slight dependence on measuring volume length, indicating that spatial averaging effects well known for hot-films and hot-wires can occur in laser velocimetry measurements when the data density is high.List of symbols time-averaged quantity - u wall friction velocity, ( w /)1/2 - v kinematic viscosity - d p pinhole diameter - l eff spanwise extent of LDV measuring volume viewed by photomultiplier - l + non-dimensional length of measuring volume, l eff u /v - y + non-dimensional coordinate in spanwise direction, y u /v - z + non-dimensional coordinate in spanwise direction, z u /v - U + non-dimensional mean velocity, /u - u instantaneous streamwise velocity fluctuation, U 〈U - v instantaneous normal velocity fluctuation, V–V - u RMS streamwise velocity fluctuation, u 21/2 - v RMS normal velocity fluctuation, v 21/2 - Re Reynolds number based on momentum thickness, U 0/v - R uv cross-correlation coefficient, u v/u v - R12(0, 0, z) two point correlation between u and v with z-separation, <u(0, 0, 0) v (0, 0, z)>/<u(0, 0, 0) v (0, 0, 0)> - N rate at which bursts are validated by counter processor - T Taylor time microscale, u (dv/dt2)–1/2 相似文献

Let D R N be a cone with vertex at the origin i.e., D = (0, )x where S N–1 and x D if and only if x = (r, ) with r=¦x¦, . We consider the initial boundary value problem: u t = u+u p in D×(0, T), u=0 on Dx(0, T) with u(x, 0)=u 0(x) 0. Let 1 denote the smallest Dirichlet eigenvalue for the Laplace-Beltrami operator on and let + denote the positive root of (+N–2) = 1. Let p * = 1 + 2/(N + +). Summary The dielectric properties of the composite system polyurethane-sodium chloride have been measured at frequencies between 10–4 Hz and 3 · 105 Hz in the temperature range from –150 °C up to +90 dgC. Three dielectric loss mechanisms have been found; they are indicated by 1, 2 and. The activation energy of the 1-transition is 35 kcal/mole, that of the-transition 6.7 kcal/mole. The 2-loss peak was only observed at frequencies of 103 Hz and higher, forming one broad peak with the 1-loss peak at lower frequencies. In the composite materials, the- and 2-loss peaks measured at fixed frequencies were found at the same temperature. The 2-loss peak, however, was shifted to a lower temperature, due to the sodium chloride filler. Comparison of experimental data of and tan with theoretical predictions concerning the dielectric properties of composite systems showed only partial agreement. The difference mainly consisted in. the temperature shift in the tan-peak of the 1-transition.

This paper studies Lp-estimates for solutions of the nonlinear, spatially homogeneous Boltzmann equation. The molecular forces considered include inverse kth-power forces with k > 5 and angular cut-off.The main conclusions are the following. Let f be the unique solution of the Boltzmann equation with f(v,t)(1 + ¦v2¦)(s 1 + /p)/2 L1, when the initial value f 0 satisfies f 0(v) 0, f 0(v) (1 + ¦v¦2)(s 1 + /p)/2 L1, for some s1 2 + /p, and f 0(v) (1 + ¦v¦2)s/2 Lp. If s 2/p and 1 < p < , then f(v, t)(1 + ¦v¦2)(s s 1)/2 Lp, t > 0. If s >2 and 3/(1+ ) < p < , thenf(v,t) (1 + ¦v¦2)(s(s 1 + 3/p))/2 Lp, t > 0. If s >2 + 2C0/C1 and 3/(l + ) < p < , then f(v,t)(1 + ¦v¦2)s/2 Lp, t > 0. Here 1/p + 1/p = 1, x y = min (x, y), and C0, C1, 0 < 1, are positive constants related to the molecular forces under consideration; = (k – 5)/ (k – 1) for kth-power forces.Some weaker conclusions follow when 1 < p 3/ (1 + ).In the proofs some previously known L-estimates are extended. The results for Lp, 1 < p < , are based on these L-estimates coupled with nonlinear interpolation.

Linear and nonlinear viscoelastic properties were examined for a 50 wt% suspension of spherical silica particles (with radius of 40 nm) in a viscous medium, 2.27/1 (wt/wt) ethylene glycol/glycerol mixture. The effective volume fraction of the particles evaluated from zero-shear viscosities of the suspension and medium was 0.53. At a quiescent state the particles had a liquid-like, isotropic spatial distribution in the medium. Dynamic moduli G* obtained for small oscillatory strain (in the linear viscoelastic regime) exhibited a relaxation process that reflected the equilibrium Brownian motion of those particles. In the stress relaxation experiments, the linear relaxation modulus G(t) was obtained for small step strain (0.2) while the nonlinear relaxation modulus G(t, ) characterizing strong stress damping behavior was obtained for large (>0.2). G(t, ) obeyed the time-strain separability at long time scales, and the damping function h() (–G(t, )/G(t)) was determined. Steady flow measurements revealed shear-thinning of the steady state viscosity () for small shear rates (< –1; = linear viscoelastic relaxation time) and shear-thickening for larger (>–1). Corresponding changes were observed also for the viscosity growth and decay functions on start up and cessation of flow, + (t, ) and (t, ). In the shear-thinning regime, the and dependence of +(t,) and (t,) as well as the dependence of () were well described by a BKZ-type constitutive equation using the G(t) and h() data. On the other hand, this equation completely failed in describing the behavior in the shear-thickening regime. These applicabilities of the BKZ equation were utilized to discuss the shearthinning and shear-thickening mechanisms in relation to shear effects on the structure (spatial distribution) and motion of the suspended particles.Dedicated to the memory of Prof. Dale S. Equations are derived for the gasdynamics of a dense plasma confined by a multiple-mirror magnetic field. The limiting cases of large and small mean free paths have been analyzed earlier: 0 and k, where is the length of an individual mirror machine, 0 is the size of the mirror, and k is the mirror ratio. The present work is devoted to a study of the intermediate range of mean free paths 0 k. It is shown that in this region of the parameters the process of expansion of the plasma has a diffusional nature, and the coefficients of transfer of the plasma along the magnetic field are calculated.Translated from Zhurnal Prikladnoi Mekhaniki i Tekhnicheskoi Fiziki, No. 6, pp. 14–19, November–December, 1974.The authors thank D. Stokes flow in a deformable medium is considered in terms of an isotropic, linearly elastic solid matrix. The analysis is restricted to steady forms of the momentum equations and small deformation of the solid phase. Darcy's law can be used to determine the motion of the fluid phase; however, the determination of the Darcy's law permeability tensor represents part of the closure problem in which the position of the fluid-solid interface must be determined.Roman Letters A interfacial area of the- interface contained within the macroscopic system, m2 - A interfacial area of the- interface contained within the averaging volume, m2 - A e area of entrances and exits for the-phase contained within the macroscopic system, m2 - A * interfacial area of the- interface contained within a unit cell, m2 - A e * area of entrances and exits for the-phase contained within a unit cell, m2 - E Young's modulus for the-phase, N/m2 - e i unit base vectors (i = 1, 2, 3) - g gravity vector, m2/s - H height of elastic, porous bed, m - k unit base vector (=e 3) - characteristic length scale for the-phase, m - L characteristic length scale for volume-averaged quantities, m - n unit normal vector pointing from the-phase toward the-phase (n = -n ) - p pressure in the-phase, N/m2 - P p g·r, N/m2 - r 0 radius of the averaging volume, m - r position vector, m - t time, s - T total stress tensor in the-phase, N/m2 - T 0 hydrostatic stress tensor for the-phase, N/m2 - u displacement vector for the-phase, m - V averaging volume, m3 - V volume of the-phase contained within the averaging volume, m3 - v velocity vector for the-phase, m/s Greek Letters V /V, volume fraction of the-phase - mass density of the-phase, kg/m3 - shear coefficient of viscosity for the-phase, Nt/m2 - first Lamé coefficient for the-phase, N/m2 - second Lamé coefficient for the-phase, N/m2 - bulk coefficient of viscosity for the-phase, Nt/m2 - T T 0 , a deviatoric stress tensor for the-phase, N/m2 相似文献

A self-similar solution of the Navier-Stokes equations describing steady-state axisymmetric viscous incompressible fluid flow in a half-space is investigated. The motion is induced by sources or sinks distributed over a vertical axis with a constant density. The horizontal plane bounding the fluid is a free surface. It is found that in the presence of sources a solution of the above type exists and is unique for any value of the Reynolds numberR > 0, but in the case of sinks only on the interval –2 R < 0. The results of calculating the self-similar solutions are presented. The asymptotics of the solutions are found asR 0 andR .Novosibirsk. This paper presents a theoretical and numerical investigation of the natural convection boundary-layer along a vertical surface, which is embedded in a porous medium, when the surface heat flux varies as (1 +x 2)), where is a constant andx is the distance along the surface. It is shown that for > -1/2 the solution develops from a similarity solution which is valid for small values ofx to one which is valid for large values ofx. However, when -1/2 no similarity solutions exist for large values ofx and it is found that there are two cases to consider, namely < -1/2 and = -1/2. The molecular theory of Doi has been used as a framework to characterize the rheological behavior of polymeric liquid crystals at the low deformation rates for which it was derived, and an appropriate extension for high deformation rates is presented. The essential physics behind the Doi formulation has, however, been retained in its entirety. The resulting four-parameter equation enables prediction of the shearing behavior at low and high deformation rates, of the stress in extensional flows, of the isotropic-anisotropic phase transition and of the molecular orientation. Extensional data over nearly three decades of elongation rate (10–2–101) and shearing data over six decades of shear rate (10–2–104) have been correlated using this analysis. Experimental data are presented for both homogeneous and inhomogeneous shearing stress fields. For the latter, a 20-fold range of capillary tube diameters has been employed and no effects of system geometry or the inhomogeneity of the flow-field are observed. Such an independence of the rheological properties from these effects does not occur for low molecular weight liquid crystals and this is, perhaps, the first time this has been reported for polymeric lyotropic liquid crystals; the physical basis for this major difference is discussed briefly. Approximate methods for analyzing the vibrations of an Euler--Bernoulli beam resting on a nonlinear elastic foundation are discussed. The cases of primary resonance ( n ) and subharmonic resonance of order one-half ( 2 n ), where is the excitation frequency and n is the natural frequency of the nth mode of the beam, are investigated. Approximate solutions based on discretization via the Galerkin method are contrasted with direct application of the method of multiple scales to the governing partial-differential equation and boundary conditions. The amplitude and phase modulation equations show that single-mode discretization leads to erroneous qualitative as well as quantitative predictions. Regions of softening (hardening) behavior of the system, the spatial dependence of the response drift, and frequency-response curves are numerically evaluated and compared using both approaches.

An analysis is presented for the primary resonance of a clamped-hinged beam, which occurs when the frequency of excitation is near one of the natural frequencies,n . Three mode interaction (2 31 and 3 1 + 22) is considered and its influence on the response is studied. The case of two mode interaction (2 31) is also considered to compare it with the case of three mode interaction. The straight beam experiencing mid-plane stretching is governed by a nonlinear partial differential equation. By using Galerkin's method the governing equation is reduced to a system of nonautonomous ordinary differential equations. The method of multiple scales is applied to solve the system. Steady-state responses and their stability are examined. Results of numerical investigations show that there exists no significant difference between both modal interactions' influences on the responses.

A cold gas is injected from a slot into a free stream of hot gas. In a simple model this leads to a two-fluid free boundary problem with the jump relation |u-|2–|u+|2 = ( constant) on the free boundary {u=0}, where u is the stream function. We prove that for any (–1, ) there exists a unique solution (Q, u) where Q is the flux of the injected fluid. Various properties of the solution u and of the free boundary are established.

Diffusion in anisotropic porous media
An experimental system was constructed in order to measure the two distinct components of the effective diffusivity tensor in transversely isotropic, unconsolidated porous media. Measurements were made for porous media consisting of glass spheres, mica particles, and disks made from mylar sheets. Both the particle geometry and the void fraction of the porous media were determined experimentally, and theoretical calculations for the two components of the effective diffusivity tensor were carried out. The comparison between theory and experiment clearly indicates that the void fraction and particle geometry are insufficient to characterize the process of diffusion in anisotropic porous media. Summary The viscous properties of calcium carbonate filled polyethylene and polystyrene melts were examined. The relative vircosity r defined in the previous paper gave an asymtptotic value( r)l in the range of the shear stress below 105 dyne/cm2.( r)l of the calcium carbonate filled system was higher than that of the glass beads or glass balloons filled system at the same volume fraction of the filler. Maron-Pierce equation with 0 = 0.44 was able to approximate the( r)l — relationship. However, it was deduced here that the high value of( r)l of calcium carbonyl filled system was due to the apparent increase of and this increase was attributed to the fixed polymer layer formed on the powder particle. By assuming the particle as a sphere with a diameter of 2 µm, the thickness of the fixed polymer layer was estimated as about 0.17 µm. The yield stress estimated from the Casson's plots increased exponentially with.
