In this paper multivariate extensions of the Friedman and Page tests for the comparison of several treatments are introduced. Related unadjusted and adjusted treatment effect estimates for the multivariate response variable are also found and their properties discussed. The test statistics and estimates are analogous to the traditional univariate methods. In test constructions, the univariate ranks are replaced by multivariate spatial ranks (J. Nonparam. Statist. 5 (1995) 201). Asymptotic theory is developed to provide approximations for the limiting distributions of the test statistics and estimates. Limiting efficiencies of the tests and treatment effect estimates are found in the multivariate normal and t distribution cases. The tests are rotation invariant only, but affine invariant versions can be easily constructed. The theory is illustrated by an example.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is, in multivariate linear regression model (Part I) and GMANOVA model (Part II), to investigate the effect of nonnormality upon the nonnull distributions of some multivariate test statistics under normality. It is shown that whatever the underlying distributions, the difference of local powers up to order N−1 after either Bartlett’s type adjustment or Cornish-Fisher’s type size adjustment under nonnormality coincides with that in Anderson [An Introduction to Multivariate Statistical Analysis, 2nd ed. and 3rd ed., Wiley, New York, 1984, 2003] under normality. The derivation of asymptotic expansions is based on the differential operator associated with the multivariate linear regression model under general distributions. The performance of higher-order results in finite samples, including monotone Bartlett’s type adjustment and monotone Cornish-Fisher’s type size adjustment, is examined using simulation studies.  相似文献

In this paper we propose a new test for the multivariate two-sample problem. The test statistic is the difference of the sum of all the Euclidean interpoint distances between the random variables from the two different samples and one-half of the two corresponding sums of distances of the variables within the same sample. The asymptotic null distribution of the test statistic is derived using the projection method and shown to be the limit of the bootstrap distribution. A simulation study includes the comparison of univariate and multivariate normal distributions for location and dispersion alternatives. For normal location alternatives the new test is shown to have power similar to that of the t- and T2-Test.  相似文献

De Haan and Pereira (2006) [6] provided models for spatial extremes in the case of stationarity, which depend on just one parameter β>0 measuring tail dependence, and they proposed different estimators for this parameter. We supplement this framework by establishing local asymptotic normality (LAN) of a corresponding point process of exceedances above a high multivariate threshold. Standard arguments from LAN theory then provide the asymptotic minimum variance within the class of regular estimators of β. It turns out that the relative frequency of exceedances is a regular estimator sequence with asymptotic minimum variance, if the underlying observations follow a multivariate extreme value distribution or a multivariate generalized Pareto distribution.  相似文献

In this article, the problem of classifying a new observation vector into one of the two known groups Πi,i=1,2, distributed as multivariate normal with common covariance matrix is considered. The total number of observation vectors from the two groups is, however, less than the dimension of the observation vectors. A sample-squared distance between the two groups, using Moore-Penrose inverse, is introduced. A classification rule based on the minimum distance is proposed to classify an observation vector into two or several groups. An expression for the error of misclassification when there are only two groups is derived for large p and n=O(pδ),0<δ<1.  相似文献

A general class of optimal and distribution-free rank tests for the two-sample modal directions problem on (hyper-) spheres is proposed, along with an asymptotic distribution theory for such spherical rank tests. The asymptotic optimality of the spherical rank tests in terms of power-equivalence to the spherical likelihood ratio tests is studied, while the spherical Wilcoxon rank test, an important case for the class of spherical rank tests, is further investigated. A data set is reanalyzed and some errors made in previous studies are corrected. On the usual sphere, a lower bound on the asymptotic Pitman relative efficiency relative to Hotelling’s T2-type test is established, and a new distribution for which the spherical Wilcoxon rank test is optimal is also introduced.  相似文献

We construct a broad class of generalized Bayes minimax estimators of the mean of a multivariate normal distribution with covariance equal to σ2Ip, with σ2 unknown, and under the invariant loss δ(X)−θ2/σ2. Examples that illustrate the theory are given. Most notably it is shown that a hierarchical version of the multivariate Student-t prior yields a Bayes minimax estimate.  相似文献

A set of n-principal points of a distribution is defined as a set of n points that optimally represent the distribution in terms of mean squared distance. It provides an optimal n-point-approximation of the distribution. However, it is in general difficult to find a set of principal points of a multivariate distribution. Tarpey et al. [T. Tarpey, L. Li, B. Flury, Principal points and self-consistent points of elliptical distributions, Ann. Statist. 23 (1995) 103-112] established a theorem which states that any set of n-principal points of an elliptically symmetric distribution is in the linear subspace spanned by some principal eigenvectors of the covariance matrix. This theorem, called a “principal subspace theorem”, is a strong tool for the calculation of principal points. In practice, we often come across distributions consisting of several subgroups. Hence it is of interest to know whether the principal subspace theorem remains valid even under such complex distributions. In this paper, we define a multivariate location mixture model. A theorem is established that clarifies a linear subspace in which n-principal points exist.  相似文献

We consider the problem of setting bootstrap confidence regions for multivariate parameters based on data depth functions. We prove, under mild regularity conditions, that depth-based bootstrap confidence regions are second-order accurate in the sense that their coverage error is of order n−1, given a random sample of size n. The results hold in general for depth functions of types A and D, which cover as special cases the Tukey depth, the majority depth, and the simplicial depth. A simulation study is also provided to investigate empirically the bootstrap confidence regions constructed using these three depth functions.  相似文献

Let F be a distribution function in the maximal domain of attraction of the Gumbel distribution such that −log(1−F(x))=x1/θL(x) for a positive real number θ, called the Weibull tail index, and a slowly varying function L. It is well known that the estimators of θ have a very slow rate of convergence. We establish here a sharp optimality result in the minimax sense, that is when L is treated as an infinite dimensional nuisance parameter belonging to some functional class. We also establish the rate optimal asymptotic property of a data-driven choice of the sample fraction that is used for estimation.  相似文献

Ramachandran (1969) [9, Theorem 8] has shown that for any univariate infinitely divisible distribution and any positive real number α, an absolute moment of order α relative to the distribution exists (as a finite number) if and only if this is so for a certain truncated version of the corresponding Lévy measure. A generalized version of this result in the case of multivariate infinitely divisible distributions, involving the concept of g-moments, was given by Sato (1999) [6, Theorem 25.3]. We extend Ramachandran’s theorem to the multivariate case, keeping in mind the immediate requirements under appropriate assumptions of cumulant studies of the distributions referred to; the format of Sato’s theorem just referred to obviously varies from ours and seems to have a different agenda. Also, appealing to a further criterion based on the Lévy measure, we identify in a certain class of multivariate infinitely divisible distributions the distributions that are self-decomposable; this throws new light on structural aspects of certain multivariate distributions such as the multivariate generalized hyperbolic distributions studied by Barndorff-Nielsen (1977) [12] and others. Various points relevant to the study are also addressed through specific examples.  相似文献

The increment ratio (IR) statistic was first defined and studied in Surgailis et al. (2007) [19] for estimating the memory parameter either of a stationary or an increment stationary Gaussian process. Here three extensions are proposed in the case of stationary processes. First, a multidimensional central limit theorem is established for a vector composed by several IR statistics. Second, a goodness-of-fit χ2-type test can be deduced from this theorem. Finally, this theorem allows to construct adaptive versions of the estimator and the test which are studied in a general semiparametric frame. The adaptive estimator of the long-memory parameter is proved to follow an oracle property. Simulations attest to the interesting accuracies and robustness of the estimator and the test, even in the non Gaussian case.  相似文献

Measures of uncertainty in past and residual lifetime distributions have been proposed in the information-theoretic literature. Recently, Di Crescenzo and Longobardi (2006) introduced weighted differential entropy and its dynamic versions. These information-theoretic uncertainty measures are shift-dependent. In this paper, we study the weighted differential information measure for two-sided truncated random variables. This new measure is a generalization of recent dynamic weighted entropy measures. We study various properties of this measure, including its connection with weighted residual and past entropies, and we obtain its upper and lower bounds.  相似文献

We extend the notion of L2-B-discrepancy introduced in [E. Novak, H. Wo?niakowski, L2 discrepancy and multivariate integration, in: W.W.L. Chen, W.T. Gowers, H. Halberstam, W.M. Schmidt, and R.C. Vaughan (Eds.), Analytic Number Theory. Essays in Honour of Klaus Roth, Cambridge University Press, Cambridge, 2009, pp. 359-388] to what we shall call weighted geometric L2-discrepancy. This extension enables us to consider weights in order to moderate the importance of different groups of variables, as well as to consider volume measures different from the Lebesgue measure and classes of test sets different from measurable subsets of Euclidean spaces. We relate the weighted geometric L2-discrepancy to numerical integration defined over weighted reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces and settle in this way an open problem posed by Novak and Wo?niakowski.Furthermore, we prove an upper bound for the numerical integration error for cubature formulas that use admissible sample points. The set of admissible sample points may actually be a subset of the integration domain of measure zero. We illustrate that particularly in infinite-dimensional numerical integration it is crucial to distinguish between the whole integration domain and the set of those sample points that actually can be used by the algorithms.  相似文献

A test for the mean vector with fewer observations than the dimension   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this paper, we consider a test for the mean vector of independent and identically distributed multivariate normal random vectors where the dimension p is larger than or equal to the number of observations N. This test is invariant under scalar transformations of each component of the random vector. Theories and simulation results show that the proposed test is superior to other two tests available in the literature. Interest in such significance test for high-dimensional data is motivated by DNA microarrays. However, the methodology is valid for any application which involves high-dimensional data.  相似文献

Let Y be an n×p multivariate normal random matrix with general covariance ΣY. The general covariance ΣY of Y means that the collection of all np elements in Y has an arbitrary np×np covariance matrix. A set of general, succinct and verifiable necessary and sufficient conditions is established for matrix quadratic forms YWiY's with the symmetric Wi's to be an independent family of random matrices distributed as Wishart distributions. Moreover, a set of general necessary and sufficient conditions is obtained for matrix quadratic forms YWiY's to be an independent family of random matrices distributed as noncentral Wishart distributions. Some usual versions of Cochran's theorem are presented as the special cases of these results.  相似文献

A general notion of trimmed regions for empirical distributions in d-space is introduced. The regions are called weighted-mean trimmed regions. They are continuous in the data as well as in the trimming parameter. Further, these trimmed regions have many other attractive properties. In particular they are subadditive and monotone which makes it possible to construct multivariate measures of risk based on these regions. Special cases include the zonoid trimming and the ECH (expected convex hull) trimming. These regions can be exactly calculated for any dimension. Finally, the notion of weighted-mean trimmed regions extends to probability distributions in d-space, and a law of large numbers applies.  相似文献

We study multivariate integration in the worst case setting for weighted Korobov spaces of smooth periodic functions of d variables. We wish to reduce the initial error by a factor ε for functions from the unit ball of the weighted Korobov space. Tractability means that the minimal number of function samples needed to solve the problem is polynomial in ε−1 and d. Strong tractability means that we have only a polynomial dependence in ε−1. This problem has been recently studied for quasi-Monte Carlo quadrature rules and for quadrature rules with non-negative coefficients. In this paper we study arbitrary quadrature rules. We show that tractability and strong tractability in the worst case setting hold under the same assumptions on the weights of the Korobov space as for the restricted classes of quadrature rules. More precisely, let γj moderate the behavior of functions with respect to the jth variable in the weighted Korobov space. Then strong tractability holds iff ∑j=1 γj<∞, whereas tractability holds iff lim supd→∞ dj=1 γj/ln d<∞. We obtain necessary conditions on tractability and strong tractability by showing that multivariate integration for the weighted Korobov space is no easier than multivariate integration for the corresponding weighted Sobolev space of smooth functions with boundary conditions. For the weighted Sobolev space we apply general results from E. Novak and H. Woźniakowski (J. Complexity17 (2001), 388–441) concerning decomposable kernels.  相似文献

The so-called independent component (IC) model states that the observed p-vector X is generated via X=ΛZ+μ, where μ is a p-vector, Λ is a full-rank matrix, and the centered random vector Z has independent marginals. We consider the problem of testing the null hypothesis H0:μ=0 on the basis of i.i.d. observations X1,…,Xn generated by the symmetric version of the IC model above (for which all ICs have a symmetric distribution about the origin). In the spirit of [M. Hallin, D. Paindaveine, Optimal tests for multivariate location based on interdirections and pseudo-Mahalanobis ranks, Annals of Statistics, 30 (2002), 1103-1133], we develop nonparametric (signed-rank) tests, which are valid without any moment assumption and are, for adequately chosen scores, locally and asymptotically optimal (in the Le Cam sense) at given densities. Our tests are measurable with respect to the marginal signed ranks computed in the collection of null residuals , where is a suitable estimate of Λ. Provided that is affine-equivariant, the proposed tests, unlike the standard marginal signed-rank tests developed in [M.L. Puri, P.K. Sen, Nonparametric Methods in Multivariate Analysis, Wiley & Sons, New York, 1971] or any of their obvious generalizations, are affine-invariant. Local powers and asymptotic relative efficiencies (AREs) with respect to Hotelling’s T2 test are derived. Quite remarkably, when Gaussian scores are used, these AREs are always greater than or equal to one, with equality in the multinormal model only. Finite-sample efficiencies and robustness properties are investigated through a Monte Carlo study.  相似文献

Consider the model Y=m(X)+ε, where m(⋅)=med(Y|⋅) is unknown but smooth. It is often assumed that ε and X are independent. However, in practice this assumption is violated in many cases. In this paper we propose modeling the dependence between ε and X by means of a copula model, i.e. (ε,X)∼Cθ(Fε(⋅),FX(⋅)), where Cθ is a copula function depending on an unknown parameter θ, and Fε and FX are the marginals of ε and X. Since many parametric copula families contain the independent copula as a special case, the so-obtained regression model is more flexible than the ‘classical’ regression model. We estimate the parameter θ via a pseudo-likelihood method and prove the asymptotic normality of the estimator, based on delicate empirical process theory. We also study the estimation of the conditional distribution of Y given X. The procedure is illustrated by means of a simulation study, and the method is applied to data on food expenditures in households.  相似文献
