Reactions of tetrachlorodiborane(4) with fluoroolefins

Tetrachlorodiborane(4) reacts with trifluoroethylene to give dichloro-2,2- difluorovinylborane and both isomers of dichloro-2-chloro-2-fluorovinylborane. These compounds can be converted to the corresponding difluoro (halovinyl)boranes by treatment with SbF₃. Reaction of B₂Cl₄ with vinyl fluoride gives 1,1,2-tris(dichloroboryl)ethane. A facile halogen exchange with B₂Cl₄, was observed for a number of fluoroolefins, includin vinyl fluoride, 1,1-difluoroethylene, 2-fluoropropene, and 3,3,3-trifluoropropene. No reaction was observed with 2,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene.     

Reactions of 2-aminobenzothiazoles with phenyl glycidyl ether

In acidic media 2-aminobenzothiazole and its derivatives react with phenyl glycidyl ether at the ring nitrogen atom, while in alkaline media they react at the exocyclic nitrogen atom. Interaction of the lithium derivatives of carboranes with lanthanides chlorides

Carboranyl derivatives of lanthanides have been prepared by interaction of the lithium derivatives of carboranes with the salts LnCl₃ · nTHF (Ln = La, Tm, Yb). The influence of the ratio of the reagents, the type of metal and the nature of solvents on these reactions has been studied.

The interaction of (C₅H₅)₂Hg with activated Ln^o, where Ln  La, Sm, Eu, Tm, Yb, in THF was shown to give either divalent or trivalent cyclopentadienyl derivatives of these metals, depending on the reaction conditions and re-agents ratio.     

Reactions of heavier lanthanides with hydrazine in the presence of sulphur dioxide

Hydrazine hydrate reacts with sulphur dioxide in aqueous solution in the presence of heavier lanthanide(III) ions to give variety of complexes. The nature of product formed is highly pH dependent. Several hydrazine complexes of Ln(III) ions of the compositions Ln(N₂H₃SOO)₃(H₂O), Ln₂(SO₃)₃·2N₂H₄ and N₂H₅Ln(SO₃)₂(H₂O)₂ where Ln = Eu, Gd, Tb or Dy and the precursors for the hydrazinium lanthanide sulphite hydrates, the anhydrous lanthanide hydrazinecarboxylates, Ln(N₂H₃COO)₃ where Ln = Eu, Gd, Tb or Dy have been prepared and characterized by analytical, spectral, thermal and X-ray powder diffraction techniques. The infrared spectral data are in favour of the coordination of hydrazine and water molecules. These complexes decompose in three stages to yield respective oxides as final residue. The final residues were confirmed by their X-ray powder diffraction patterns and TG mass losses. The SEM photographs of some of the oxides show a lot of cracks indicating that large quantity of gases evolved during decomposition.     

Thienyl and perfluorophenyl derivatives of divalent lanthanides

The reaction of oxidative addition of -iodothiophene and bromopentafluorobenzene to zero-valent lanthanides has been carried out. The formation of organolanthanide derivatives RLnX (R = -C₄H₃S, C₆F₅) has been confirmed by isolation of the corresponding RSnPh₃ resulting from the interaction of RLnX with Ph₃SnCl. The reaction of lanthanide with C₆F₅Br is sensitive to the nature of the metal.     

Reactions of internal fluoroolefins with ethylenimine and properties of N-polyfluoroalkyl(alkenyl)-substituted aziridines

Conclusions Internal fluoroolefins readily react with ethylenimine, forming, depending on structure, addition products of vinyl substitution products. Action of mineral acids (HBr, HCl) on N-polyfluoroalkenylaziridines leads to N-polyfluoroalkenyl-N--haloethylamines. 3-(1-Aziridinyl) perfluoro-2-methyl-2-pentene isomerizes by the action of catalytic amounts of F^– or I^– ions into 2-perfluoroethyl-3,3-bis(trifluoromethyl)-1-pyrroline.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Seriya Khimicheskaya, No. 6, pp. 1352–1363, June, 1985.The authors wish to express their gratitude to A. Colorimetric detection of cyanide with phenyl thiourea derivatives

Three structurally simple thiourea derivatives 1-3 were prepared, and their chromogenic behaviors toward various anions were investigated in aqueous solution. Among them 1 showed good sensitivity and selectivity for cyanide ion and also can distinguish it from other anions by different color changes. Besides that, the receptor 1 has a sensitive detection limit (1.27 μM) for cyanide ion accordingly it can be used as a colorimetric sensor for the determination of cyanide ion. The use of the test strip of sensor 1 to detect cyanide ion was also reported.
