Let d(σ) stand for the defining number of the colouring σ. In this paper we consider and for the onto χ-colourings γ of the circular complete graph Kn,d. In this regard we obtain a lower bound for dmin(Kn,d) and we also prove that this parameter is asymptotically equal to χ-1. Also, we show that when χ?4 and s≠0 then dmax(Kχd-s,d)=χ+2s-3, and, moreover, we prove an inequality relating this parameter to the circular chromatic number for any graph G.  相似文献

We show that any complete -partite graph on vertices, with , whose edges are two-coloured, can be covered with two vertex-disjoint monochromatic paths of distinct colours, given that the largest partition class of contains at most vertices. This extends known results for complete and complete bipartite graphs. Secondly, we show that in the same situation, all but vertices of the graph can be covered with two vertex-disjoint monochromatic cycles of distinct colours, if colourings close to a split colouring are excluded. From this we derive that the whole graph, if large enough, may be covered with 14 vertex-disjoint monochromatic cycles.  相似文献

An orthogonal double cover (ODC) of the complete graph Kn by a graph G is a collection G of n spanning subgraphs of Kn, all isomorphic to G, such that any two members of G share exactly one edge and every edge of Kn is contained in exactly two members of G. In the 1980s Hering posed the problem to decide the existence of an ODC for the case that G is an almost-Hamiltonian cycle, i.e. a cycle of length n-1. It is known that the existence of an ODC of Kn by a Hamiltonian path implies the existence of ODCs of K4n and of K16n, respectively, by almost-Hamiltonian cycles. Horton and Nonay introduced two-colorable ODCs and showed: If there are an ODC of Kn by a Hamiltonian path for some n?3 and a two-colorable ODC of Kq by a Hamiltonian path for some prime power q?5, then there is an ODC of Kqn by a Hamiltonian path. In [U. Leck, A class of 2-colorable orthogonal double covers of complete graphs by hamiltonian paths, Graphs Combin. 18 (2002) 155-167], two-colorable ODCs of Kn and K2n, respectively, by Hamiltonian paths were constructed for all odd square numbers n?9. Here we continue this work and construct cyclic two-colorable ODCs of Kn and K2n, respectively, by Hamiltonian paths for all n of the form n=4k2+1 or n=(k2+1)/2 for some integer k.  相似文献

An (h,s,t)-representation of a graph G consists of a collection of subtrees of a tree T, where each subtree corresponds to a vertex in G, such that (i) the maximum degree of T is at most h, (ii) every subtree has maximum degree at most s, (iii) there is an edge between two vertices in the graph G if and only if the corresponding subtrees have at least t vertices in common in T. The class of graphs that have an (h,s,t)-representation is denoted by [h,s,t]. It is well known that the class of chordal graphs corresponds to the class [3, 3, 1]. Moreover, it was proved by Jamison and Mulder that chordal graphs correspond to orthodox-[3, 3, 1] graphs defined below.In this paper, we investigate the class of [h,2,t] graphs, i.e., the intersection graphs of paths in a tree. The [h,2,1] graphs are also known as path graphs [F. Gavril, A recognition algorithm for the intersection graphs of paths in trees, Discrete Math. 23 (1978) 211-227] or VPT graphs [M.C. Golumbic, R.E. Jamison, Edge and vertex intersection of paths in a tree, Discrete Math. 55 (1985) 151-159], and [h,2,2] graphs are known as the EPT graphs. We consider variations of [h,2,t] by three main parameters: h, t and whether the graph has an orthodox representation. We give the complete hierarchy of relationships between the classes of weakly chordal, chordal, [h,2,t] and orthodox-[h,2,t] graphs for varied values of h and t.  相似文献

We show that the problem raised by Boesch, Suffel, and Tindell of determining whether or not a graph is spanned by an Eulerian subgraph is NP-complete. We generalize all the results obtained for maximum integer multiflow and minimum multicut problems in trees by Garg, Vazirani and Yannakakis [N. Garg, V.V. Vazirani, M. Yannakakis, Primal-dual approximation algorithms for integral flow and multicut in trees, Algorithmica 18 (1997) 3–20] to graphs with a fixed cyclomatic number, while this cannot be achieved for other classical generalizations of trees. We also introduce thek-edge-outerplanar graphs, a class of planar graphs with arbitrary (but bounded) tree-width that generalizes the cacti, and show that the integrality gap of the maximum edge-disjoint paths problem is bounded in these graphs.  相似文献
