The diffraction of light beams by ultrasound with a two-dimensionally nonuniform, exponentially damped amplitude distribution in gyrotropic cubic crystals is investigated theoretically. An analytical model of strong acoustooptic interaction is constructed on the basis of self-consistent solutions of the vector-matrix partial differential equations for coupled waves written in the amplitudes of the light beam. The model can be used to determine the spatial profiles of the intensity and the polarization structure of the diffracted field for arbitrary diffraction efficiencies and geometries. An intermediate regime for the diffraction of light on ultrasound in gyrotropic anisotropic and cubic crystals in an external
electric field is considered. A system of equations of the coupled waves, which describes acoustooptic diffraction in gyrotropic
anisotropic crystals with consideration of the electrically induced optical anisotropy for a strong interaction between light
and ultrasound, is presented. An intermediate regime for the diffraction of light on ultrasound in gyrotropic anisotropic
crystals which is close to the Bragg regime for a weak acoustooptic interaction is studied. It is shown that the diffracted
light is elliptically polarized and that the ellipticity and polarization azimuth of the diffracted wave depend on the anisotropy
of the photoelasticity, the electrically induced anisotropy of the crystal in the external electric field, the gyrotropy,
and the asymmetry of the diffraction structure.

A theory has been developed to describe the propagation of planar wave beams in media with linear or nonlinear susceptibility modulated in the transverse and longitudinal directions. The diffraction in curved coupled waveguides and from wedge-shaped inhomogeneities is considered. Ray trajectories are found and the Schrödinger equation for the beam envelope is solved numerically. The spatial dynamics of energy redistribution in the beam cross section is described. Conditions for suppressing the beam spread due to the refractive index modulation are found. 相似文献

The propagation of electromagnetic waves in naturally (or structurally) gyrotropic inhomogeneous media is considered. A new mechanism of wave nonreciprocity is found, which is caused by the simultaneous presence of a gradient of one of the parameters of a medium and natural (or structural) gyrotropy. The problem of light transmission through a layer of a naturally gyrotropic inhomogeneous medium of finite thickness is solved by the method of addition of layers. Specific features of this nonreciprocity are considered. It is shown that such a system can operate as a one-sided reflector at certain angles of incidence of light. The mechanisms of enhancement of the nonreciprocity effects are investigated. It is shown that multiple reflections in a layer of finite thickness and diffraction of light by periodic inhomogeneities of a medium increase the nonreciprocity effects by several (from 2 to 5) orders of magnitude. This phenomenon, in turn, opens new fields of application of the nonreciprocity effects. Another interesting manifestation of wave nonreciprocity is revealed, which consists in asymmetry of the curve R(?):R(?)≠R(??) (R is the reflectance and ? is the angle of incidence). 相似文献

We have investigated Bragg diffraction of light beams by ultrasound in gyrotropic cubic crystals for strong acoustoopitc interaction. We have obtained analytical solutions of the vector-matrix coupled-wave equations in partial derivatives relative to the spatial distributions of the light beams and their angular spectra. We consider the asymptotic form of the solutions in different regimes and the diffraction efficiencies.
