Single crystal x-ray diffraction with a synchrotron source in a mdac at low temperature

Abstract

A new diamond anvil cell and a helium flow cryostat have been developed for x-ray diffraction on single crystals at low temperatures and high pressures using the white radiation of a synchrotron beam. This novel instrument especially enables continuous change of sample temperature and pressure without any adjustment of alignment. A minimum temperature of 46 K has been reached.

Damage recovery in the U-sublattice of ion implanted UO2 between 5 K and 2000 K

Abstract

Radiation damage was produced in UO₂ single crystals by controlled ion implantation with Kr- and Xe-ions in the energy range of 40 to 500 keV, and at implantation temperatures of 5, 77 or 293 K. The RBS/channeling technique was used to measure damage formation and recovery in the U-sublattice during postimplantation anneals. About 50 % of the defects (probably U-interstitials) annealed below room temperature (77 and 110 K), the remaining defects (probably U-vacancies) annealed at 700 - 900 K. At high doses, recovery was not complete before 2000 K were reached (extended defects in the U-sublattice). The concept of mobility of U-interstitials below room temperature contrasts theoretical work postulating a high migration energy for U-interstitials.     

High-pressure x-ray diffraction station at the beijing synchrotron radiation facility

Abstract

In the second phase construction of further insertion devices, beamlines and experimental stations at the Beijing Synchrotron Radiation Facility, a dedicated high-pressure x-ray diffraction station will be constructed. We outline the synchrotron radiation source, beamline optics and high-pressure x-ray diffraction apparatus. This facility is planned to operate for users in 1994.

High-pressure facilities at the ESRF

Abstract

Several beamlines at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility in Grenoble are being designed with high-pressure experiments in mind. Among the first seven beamlines the Microfocus Beamline, the Materials Science Beamline, the Laue White Beamline and the High Energy Beamline are of particular interest for high-pressure diffraction experiments. These experimental stations are outlined and their characteristics are compared.

X-ray absorption spectroscopy and high pressure

Abstract

The difficulties of the adaptation of high pressure to x-ray absorption are presented. The advantages of the energy-dispersive geometry are discussed as well as the future improvements expected with the new synchrotron radiation sources.
