We calculate the temperature dependence of the NMR relaxation rate and electrical resistivity for coupling to a local, strongly anharmonic phonon mode. We argue that the two-phonon Raman process is dominating NMR relaxation. Due to the strong anharmonicity of the phonon an unusual temperature dependence is found having a low temperature peak and becoming constant towards higher temperatures. The electrical resistivity is found to vary like T2 at low temperatures and following a square root T behavior at high temperatures. Both results are in qualitative agreement with recent observations on beta-pyrochlore oxide superconductors.  相似文献

The dynamics of (3)He atoms in solid (4)He have been investigated by measuring the NMR relaxation times T(1) and T(2) in the region where a significant nonclassical rotational inertia fraction has been reported. For (3)He concentrations x(3)=16 and 24 ppm, changes are observed for both the spin-lattice relaxation time T(1) and the spin-spin relaxation time T(2) at the temperatures corresponding to the onset of the nonclassical rotational inertia fraction and, at lower temperatures, to the (3)He-(4)He phase separation. The magnitudes of T(1) and T(2) at temperatures above the phase separation agree roughly with existing theory based on the tunneling of (3)He impurities in the elastic strain field due to isotopic mismatch. However, a distinct peak in T(1) and a less well-resolved feature in T(2) are observed near the reported nonclassical rotational inertia fraction onset temperature, in contrast to the temperature-independent relaxation times predicted by the tunneling theory.  相似文献

Spin-lattice relaxation times T1 and T1d as well as NMR second moment were employed to study molecular dynamics of pyridoxine (vitamin B6) in the temperature range 10-350 K. The T1 minimum observed at low temperatures at 200 MHz is attributed to a motion of methyl group. The motion is interpreted in terms of Haupt's theory, which takes into account the tunneling assisted relaxation. At low temperatures, where T1 is temperature independent, occupation of the ground state only is assumed. A motion of proton of the hydroxyl groups or CH2OH groups probably provides additional mechanism of relaxation, in the high-temperature region.  相似文献

Proton spin lattice relaxation time ( T 1 ) measurements have been carried out in methylammonium trichloro stannate(II) (CH 3 NH 3 SnCl 3 ) as a function of temperature in the range 317-5 K at a Larmor frequency of 10 MHz. The temperature dependence of T 1 shows a phase transition around 220 K and four T 1 minima (294 K, 62 K, 32 K and 12 K). The results are discussed in terms of proton dynamics, namely, uncorrelated reorientation of NH 3 and CH 3 groups at high temperatures and tunnelling of NH 3 and CH 3 protons at low temperatures.  相似文献

Electron spin relaxation times of a Nycomed triarylmethyl radical (sym-trityl) in water, 1:1 water:glycerol, and 1:9 water:glycerol were measured at L-band, S-band, and X-band by pulsed EPR methods. In H(2)O solution, T(1) is 17+/-1 micros at X-band at ambient temperature, is nearly independent of microwave frequency, and exhibits little dependence on viscosity. The temperature dependence of T(1) in 1:1 water:glycerol is characteristic of domination by a Raman process between 20 and 80 K. The increased spin-lattice relaxation rates at higher temperatures, including room temperature, are attributed to a local vibrational mode that modulates spin-orbit coupling. In H(2)O solution, T(2) is 11+/-1 micros at X-band, increasing to 13+/-1 micros at L-band. For more viscous solvent mixtures, T(2) is much shorter than T(1) and weakly frequency dependent, which indicates that incomplete motional averaging of hyperfine anisotropy makes a significant contribution to T(2). In water and 1:1 water:glycerol solutions continuous wave EPR linewidths are not relaxation determined, but become relaxation determined in the higher viscosity 1:9 water:glycerol solutions. The Lorentzian component of the 250-MHz linewidths as a function of viscosity is in good agreement with T(2)-determined contributions to the linewidths at higher frequencies.  相似文献

Electron spin-lattice relaxation rates, 1/T1, at X-band of nitroxyl radicals (4-hydroxy-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidin-1-oxyl, 4-oxo-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidin-1-oxyl, 3-carbamoyl-2,2,5,5-tetramethylpyrrolidin-1-oxyl and 3-carbamoyl-2,2,5,5-tetramethylpyrrolin-1-oxyl) in glass-forming solvents (decalin, glycerol, 3-methylpentane, o-terphenyl, 1-propanol, sorbitol, sucrose octaacetate, and 1:1 water:glycerol) at temperatures between 100 and 300K were measured by long-pulse saturation recovery to investigate the relaxation processes in slow-to-fast tumbling regimes. A subset of samples was also studied at lower temperatures or at Q-band. Tumbling correlation times were calculated from continuous wave lineshapes. Temperature dependence and isotope substitution (2H and 15N) were used to distinguish the contributions of various processes. Below about 100K relaxation is dominated by the Raman process. At higher temperatures, but below the glass transition temperature, a local mode process makes significant contributions. Above the glass transition temperature, increased rates of molecular tumbling modulate nuclear hyperfine and g anisotropy. The contribution from spin rotation is very small. Relaxation rates at X-band and Q-band are similar. The dependence of 1/T1 on tumbling correlation times fits better with the Cole-Davidson spectral density function than with the Bloembergen-Purcell-Pound model.  相似文献

Conventional relaxation parameters (T1(-1), T2(-1), and NOE), obtained at different temperatures and magnetic fields, are reported for the hydroxymethyl (C6) carbon in methyl-beta-D-glucopyranoside in a D2O/DMSO cryosolvent. These data are interpreted with the Lipari-Szabo model. In addition, two-field measurements of longitudinal and spin-locked relaxation rates related to the cross-correlated carbon-proton dipole-dipole interactions for the same carbon are reported. The complete data set consisting the conventional and cross-correlated relaxation parameters is interpreted using a new "hybrid" approach, in which the Lipari-Szabo model for the auto-correlated spectral densities is combined with the two-site jump model for the cross-correlated spectral densities, with the global correlation time as a common parameter. The two-site jump rates thus obtained are in reasonable agreement with the ultrasonic relaxation measurements, and have reasonable temperature dependence.  相似文献

Femtosecond pump-probe studies show that carrier dynamics in MgB2 films is governed by the sub-ps electron-phonon (e-ph) relaxation present at all temperatures, the few-ps e-ph process well pronounced below 70 K, and the sub-ns superconducting relaxation below T(c). The amplitude of the superconducting component versus temperature follows the superposition of the isotropic dirty gap and the three-dimensional pi gap dependences, closing at two different T(c) values. The time constant of the few-ps relaxation exhibits a double divergence at temperatures corresponding to the T(c)'s of the two gaps.  相似文献

Dielectric spectroscopy data over the range 100 MHz–40 GHz allow for a reliable analysis of two of the major relaxation phenomena for polyelectrolytes (PE) in water. Within this range, the dielectric relaxation of pure water is dominated by a near-Debye process at ν = 18.5 GHz corresponding to a relaxation time of τ = 8.4 ps at 25?°C. This mode is commonly attributed to the cooperative relaxation specific to liquids forming a hydrogen bond network (HBN) and arising from long range H-bond-mediated dipole–dipole interactions. The presence of charged polymers in water partially modifies the dielectric characteristics of the orientational water molecule relaxation due to a change of the dielectric constant of water surrounding the charges on the polyion chain. We report experimental results on the effect of the presence of a standard flexible polyelectrolyte (sodium polyacrylate) on the HBN relaxation in water for different temperatures, showing that the HBN relaxation time does not change by increasing the polyelectrolyte density in water, even if relatively high concentrations are reached (0.02 monomol l(?1) ≤ C ≤ 0.4 monomol l(?1)). We also find that the effect of PE addition on the HBN relaxation is not even a broadening of its distribution, rather a decrease of the spectral weight that goes beyond the pure volume fraction effect. This extra decrease is larger at low T and less evident at high T, supporting the idea that the correlation length of the water is less affected by the presence of charged flexible chains at high temperatures.  相似文献

The temperature dependences of nuclear magnetization and relaxation rates are reviewed theoretically and experimentally in order to quantify the effects of temperature on NMR signals acquired by common imaging techniques. Using common sequences, the temperature dependences of the equilibrium nuclear magnetization and relaxation times must each be considered to fully understand the effects of temperature on NMR images. The temperature dependence of the equilibrium nuclear magnetization is negative because of Boltzmann's distribution for all substances at all temperatures, but the combined temperature dependences of the equilibrium magnetization and relaxation can be negative, weak or positive depending on the temperature (T), echo time (T(E)), repetition time (T(R)), and the temperature dependences of the relaxation times T(1)(T) and T(2)(T) in a pulse sequence. As a result, the magnitude of the NMR signal from a given substance can decrease, increase or stay somewhat constant with increasing temperature. Nuclear thermal coefficients are defined and predictions for spin echo and other simple sequences are verified experimentally using a number of substances representing various thermal and NMR properties.  相似文献

We report nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) studies on the chain Cu sites of PrBa2Cu4O8, a quasi-one-dimensional conductor with a nearly quarter-filled band. The nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T1 shows a pronounced peak near 100 K caused by fluctuations of electric field gradient. Similar peak was observed for the spin-echo decay rate 1/T2, however, at a different temperature near 50 K. These results and broadening of the NQR spectrum at low temperatures indicate that slow charge fluctuations of either electronic or ionic origin freeze gradually at low temperatures.  相似文献

Spin-lattice NMR relaxation times T1 in the laboratory frame and T1rho(off) as well as T1rho(off) in the rotating frame off-resonance were employed to the study of molecular dynamics of both pristine PPS and thermally treated poly(p-phenylene sulfide) (PPS). The temperature dependence of T1 was exponential in the whole temperature range studied, whereas T1rho only in low temperatures. In the high temperature range the distribution of relaxation times T1rho and correlation times tau(c) as well as activation energy Ea was observed. The distribution of activation energy determined from T1 minima at 15 and 30 MHz and from low temperature slopes of T1rho dependence as well as from spectral density functions (estimated from proton off-resonance technique) was attributed to the reorientation of phenylene groups around the sulfur-phenyl-sulfur axis in amorphous and crystalline phases of PPS. Furthermore, it is suggested that an additional relaxation mechanism related to interactions of protons with paramagnetic centers is operative in a low temperature range. After thermal treatment of PPS the low temperature minima disappeared and the relaxation times shortened in the low temperature regime. Both these facts were attributed to an increased contribution of spin diffusion in the relaxation process.  相似文献

Proton spin-lattice relaxation time and second moment of polycrystalline [4-NH2C5H4NH][SbCl4] have been determined at 160-400 K, at 90 and 25 MHz. The temperature dependence of the second moment indicates that the cation is in the "frozen" state over that temperature range, while at higher temperatures it oscillates at an angle of 135 degrees to the pseudo-six-fold axis of the aromatic ring. Weak influence of different phase transitions on the temperature dependences of relaxation times T1 and T1D can be explained in terms of molecular dynamics.  相似文献

Using X-band pulsed electron-spin resonance, we report the intrinsic spin-lattice (T1) and phase-coherence (T2) relaxation times in molecular nanomagnets for the first time. In Cr7M heterometallic wheels, with M=Ni and Mn, phase-coherence relaxation is dominated by the coupling of the electron spin to protons within the molecule. In deuterated samples T2 reaches 3 micros at low temperatures, which is several orders of magnitude longer than the duration of spin manipulations, satisfying a prerequisite for the deployment of molecular nanomagnets in quantum information applications.  相似文献

We report the results of 7Li nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) studies of LiVGe2O6, a quasi-one-dimensional spin S = 1 model system, at low temperatures. Our data, including NMR spectra and the temperature dependence of the spin-lattice relaxation rate T-11, indicate that a first-order phase transition occurs at T(c) approximately 23 K. The NMR response of LiVGe2O6 below T(c) suggests that the ordered phase is antiferromagnetic and has unusual features. Possible reasons for this unexpected behavior are discussed.  相似文献

Asymmetries in the manifold of spinning sidebands (ssbs) from the satellite transitions have been observed in variable-temperature 27Al MAS NMR spectra of alum (KAl(SO4)2.12H2O), recorded in the temperature range from -76 to 92 degrees C. The asymmetries decrease with increasing temperature and reflect the fact that the ssbs exhibit systematically different linewidths for different spectral regions of the manifold. From spin-echo 27Al NMR experiments on a single-crystal of alum, it is demonstrated that these variations in linewidth originate from differences in transverse (T2) relaxation times for the two inner (m=1/2<-->m=3/2 and m=-1/2<-->m=-3/2) and correspondingly for the two outer (m=3/2<-->m=5/2 and m=-3/2<-->m=-5/2) satellite transitions. T2 relaxation times in the range 0.5-3.5 ms are observed for the individual satellite transitions at -50 degrees C and 7.05 T, whereas the corresponding T1 relaxation times, determined from similar saturation-recovery 27Al NMR experiments, are almost constant (T1=0.07-0.10 s) for the individual satellite transitions. The variation in T2 values for the individual 27Al satellite transitions for alum is justified by a simple theoretical approach which considers the cross-correlation of the local fluctuating fields from the quadrupolar coupling and the heteronuclear (27Al-1H) dipolar interaction on the T2 relaxation times for the individual transitions. This approach and the observed differences in T2 values indicate that a single random motional process modulates both the quadrupolar and heteronuclear dipolar interactions for 27Al in alum at low temperatures.  相似文献

Using broad band dielectric spectroscopy (10(-5)-10(9) Hz), combining time domain and frequency domain techniques, we study the temperature dependence of the non-Debye character of the alpha relaxation of polymer melts in the glass transition temperature T(g) range. The alpha relaxation process is described in terms of the Kohlrausch-Williams-Watts relaxation function which has a single parameter beta to characterize the nonexponentiality of the relaxation. At high temperatures, beta remains nearly insensitive to temperature changes, whereas in the vicinity of T(g) a nearly linear increasing of beta with temperature is found. The temperature range where the change of the beta(T) behavior occurs is located for all the polymers investigated around 1.2T(g). Moreover, our results indicate a common value of beta approximately equal to 1/3 at the temperature where the relaxation time diverges. The beta(T) behavior near T(g) is discussed in terms of a "rugged landscape" phase space which allows us to rationalize both the beta(T) behavior observed as well as the similarities of our findings near T(g) with the results reported in simulations on Ising spin glasses and other model systems.  相似文献

The theoretical basis behind a recent quantitative analysis of 17O exchange in ZrW2O8 [M.R. Hampson, J.S.O. Evans, P. Hodgkinson, J. Am. Chem. Soc. 127 (2005) 15175-15181] is set out. Despite the complexities of combining the multi-exponential relaxation of half-integer quadrupolar nuclei with chemical exchange, it is shown how magnetisation transfer experiments can be analysed to obtain estimates of absolute exchange rates. The multi-exponential relaxation is best modelled using a magnetic mechanism, i.e. the rapid T1 relaxation observed, particularly at high temperatures, can be directly related to the relatively high degree of 17O labelling employed. The combination of the 1D EXSY results with T1 values as a function of temperature provides exchange rates and activation barriers over a wide temperature range (40-226 degrees C).  相似文献

We use nanohole relaxation to study the surface relaxation of films of glassy isotactic poly (methyl methacrylate) (i-PMMA) films. These measurements allow us to obtain the time dependent relaxation function at a number of different sample temperatures for the first 2-3 nm of the free surface in a system often used as a model system for the effect of the substrate on thin film dynamics. The surface is observed to relax at temperatures up to 42 K below the bulk Tg value, even on systems where the thin film Tg is known to be greater than the bulk value. We are able to determine the range over which the substrate directly affects the free surface relaxation, and determine a surprisingly large (Mw independent) limiting thickness of approximately 180 nm where the free surface relaxation is not affected by the substrate. For thick films (h>200 nm) we find an unexpected linear Mw dependence of the near surface relaxation time.  相似文献
