A quantum-statistical treatment of stimulated Raman scattering in a gaseous system is presented using a density-matrix formalism. The molecular (atomic) system is described by three energy levels. Both atomic system and the radiation fields are quantized. The effects of atomic motion and detuning are incorporated in the analysis. Higher order nonlinearities and loss terms are included to render the problem more realistic. The equations of motion describing the photonstatistics of pump and Stokes fields are obtained. The equation, without detailed balance, is solved in the steady-state by a slowly varying function technique in the case of two variables. The steady state characteristics of the Stokes field are studied. The coherence properties, occurrence of antibunching phenomena are studied for different initial distributions.  相似文献

A quantum-statistical treatment of coherert anti-Stokes Raman scatterirg in a gaseous system is presented. The atomic system is described by two energy levels. Both the atomic system and the radiation fields are quartized. The effects of atomic motion ard the detuning are incorporated into the analysis. The equations of motion describing the photor statistics of pump, Stokes and anti-Stokes fields are obtained considering the process as a two-step one. The time-evolution of average photon number and the second-order coherence of the anti-Stokes fields for different initial distributions are studied. This paper is a theoretical analysis of the noise produced by a single-mode semiconductor laser. We allow for spectral hole-burning in the gain line and for the nonlinear dependence of the carrier spontaneous recombination rate on the number of carriers in the active area. We show that these processes do not inhibit the squeezing of the outgoing photon flux noise below the shot noise level at high pump currents but that the degree of squeezing decreases considerably. The optical bistability (OB) in Gaussian inhomogeneously broadened ring lasers with saturable absorber (LSA) in both resonance and out-of-resonance is theoretically analyzed in the rate-equation approximation based on the dual two-level model. The OB effect may appear for appropriate sets of LSA control parameter values which can be displayed in phase diagrams. The characteristics of the OB curves as well as their stability behavior are analytically and numerically studied in detail. The influence of the control parameters, including detuning, are investigated and displayed in the figures. A brief comparison with the Lorentzian case is given as well. The emission from a high gain pencil-shaped volume of inhomogeneously broadened (T12) and initially completely inverted two-level atoms is described fully quantum-mechanically taking into account propagation along the pencil axis. The emission is shown to be superfluorescence for T12 ? √τRτD and amplified spontaneous emission for τR ? T12 ? √τRτD, where τR and τD are the collective decay time and the delay time of pure (T12 = ∞) superfluorescence, respectively.  相似文献

Peculiarities of the implementation of a superradiant generation mode in a laser with a distributed feedback of the waves and an inhomogeneously broadened spectral line of the active medium are investigated. Based on a numerical solution of the semiclassical Maxwell-Bloch equations for the amplitudes of counterpropagating electromagnetic waves, polarization, and inversion of a two-level medium population, it is shown that a sequence of coherent high-power pulses is generated by the Bragg structure in a wide range of the laser parameters as a result of the selected mode and the cw pumping.  相似文献

The magnitude and sign of self-Kerr nonlinear coefficient in a degenerate two-level inhomogeneously broadened medium are simply controlled by an external magnetic field. By changing the external magnetic field we can switch a negative peak of Kerr nonlinear coefficient into a positive peak and vice versa, and transform a zero value of Kerr nonlinear coefficient into a positive or negative peak in resonant region. Such a controllable Kerr nonlinear coefficient can be used to manipulate the working characteristics of photonic devices such as optical switches and bistable elements.  相似文献

A fully quantum mechanical density-matrix formalism of stimulated hyper-Raman scattering is presented. The effects of atomic motion, higher-order non-linearities and losses are included. The equations are solved exactly under the three-photon resonance condition and a situation of low losses. The photon-statistics of the Stokes field is studied in the steady-state. The collective spontaneous emission of a fully inverted inhomogeneously broadened ensemble of N two-level systems coupled to a single-mode low-Q cavity is investigated numerically using Monte Carlo wave function technique. An intrinsically bi-exponential emission dynamics is found when the time scales of superradiance tau(sr) and inhomogeneous dephasing T2* approximately 1/Deltaomega(inh) become comparable: a fast superradiant is followed by a slow subradiant decay. Experimental configurations using ensembles of quantum dots coupled to optical microcavities are proposed as possible candidates to observe the combined superradiant and subradiant energy relaxation.  相似文献

By generalizing recently obtained results we calculate the excess noise factor (Petermann factor) for a laser system with non-orthogonal eigenmodes. The quantum consistency of the calculation is shown through the explicit conservation of input-output commutation rules. As a result of the calculation, the excess noise in the lasing mode is shown to depend on the laser gain below threshold, and on the noise analysis frequency below and above threshold.
