The covariant parton model is used to calculate the cross section for ep → eμ+μ?+ hadrons in the limit governed by the bilocal algebra on the light cone. Such an experiment may be feasible in the forseeable future, but the theoretically most interesting mechanisms would contribute only a small number of events.  相似文献

The nucleon structure functionF 2 is constructed and analysed for low values ofQ 2 using the generalised vector meson dominance representation with the largeQ 2 spectral function calculated from the analytic continuation of the parton model structure function. Various parametrisations of the parton distributions are considered. Possible effects of the largeQ 2 scaling violation on the lowQ 2 part of the structure function are investigated. The magnitude of the total contribution given by this asymptotic part can be as high as 50% of the vector meson contribution in the low-Q 2, low-χ region. The contribution of the valence quarks alone to the structure function at lowQ 2 turns out to be at least as important as the corresponding non-Pomeron Regge-pole-like terms coming from the vector meson part. Increase of the structure function with ν coming from the increase of the quark sea in the limit of small χ implied by QCD turns out to be relatively weak at lowQ 2. Predictions of the model are compared with available experimental data. The photoproduction cross section and the nuclear effects in the structure function are also briefly discussed.  相似文献

By using the formalism of mass dispersion relations and light cone dominance for large masses, relations are derived between photoproduction and deep inelastic electroproduction. In addition large deviations from VDM are derived for ?o electroproduction in the deep inelastic region; these results compare quite well with recent experimental information.  相似文献

In an effort to develop a quantitative check of asymptotically free color-gauge theories, we analyze the logarithmic corrections to ξ-scaling coming from anomalous dimensions and coefficient functions of twist-two operators and compare with electroproduction data for 1 ? Q2 ? 16 GeV2. Excellent agreement is obtained using g2(2 GeV)2 = 0.17 for the effective quark-gluon coupling in the color-gauge theory. Effects of higher-twist operators are suppressed by powers of M02Q2. We use data from the resonance region to show M0 ? 400 MeV, in agreement with theoretical expectations. Our fit to νW2 in the scaling region also describes the resonance region in the sense of Bloom-gilman local duality. We show that local duality is a consequence of the moment predictions obtained from the operator-product expansion in quantum chromodynamics. We resolve a paradox associated with local duality and spin-zero targets. Present measurements of R = σLσT at large x and Q2 are systematically higher than our predictions.  相似文献

We study the ratio R identical with muG_{E}(Q2)/G_{M}(Q2) of the proton at very small values of Q2. Radii commonly associated with these form factors are not moments of charge or magnetization densities. We show that the form factor F2 is correctly interpretable as the two-dimensional Fourier transformation of a magnetization density. A relationship between the measurable ratio and moments of true charge and magnetization densities is derived and used to show that the magnetization density extends further than the charge density, in contrast with expectations based on the measured reduction of R as Q2 increases.  相似文献

The differential cross-sections σ0 = σT + εσL , σLT , and σTT of electroproduction from the proton were measured from threshold up to an additional center-of-mass energy of 40MeV, at a value of the photon four-momentum transfer of Q 2 = 0.05 GeV2/c2 and a center-of-mass angle of θ = 90° . By an additional out-of-plane measurement with polarized electrons σLT' was determined. This showed for the first time the presence of an imaginary part of the s -wave above the threshold, which is usually interpreted as a unitary cusp. The predictions of the Heavy Baryon Chiral Perturbation Theory (HBChPT) are in disagreement with these data. On the other hand, the data are somewhat better predicted by the MAID phenomenological model and are in good agreement with the dynamical model DMT.  相似文献

We report on a measurement of the proton structure function F 2 in the range 3.5 × 10?5x ≤ 4 × 10?3 and 1.5 GeV2Q 2 15 GeV2 at the ep collider HERA operating at a centre-of-mass energy of ${sqrt s} = 300 {? GeV}$. The rise of F 2 with decreasing x observed in the previous HERA measurements persists in this lower x and Q 2 range. The Q 2 evolution of F 2, even at the lowest Q 2 and x measured, is consistent with perturbative QCD.  相似文献

We classify the hadron light-cone wave-function amplitudes in terms of parton helicity, orbital angular momentum, and quark-flavor and color symmetries. We show in detail how this is done for the pion, meson, nucleon, and delta resonance up to and including three partons. For the pion and nucleon, we also consider four-parton amplitudes. We present the first measurement of the Q2 dependence of the neutron spin structure function g2(n) at five kinematic points covering 0.57 (GeV/c)2 < or = Q2 < or = 1.34 (GeV/c)2 at x approximately = 0.2. Though the naive quark-parton model predicts g2 = 0, nonzero values occur in more realistic models of the nucleon which include quark-gluon correlations, finite quark masses, or orbital angular momentum. When scattering from a noninteracting quark, g2(n) can be predicted using next-to-leading order fits to world data for g1(n). Deviations from this prediction provide an opportunity to examine QCD dynamics in nucleon structure. Our results show a positive deviation from this prediction at lower Q2, indicating that contributions such as quark-gluon interactions may be important. Precision data obtained for g1(n) are consistent with next-to-leading order fits to world data.  相似文献

The total cross-section for production of hadrons by inelastic electron scattering at 3.2° from hydrogen and deuterium has been measured in the Q2 range 0.015 GeV2 to 0.1 GeV2, at virtual photon energies ranging from 2 GeV to 8.5 GeV. The transition to photoproduction is observed to be smooth, the ratio σDH being about 1.85 in this range. No evidence is seen for a conjectured rapid Q2-dependence of this ratio at low Q2.  相似文献

We obtain a relation between the longitudinal structure function F L(x, Q 2), F 2(x, Q 2) and G(x, Q 2) at small x, using the formalism recently reported by one of the authors [2]. We also obtain a relation between F L(x, Q 2), F 2(x, Q 2) and its slope (dF 2(x, Q 2))/(dlnQ 2). This provides us with the determination of the longitudinal structure function F L(x, Q 2) from F 2(x, Q 2) data and hence extract the gluon distribution G(x, Q 2).  相似文献

For a local amplitude we prove a one-to-one correspondence between properly defined scaling, the leading light-cone singularity and the asymptotic behaviour of the corresponding Jost-Lehmann spectral function in the sense of distribution theory. A model for the longitudinal structure function FL at low x and low Q2 is presented, which includes the kinematical constraint FL ~ Q4 as Q2 → 0. It is based on the photon-gluon fusion mechanism suitably extrapolated to the region of low Q2. The contribution of quarks having limited transverse momentum is treated phenomenologically assuming that it is described by the soft pomeron exchange mechanism. The ratio R = FL/(F2 ? FL), with the F2 appropriately extrapolated to the region of low Q2, is also discussed.  相似文献
