Passive mode-locking of a pulsed Nd:YAG laser using a Cr4+:YAG saturable absorber was realized for the first time in a nearly critical stable resonator containing an antiresonant ring structure. The output energy and pulse duration are 13.5 mJ and 180 ps, respectively. The recovery time and saturable intensity for excited-state absorption of Cr4+:YAG under the action of strong laser pulses were calculated from rate equations.  相似文献

By using a piece of codoped Nd3+:Cr4+:YAG crystal as a saturable absorber, a laser-diode pumped passively Q-switched Nd:YVO4/YVO4 laser has been realized. The maximum laser output power of 2.452 W has been obtained at the incident pump power of 8.9 W for an 8.8% transmission of the output coupler at 1064 nm, corresponding to a slope efficiency of 30%. The other output laser characteristics of the laser have also been investigated. The laser with a Nd3+:Cr4+:YAG saturable absorber has a lower threshold pump power and a higher slope efficiency compared to that with a similar small-signal transmission of a Cr4+:YAG saturable absorber.  相似文献

This paper reported a passively Q-switched green laser of LD pumped linear cavity structure by using Nd:YAG/Cr4+:YAG composite crystal and the type II phase matching KTP crystal. The dependence of average output power, pulse width and pulse repetition rate on pump power at different initial transmissions of Cr4+:YAG were measured and analyzed. With Cr4+:YAG of 80% initial transmission, under pump power of 13.97 W, the output average power is up to 681 mW, with pulse width of 200 ns and pulse repetition rate of 9.1 kHz. The laser operates in a fundamental mode.  相似文献

By considering the Gaussian spatial distributions of the intracavity photon density and the initial population-inversion density, the coupled rate equations for a diode-pumped passively Q-switched and mode-locked (QML) laser with Cr4+:YAG saturable absorber are given. These coupled rate equations are solved numerically and the key parameters of an optimally coupled passively QML laser are determined for the first time. These key parameters include the parameters of the gain medium, the saturable absorber and the resonator, which can maximize the pulse energy of singly Q-switched envelope. The optimal calculations for a diode-pumped passively QML Nd:GdVO4 laser with Cr4+:YAG saturable absorber are presented to demonstrate the numerical simulation applicable.  相似文献

Nd3+:NaY(WO4)2, known as Nd:NYW, is a new type crystal. By using laser-diode as pump source, a passive Q-switching of intracavity-frequency-doubling Nd:NYW/KTP laser has been realized with Cr4+:YAG saturable absorber. The dependence of pulse repetition rate, pulse energy, pulse width, and peak power on incident pump power for different small-signal transmissions of Cr4+:YAG are measured. The coupled rate equations are used to simulate the Q-switched process of laser, and the numerical solutions agree with the experimental results.  相似文献

A continuous-wave (CW) laser-diode (LD) pumped passively Q-switched intra-cavity frequency-doubling green laser is reported in this paper. We used 3% at Nd doped YVO4 as gain medium, Cr4+:YAG as a saturable absorber for passively Q-switch and periodically poled LiNbO3 (PPLN) as a frequency doubler. The output energy of the green laser is 1.96 μJ with the pulse-width of 15.6 ns. No green-noise problem exists in the green laser. Some theoretical results on the passive Q-switching and intra-cavity frequency-doubling are also discussed.  相似文献

Cr4+ : YAG crystal was used as a saturable absorber in an active–passive mode-locked Nd : YAG laser. The stable and complete mode-locked pulse train was achieved at 1064 nm. The duration of a single pulse was obtained from 0.8 to 2.4 ns by changing the Cr4+ : YAG crystal with different initial transmission, when there was the shortest pulse width. The mode-locking dynamic process of Cr4+ : YAG crystal was analyzed by the rate equations to explain the experimental result, and the effect of excited-state absorption was considered.  相似文献

A diode pumped Nd:Y0.5Lu0.5VO4 pulse laser modulated with an acousto-optic (AO) Q-switcher and Cr4+:YAG saturable absorber is first demonstrated in this paper. The laser is shown to generate shorter pulse width than AO Q-switched laser alone, and have a higher peak power and single pulse energy than passively Q-switched laser with only Cr4+:YAG. A laser pulse width of 6.16 ns and a peak power of about 43.83 kW are achieved at the incident pumping power of 14.09 W.  相似文献

Compared with a single passively Q-switched laser, a double passively Q-switched laser with a GaAs saturable absorber and a Cr4+-doped saturable absorber can produce more symmetric and shorter pulses with high pulse peak power. New normalized coupled rate equations for a double passively Q-switched laser with both a GaAs saturable absorber and a Cr4+-doped saturable absorber are solved numerically, where the single-photon absorption (SPA) and two-photon absorption (TPA) processes of GaAs are combined. The Gaussian spatial distributions of the intracavity photon density and the initial population-inversion density are considered. The optimization of a double passively Q-switched laser to obtain the shortest pulse width is performed, and a group of general curves are generated for the first time. The curves clearly show the dependence of the optimal normalized parameters on the parameters of the gain medium, the GaAs saturable absorber, the Cr4+-doped saturable absorber and the spatial distributions of the intracavity photon density. Sample calculations for a diode-pumped Nd3+:YVO4 laser with both a GaAs saturable absorber and a Cr4+:YAG saturable absorber are presented to demonstrate the use of the curves and the related formulas.  相似文献

Simultaneous Q-switching and mode-locking in a laser-diode end-pumped intracavity frequency doubled Nd:YVO4/KTP green laser using Cr4+:YAG saturable absorber is experimentally demonstrated. The influence of the initial transmission (T0) of the Cr4+:YAG crystal on the Q-switched mode-locked green pulses as well as on the average green power is characterized by using Cr4+:YAG crystal with various T0. The effect of T0 on the pulse build-up time in intracavity second harmonic configuration is theoretically investigated. It was found that the depth of modulation for the mode-locked pulses is greatly improved at the second harmonic wavelength as compared to that for the fundamental wavelength. The average pulse duration of the individual mode-locked pulse for the second harmonic beam measured to be less than 500 ps with a repetition rate of 400 MHz.  相似文献

A quasi-continuous wave laser diode side-pumped passively Q-switched Yb:YAG slab laser with Cr4+:YAG saturable absorber has been demonstrated in order to understand the pulse properties of Yb:YAG crystal. To our knowledge the maximum 69% extraction efficiency is achieved by the system. 44 μJ pulse energy and 1.64 KW peak power with near diffraction-limited beam quality are presented at 25 Hz repetition rate. The build-up time of the Q-giant in the passively Q-switched laser is shown.  相似文献

By considering the Gaussian spatial distributions of the intracavity photon density and the initial population-inversion density, the coupled rate equations for a diode-pumped passively Q-switched laser with V3+:YAG saturable absorber are given. These coupled rate equations are solved numerically and the key parameters of an optimally coupled passively Q-switched laser with V3+:YAG at 1342 nm are determined. These key parameters include the parameters of the gain medium, the saturable absorber and the resonator, which can maximize the pulse energy of singly Q-switched pulse. The optimal calculations for a diode-pumped passively Q-switched a-Nd:GdVO4 laser with V3+:YAG saturable absorber are presented to demonstrate the numerical simulation applicable.  相似文献

A diode-end-pumped Nd:YAG laser is passively Q-switched by using Cr4+:YAG as saturable absorber. When CW pumped with a laser diode which the maximum power is 550 mW, the laser produces pulses of 24 ns duration at 1064 nm, with an energy of 26 μJ.  相似文献

We report on laser-diode pumped low-threshold, and compact passively Q-switched Yb:YAG microchip lasers, with Cr4+:YAG crystals as the saturable absorbers. The laser threshold at the fundamental wavelength of 1.03 μm is as low as 0.25 W, and the slope efficiency is as high as 36.8%, and the optical-to-optical efficiency is as high as 27% for the 95% initial transmission of the Cr4+:YAG crystal. A pulse width of 1.35 ns and peak power of over 8.2 kW was obtained. Using a 5 mm thick KTP crystal as the second-harmonic generation medium, 514.7 nm green light of 155 mW power was generated. The pulse duration of 480 ps was generated at 1.03 μm by using 85% of the initial transmission of the Cr4+:YAG saturable absorber. Stable single-longitudinal-mode oscillation and wide-separated multi-longitudinal-mode oscillation due to the etalon effect of the Cr4+:YAG thin plate was achieved at different pump power levels. By simultaneously using both V3+:YAG and Co:LMA saturable absorbers in the cavity, a diode-pumped doubly passively Q-switched c-cut Nd:GdVO4 laser at 1.34 μm is demonstrated for the first time. The average output power, the pulse width and the pulse repetition rate have been measured. The experimental results show that the doubly passively Q-switched laser can generate shorter pulse width with higher peak power in comparison to the singly passively Q-switched laser only with V3+:YAG or Co:LMA saturable absorber. At the pump power 13 W, the pulse width has been compressed 83% and the peak power has been improved 15 times, respectively.  相似文献

This work describes the experimental results obtained on the Cr4+:YAG crystal used as a passive Q-switch in Nd: YAG lasers. In addition, the combination of a Cr4+: YAG passive Q-switch with an acousto-optical Q-switch operating simultaneously in one cavity was investigated. More than 180 W average output in the passive Q-switched mode was obtained with the C4+: YAG crystal. The pulse-to-pulse stability was better than 1%. A mode selection occurred when the laser system operated near threshold.  相似文献

A compact diode-pumped passively Q-switched intracavity frequency-doubled Nd:GdVO4/KTP green-pulse laser was demonstrated, using Cr4+:YAG as a saturable absorber in a simple flat–flat cavity. With a 5.9 W incident pump power, a passively Q-switched green laser was obtained with an average power of 397 mW, repetition rate of 40 kHz, and pulse width of 40 ns, when the initial transmission of Cr4+:YAG was 85%. The shortest pulse width of 30 ns, the highest green peak power of 696 W and the maximum pulse energy of 21 μJ were obtained when the initial transmission of Cr4+:YAG was 70%. Under CW green operation, we obtained 440 mW output power.  相似文献

A high power diode-end-pumped passively Q-switched and mode-locking (QML) Nd:GdVO4 laser at 912 nm was demonstrated for the first time, to the best of our knowledge. A Z-type laser cavity with Cr4+:YAG crystals as the intracavity saturable absorber were employed in the experiments. Influence of the initial transmission (TU) of the saturable absorber on the QML laser performance was investigated. Using the TU = 95% Cr4+:YAG, as much as an average output power of 2.0 W pulsed 912 nm laser was produced at an absorbed pump power of 25.0 W, then the repetition rates of the Q-switched envelope and the mode-locking pulse were ~ 224 kHz and ~ 160 MHz, respectively. Whereas the maximum output power was reduced to 1.3 W using the TU = 90% Cr4+:YAG, we obtained a 100% modulation depth for the mode-locking pulses inside the Q-switched envelope.  相似文献

We first report a tunable repetition frequency passively Q-switched 2053 nm Tm,Ho:YLF laser by tuning the tilt angle of the Cr:ZnS saturable absorber. When the pump power is 1.4 W, the pulse repetition frequency can be tuned from 1.6 to 19.4 kHz by changing the position of Cr2+:ZnS saturable absorber along the cavity axis. When the Cr2+:ZnS saturable absorber is near the Tm,Ho:YLF crystal, the repetition frequency can be tuned from 0.8 to 4.0 kHz by changing the tilt angle of the Cr2+:ZnS saturable absorber, furthermore, the pulse width and the pulse energy are near constants of 1.7 μs and 3.5 μJ, respectively.  相似文献

A passively Q-switched intracavity optical parametric oscillator based on KTiOAsO4 (KTA) crystal is studied theoretically and experimentally. The rate-equation-based theoretical model is established to describe the time evolutions of the population inversion density of the laser crystal, ground-state population density of the saturable absorber, fundamental photon density, signal photon density and the idler photon density. In the experiment, a laser diode-end pumped, passively Q-switched Nd:YAG/KTA IOPO with a Cr4+:YAG crystal as the saturable absorber is realized to verify this model. The characteristics including the output power, the pulse repetition rate, the pulse width and the beam quality were investigated for this OPO. The experimental results for the output power and the repetition rate agree with the theory well. And both results show that with same pumping level the idler pulse width is shorter than the signal one.  相似文献
