Stabilities of Hilbert space contraction semigroups revisited

A necessary and sufficient condition for exponential stability of Hilbert space contraction semigroups is obtained in terms of an inequality involving the dissipative norm associated with the generator of the semigroup and with the Hilbert space norm.     

Closed sectorial forms and one-parameter contraction semigroups

Strong stability of quasi-affine transforms of contraction semigroups and the steady-state riccati equation

This paper studies strong stability of the class of strongly continuous Hilbert space semigroups which are quasi-affine transforms of contraction semigroups. Sufficient conditions for such a semigroup to be approximately strong stable are given. Applications to the stabilizability problem of Hilbert space semigroups, using a feedback involving a solution of the steady-state Riccati equation, are made. Our key tool is the generalization of the LaSalle invariance principle by Hale.This research was supported by the United States Air Force Office of Scientific Research, Directorate of Mathematical and Information Sciences, under Grant No. AFOSR-79-0053D.     

Approximations to fixed points of contraction semigroups in hilbert spaces

Sequences (or curves) are constructed to approximate common fixed points of a pair of nonex-pansive mappings (or contraction semigroups) in Hilbert spaces. The obtained results extend the previously known results from a single mapping to a family of mappings.     

Inverse subsemigroups and classes of finite aperiodic semigroups

We prove a number of results related to finite semigroups and their inverse subsemigroups, including the following. (1) A finite semigroup is aperiodic if and only if it is a homomorphic image of a finite semigroup whose inverse subsemigroups are semilattices. (2) A finite inverse semigroup can be represented by order-preserving mappings on a chain if and only if it is a semilattice. Finally, we introduce the concept of pseudo-small quasivariety of finite semigroups, generalizing the concept of small variety.

Strong convergence of a general viscosity explicit rule for the sum of two monotone operators in Hilbert spaces

In this paper, we study a general viscosity explicit rule for approximating the solutions of the variational inclusion problem for the sum of two monotone operators. We then prove its strong convergence under some new conditions on the parameters in the framework of Hilbert spaces. As applications, we apply our main result to the split feasibility problem and the LASSO problem. We also give some numerical examples to support our main result. The results presented in this paper extend and improve the corresponding results in the literature.

Perturbations of strongly continuous operator semigroups,and matrix Muckenhoupt weights

Let A and A ₀ be linear continuously invertible operators on a Hilbert space ? such that A ^?1 ? A ₀ ^?1 has finite rank. Assuming that σ(A ₀) = ? and that the operator semigroup V ₊(t) = exp{iA ₀ t}, t ≥ 0, is of class C ₀, we state criteria under which the semigroups U _±(t) = exp{±iAt}, t ≥ 0, are of class C ₀ as well. The analysis in the paper is based on functional models for nonself-adjoint operators and techniques of matrix Muckenhoupt weights.     

Stability of solutions of an equation arising in hydromechanics

We study the strong stability of the equation describing small oscillations of an elastic pipe conveying an ideal fluid. We prove the existence and uniqueness theorem for the generalized solution and find sufficient conditions for strong stability in the case of a pulsing fluid. On the H-property of functionals in Sobolev spaces

In this paper, we consider special classes of strongly convex functionals in Sobolev spaces. Asymptotic expansions of the representation formulae for (C 0) m-parameter operator semigroups 1 . 2

In this paper, we expand asymptotically the general representation formulae for (C _o) m-parameter operator semigroups. When we consider special semigroups, our results yield the asymptotic expansions for multivariate Feller operators. In particular, the asymptotic expansions for univariate and multivariate Bernstein operators are reobtained. See the related examples at the end.     

A mini max theorem for the quasi-convex functional and the solution of the nonlinear beam equation

In this paper, a definition of a kind of quasi-convex functional was proposed and two properties of the quasi-convex functional were proved. A mini max theorem due to Stepan A. Tersian was generalized by using the properties of the quasi-convex functional. The existence and uniqueness of solution of the boundary value problem for the nonlinear beam equation was probed and an existence and uniqueness theorem was presented.     

Global dynamics of a Cholera model with age-of-immunity structure and reinfection

To understand V.Cholera transmission dynamics, in this paper, a mathematical model for the dynamics of cholera with reinfection is formulated that incorporates the duration time of the recovery individuals (age-of-immunity). The basic reproduction number $Re_0$ for the model is identified and the threshold property of $Re_0$ is established. By applying the persistence theory for infinite-dimensional systems, we show that the disease is uniformly persistent if the reproductive number $ Re_0>1$. By constructing a suitable Lyapunov function, the global stability of the infection-free equilibrium in the system is obtained for $Re_0<1$; the unique endemic equilibrium of the system is globally asymptotically stable for $Re_0>1$.     

Martingale convergence,series expansion of Gaussian elements,and strong law of large numbers in Fréchet spaces

The main result of this paper is the derivation of a convergence theorem for certain martingales with values in a separable Fréchet space F. It is shown that this result includes a well known theorem due to Chatterji. Moreover, the series expansion of zero-mean Gaussian elements with values in F and the strong law of large numbers for i.i.d. F-valued random elements also follow as applications of the main theorem.     

Non-Archimedean Analogues of Orthogonal and Symmetric Operators and p-adic Quantization

We study orthogonal and symmetric operators in non-Archimedean Hilbert spaces in the connection with p-adic quantization. This quantization describes measurements with finite precision. Symmetric (bounded) operators in the p-adic Hilbert spaces represent physical observables. We study spectral properties of one of the most important quantum operators, namely, the operator of the position (which is represented in the p-adic Hilbert L₂-space with respect to the p-adic Gaussian measure). Orthogonal isometric isomorphisms of p-adic Hilbert spaces preserve precisions of measurements. We study properties of orthogonal operators. It is proved that each orthogonal operator in the non-Archimedean Hilbert space is continuous. However, there exist discontinuous operators with the dense domain of definition which preserve the inner product. There also exist nonisometric orthogonal operators. We describe some classes of orthogonal isometric operators and we study some general questions of the theory of non-Archimedean Hilbert spaces (in particular, general connections between topology, norm and inner product).     

Representation of certain infinitely divisible probability measures on Banach spaces

Subclasses L₀ ? L₁ ? … ? L_∞ of the class L₀ of self-decomposable probability measures on a Banach space are defined by means of certain stability conditions. Each of these classes is closed under translation, convolution and passage to weak limits. These subclasses are analogous to those defined earlier by K. Urbanik on the real line and studied in that context by him and by the authors. A representation is given for the characteristic functionals of the measures in each of these classes on conjugate Banach spaces. On a Hilbert space it is shown that L_∞ is the smallest subclass of L₀ with the closure properties above containing all the stable measures.
