In this paper, the effects of variable thermal conductivity and radiation on the flow and heat transfer of an electrically conducting micropolar fluid over a continuously stretching surface with varying temperature in the presence of a magnetic field are considered. The surface temperature is assumed to vary as a power-law temperature. The governing conservation equations of mass, momentum, angular momentum and energy are converted into a system of non-linear ordinary differential equations by means of similarity transformation. The resulting system of coupled non-linear ordinary differential equations is solved numerically. The numerical results show that the thermal boundary thickness increases as the thermal conductivity parameter SS increases, while it decreases as the radiation parameter FF increases. Also, it was found that the Nusselt number increases as FF increases and decreases as SS increases.  相似文献

The effects of variable fluid properties and variable heat flux on the flow and heat transfer of a non-Newtonian Maxwell fluid over an unsteady stretching sheet in the presence of slip velocity have been studied. The governing differential equations are transformed into a set of coupled non-linear ordinary differential equations and then solved with a numerical technique using appropriate boundary conditions for various physical parameters. The numerical solution for the governing non-linear boundary value problem is based on applying the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method coupled with the shooting technique over the entire range of physical parameters. The effects of various parameters like the viscosity parameter, thermal conductivity parameter, unsteadiness parameter, slip velocity parameter, the Deborah number, and the Prandtl number on the flow and temperature profiles as well as on the local skin-friction coefficient and the local Nusselt number are presented and discussed. Comparison of numerical results is made with the earlier published results under limiting cases.  相似文献

A steady two-dimensional free convective flow of a viscous incompressible fluid along a vertical stretching sheet with the effect of magnetic field, radiation and variable thermal conductivity in porous media is analyzed. The nonlinear partial differential equations, governing the flow field under consideration, have been transformed by a similarity transformation into a systemof nonlinear ordinary differential equations and then solved numerically. Resulting non-dimensional velocity and temperature profiles are then presented graphically for different values of the parameters. Finally, the effects of the pertinent parameters, which are of physical and engineering interest, are examined both in graphical and tabular form.  相似文献

Current study examines the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) boundary layer flow of a Casson nanofluid over an exponentially permeable shrinking sheet with convective boundary condition. Moreover, we have considered the suction/injection effects on the wall. By applying the appropriate transformations, system of non-linear partial differential equation along with the boundary conditions are transformed to couple non-linear ordinary differential equations. The resulting systems of non-linear ordinary differential equations are solved numerically using Runge-Kutta method. Numerical results for velocity, temperature and nanoparticle volume concentration are presented through graphs for various values of dimensionless parameters. Effects of parameters for heat transfer at wall and nanoparticle volume concentration are also presented through graphs and tables. At the end, fluid flow behavior is examined through stream lines. Concluding remarks are provided for the whole analysis.  相似文献

A steady magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow past a radially stretching or shrinking disk is investigated. The governing partial differential equations are transformed into a set of ordinary (similarity) differential equations by a similarity transformation. These equations along with the corresponding boundary conditions are solved numerically using the boundary value problem solver (bvp4c) in Matlab. The effects of magnetic field and suction on the shear stress and the heat transfer are analyzed and discussed. It is found that both parameters affect more in the shrinking region. The increase in the magnetic parameter results in the increase of the skin friction coefficient but decrease in the local Nusselt number. The skin friction coefficient and the local Nusselt number increase as suction increases.  相似文献

The flow and heat transfer problem of a second grade fluid film over an unsteady stretching sheet is considered. The fluid is incompressible and electrically conducting in the presence of a uniform applied magnetic field. The series solutions of the governing boundary value problems are obtained by employing homotopy analysis method (HAM). The convergence of the developed solutions is discussed explicitly. The dependence of velocity and temperature profiles on various parameters is shown and discussed through graphs. The values of skin-friction coefficient, Nusselt number and free surface temperature are given in tabular form for various emerging parameters.  相似文献

A boundary layer analysis is presented for non-Newtonian fluid flow and heat transfer over a nonlinearly stretching surface. The Casson fluid model is used to characterize the non-Newtonian fluid behavior. By using suitable transformations, the governing partial differential equations corresponding to the momentum and energy equations are converted into non-linear ordinary differential equations. Numerical solutions of these equations are obtained with the shooting method. The effect of increasing Casson parameter is to suppress the velocity field. However the temperature is enhanced with the increasing Casson parameter.  相似文献

The aim of the current study is to find out the dual solutions of the two-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow of Casson fluid and heat transfer over the stretching sheet. The focus of the study is to examine the linear thermal radiation effects on dual solutions for both the steady and unsteady flow of Casson fluid over the stretching sheet under the influence of uniform magnetic field. The governing equations are formed as system of partial differential equations (PDEs). Using suitable transformations, the system of PDEs are converted into favorable nonlinear system of ordinary differential equations (ODEs). Simulations are performed in Maple 2015 to form the dual solutions in order to achieve the velocity, temperature, skin friction and heat transfer profiles of the Casson fluid over the stretching sheet. It is concluded that the dual solutions for the corresponding model are numerically stable. Furthermore, the upper branch solutions of the Casson fluid profiles are numerically stable as compared to the lower branch solutions. Results indicate that positive Eigen values of the MHD flow of Casson fluid provide stable profiles as compared to the negative Eigen values. It is believed that the current study would provide a base for the dual solution of the other types of the non-Newtonian fluid flows over various categories of surfaces.  相似文献

An analysis has been carried out to study the effects of thermal-diffusion and diffusion-thermo on non-Darcian mixed convection heat and mass transfer of an incompressible, electrically conducting fluid over a stretching sheet embedded in a porous medium in the presence of an external magnetic field and non-uniform heat source/sink. Similarity transformations are used to convert highly non-linear partial differential equations into ordinary differential equations. Similarity equations are then solved numerically using shooting algorithm with Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg scheme over the entire range of physical parameters. The effects of various physical parameters on the dimensionless velocity, temperature and concentration profiles are depicted graphically. Present results are compared with previously published work on various special cases of the problem and the results are found to be in very good agreement. Numerical results for local skin-friction, local Nusselt number and local Sherwood number are tabulated for different physical parameters.  相似文献

Present model is devoted for the stagnation point flow of nanofluid with magneto-hydrodynamics (MHD) and thermal radiation effects passed over a stretching sheet. Moreover, we have considered the combined effects of velocity and thermal slip. Condition of zero normal flux of nanoparticles at the wall for the stretched flow phenomena is yet to be explored in the literature. Convinced partial differential equations of the model are transformed into the system of coupled nonlinear differential equations and then solved numerically. Graphical results are plotted for velocity, temperature and nanoparticle concentration for various values of emerging parameters. Variation of stream lines, skin friction coefficient, local Nusselt and Sherwood number are displayed along with the effective parameters. Final conclusion has been drawn on the basis of both numerical and graphs results.  相似文献

In this article, the unsteady magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) stagnation point flow and heat transfer of a nanofluid over a stretching/shrinking sheet is investigated numerically. The similarity solution is used to reduce the governing system of partial differential equations to a set of nonlinear ordinary differential equations which are then solved numerically using the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method with shooting technique. The ambient fluid velocity, stretching/shrinking velocity of sheet, and the wall temperature are assumed to vary linearly with the distance from the stagnation point. To investigate the influence of various pertinent parameters, graphical results for the local Nusselt number, the skin friction coefficient, velocity profile, and temperature profile are presented for different values of the governing parameters for three types of nanoparticles, namely copper, alumina, and titania in the water-based fluid. It is found that the dual solution exists for the decelerating flow. Numerical results show that the extent of the dual solution domain increases with the increases of velocity ratio, magnetic parameter, and permeability parameter whereas it remains constant as the value of solid volume fraction of nanoparticles changes. Also, it is found that permeability parameter has a greater effect on the flow and heat transfer of a nanofluid than the magnetic parameter.  相似文献

We examine the problem of flow and heat transfer in a second grade fluid over a stretching sheet [K. Vajravelu, T. Roper, Int. J. Nonlinear Mech. 34, 1031 (1999)]. The equations considered by Vajravelu and Roper [K. Vajravelu, T. Roper, Int. J. Nonlinear Mech. 34, 1031 (1999)], are found to be incorrect in the literature. In this paper, we not only corrected the equation but found a useful analytic solution to this important problem. We also extended the problem for hydromagnetic flow and heat transfer with Hall effect. The explicit analytic homotopy solution for the velocity field and heat transfer are presented. Graphs for the velocity field, skin friction coefficient, and rate of heat transfer are presented. Tables for the skin friction coefficient and rate of heat transfer are also presented. The convergence of the solution is also properly checked and discussed.  相似文献

The steady two-dimensional MHD stagnation point flow towards a stretching sheet with variable surface temperature is investigated. The governing system of partial differential equations are transformed into ordinary differential equations, which are then solved numerically using a finite-difference scheme known as the Keller-box method. The effects of the governing parameters on the flow field and heat transfer characteristics are obtained and discussed. It is found that the heat transfer rate at the surface increases with the magnetic parameter when the free stream velocity exceeds the stretching velocity, i.e. ε>1, and the opposite is observed when ε<1.  相似文献

The effect of variable viscosity and thermal conductivity on steady magnetohydrodynamic(MHD) heat and mass transfer flow of viscous and incompressible fluid near a stagnation point towards a permeable stretching sheet embedded in a porous medium are presented, taking into account thermal radiation and internal heat genberation/absorbtion.The stretching velocity and the ambient fluid velocity are assumed to vary linearly with the distance from the stagnation point. The Rosseland approximation is used to describe the radiative heat flux in the energy equation. The governing fundamental equations are first transformed into a system of ordinary differential equations using a scaling group of transformations and are solved numerically by using the fourth-order Rung-Kutta method with the shooting technique.A comparison with previously published work has been carried out and the results are found to be in good agreement. The results are analyzed for the effect of different physical parameters, such as the variable viscosity and thermal conductivity, the ratio of free stream velocity to stretching velocity, the magnetic field, the porosity, the radiation and suction/injection on the flow, and the heat and mass transfer characteristics. The results indicate that the inclusion of variable viscosity and thermal conductivity into the fluids of light and medium molecular weight is able to change the boundary-layer behavior for all values of the velocity ratio parameter λ except for λ = 1.In addition, the imposition of fluid suction increases both the rate of heat and mass transfer, whereas fluid injection shows the opposite effect.  相似文献

This article explores the boundary layer flow and heat transfer of a viscous nanofluid bounded by a hyperbolically stretching sheet. Effects of Brownian and thermophoretic diffusions on heat transfer and concentration of nanoparticles are given due attention. The resulting nonlinear problems are computed for analytic and numerical solutions. The effects of Brownian motion and thermophoretic property are found to increase the temperature of the medium and reduce the heat transfer rate. The thermophoretic property thus enriches the concentration while the Brownian motion reduces the concentration of the nanoparticles in the fluid. Opposite effects of these properties are observed on the Sherwood number.  相似文献

We develop a mathematical modeling for an electrically conducting non-Newtonian Maxwell fluid flow occurring between two coaxially parallel stretchable rotating disks at constant distant apart. The pressure and heat transfer analysis is carried out subject to the effects of axial magnetic field and temperature dependent thermal conductivity. The stretching and rotating rates of both disks are assumed different from each other. The two diverse phenomena, such as, when both disks are rotating with different angular velocities in the same as well as in the opposite directions are discussed. The similarity procedure adopted by von Kármán is utilized to reduce the governing momentum and energy equations into nonlinear ordinary differential equations. The solution of the governing problem is obtained numerically using bvp4c scheme in Matlab. The effects of active parameters including stretching rates, Deborah number, magnetic number, Prandtl number, thermal conductivity parameter and Reynolds number are examined for same as well as opposite rotation direction for radial, azimuthal, and axial flows, pressure and temperature fields. The classical flow pattern happening between the disks is significantly altered by the stretching action which is a main physical significances of this study. The azimuthal flow is observed higher for the same direction of disks rotation as compared to opposite disks rotation. The pressure field drops near the lower disk with increasing values of Reynolds number. The role of thermal conductivity parameter is quite useful to enhance the fluid temperature.  相似文献

The effects of transpiration on forced convection boundary layer non-Newtonian fluid flow and heat transfer toward a linearly stretching surface are reported. The flow is caused solely by the stretching of the sheet in its own plane with a velocity varying linearly with the distance from a fixed point. The constitutive relationship for the Casson fluid is used. The governing partial differential equations corresponding to the momentum and energy equations are converted into non-linear ordinary differential equations by using similarity transformations.Exact solutions of the resulting ordinary differential equations are obtained. The effect of increasing Casson parameter,i.e.,with decreasing yield stress(the fluid behaves as a Newtonian fluid as the Casson parameter becomes large),is to suppress the velocity field. However, the temperature is enhanced as the Casson parameter increases. It is observed that the effect of transpiration is to decrease the fluid velocity as well as the temperature. The skin-friction coefficient is found to increase as the transpiration parameter increases.  相似文献

This article is intended for investigating the effects of magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) and volume fraction of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) on the flow and heat transfer in two lateral directions over a stretching sheet. For this purpose, three types of base fluids specifically water, ethylene glycol and engine oil with single and multi-walled carbon nanotubes are used in the analysis. The convective boundary condition in the presence of CNTs is presented first time and not been explored so far. The transformed nonlinear differential equations are solved by the Runge–Kutta–Fehlberg method with a shooting technique. The dimensionless velocity and shear stress are obtained in both directions. The dimensionless heat transfer is determined on the surface. Three different models of thermal conductivity are comparable for both CNTs and it is found that the Xue [1] model gives the best approach to guess the superb thermal conductivity in comparison with the Maxwell [2] and Hamilton and Crosser [3] models. And finally, another finding suggests the engine oil provides the highest skin friction and heat transfer rates.  相似文献

The steady two-dimensional mixed convection flow of a micropolar fluid over a non-linear stretching sheet is investigated. The governing non-linear equations and their associated boundary conditions are transformed into coupled non-linear ordinary differential equations. The series solution of the problem is obtained by utilizing the homotopy analysis method (HAM). The convergence of the obtained series solutions is carefully checked. The physical significance of interesting parameters on the flow and the thermal fields are shown through graphs and discussed in detail. The values of wall shear stress, couple wall stress and the local Nusselt number are tabulated. Comparison is also made with the corresponding results of viscous fluid with no mixed convection and an excellent agreement is noted.  相似文献

In this study,by means of homotopy perturbation method(HPM) an approximate solution of the magnetohydrodynamic(MHD) boundary layer flow is obtained. The main feature of the HPM is that it deforms a difficult problem into a set of problems which are easier to solve.HPM produces analytical expressions for the solution to nonlinear differential equations. The obtained analytic solution is in the form of an infinite power series. In this work, the analytical solution obtained by using only two terms from HPM soluti...  相似文献
