This work deals with positively curved compact Riemannian manifolds which are acted on by a closed Lie group of isometries whose principal orbits have codimension one and are isotropy irreducible homogeneous spaces. For such manifolds we can show that their universal covering manifold may be isometrically immersed as a hypersurface of revolution in an euclidean space.  相似文献

We construct smooth circle actions on symplectic manifolds with non-symplectic fixed point sets or cyclic isotropy sets. All such actions are not compatible with any symplectic form on the manifold in question. In order to cover the case of non-symplectic fixed point sets, we use two smooth 4-manifolds (one symplectic and one non-symplectic) which become diffeomorphic after taking the products with the 2-sphere. The second type of actions is obtained by constructing smooth circle actions on spheres with non-symplectic cyclic isotropy sets, which (by the equivariant connected sum construction) we carry over from the spheres on products of 2-spheres. Moreover, by using the mapping torus construction, we show that periodic diffeomorphisms (isotopic to symplectomorphisms) of symplectic manifolds can provide examples of smooth fixed point free circle actions on symplectic manifolds with non-symplectic cyclic isotropy sets.  相似文献

We consider a homogeneous fibration G/LG/K, with symmetric fiber and base, where G is a compact connected semisimple Lie group and L has maximal rank in G. We suppose the base space G/K is isotropy irreducible and the fiber K/L is simply connected. We investigate the existence of G-invariant Einstein metrics on G/L such that the natural projection onto G/K is a Riemannian submersion with totally geodesic fibers. These spaces are divided in two types: the fiber K/L is isotropy irreducible or is the product of two irreducible symmetric spaces. We classify all the G-invariant Einstein metrics with totally geodesic fibers for the first type. For the second type, we classify all these metrics when G is an exceptional Lie group. If G is a classical Lie group we classify all such metrics which are the orthogonal sum of the normal metrics on the fiber and on the base or such that the restriction to the fiber is also Einstein.  相似文献

The existence of a recurrent spinor field on a pseudo-Riemannian spin manifold (M,g) is closely related to the existence of a parallel 1-dimensional complex subbundle of the spinor bundle of (M,g). We characterize the following simply connected pseudo-Riemannian manifolds that admit these subbundles in terms of their holonomy algebras: Riemannian manifolds, Lorentzian manifolds, pseudo-Riemannian manifolds with irreducible holonomy algebras, and pseudo-Riemannian manifolds of neutral signature admitting two complementary parallel isotropic distributions.  相似文献

A generalized flag manifold is a homogeneous space of the form G/K, where K is the centralizer of a torus in a compact connected semisimple Lie group G. We classify all flag manifolds with four isotropy summands by the use of \mathfrakt{\mathfrak{t}}-roots. We present new G-invariant Einstein metrics by solving explicity the Einstein equation. We also examine the isometric problem for these Einstein metrics.  相似文献

We prove that the locus of Hilbert schemes of n points on a projective K 3 surface is dense in the moduli space of irreducible holomorphic symplectic manifolds of that deformation type. The analogous result for generalized Kummer manifolds is proven as well. Along the way we prove an integral constraint on the monodromy group of generalized Kummer manifolds.  相似文献

We prove that for exceptional Seifert manifolds all weakly reducible Heegaard splittings are reducible. This provides the missing case for the Main Theorem in (Moriah and Schultens, to appear). It follows that for all orientable Seifert fibered spaces which fiber over an orientable base space, irreducible Heegaard splittings are either horizontal or vertical.  相似文献

The study of maximal-primary irreducible ideals in a commutative graded connected Noetherian algebra over a field is in principle equivalent to the study of the corresponding quotient algebras. Such algebras are Poincaré duality algebras. A prototype for such an algebra is the cohomology with field coefficients of a closed oriented manifold. Topological constructions on closed manifolds often lead to algebraic constructions on Poincaré duality algebras and therefore also on maximal-primary irreducible ideals. It is the purpose of this note to examine several of these and develop some of their basic properties.  相似文献

A very important class of homogeneous Riemannian manifolds are the so-called normal homogeneous spaces, which have associated a canonical connection. In this study, we obtain geometrically the (connected component of the) group of affine transformations with respect to the canonical connection for a normal homogeneous space. The naturally reductive case is also treated. This completes the geometric calculation of the isometry group of naturally reductive spaces. In addition, we prove that for normal homogeneous spaces the set of fixed points of the full isotropy is a torus. As an application of our results it follows that the holonomy group of a homogeneous fibration is contained in the group of (canonically) affine transformations of the fibers; in particular, this holonomy group is a Lie group (this is a result of Guijarro and Walschap).  相似文献

We consider the Ricci flow equation for invariant metrics on compact and connected homogeneous spaces whose isotropy representation decomposes into two irreducible inequivalent summands. By studying the corresponding dynamical system, we completely describe the behaviour of the homogeneous Ricci flow on this kind of spaces. Moreover, we investigate the existence of ancient solutions and relate this to the existence and non-existence of invariant Einstein metrics.  相似文献

We give a complete list of all homogeneous spaces M = G/H where G is a simple compact Lie group, H a connected, closed subgroup, and G/H is simply connected, for which the isotropy representation of H on T p M decomposes into exactly two irreducible summands. For each homogeneous space, we determine whether it admits a G-invariant Einstein metric. When there is an intermediate subgroup HKG, we classify all the G-invariant Einstein metrics. This is an extension of the classification of isotropy irreducible spaces, given independently by Manturov (Dokl. Akad. Nauk SSSR 141, (1961), 792–795 1034–1037, Tr. Semin. Vector Tensor Anal. 13, (1966), 68–145) and J Wolf (Acta Math. 120, (1968), 59–148 152, (1984) 141–142).   相似文献

Let S=G/K be a strongly irreducible, simply connected, compact symmetric space and let be its group of isometries. We classify the symmetric spaces among these that admit free, isometric circle actions. The existence of such actions is important in constructing examples of manifolds with positive sectional curvature.  相似文献

An isometric action of a compact Lie group on a Riemannian manifold is called hyperpolar if there exists a closed, connected submanifold that is flat in the induced metric and meets all orbits orthogonally. In this article, a classification of hyperpolar actions on the irreducible Riemannian symmetric spaces of compact type is given. Since on these symmetric spaces actions of cohomogeneity one are hyperpolar, i.e. normal geodesics are closed, we obtain a classification of the homogeneous hypersurfaces in these spaces by computing the cohomogeneity for all hyperpolar actions. This result implies a classification of the cohomogeneity one actions on compact strongly isotropy irreducible homogeneous spaces.

We classify the ordinary differential equations that correspond to elliptic CR-manifolds with maximal isotropy. It follows that the dimension of the isotropy group of an elliptic CR-manifold can only be 10 (for the quadric), 4 (for the listed examples) or less. This is in contrast with the situation of hyperbolic CR-manifolds, where the dimension can be 10 (for the quadric), 6 or 5 (for semi-quadrics) or less than 4. We also prove that, for all elliptic CR-manifolds with non-linearizable isotropy group, except for two special manifolds, the points with non-linearizable isotropy form exactly some complex curve on the manifold.  相似文献

A Riemannian g.o. manifold is a homogeneous Riemannian manifold (M,g) on which every geodesic is an orbit of a one-parameter group of isometries. It is known that every simply connected Riemannian g.o. manifold of dimension ?5 is naturally reductive. In dimension 6 there are simply connected Riemannian g.o. manifolds which are in no way naturally reductive, and their full classification is known (including compact examples). In dimension 7, just one new example has been known up to now (namely, a Riemannian nilmanifold constructed by C. Gordon). In the present paper we describe compact irreducible 7-dimensional Riemannian g.o. manifolds (together with their “noncompact duals”) which are in no way naturally reductive.  相似文献

In this paper we discuss the instability of harmonic foliations on compact submanifolds immersed in Euclidean spaces and compact homogeneous spaces. We obtain a sufficient condition for a harmonic foliation to be unstable on compact submanifolds in a Euclidean space and on compact isotropy irreducible homogeneous spaces. We also classify compact symmetric spaces which have no non-trivial stable harmonic foliation.  相似文献
