Comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography with micro electron-capture detection (GCxGC-muECD) was evaluated for the separation of 125 polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs). From among the six column combinations that were evaluated, DB-1x007-65HT was found to be the most suitable because of: (i) the highest number of BDE congeners separated; (ii) the least decomposition of higher brominated congeners; and (iii) the most suitable maximum operating temperature. The separation of the 125 BDE congeners from five hydroxy- and two methoxy-BDEs and nine other brominated flame retardants (polybrominated biphenyls, tetrabromobisphenol-A, methyl-tetrabromobisphenol-A and hexabromocyclododecane) was also studied. Fluorinated BDEs were found to be valuable internal standards for the determination of BDEs because of their very similar physico-chemical properties and excellent separation from the parent BDEs, mainly in the second dimension. GCxGC-time-of-flight MS and GCxGC-muECD were shown to be useful tools to identify decomposition products of nona- and deca-substituted BDEs, which are formed during the GC run. Three nona-BDEs were shown to be the major decomposition products of BDE 209.  相似文献

An intercomparison to establish the performance of routine laboratories in the determination of polybrominated flame retardants in polymers was organised. Commercial poly(ethyleneterephthalate) was fortified with technical pentabromodiphenyl ether, octabromodiphenyl ether and decabromodiphenyl ether mixtures and with a decabromobiphenyl technical mixture at 0.4–0.8 g/kg. Homogeneity and stability of the total Br content in the material was confirmed. Thirty-seven laboratories from Europe, Asia and the Americas submitted results. Relative repeatability standard deviations for individual congeners ranged from 7 to 17%. Relative between-laboratory standard deviations ranged from 22 to 61%. No significant influence of a common standard, application of a standard method or method parameters could be identified. The quality and uncertainty of the results of this study are significantly worse than those reported in the environmental field and indicate a clear need for a learning process among the laboratories involved. This work presents linear temperature programmed retention indices on the columns with stationary phases of 5% phenylpolydimethyl silicone of 389 organic compounds, including extractive substances of plant tissues and environmentally important compounds. Theoretical procedures have been used to predict linear temperature-programmed retention indices for polycyclic aromatic compounds. It is possible to calculate such indices for polycyclic aromatic compounds in some practical situations in which the compounds cannot be eluted during a simple linear temperature program. The theory has been tested for a number of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAHs) in single- and multi-plateau temperature-programmed gas chromatography with SE-52 as the stationary phase. This method will extend the applicability of linear retention indices for the identification of the isomers of polycyclic aromatic compounds.  相似文献

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) fall into the class of compounds known as brominated flame retardants and their incorporation in a multitude of products is responsible for saving numerous lives. However, toxicology studies have alerted researchers to the potential adverse health effects that may develop as a result of prolonged or extreme exposure to these compounds. Frequent disposal and subsequent leaching has focused concern on environmental concentrations and current reports cite increasing levels. Method development continues in support of this research and the present work examines the feasibility of utilizing gas chromatography ion trap mass spectrometry operating in positive ion chemical ionization mode. In the evaluation of reagents for chemical ionization (methane, methanol and acetonitrile), comparative results of all three reagents demonstrated more difficult protonation as the number of bromine atoms increased. Methane, possessing the lowest proton affinity, provided the highest response for the analytes. Further, when methane chemical ionization was compared to electron impact ionization, the tetra-congener showed approximately 8× greater sensitivity and the penta- and hexa-congeners demonstrated approximately 2× greater. CI parameters, such as ionization and reaction times, were optimized to provide the highest analyte response and this was followed by the investigation of the employment of MSn. In the this mode, optimal excitation amplitude delivered sufficient fragmentation while maintaining maximum signal, yielding final instrument detection limits in the sub µg L− 1 range.  相似文献

The gas chromatographic (GC) retention times of 180 polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) were obtained under different operational conditions on two types of commonly used capillary columns, Restek Rtx-1614 and J&W DB-5MS, of different dimensions. The relative retention times (RRTs) for PBDEs were calculated by normalizing the retention times of individual congeners to the sum of those of BDEs 47 and 183. In clear contrast to polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), the elution of PBDEs has few cross-homolog overlaps, and this observation is discussed in terms of molecular conformation with regard to co-planarity. Within a homolog, ortho substitution in PBDEs tends to decrease GC retention, and such an effect is stronger for higher homologs. With the RRT database established in this work, a simple approach is evaluated for the identification of all mono to hepta PBDEs from the RRTs of 39 congeners under various GC conditions to facilitate the identification of unknown PBDE peaks for which chemical standards are not available.  相似文献

动物肝脏中九种多溴联苯醚残留量的GC—NCI/MS分析   总被引:5,自引:1,他引:5  
建立了动物肝脏中9种PBDEs残留量的气相色谱-负化学离子源/质谱(GC-NCI/MS)的分析方法。动物肝脏样品经V(正己烷)∶V(丙酮)=1∶1超声辅助提取,中性与酸性硅胶层析柱净化和V(正已烷)∶V(CH2Cl2)=1∶1洗脱和浓缩后,以PCB-103为内标物,采用GC-NCI/MS的选择离子监测方式(SIM)对其中的9种PBDEs残留量进行了定性与定量分析。当动物肝脏空白样品的加标质量浓度为5.0、20.0μg/kg(PBDE-183为6.0、24.0μg/kg)时,9种PBDEs的平均加标回收率为75.1%~88.2%,相对标准偏差为3.3%~7.9%,方法检出限均小于0.07μg/kg;线性范围除PBDE-183为0.12~600.0μg/kg外,其余8种PBDEs为0.1~500.0μg/kg,相关系数都大于0.9993。所建立的分析方法已用于5种动物肝脏的8个样品中9种PBDEs残留量的分析。  相似文献

The transferability of retention data among isocratic and gradient RPLC elution modes is studied. For this purpose, 16 beta-blockers were chromatographed under both isocratic and gradient elution with acetonitrile-water mobile phases. Taking into account the elution mode where the experimental data come from, and the mode where the retention should be predicted, the following combinations are possible: isocratic predictions from (i) isocratic or (ii) gradient experimental designs; and gradient predictions from (iii) isocratic or (iv) gradient data. Each of these possibilities was checked using three retention models that relate the logarithm of the retention factor: (a) linearly and (b) quadratically with the volume fraction of organic solvent, and (c) linearly with a normalised mobile phase polarity parameter. The study was carried out under two different perspectives: a straightforward examination of the prediction errors and the analysis of the uncertainties derived from the variance-covariance matrix of the fitted models. The best combinations of prediction mode and model were: (i)-(b), (ii)-(c), (iii)-(b), and (iv)-(a) or (c).  相似文献

Growing concern on the environmental impact of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) has created the need for rapid and quality assured analytical methods to quantify PBDEs in a spectrum of matrix types. This study presents the first validated method for the quantification of major PBDE congeners (47, 99 and 100) in marine biological tissues using microwave-assisted extraction (MAE). The recovery of polychlorinated biphenyls and various organochlorine pesticides has also been ascertained. Analytical accuracy, precision, limits of detection and cleanup efficiency were evaluated for PBDE congeners, and empirical data justifies the use of MAE for the extraction and analysis of PBDEs in biological matrices. MAE was also compared to Soxhlet extraction efficiency for PBDEs in the standard reference materials SRM2978 and SRM1588a and gave comparable results (<15% variation).  相似文献

This paper describes the first validated method for the extraction, purification and determination of trace levels of a number of pollutants of growing concern, including polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), in aquaculture feeds and products. The new procedure comprises microwave-assisted extraction (MAE; optimized, using a central composite experimental design, to 15 min at 85 °C in 14 mL of 1:1 hexane/dichloromethane), and concentration by headspace solid-phase microextraction (HSSPME), and separation/quantification by gas chromatography with mass spectrometry detection (GC-MS/MS). The method was validated on the reference materials IAEA-406 and WMF-01. Limits of detection for fourteen of the fifteen analytes considered range from 10 to 600 pg g−1, and limits of quantification from 50 pg g−1 to 1.9 ng g−1. Numerous reports have appeared on the determination of temperature programmed retention indexes in gas chromatography and although chromatographic variables should be completely consistent with published data if such indexes are to be of use, the reproduction of such rigorous parameters is quite difficult. This report presents an approximate method for using published values of temperature programmed retention indexes in isothermal chromatography. In general, the temperature dependence of the isothermal retention indexes of a number of compounds can be expressed as a series of oblique lines on a plot with retention index as the abscissa and temperature as the ordinate; the elution order of the compounds at a given, isothermal, temperature is then indicated by the points at which the compounds' oblique lines cut the horizontal line corresponding to the temperature of interest. In linear temperature programmed chromatography, the horizontal line representing isothermal operation becomes, to a first approximation, a sloping line with a gradient corresponding to the programming rate: this has been verified experimentally and may be valid over a wide range of temperatures. This line can be used to predict isothermal retention indexes for use in qualitative analysis.  相似文献

We report the development of a capillary gas chromatographic method, superior to existing packed column methods, for the analysis of highly brominated additive fire-retardants, including decabromodiphenyl ether (1) and decabromodiphenoxyethane (II). Neither compound has been analyzed previously by capillary GC, and there are no published methods for (II). For (I), the new method is 5–10 times faster than an analogous packed column method, and it has 100 times lower detection limits and twice the precision of a gas chromatographic/mass spectrometric method. For (II), the capillary method is 30–50% faster than an unpublished liquid chromatographic method. The greater efficiency of the capillary method makes possible the complete resolution (R ≥ 1.25) of structurally very similar compounds (e.g. compound (II) and its Br9Cl1 and Br8Cl2 analogues). With the new method, commercial preparations of (I) and (II) can be rapidly analyzed, and samples from combustion and pyrolysis experiments can be evaluated for compositional changes.  相似文献

Retention indices of standard organic compounds of environmental interest were determined by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry, using a DB-5 fused-silica capillary column. Retention indices are useful references for tentative compound identification by gas chromatography, or confirmation by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. They provide elution order for isomers that might be indistinguishable based on mass spectra. Modified Kovats and Lee retention indices are given for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons; sulfur heterocycles; nitrogen heterocycles; aromatic amines; oxygen heterocycles; phenols; alcohols; ketones; alkanes; nitriles; and methylesters of fatty, dicarboxylic, and aromatic acids for comparison and reference. Retention index values for heterocycles by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry are comparable with gas chromatography values previously reported.  相似文献

Gradient elution in ion chromatography (IC) offers several advantages: total analysis time can be significantly reduced, overall resolution of a mixture can be increased, peak shape can be improved (less tailing) and effective sensitivity can be increased (because there is little variation in peak shape). More importantly, it provides the maximum resolution per time unit. The aim of this work was the development of a suitable artificial neural network (ANN) gradient elution retention model that can be used in a variety of applications for method development and retention modelling of inorganic anions in IC. Multilayer perceptron ANNs were used to model the retention behaviour of fluoride, chloride, nitrite, sulphate, bromide, nitrate and phosphate in relation to the starting time of gradient elution and the slope of the linear gradient elution curve. The advantage of the developed model is the application of an optimized two-phase training algorithm that enables the researcher to make use of the advantages of first- and second-order training algorithms in one training procedure. This results in better predictive ability, with less time required for the calculations. The number of hidden layer neurons and experimental data points used for the training set were optimized in terms of obtaining a precise and accurate retention model with respect to minimization of unnecessary experimentation and time needed for the calculation procedures. This study shows that developed, ANNs are the method of first choice for retention modelling of inorganic anions in IC.  相似文献

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) are a class of flame retardants used globally in many consumer products and industrial applications. Traditionally, gas chromatography–high resolution mass spectrometry (GC–HR-MS) is the method of choice for analysis of PBDEs in environmental samples because it offers high sensitivity and selectivity, resulting in less interferences. However, the specificity offered by gas chromatography-triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometry (GC–QQQ-MS/MS), operated in selected reaction monitoring mode, provides a more affordable alternative to GC–HR-MS for the analysis of PBDEs in complex environmental samples. In this study, an analytical method was developed for the analysis of 41 PBDE congeners in fish using GC–QQQ-MS/MS. Results from the analysis of three fish species [lake trout (Salvelinus namaycush), yellow perch (Perca flavescens), and round goby (Neogobius melanostomus)] using GC–QQQ-MS/MS were compared with those obtained by GC–HR-MS. These species were selected because they represent varying levels of lipid-rich matrix and contaminant loads. Instrumental limits of detection for the GC–QQQ-MS/MS ranged from 0.04 pg to 41 pg, whereas those for the GC–HR-MS ranged from 5 pg to 85 pg. The PBDE values obtained from these two methods were highly correlated, R2 values >0.7, for all three fish species, supporting the suitability of GC–QQQ-MS/MS for analysis of PBDEs in fish with varying fat content.  相似文献

In this work, three different methods for modeling of gradient retention were combined with several optimization objective functions in order to find the most appropriate combination to be applied in ion chromatography method development. The system studied was a set of seven inorganic anions (fluoride, chloride, nitrite, sulfate, bromide, nitrate, and phosphate) with a KOH eluent. The retention modeling methods tested were multilayer perceptron artificial neural network (MLP-ANN), radial-basis function artificial neural network (RBF-ANN), and retention model based on transfer of data from isocratic to gradient elution mode. It was shown that MLP retention model in combination with the objective function based on normalized retention difference product was the most adequate tool for optimization purposes.  相似文献

Retention behaviors of alkyl phosophates were studied on a series of ionic liquid gas chromatography columns. The selectivity of the IL columns for alkyl phosphates were compared with a 5% phenyl column as a route to evaluating the potential use of IL columns in the analysis of alkyl phosphates in petroleum samples in both one- and multi-dimensional GC. Most interestingly, we demonstrate for the first time the dependence of elution order on separation temperature for members of a homologous series of compounds. At low temperatures it was found that trihexyl phosphate eluted before trioctyl phosphate, while at higher temperatures this pattern was reversed.  相似文献
