The goal of this study is to assess the implications of the choice of correctors for semi-implicit Picard integral deferred correction (SIPIDC) methods. The SIPIDC methods previously developed compute a high-order approximation by first computing a low-order provisional solution using a semi-implicit method and then using a first-order semi-implicit method to solve a series of correction equations, each of which raises the order of accuracy of the solution by one. In this study, we examine the efficiency of SIPIDC methods that instead use standard second-order semi-implicit methods to solve the correction equations. The accuracy, efficiency, and stability of the resulting methods are compared to previously developed methods, in the context of both nonstiff and stiff problems.  相似文献

In this paper, we present an alternative method for solving the general inhomogeneous linear ordinary differential equation (ODE) of order two. The solution appears in the standard form as the sum of the solution of the equivalent homogeneous problem and the particular solution of the inhomogeneous problem at hand. The main advantage of the method exposed herein is that the particular solution is computable from two different integrals. This allows the problem solver to choose the simplest integral with which to work with in order to get the final solution. For illustrative purposes we employ the method presented to aid in the solution of some example problems including the inhomogeneous Klein-Gordon equation.  相似文献

We construct nonstandard finite-difference (NSFD) schemes that provide exact numerical methods for a first-order differential equation having three distinct fixed-points. An explicit, but also nonexact, NSFD scheme is also constructed. It has the feature of preserving the critical properties of the original differential equation such as the positivity of the solutions and the stability behavior of the three fixed-points.  相似文献

The application of the Kudryashov method for finding exact solutions of the high order nonlinear evolution equations is considered. Some classes of solitary wave solutions for the families of nonlinear evolution equations of fifth, sixth and seventh order are obtained. In this paper, we consider the eigenvalue problem consisting of the equation where and λR, together with the multi-point boundary conditions where m±?1 are integers, and, for i=1,…,m±, , , with , . We show that if the coefficients are sufficiently small (depending on r), then the spectral properties of this problem are similar to those of the usual separated problem, but if the coefficients are not sufficiently small, then these standard spectral properties need not hold. The spectral properties of such multi-point problems have been obtained before for the constant coefficient case (r≡1), but the variable coefficient case has not been considered previously (apart from the existence of ‘principal’ eigenvalues).Some nonlinear multi-point problems are also considered. We obtain a (partial) Rabinowitz-type result on global bifurcation from the eigenvalues, and various nonresonance conditions for the existence of general solutions and also of nodal solutions—these results rely on the spectral properties of the linear problem.  相似文献

New existence and uniqueness proofs are given for the solutions of the equations governing the self-similar compressible boundary layer (Falkner-Skan equations). We describe an algorithm for the numerical solution of second order linear ordinary differential equations in the high-frequency regime. It is based on the recent observation that solutions of equations of this type can be accurately represented using nonoscillatory phase functions. Unlike standard solvers for ordinary differential equations, the running time of our algorithm is independent of the frequency of oscillation of the solutions. We illustrate this and other properties of the method with several numerical experiments.  相似文献

The Runge-Kutta method is one of the most popular implicit methods for the solution of stiff ordinary differential equations. For large problems, the main drawback of such methods is the cost required at each integration step for computing the solution of a nonlinear system of equations. In this paper, we propose to reduce the cost of the computation by transforming the linear systems arising in the application of Newton's method to Stein matrix equations. We propose an iterative projection method onto block Krylov subspaces for solving numerically such Stein matrix equations. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the performance of our proposed method.  相似文献

Many models of physical and chemical processes give rise to ordinary differential equations with special structural properties that go unexploited by general-purpose software designed to solve numerically a wide range of differential equations. If those properties are to be exploited fully for the sake of better numerical stability, accuracy and/or speed, the differential equations may have to be solved by unconventional methods. This short paper is to publish composition constants obtained by the authors to increase efficiency of a family of mostly unconventional methods, called reflexive.

In this paper, we establish new nonlinear integral inequalities of Gronwall-Bellman-Pachpatte type. These inequalities generalize some former famous inequalities and can be used as handy tools to study the qualitative as well as the quantitative properties of solutions of some nonlinear ordinary differential and integral equations. The purpose of this paper is to extend certain results which proved by Pachpatte in [Inequalities for Differential and Integral Equations, Academic Press, New York and London, 1998]. In this paper, we demonstrate that an infinite number of successive integration by parts can be written in a closed form.
