In Witten's topological theory of the generation problem, gauge groups are identified with theE 8 centraliser of the holonomy group of the internal manifold. Here we show that this amounts to interpreting gauge groups as generalised symmetry groups of the (internal) Levi-Civitá connection. We then give techniques for computing centralisers in exceptional groups, taking into account the fact that holonomy groups are frequently disconnected. These techniques allow us to deal with compact locally irreducible Ricci-flat Riemannian manifolds of all holonomy types and dimensions.  相似文献

The explicit operator expressions of both the 3-Neveu-Schwarz (NS) and Neveu-Schwarz-Ramond-Ramond vertices in Witten's superstring field theory are given by using the method recently developed by Kunitomo and the author. The BRST invariance of these vertices is proved at the critical dimension d=10. Further, we clarify the relation between the prefactor of the 3-NS vertex required by the BRST invariance and the picture changing operator.  相似文献

This paper gives a mathematically rigorous proof of the positive energy theorem using spinors. This completes and simplifies the original argument presented by Edward Witten. We present a simple heuristic calculational scheme to relate the expectation value of Wilson loops in Chern-Simons theory to the Jones polynomial. We consider the exponential of the generator of homotopy transformations which produces the finite loop deformations that define the crossing change formulas of knot polynomials. Applying this operator to the expectation value of Wilson loops for an unspecified measure, we find a set of conditions on the measure and the regularization such that the Jones polynomial is obtained.  相似文献

Witten's 2+1 dimensional Chern-Simons theory is exactly solvable. We compute the partition function, a topological invariant of 3-manifolds, on generalized Seifert spaces. Thus we test the path integral using the theory of 3-manifolds. In particular, we compare the exact solution with the asymptotic formula predicted by perturbation theory. We conclude that this path integral works as advertised and gives an effective topological invariant.The first author is supported by NSF grant DMS-8805684, an Alfred P. We show that Witten's action for the NSR superstring on the space of non-smooth vectors generated by SUSY transformations depends on regularization that demonstrates the presence of anomalies in the theory. The necessity of choosing the regularization is connected with the appearance of the product of picture-changing operators at coincident points. Using one of the possible types of regularization, we get the minimal formulation involving truncated fields, and adopting another one, we get the scheme implied in Witten's paper.  相似文献

Using conformal mapping techniques, we obtain a new BRST invariant operator ϒ encoding in closed form transition amplitudes between open strings and closed strings. The residues of the closed string poles in the non-planar one-loop two-point diagram of Witten's string field theory are finite sums of products of these amplitudes.  相似文献

We calculate a largek asymptotic expansion of the exact surgery formula for Witten'sSU(2) invariant of some Seifert manifolds. The contributions of all flat connections are identified. An agreement with the 1-loop formula is checked. A contribution of the irreducible connections appears to contain only a finite number of terms in the asymptotic series. Witten's gauge fields are interpreted as motions on an infinite-dimensional Grassmann manifold. Unlike the case of self-dual Yang-Mills equations in Takasaki's work, the initial data must satisfy a system of differential equations since Witten's equations comprise a pair of spectral parameters. Solutions corresponding to (anti-) self-dual Yang-Mills fields are characterized in the space of initial data and in application, some Yang-Mills fields which are not self-dual, anti-self-dual nor abelian can be constructed.  相似文献

The effects of three-body non-additivities on the most stable structures of Ar+ n (3 ≤ n ≤ 27) clusters have been investigated in an extended diatomics-in-molecules (DIM) approach. Non-additive interaction terms for both the neutral and the ionic trimer have been included explicitly in the DIM Hamiltonian. Structural rearrangement is observed for a number of cluster sizes due to induced dipole—induced dipole interactions.  相似文献

I show that, while the BRST symmetry in non-Abelian gauge theory QCD (Quantum Chromodynamics) leads to the Slavnov-Taylor identity for the quark-gluon vertex which constrains the longitudinal part of thevertex, the transverse symmetry transformation associated with the BRST symmetry enables to derive the transverse Slavnov-Taylor identity for the quark-gluon vertex, which constrains the transverse part of the quark-gluon vertex from the gauge symmetry of QCD.  相似文献
