This paper is the second in a series revisiting the (effect of) Faraday rotation. We formulate and prove the thermodynamic limit for the transverse electric conductivity of Bloch electrons, as well as for the Verdet constant. The main mathematical tool is a regularized magnetic and geometric perturbation theory combined with elliptic regularity and Agmon-Combes-Thomas uniform exponential decay estimates.  相似文献

In the framework of linear theory of instability the pattern instability is studied for a layer of a viscous fluid in a large aspect ratio container subject to vertically arbitrarily periodic excitation. As some applications, first the instabilities for Faraday water-wave system under excitations of the triangle and square waves are analyzed. Then, the relations between relative amplitudes and phase of the excitation, and the response modes of the patterns are investigated in the double-frequency Faraday experiment. 在柱坐标系下,通过奇异摄动理论的多尺度展开法求解势流方程,研究了垂直强迫激励圆柱形容器中的单一模式水表面驻波模式。假设流体是无粘、不可压且运动是无旋的,在忽略了表面张力的影响下,用两变量时间展开法得到一个具有立方项以及底部驱动项影响的非线性振幅方程。对上述方程进行了数值计算,计算的结果显示了在不同驱动振幅和驱动频率下,会激发不同自由水表面驻波模式,从等高线的图像来看,和以往的实验结果相当吻合。  相似文献

The unitary rotation of square-pixellated images is based on the finite su(2)-oscillator model, which describes systems whose values for position, momentum and energy, are discrete and finite. In a two-dimensional position space, this allows the construction of angular momentum states, orthonormal and complete, for which rotations are defined as multiplication by phases that carry the rotation angle. The decomposition of a digital square images in terms of these angular momentum states determines a unitary (hence invertible) rotation of the image, whose kernel can be computed as a four-dimensional array of real numbers.  相似文献

We give a complete list of affine minimal surfaces inA 3 with Euclidean rotational symmetry, completing the treatise given in [1] and prove that these surfaces have maximal affine surface area within the class of all affine surfaces of rotation satisfying suitable boundary conditions. Besides we show that for rotationally symmetric locally strongly convex affine minimal hypersurfaces inA n ,n4, the second variation of the affine surface area is negative definite under certain conditions on the meridian.  相似文献

Kiers (Psychometrika 56:197–212, 1991) considered the orthogonal rotation in PCAMIX, a principal component method for a mixture of qualitative and quantitative variables. PCAMIX includes the ordinary principal component analysis and multiple correspondence analysis (MCA) as special cases. In this paper, we give a new presentation of PCAMIX where the principal components and the squared loadings are obtained from a Singular Value Decomposition. The loadings of the quantitative variables and the principal coordinates of the categories of the qualitative variables are also obtained directly. In this context, we propose a computationally efficient procedure for varimax rotation in PCAMIX and a direct solution for the optimal angle of rotation. A simulation study shows the good computational behavior of the proposed algorithm. An application on a real data set illustrates the interest of using rotation in MCA. We consider one parameter families of vector fields depending on a parameter ? such that for ?=0 the system becomes a rotation of R2×Rn around {0}×Rn and such that for ?>0 the origin is a hyperbolic singular point of saddle type with, say, attraction in the rotation plane and expansion in the complementary space. We look for a local subcenter invariant manifold extending the stable manifolds to ?=0. Afterwards the analogous case for maps is considered. We introduce the concept of “stabilization by rotation” for deterministic linear systems with negative trace. This concept encompasses the well-known concept of “vibrational stabilization” introduced by Meerkov in the 1970s and is a deterministic version of ‘stabilization by noise’ for stochastic systems as introduced by Arnold and coworkers in the 1980s. It is shown that a linear system with negative trace can be stabilized by adding a skew-symmetric matrix, multiplied by a suitable scalar so-called “gain function” (possibly a constant) which is sufficiently large. To overcome the problem of what is “sufficiently large”, we also present a servo mechanism which tunes the gain function by learning from the trajectory until finally the trajectory tends to zero. This approach allows to show that one of Meerkov's assumptions for vibrational stabilization is superfluous. Moreover, while Meerkov as well as Arnold and coworkers assume that a stabilizing periodic function or the noise has sufficiently large frequency and amplitude, we also provide a servo mechanism to determine this function dynamically in a deterministic setup.  相似文献

We consider rotation invariant windowed Radon transforms that integrate a function over hyperplanes by using a radial weight (called window). T. Quinto proved their injectivity for square integrable functions of compact support. This cannot be extended in general. Actually, when the Laplace transform of the window has a zero with positive real part δ, the windowed Radon transform is not injective on functions with a Gaussian decay at infinity, depending on δ. Nevertheless, we give conditions on the window that imply injectivity of the windowed Radon transform on functions with a more rapid decay than any Gaussian function.  相似文献
