Ferroelectric Glycine Phosphite (GPI) crystal have been grown from aqueous solution employing the slow cooling technique. As the crystal solubility in water depends on temperature, single crystals were grown. Transparent, colourless crystals with habit morphology weighing about 8g were obtained with in a month. The same procedure was used to grow single crystals of 10 wt% of Thiourea doped GPI (TUGPI). Formation of a new crystal was confirmed by Powder X‐ray diffraction studies as well as FTIR studies. Crystalline quality were found using rocking curve for both the crystals. Due to the presence of Thiourea in TUGPI, it improves the crystalline perfection and also enhances the growth rate. The variation of hardness on (010) faces of monoclinic GPI and TUGPI crystals, with load were studied.Vickers hardness numbers, Hv were found to decrease with the increase in load. The value of Mayer's index, ‘n ’ was found to be greater than 1.6 for GPI and TUGPI showing soft‐material category. The results are discussed in detail. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Modified TGS single crystals have been grown by doping with Cobalt (II) Phosphate in ferroelectric phase. The effects of different amounts of doping entities on the growth habit and PE hysteresis loop have been investigated. The experimental results show that while the spontaneous polarization Ps measured on variously doped crystals remains virtually unchanged, the coercive field values differ in dependence on the growth conditions and grown pyramidal features. The highest values of the coercive field Ec have been found to fall in the interval 800‐900 V/cm.  相似文献

The work reports the growth of single BI3 crystals with platelets habit. Platelets were grown by physical vapor deposition (PVD) in a high vacuum atmosphere and with argon, polymer or iodine as additives. Crystals grew in the zone of maximum temperature gradient, perpendicular to the ampoule wall. Crystals grown with argon as additive show a very shining surface, have hexagonal (0 0 l) faces, sizes up to 20 x 10 mm2 and thicknesses up to 100 μm. They were characterized by optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Dendritic‐like structures were found to be their main surface defect. SEM indicates that they grow from the staking of hexagonal unities. Electrical properties of the crystals grown under different growth conditions were determined. Resistivities up to 2 x 1012 Ωcm (the best reported value for monocrystals of this material) were obtained. X‐ray response was measured by irradiation of the platelets with a 241Am source of 3.5 mR/h. A comparison of results according to the growth conditions was made. Properties of the crystals grown by this method are compared with the ones measured for others previously grown from the melt. The relationship of the effect of impurity on crystal growth and morphology, along with the internal stress and anomalous birefringence arising upon impurity trapping by a growing crystal, is considered. The NH4Cl-MnCl2-H2O-CONH3 model system and the heterostructural NH4Cl:Mn2+ crystals formed in it are experimentally studied. It is found that up to 6.63 wt % Mn2+ impurity is effectively captured by growing NH4Cl crystals at an impurity trapping coefficient only slightly below unity. The effect of Mn impurity stabilizes the full-face growth of NH4Cl crystals with a rhombododecahedral habit in aqueous solutions and a cubic habit in water-formamide solutions. The trapping of manganese impurity by ammonium chloride crystals causes high internal stress (up to 4 GPa) in them, which manifests itself in the form of anomalous birefringence and leads to splitting, twinning, and cracking in NH4Cl crystals.  相似文献

The growth features of FeCr2S4 spinel single crystals prepared by chemical vapour transport were studied by means of scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, high resolution electron microscopy, electron diffraction and X-ray analysis. Our results indicate that the epitaxial growth of the new phases FeCr7S12 and FeCr8S12, both based on the NiAs structure, can essentially inhibit the growth of large FeCr2S4 spinel single crystals in the octahedral habit. The new phases are fully characterised and the effects of defect ordering in these new phases are also reported.  相似文献

In solution, the growth rate and the crystal habit are influenced by a number of factors such as supersaturation, temperature, pH of the solution, cooling rate, agitation, viscosity, initial state of the seed crystal and the presence of impurities. The crystallization of orthorhombic β‐MgSO4 · 7H2O, from low temperature aqueous solution by slow cooling process was studied. The metastable zone width, the induction periods (τ) for different supersaturations and the effect of pH on the growth rate of the crystals were investigated. The increase of pH yielded bigger crystals. The structural, optical, thermal and mechanical properties of β‐MgSO4 · 7H2O have been studied using FT‐IR, X‐ray diffraction, TGA‐DTG and micro hardness analyses.  相似文献

The habit of the organic non‐linear optical material meta‐nitroaniline (mNA) crystallized from different organic solvents such as acetone, benzene, ethyl acetate, n‐hexane, methanol and toluene were studied. Solubility of mNA in these solvents at various temperatures in the range between 288 and 323 K was determined by gravimetric method. Crystals were grown by restricted evaporation of solvents method. Solutions with different solvents having different chemical nature and polarity yielded crystals with different habits: one‐dimensional needles, two‐dimensional rhombic platelets and three‐dimensional octahedral. In addition, the mNA crystals show unidirectional growth behaviour along its polar [001] direction irrespective of the solvents used. All the grown crystals were found to be orthorhombic system with point group mm2 and space group Pbc21 which was confirmed by powder X‐ray diffraction study. Optical transmittance study showed that the grown mNA single crystals have optical transparency in the wavelength range between 430 and 1550 nm. Growth kinetics and characterization of calcium and strontium molybdate crystals grown in silica gel have been studied under a variety of parameters. The changes in nucleation characteristics, growth habit, quality of these crystals were carefully observed and are found directly related to pH of the medium. The profound influence of pH on spontaneous crystallization of CaMoO4 crystals has been carefully investigated; and its crystallization range has been determined. The wide morphological change of SrMoO4 with respect to pH variation has been studied. The quality of the crystals has been critically examined.  相似文献

Growth of the habit of a single seed and the special growth of splicing “parallel” seeds were investigated and compared with. Chemical etching and X-ray topography were used to characterize spliced KDP crystals. The kinetic data in different growth stages were measured. It is concluded that secondary capping is the most important stage in the splicing parallel-seed growth, and that the subgrain boundaries emitted from the secondary cap are parallel to or overlap with the splicing boundary and stretch to the prismatic surface about 45° to the z-axis, and that above the twin-crystal regions with subgrain boundaries the real monocrystalline region appears. The growth kinetics of the subgrain boundary approximately corresponds to the growth mechanism of single-spiral dislocation.  相似文献

The effect of concentration of Mn(II) ions on the growth habit and the surface micromorphology of different as‐grown faces of ammonium oxalate monohydrate (AO) single crystals grown from aqueous solutions was studied at a constant temperature of 30 °C and predefined supersaturations up to 20%. It was observed that the growth habit and the surface morphology of the crystals strongly depend on the supersaturation used for growth and the impurity concentration in the solution. The experimental results were analysed in terms of connected nets determined from different projections of the structure of AO crystals. Analysis of the observations revealed that: (1) the directions of connected nets corresponding to basic growth units composed of single (NH4)2C2O4 · H2O molecules are in excellent agreement with the low‐index crystallographic directions of the orientations of growth layers, (2) all faces appearing in the growth morphology of AO crystals are F faces, and (3) the {001} face growing from pure aqueous solutions is essentially a kinetically rough face but the presence of Mn(II) impurity leads to their appearance in the morphology due to increase in the strength of bonds of the connected nets composing the surface graph.  相似文献

Influence of Proteus mirabilis on the growth, morphology and size of struvite crystals in artificial urine has been studied. The growth in the presence of Proteus mirabilis shows formation of struvite crystals of more regular habits compared with that in the absence of bacteria. This implies that in the presence of Proteus mirabilis, struvite crystals grow with relative growth rates within smaller range of variability compared to the absence of bacteria. The results show that bacteria affect size and struvite morphology while the habit remains almost unchanged. It is suggested that the changes in struvite crystal morphology are induced by the presence of Proteus mirabilis. Microorganism's negatively charged residues interact electrostatically with positive ions which outcrop given surfaces and lead to an enhanced expression of these surfaces. This means that microorganisms actively mediate in growth processes. Therefore, the investigations provide evidence for the importance of biological regulation in crystallization process.  相似文献

It is shown that during crystallization urea forms mixed crystals, adsorption mixed crystals and epitaxial growth from aqueous solutions with NH4Cl. The extent of the formation of mixed crystals is fixed by the composition of the solution. The urea NH4Cl mixed crystals have the effect of morphological transformers on tracht and habit of the crystallized urea, so that advantages in technical application result concerning properties of transport and storage.  相似文献

The vaporisation-condensation scheme of urea has been investigated in the temperature region below the melting point, in order to establish the thermodynamic reactions on which the physical vapour transport (PVT) of urea is based. By making use of both reported data and experimental results of MS, DTA, DTG, and HPLC analysis, it was shown that PVT relevant reactions are basically molecular sublimation and partial decomposition in solid biuret and ammonia. MS analysis of urea crystals and source residues have also shown that no decomposition can be observed in the growing crystals, unless reheated during growth. The temperature dependence of the decomposition pressure has been found to be: log10PNH3 [torr] = 38 – 13840/T [K]. The use of this relation in diffusive mass transport calculations brought to linear growth rate values not in disagreement with the experimental values found in closed tube PVT grown crystals.  相似文献

TiS1.7 crystals have been grown by vapour transport technique employing a two-zone furnace with the temperatures of reaction and growth zone maintained at 1073 K and 973 K, respectively. We have measured the variation of electrical conductivity (s̀) with temperature (T) of TiS1.7 single crystals. It has been found that the conductivity increases at temperatures T > 433 K, which provides convincing evidence that the TiS1.7 crystal is a semiconductor. Another electronic characteristic of TiS1.7 crystals observed in the present investigation is the occurrence of voltage controlled negative resistance (VCNR) at a field of 32.1 V cm-1 to 35.7 V cm-1. All the polytypes of TiS1.7 were found to exhibit VCNR nearly at the same field which indicates that the VCNR is polytype independent property. The occurrence of VCNR has been explained on the intervally transfer of electrons in the conduction band.  相似文献

Gallium orthophosphate (GaPO4) single crystals have been grown from phosphoric acid solutions under hydrothermal conditions. The crystals have been studied in terms of twinning because of the strong effect of this structural defect on the piezoelectric properties. The growing of large single crystals of stearic acid (CH3(CH2)16COOH), one of the saturated fatty acids, from organic solutions is reported. There are two parts in this experimental investigation; (1) to clarify the relationship between polymorphism of stearic acid having three modifications, namely, the A-form (orthorhombic), the B- and C-forms (monoclinic) and the growth conditions in the case of solution growth, because this complicated relationship has apparently made it very difficult to obtain large single crystals, (2) to produce large single crystals of stearic acid under the optimum growth conditions according to part (1). As a result large single crystals of stearic acid more than 8 × 8 mm2 in area of the B- and C-modifications were successfully obtained. The values of long spacing, the crystal habit and the cleavage plane are also reported.  相似文献

Single crystals of the title compounds of optical quality and dimensions up to 30 × 25 × 25 mm were grown by the flux method. During the growth process the formation of twins consisting of bicrystals was observed, even in the case of single-crystalline seeds. The twinning boundaries could be detected by etching with hot KOH solutions. The following physical properties were investigated: refractive indices, dielectric constants, thermal expansion, piezoelectric, and electrooptic effects, elastic and thermoelastic constants. The crystals exhibit a quite similar behaviour. The anisotropy of all properties is quasi-tetragonal. In respect to polar properties only small differences within the mixed crystals KxRb1–xTiOPO4 are found. Replacement of P by As does only slightly affect the polar properties, whereas the replacement of Ti by Ge leads to a drastic reduction of polar effects.  相似文献

Experimental results of the dependence of linear growth rates of ammonium oxalate monohydrate [(NH4)2C2O4 · H2O; AO] single crystals on solution supersaturation are presented. The AO crystals were grown by constant-temperature, constant-supersaturation method at 30 and 40 °C in the supersaturation range of 1–9%. It was observed that the supersaturation dependence of growth rates follows the parabolic growth law. Analysis of the supersaturation dependence of linear growth rates of AO crystals showed (1) that growth models involving surface diffusion and direct incorporation of growth units give kinetic parameters similar to those reported for other compounds grown from solutions, and (2) that the the BCF model of cooperating screw dislocations is also applicable. An inverse relationship between the estimated values of the length, L, of the line containing the dislocations and growth rate, R, and a direct relationship between L and interplanar distance, dhkl, of the face {hkl} were found. Both these relationships are associated with the process of generation of screw dislocations in the growing layer.  相似文献

Nd3+‐doped Y3Al5O12 single crystals have been grown by the horizontal directional solidification (HDS) method in different thermal zone. The Grashof (Gr), Prandtl (Pr), Marangoni (Ma) and Rayleigh (Ra) numbers of melt in HDS system have been discussed for our experimental system to understand the mechanism of melt flow patterns and concentration gradient of dopant. The concentration gradient of Nd3+ ions was explained with melt flow processes during crystal growth in different thermal zone, and results indicated that high growth temperature will be helpful for uniformity of dopant in HDS‐grown single crystal. The main microscopic growth defects such as bubbles and irregular inclusions in HDS‐grown Nd:YAG crystals were observed, and the causes were discussed as well. (© 2012 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. The morphology, crystalline structure and crystal growth kinetics of melt‐crystallized thin isotactic polybutene‐1 films have been studied with transmission electron microscopy, electron diffraction and optical microscopy. It is demonstrated that a bypass of tetragonal phase crystallization and direct melt crystal growth of the trigonal phase can be achieved via self‐seeding at atmospheric pressure using solution‐grown trigonal crystals as nuclei. Electron microscopy and optical microscopy observations show that melt‐crystallized isotactic polybutene‐1 single crystals of the trigonal phase have rounded or hexagonal morphologies around 75°C. The growth rate of trigonal crystals in the melt has been obtained by in‐situ optical microscopy. The growth rate of trigonal crystals in the melt is 1/100 and 1/1000 that of tetragonal crystals in the melt around 70 and 90°C, respectively. (© 2007 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
