A procedure for solving the problem of non-linear propagation of elastic surface waves is given. An expression for the particle displacement of the second harmonic is obtained. It is shown that the amplitude of the harmonic increases linearly with distance and time and is proportional to the square of the amplitude of the fundamental frequency wave.  相似文献

Summary The dynamics of one-dimensional two-component shear motion in elastic-isotropic homogeneous media is studied assuming isentropic finite displacements. Wave breaking of initially continuous waves on the infinite interval is discussed for weakly nonlinear waves.The problem of a resonating finite-thickness shear layer in primary resonance for single-component motion exhibits jump discontinuities of particle velocity, shear strain and stress in a finite frequency band near primary resonance.Under certain conditions two-component motion can be reduced to a quasi-single-component motion.  相似文献

With the fast evolution of wireless and networking communication technology, applications of surface acoustic wave (SAW), or Rayleigh wave, resonators are proliferating with fast shrinking sizes and increasing frequencies. It is inevitable that the smaller resonators will be under a strong electric field with induced large deformation, which has to be described in wave propagation equations with the consideration of nonlinearity. In this study, the formal nonlinear equations of motion are constructed by introducing the nonlinear constitutive relation and strain components in a standard procedure, and the equations are simplified by the extended Galerkin method through the elimination of harmonics. The wave velocity of the nonlinear SAW is obtained from approximated nonlinear equations and boundary conditions through a rigorous solution procedure. It is shown that if the amplitude is small enough, the nonlinear results are consistent with the linear results, demonstrating an alternative procedure for nonlinear analysis of SAW devices working in nonlinear state.  相似文献

The oblique incidence of small-amplitude waves on an elastic semi-infinite composite plate floating on the free surface of finite-depth water is studied. The front part of a constant-width plate is highed to the basic part and has characteristics different from those of the basic part. The reflection and transmission coefficients of the waves and the vertical displacements of the plate are determined. It is shown that the heterogeneity of the plate material exerts a strong effect on surface-wave diffraction. Oblique incidence of small-amplitude waves on an elastic plate floating on a free liquid surface is studied. The reflection and transmission factors of the waves and the vertical displacements and strains of the plate are determined. It is shown that all these characteristics depend greatly on the incidence angle and frequency of the wave and the width of the plate. The effect of second- and third-order nonlinearities on transverse shear waves in an elastic medium is examined. It is found that waveform distortion and shock development occur on a length scale which is an order of magnitude greater than for longitudinal waves. Summary Progressive harmonic waves in nonlinear elastic materials are generally considered as small disturbances superposed on a finite deformation. In this first approximation they are governed by essentially the same laws as in linear elasticity. In the present paper a second-order theory is developed which allows for nonlinear effects on progressive waves in a finitely deformed elastic material. The problem is investigated by means of a perturbation procedure using intrinsically two time scales. After providing the kinematical prerequisites a transport equation is derived which governs the distortion of the wave profile. A closedform solution is obtained for the case of a plane wave in a homogeneous medium. The influence of nonlinearity is closely related to the evolution of acceleration waves.
Zusammenfassung Fortschreitende harmonische Wellen in nichtlinearen elastischen Stoffen werden meist als kleine Störungen betrachtet, die einer endlichen Verformung überlagert sind. In dieser ersten Näherung genügen sie im wesentlichen den gleichen Gesetzen wie in der linearen Elastizitätstheorie. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird eine Theorie zweiter Ordnung entwickelt, die auch nichtlineare Effekte bei fortschreitenden Wellen in einem endlich verformten elastischen Material berücksichtigt. Das Problem wird mit Hilfe einer Störungsmethode behandelt, welche implizit zwei verschiedene Zeitmaßstäbe zuläßt. Nach Bereitstellung der kinematischen Hilfsmittel wird eine Transportgleichung hergeleitet, welche die Verzerrung des Wellenprofils beschreibt. Für ebene Wellen in einem homogenen Medium wird eine geschlossene Lösung angegeben. Der Einfluß der Nichtlinearität zeigt eine enge Verwandtschaft zur zeitlichen Entwicklung von Beschleunigungswellen.

The existence of surface wave modes, propagating along an infinite cylindrical cavity of arbitrary constant cross section in an elastic medium, is investigated theoretically. A general secular equation is derived using the null-field approach and global expansions of the surface displacements. Numerical results for the phase velocities, surface displacements and cut-off frequencies are presented for elliptic cross sections. The largest eccentricity considered is 0.99995 and it is inferred that the flexural mode exists at all frequencies for any eccentricity of the cross section.  相似文献

Gravity waves of small but finite amplitude on the free surface of an electrically conducting liquid are examined. For the waves whose propagation is described by the Korteweg-de Vries equation (in the absence of a magnetic field), equations are derived. The general theory of simple waves in Green-elastic and Cauchy-elastic materials is given. Such waves generate three-dimensional unsteady deformations. Boundary conditions producing such waves are derived together with conditions under which shocks occur. The theory is used to illustrate conditions behind acceleration fronts moving into homogeneously deformed regions and also the modes of propagation of fronts moving into a simple wave. The steady flow of an elastic material past a rigid developable surface is discussed. Simple waves which are principal waves are also discussed.  相似文献

The effect of nonlinearity on the propagation of surface Rayleigh waves on an elastic medium of cubic symmetry is examined by applying the results of an earlier analysis for general anisotropic materials. Explicit calculations are given of the parameters relating to the generation of higher harmonics in an initially sinusoidal wave for a series of thirty-five materials for which experimental measurements of the third-order moduli are available.  相似文献

Propagation of longitudinal and transverse waves in an elastic solid that contains a cracked slab region is investigated. The cracks have a uniform probability density in the slab region, are parallel to the boundaries of the slab, and the solid is uncracked on either side of the slab. The waves are normally incident on the cracks. It is shown that the resulting average total motion in the solid is governed by a pair of coupled integral equations. These equations are solved under the special assumption that the average exciting motion near a fixed crack is equal to the average total motion. In this case, one finds that in the cracked region, where multiple scattering occurs, there is a forward motion and a backward motion. The two motions have identical frequency-dependent velocity and attenuation, for which simple closed-form formulae are obtained. Simple formulae are also obtained for the wave amplitudes outside the slab. Numerical results corresponding to the velocity, attenuation, reflection amplitude, and transmission amplitude are presented for several values of crack density and slab thickness.  相似文献

The steady-state response of an infinite plate to a steadily moving line load is studied. The nonlinear plate theory of Herrmann is used. The plate response is governed by a set of nonlinear differential equations and, in addition, must satisfy the “radiation” conditions. Appropriate radiation conditions for the present nonlinear problem are developed. Exact solutions representing nonlinear waves generated by the moving load are constructed.  相似文献

It is shown that when the complications associated with material anisotropy are absent a simple exact analysis can be given of the effect of unidirectional inextensibility on the propagation of surface waves in a semi-infinite elastic body. Provided that the direction of inextensibility e is not orthogonal to either m or m Λ n (m being the outward unit normal to the traction-free boundary of the body and n the wave normal), a unique surface wave exists with displacement everywhere orthogonal to e. The surface-wave solution is assembled from inhomogeneous plane waves in the usual manner, but a novel feature is the presence of a degenerate wave producing no displacement yet perturbing sinusoidally the tension in the inextensible fibres. When the aforementioned provisos are not met the surface wave either degenerates continuously into a shear wave (when (m Λ ne = 0, m·e ≠ 0), ceases to exist (when m·e = 0, n·e ≠ 0), or merges smoothly into a Rayleigh wave (when (emΛn, the inextensibility constraint then being inoperative).  相似文献

The propagation of large amplitude nonlinear waves in a peridynamic solid is analyzed. With an elastic material model that hardens in compression, sufficiently large wave pulses propagate as solitary waves whose velocity can far exceed the linear wave speed. In spite of their large velocity and amplitude, these waves leave the material they pass through with no net change in velocity and stress. They are nondissipative and nondispersive, and they travel unchanged over large distances. An approximate solution for solitary waves is derived that reproduces the main features of these waves observed in computational simulations. It is demonstrated by numerical studies that the waves interact only weakly with each other when they collide. Wavetrains composed of many non-interacting solitary waves are found to form and propagate under certain boundary and initial conditions.  相似文献

The generalized thermo-elasticity theory, i.e., Green and Naghdi (G-N) Ⅲ theory, with energy dissipation (TEWED) is employed in the study of time-harmonic plane wave propagation in an unbounded, perfectly electrically conducting elastic medium subject to primary uniform magnetic field. A more general dispersion equation with com- plex coefficients is obtained for coupled magneto-thermo-elastic wave solved in complex domain by using the Leguerre's method. It reveals that the coupled magneto-thermoelastic wave corresponds to modified dilatational and thermal wave propagation with finite speeds modified by finite thermal wave speeds, thermo-elastic coupling, thermal diffusivity, and the external magnetic field. Numerical results for a copper-like material are presented.  相似文献
