This is a study of the dual space of continuous linear functionals on the function space Cps(X) with a natural norm inherited from a larger Banach space. Here ps denotes the pseudocompact-open topology on C(X), the set of all real-valued continuous functions on a Tychonoff space X. The lattice structure and completeness of this dual space have been studied. Since this dual space is inherently related to a space of measures, the measure-theoretic characterization of this dual space has been studied extensively. Due to this characterization, a special kind of topological space, called pz-space, has been studied. Finally the separability of this dual space has been studied.   相似文献

In this paper we study very smooth points of Banach spaces with special emphasis on spaces of operators. We show that when the space of compact operators is anM-ideal in the space of bounded operators, a very smooth operatorT attains its norm at a unique vectorx (up to a constant multiple) andT(x) is a very smooth point of the range space. We show that if for every equivalent norm on a Banach space, the dual unit ball has a very smooth point then the space has the Radon-Nikodym property. We give an example of a smooth Banach space without any very smooth points.  相似文献

It is shown that a flag-transitive C 3-geometry of finite order (x, y) with x2 is either a finite building of type C 3 (and hence the classical polar space for a 6-dimensional symplectic space, a 6-dimensional orthogonal space of plus type, a 6- or 7-dimensional hermitian space, a 7-dimensional orthogonal space, or an 8-dimensional orthogonal space of minus type) or the sporadic A 7-geometry with 7 points.  相似文献

A subspace If(X) of the space of idempotent probability measures on a given compact space X is constructed. It is proved that if the initial compact space X is contractible, then If(X) is a contractible compact space as well. It is shown that the shapes of the compact spaces X and If(X) are equal. It is also proved that, given a compact space X, the compact space If(X) is an absolute neighborhood retract if and only if so is X.

In this paper, we study the extension of isometries between the unit spheres of normed space E and C(Ω). We obtain that any surjective isometry between the unit spheres of normed space E and C(Ω) can be extended to be a linear isometry on the whole space E and give an affirmative answer to the corresponding Tingley's problem (where Ω be a compact metric space).  相似文献

We prove that a Banach space is reflexive if for every equivalent norm, the set of norm attaining functionals has non-empty norm-interior in the dual space. Given a vector measure ν with values in a Banach space X, we consider the space L1(ν) of real functions which are integrable with respect to ν. We prove that every order continuous Banach function space Y continuously contained in L1(ν) is generated via a certain positive map related to ν and defined on X* x M, where X* is the dual space of X and M the space of measurable functions. This procedure provides a way of defining Orlicz spaces with respect to the vector measure ν.  相似文献

In the first two sections, we study when a σ-compact space can be covered by a point-finite family of compacta. The main result in this direction concerns topological vector spaces. Theorem 2.4 implies that if such a space L admits a countable point-finite cover by compacta, then L has a countable network. It follows that if f is a continuous mapping of a σ-compact locally compact space X onto a topological vector space L, and fibers of f are compact, then L is a σ-compact space with a countable network (Theorem 2.10). Therefore, certain σ-compact topological vector spaces do not have a stronger σ-compact locally compact topology.In the last, third section, we establish a result going in the orthogonal direction: if a compact Hausdorff space X is the union of two subspaces which are homeomorphic to topological vector spaces, then X is metrizable (Corollary 3.2).  相似文献

In this paper, we study composition operators on a Banach space of analytic functions, denoted byX, which includes the Bloch space. This space arises naturally as the dual space of analytic functions in the Bergman spaceL α 1 (D) which admit an atomic decomposition. We characterize the functions which induce compact composition operators and those which induce Fredholm operatorson this space. We also investigate when a composition operator has a closed range. We consider equidistant discrete splines S(j)S(j), j ? \mathbbZj\in\mathbb{Z}, which may grow as O(|j|s)O(|j|^s) as |j|?¥|j|\to\infty. Such splines present a relevant tool for digital signal processing. The Zak transforms of B-splines yield the integral representation of discrete splines. We define the wavelet space as a weak orthogonal complement of the coarse-grid space in the fine-grid space. We establish the integral representation of the elements of the wavelet space. We define and characterize the wavelets whose shifts form bases of the wavelet space. By this means we design a wide library of bases for the space of discrete-time signals of power growth and construct multiscale representation of this space. We provide formulas for processing such the signals by discrete spline wavelets. Constructed bases are at the same time the Riesz bases for the space l2l_2.  相似文献

An f-ring A is an SV f-ring if for every minimal prime ?-ideal P of A, A/P is a valuation domain. A topological space X is an SV space if C(X) is an SV f-ring. For normal spaces, several conditions are shown to guarantee the space is an SV space. For example, a normal space of finite rank for which the closure of the set of points of rank greater than 1 is an F-subspace, is an SV space. We compute the tangent cone and the tangent set of order two to the positive cone of some important functional spaces such as the space C(K) of continuous functions on a compact space and the space L_p(Q) of p-integrable functions on a measured space. We investigate the left-sided scale and the two-sided scale of a quasi-uniform space. While the two-sided scale of a quasi-uniform space X shows a behavior similar to the usual hyperspace of X equipped with its Hausdorff quasiuniformity, the left-sided scale generalizes the quasi-uniform multifunction space of X into itself.  相似文献

A biBanach space is an asymmetric normed linear space (X,‖·‖) such that the normed linear space (X,‖·‖s) is a Banach space, where ‖xs= max {‖x‖,‖-x‖} for all xX. We prove that each asymmetric normed linear space (X,‖·‖) is isometrically isomorphic to a dense subspace of a biBanach space (Y,‖·‖Y). In this paper, we are concerned with the linearly constrained global minimization of the sum of a concave function defined on ap-dimensional space and a linear function defined on aq-dimensional space, whereq may be much larger thanp. It is shown that a conical algorithm can be applied in a space of dimensionp + 1 that involves only linear programming subproblems in a space of dimensionp +q + 1. We construct an example of a nonseparable Banach space which does not admit a support set.2 It is a consistent (and necessarily independent from the axioms of ZFC) example of a space C(K) of continuous functions on a compact Hausdorff K with the supremum norm. The construction depends on a construction of a Boolean algebra with some combinatorial properties. The space is also hereditarily Lindelöf in the weak topology but it doesn't have any nonseparable subspace nor any nonseparable quotient which is a C(K) space for K dispersed.  相似文献

Let X be a locally convex Hausdorff space and let C0(S,X) be the space of all continuous functions f:SX, with compact support on the locally compact space S. In this paper we prove a Riesz representation theorem for a class of bounded operators T:C0(S,X)→X, where the representing integrals are X-valued Pettis integrals with respect to bounded signed measures on S. Under the additional assumption that X is a locally convex space, having the convex compactness property, or either, X is a locally convex space whose dual X is a barrelled space for an appropriate topology, we obtain a complete identification between all X-valued Pettis integrals on S and the bounded operators T:C0(S,X)→X they represent. Finally we give two illustrations of the representation theorem proved, in the particular case when X is the topological dual of a locally convex space.  相似文献

We consider the question whether there exists a Banach space X of density continuum such that every Banach space of density at most continuum isomorphically embeds into X (called a universal Banach space of density c). It is well known that ℓ/c 0 is such a space if we assume the continuum hypothesis. Some additional set-theoretic assumption is indeed needed, as we prove in the main result of this paper that it is consistent with the usual axioms of set-theory that there is no universal Banach space of density c. Thus, the problem of the existence of a universal Banach space of density c is undecidable using the usual axioms of set-theory.  相似文献

The present paper is devoted to the study of equivariant embeddings of the n-dimensional space into a Hilbert space. We consider a representation of a group of similarities. The existence of a cocycle for this representation implies the existence of an isometric embedding of a metric group into the Hilbert space. Then we describe all cocycles of a representation of the additive group of real numbers and construct an embedding of the n-dimensional space with metric d(x,y)=|x-y| into the Hilbert space.
