The semiclassical approximation for the Hamiltonian of Dirac particles interacting with an arbitrary gravitational field is investigated. The time dependence of the metric leads to new contributions to the in-band energy operator in comparison to previous works in the static case. In particular we find a new coupling term between the linear momentum and the spin, as well as couplings that contribute to the breaking of the particle–antiparticle symmetry.  相似文献

It has been recently found that the equations of motion of several semiclassical systems must take into account terms arising from Berry phases contributions. Those terms are responsible for the spin Hall effect in semiconductor as well as the Magnus effect of light propagating in inhomogeneous media. Intensive ongoing research on this subject seems to indicate that a broad class of quantum systems may be affected by Berry phase terms. It is therefore important to find a general procedure allowing for the determination of semiclassical Hamiltonian with Berry Phase corrections. This article presents a general diagonalization method at order ħ for a large class of quantum Hamiltonians directly inducing Berry phase corrections. As a consequence, Berry phase terms on both coordinates and momentum operators naturally arise during the diagonalization procedure. This leads to new equations of motion for a wide class of semiclassical system. As physical applications we consider here a Dirac particle in an electromagnetic or static gravitational field, and the propagation of a Bloch electrons in an external electromagnetic field.  相似文献

The gravitational effects in the relativistic quantum mechanics are investigated. The exact Foldy-Wouthuysen transformation is constructed for the Dirac particle coupled to the static spacetime metric. As a direct application, we analyze the nonrelativistic limit of the theory. The new term describing the specific spin (gravitational moment) interaction effect is recovered in the Hamiltonian. The comparison of the true gravitational coupling with the purely inertial case demonstrates that the spin relativistic effects do not violate the equivalence principle for the Dirac fermions.  相似文献

It is the first time stationary bound states of elementary spin 1/2 particles that do not decay with time are obtained for a Schwarzschild gravitational field using a self-conjugate Hamiltonian with a flat scalar product in a wide range of gravitational coupling constant. In order to obtain a discrete energy spectrum, we introduce a boundary condition such that the current density of Dirac particles near the “event horizon” is zero.  相似文献

A relativistic particle in an attractive Coulomb field as well as a static and spherically symmetric gravitational field is studied. The gravitational field is treated perturbatively and the energy levels are obtained for both spin 0 (Klein-Gordon) and spin 1/2 (Dirac) particles. The results are shown to coincide with each other as well as the result of the nonrelativistic (Schr?dinger) equation in the nonrelativistic limit.  相似文献

The relativistic Dirac equation in four-dimensional spacetime reveals a coherent relation between the dimensions of spacetime and the degrees of freedom of fermionic spinors. A massless Dirac fermion generates new symmetries corresponding to chirality spin and charge spin as well as conformal scaling transformations. With the introduction of intrinsic W-parity, a massless Dirac fermion can be treated as a Majorana-type or Weyl-type spinor in a six-dimensional spacetime that reflects the intrinsic quantum numbers of chirality spin. A generalized Dirac equation is obtained in the six-dimensional spacetime with a maximal symmetry. Based on the framework of gravitational quantum field theory proposed in Ref. [1] with the postulate of gauge invariance and coordinate independence, we arrive at a maximally symmetric gravitational gauge field theory for the massless Dirac fermion in six-dimensional spacetime. Such a theory is governed by the local spin gauge symmetry SP(1,5) and the global Poincar′e symmetry P(1,5)= SO(1,5) P~(1,5) as well as the charge spin gauge symmetry SU(2). The theory leads to the prediction of doubly electrically charged bosons. A scalar field and conformal scaling gauge field are introduced to maintain both global and local conformal scaling symmetries. A generalized gravitational Dirac equation for the massless Dirac fermion is derived in the six-dimensional spacetime. The equations of motion for gauge fields are obtained with conserved currents in the presence of gravitational effects. The dynamics of the gauge-type gravifield as a Goldstone-like boson is shown to be governed by a conserved energy-momentum tensor, and its symmetric part provides a generalized Einstein equation of gravity. An alternative geometrical symmetry breaking mechanism for the mass generation of Dirac fermions is demonstrated.  相似文献

The Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formulations for the relativistic classical dynamics of a charged particle with dipole moment in the presence of an electromagnetic field are given. The differential conservation laws for the energy-momentum and angular momentum tensors of a field and particle are discussed. The Poisson brackets for basic dynamic variables, which form a closed algebra, are found. These Poisson brackets enable us to perform the canonical quantization of the Hamiltonian equations that leads to the Dirac wave equation in the case of spin 1/2. It is also shown that the classical limit of the squared Dirac equation results in equations of motion for a charged particle with dipole moment obtained from the Lagrangian formulation. The inclusion of gravitational field and non-Abelian gauge fields into the proposed formalism is discussed.Received: 4 June 2005, Published online: 27 July 2005  相似文献

Dynamics of the Dirac particle spin in general strong gravitational fields is discussed. The Hermitian Dirac Hamiltonian is derived and transformed to the Foldy-Wouthuysen (FW) representation for an arbitrary metric. The quantum mechanical equations of spin motion are found. These equations agree with corresponding classical ones. The new restriction on the anomalous gravitomagnetic moment (AGM) by the reinterpretation of Lorentz invariance tests is obtained.  相似文献

The effects of a transverse magnetic field on relativistic particles in two dimensions are treated by using the semiclassical quantization rules and the role played by the spin is emphasized. The Landau levels? energies are analyzed by focusing on the square-root dependence on level index obtained for relativistic spinless particles. This result will be compared to the energies calculated for relativistic particles with spin that are governed by the Dirac equation in relativistic quantum mechanics. Then relativistic massless fermions are discussed. The approach provides a conceptual and intuitive introduction to the grounds of quantum Hall effect in carbon based nanostructures.  相似文献

The general scheme of the successive construction of semiclassical approximation for the classical Dirac equation in a background Yang-Mills field, where the usual Dirac operator is replaced by that with supersymmetry, is suggested. The first two terms of the semiclassical expansion in Planck’s constant are derived in an explicit form. It is shown that supersymmetry of the initial Dirac operator leads to appearance of new additional terms in the classical equation of motion for spin of a particle and ipso facto requires appropriate modification for the Lagrangian of the spinning particle. The result obtained is used for the construction of one-to-one mapping between two Lagrangians of a classical color-charged spinning particle, one of which possesses local supersymmetry, and another doesn’t. It is demonstrated that for recovery of the one-to-oneness the additional terms obtained above in the semiclassical approximation of the Dirac operator with supersymmetry should be added to the Lagrangian without supersymmetry.  相似文献

In the new framework of gravitational quantum field theory (GQFT) with spin and scaling gauge invariance developed in Phys. Rev. D 93 (2016) 024012-1, we make a perturbative expansion for the full action in a background field which accounts for the early inflationary universe. We decompose the bicovariant vector fields of gravifield and spin gauge field with Lorentz and spin symmetries SO(1,3) and SP(1,3) in biframe spacetime into SO(3) representations for deriving the propagators of the basic quantum fields and extract their interaction terms. The leading order Feynman rules are presented. A tree-level 2 to 2 scattering amplitude of the Dirac fermions, through a gravifield and a spin gauge field, is calculated and compared to the Born approximation of the potential. It is shown that the Newton's gravitational law in the early universe is modified due to the background field. The spin dependence of the gravitational potential is demonstrated.  相似文献

One may ask whether the relations between energy and frequency and between momentum and wave vector, introduced for matter waves by de Broglie, are rigorously valid in the presence of gravity. In this paper, we show this to be true for Dirac equations in a background of gravitational and electromagnetic fields. We first transform any Dirac equation into an equivalent canonical form, sometimes used in particular cases to solve Dirac equations in a curved space-time. This canonical form is needed to apply Whitham’s Lagrangian method. The latter method, unlike the Wentzel–Kramers–Brillouin method, places no restriction on the magnitude of Planck’s constant to obtain wave packets and furthermore preserves the symmetries of the Dirac Lagrangian. We show by using canonical Dirac fields in a curved space-time that the probability current has a Gordon decomposition into a convection current and a spin current and that the spin current vanishes in the Whitham approximation, which explains the negligible effect of spin on wave packet solutions, independent of the size of Planck’s constant. We further discuss the classical-quantum correspondence in a curved space-time based on both Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formulations of the Whitham equations. We show that the generalized de Broglie relations in a curved space-time are a direct consequence of Whitham’s Lagrangian method and not just a physical hypothesis as introduced by Einstein and de Broglie and by many quantum mechanics textbooks.  相似文献

The action which describes the interaction of gravitational and electron fields is expressed in canonical form. In addition to general covariance, it exhibits the local Lorentz invariance associated with four-dimensional rotations of the local orthonormal frames. The corresponding Hamiltonian constraints are derived and their (Dirac) bracket relations given. The derivative coupling of the gravitational tetrad and spinor fields is not present in the Hamiltonian, but rather in the unusual bracket relations of the field variables in the theory. If the timelike leg of the tetrad field is fixed to be normal to the xo = constant hyper-surfaces (“time gauge”) the derivative coupling drops from the theory in the sense that the relation between the gravitational velocities and momenta is the same as when the spinor fields are absent.  相似文献

Based on the opinion that the γ-matrices in Dirac equation have structure and are decomposable, we decompose the γ-matrices into the direct product of the operators in the spin space and the particle-antiparticle space. By using this method, we attain a complete set of commutative operators, a set of quantum numbers and the correspondingly eigen solutions of the Hamiltonian for a charged Dirac particle moving in a uniform constant magnetic field. In addition, the dynamic supersymmetry of the Hamiltonian is unveiled. Spin symmetry breaking and particle-antiparticle symmetry breaking are discussed, and the supersymmetric group operator of the degenerate spin subspace resulting from the spin residual supersymmetry is found.  相似文献

The experiment by Collela et al. (1975) [1] evidenced in a striking manner how the gravitational field appears in quantum mechanics. Within the modern framework of gauge theories, one can ascribe such effect as due to gauge fields originated from fundamental symmetries of spacetime: local transformations of the Lorentz-Poincaré group. When this gauge principle is applied to the Dirac equation, we obtain kinematical correlations between the gravitational field and the spin of the particles. The phenomenon is similar to the spin Hall effect found in condensed matter systems, although much smaller in magnitude. Actual measurements may require highly precision interferometric techniques with spin-polarized neutrons.  相似文献
