We give a short and direct proof for the computation of the Szlenk index of the C(K) spaces, when K is a countable compact space and determine their Lavrientiev indices. We also compute the Szlenk index of certain C(α) spaces, where α is an uncountable ordinal. Finally, we show that if the Szlenk index of a Banach space is ω (first infinite ordinal), then its weak*-dentability index is at most ω2 and that this estimate is optimal. For every uniformly convex Banach spaceX with dimX2 there is a residual setU in the Hausdorff metric spaceB(X) of bounded and closed sets inX such that the metric projection generated by a set fromU is two-valued and upper semicontinuous on a dense and everywhere continual subset ofX. In this paper we find invariant subspaces of certain positive quasinilpotent operators on Krein spaces and, more generally, on ordered Banach spaces with closed generating cones. In the later case, we use the method of minimal vectors. We present applications to Sobolev spaces, spaces of differentiable functions, and C*-algebras.   相似文献

We prove various generalizations of classical Sard's theorem to mappings f:M m N n between manifolds in Hölder and Sobolev classes. It turns out that if fC k,λ (M m ,N n ), then—for arbitrary k and λ—one can obtain estimates of the Hausdorff measure of the set of critical points in a typical level set f ?1(y). The classical theorem of Sard holds true for fC k with sufficiently large k, i.e., k>max(m?n,0); our estimates contain Sard's theorem (and improvements due to Dubovitskii and Bates) as special cases. For Sobolev mappings between manifolds, we describe the structure of f ?1(y).  相似文献

Our goal in this paper is to prove versions of the Hahn—Banach and Banach—Steinhaus theorems for convex processes. For the first theorem, we prove that each real convex process corresponds to a sublinear or superlinear functional and then we extend these. For the second theorem, we previously show that there is a seminorm naturally associated to the class of lower semi-continuous convex processes.  相似文献

We show that: 1) each compact set inc 0(X) admits a (Chebyshev) center iff each compact set inX admits a center; 2) forX satisfying a certain condition (Q), each bounded set inc 0(X) admits a center iffX is quasi uniformly rotund. We present a Choquet-Deny-type theorem in weighted spaces together with an application to simultaneous approximation and interpolation from inf-lattices generated by convex sets. Moreover, we determine a characterization of the Korovkin closure of vector lattices and, as a consequence, a different proof of the Stone-Weierstrass theorem for some weighted spaces.  相似文献

We revisit the concept of a subsymmetric norm and construct a subsymmetric renorming of a Banach space with a subsymmetric basis. Suppose that X and Y are Banach spaces complemented in each other with supplemented subspaces A and B. In 1996, W. T. Gowers solved the Schroeder–Bernstein problem for Banach spaces by showing that X is not necessarily isomorphic to Y. In this paper, we obtain some suitable conditions involving the spaces A and B to yield that X is isomorphic to Y or to provide that at least X m is isomorphic to Yn for some m, n ∈ IN*. So we get some decomposition methods in Banach spaces via supplemented subspaces resembling Pełczyński’s decomposition methods. In order to do this, we introduce several notions of Schroeder–Bernstein Quadruples acting on the spaces X, Y, A and B. Thus, we characterize them by using some Banach spaces recently constructed. We give a new proof of a recent characterization by Diaz and Mayoral of compactness in the Lebesgue-Bochner spaces LXp, where X is a Banach space and 1≤ p<∞, and extend the result to vector-valued Banach function spaces EX, where E is a Banach function space with order continuous norm. This paper deals with the boundary behavior of functions in the de Branges–Rovnyak spaces. First, we give a criterion for the existence of radial limits for the derivatives of functions in the de Branges–Rovnyak spaces. This criterion generalizes a result of Ahern–Clark. Then we prove that the continuity of all functions in a de Branges–Rovnyak space on an open arc I of the boundary is enough to ensure the analyticity of these functions on I. Inspired by some problems on fractional linear transformations the authors introduce and study the class of operators satisfying the condition where stands for the spectral radius; and the class of Banach spaces in which all operators satisfy this condition, the authors call such spaces V-spaces. It is shown that many well-known reflexive spaces, in particular, such spaces as Lp(0,1) and Cp, are non-V-spaces if p 2; and that the spaces lp are V-spaces if and only if 1 < p < . A pair of operators on a Banach space X are isometrically equivalent if they are intertwined by a surjective isometry of X. We investigate the isometric equivalence problem for pairs of operators on specific types of Banach spaces. We study weighted shifts on symmetric sequence spaces, elementary operators acting on an ideal I of Hilbert space operators, and composition operators on the Bloch space. This last case requires an extension of known results about surjective isometries of the Bloch space.  相似文献

A second look at the authors' [BDR1], [BDR2] characterization of the approximation order of a Finitely generated Shift-Invariant subspace S(Φ) of L 2 (R d ) results in a more explicit formulation entirely in terms of the (Fourier transform of the) generators of the subspace. Further, when the generators satisfy a certain technical condition, then, under the mild assumption that the set of 1-periodizations of the generators is linearly independent, such a space is shown to provide approximation order k if and only if contains a ψ (necessarily unique) satisfying . The technical condition is satisfied, e.g., when the generators are at infinity for some ρ>k+d . In the case of compactly supported generators, this recovers an earlier result of Jia [J1], [J2].
