Secondary resonances of a slender, elastic, cantilevered beam subjected to a transverse harmonic load are investigated. The effects of nonlinear curvature, nonlinear inertia, viscous damping and static load are included. Cubic terms in the governing equations lead to subharmonic and superharmonic resonances of order three. The static displacement produced by the weight of the beam introduces quadratic terms in the governing equations, which cause subharmonic and superharmonic resonances of order two. Out-of-plane motion is possible in all of these secondary resonances when the principal moments of inertia of the beam cross section are approximately equal.  相似文献

Nonstationary excitations of slender, elastic, cantilevered beams with equal principal moments of inertia are considered. The excitation frequency is slowly increased or decreased through a resonance of the first mode at a constant rate. Three resonances are investigated: primary resonance, superharmonic resonance of order two and subharmonic resonance of order two. After application of Galerkin's method with three modes, the nonlinear, nonstationary response of the first mode of the beam is determined by two methods: integration of the modulation equations obtained from the method of multiple scales, and direct numerical integration of the temporal equations of motion. Time histories are presented and the effects of excitation amplitude, rate of acceleration or deceleration through resonance, damping and initial conditions of the disturbance on the maximum response are studied. The effect of a persistent random disturbance is also examined. Although the excitation acts in the vertical plane, whirling occurs if the beam is subjected to out-of-plane disturbances.  相似文献

The fundamental and subharmonic resonances of a nonlinear cyclic assembly are examined using the asymptotic method of multiple-scales. The system consists of a number of identical cantilever beams coupled by means of weak linear stiffnesses. Assuming beam inextensionality, geometric nonlinearities arise due to longitudinal inertia and the nonlinear relation between beam curvature and transverse displacement. The governing nonlinear partial differential equations are discretized by a Galerkin procedure and the resulting set of coupled ordinary differential equations is solved using an asymptotic analysis. The unforced assembly is known to possess localized nonlinear normal modes, which give rise to a very complicated topological structure of fundamental and subharmonic response curves. In contrast to the linear system which exhibits as many forced resonances as its number of degrees of freedom, the nonlinear system is found to possess a number of additional resonance branches which have no counterparts in linear theory. Some of the additional resonances are spatially localized, corresponding to motions of only a small subset of periodic elements. The analytical results are verified by numerical Poincaré maps, and the forced localization features of the nonlinear assembly are demonstrated by considering its response to impulsive excitations.  相似文献

Nonlinear coupling between torsional and both in-plane and out-of-plane flexural motion is examined for inextensional beams (or beam-like structures) whose torsional and flexural eigenfrequencies are of the same order. The analysis presented here is based on a consistent set of nonlinear differential equations which contain both curvature and inertia nonlinearities, and account for torsional dynamics. Response characteristics, including stability, are determined for cantilever beams subjected to a lateral periodic excitation. The beam's response in the presence of a one-to-one internal resonance involving a torsional frequency and an in-plane bending frequency is investigated in detail.  相似文献

A new HB (Harmonic Balance)/AFT (Alternating Frequency Time) method is further developed to obtain synchronous and subsynchronous whirling response of nonlinear MDOF rotor systems. Using the HBM, the nonlinear differential equations of a rotor system can be transformed to algebraic equations with unknown harmonic coefficients. A technique is applied to reduce the algebraic equations to only those of the nonlinear coordinates. Stability analysis of the periodic solutions is performed via perturbation of the solutions. To further reduce the computational time for the stability analysis, the reduced system parameters (mass, damping, and stiffness) are calculated in terms of the already known harmonic coefficients. For illustration, a simple MDOF rotor system with a piecewise-linear bearing clearance is used to demonstrate the accuracy of the calculated steady-state solutions and their bifurcation boundaries. Employing ideas from modern dynamics theory, the example MDOF nonlinear rotor system is shown to exhibit subsynchronous, quasi-periodic and chaotic whirling motions.  相似文献

The subharmonic resonance and bifurcations of a clamped-clamped buckled beam under base harmonic excitations are investigated. The nonlinear partial integrodifferential equation of the motion of the buckled beam with both quadratic and cubic nonlinearities is given by using Hamilton's principle. A set of second-order nonlinear ordinary differential equations are obtained by spatial discretization with the Galerkin method. A high-dimensional model of the buckled beam is derived, concerning nonlinear coupling. The incremental harmonic balance (IHB) method is used to achieve the periodic solutions of the high-dimensional model of the buckled beam to observe the nonlinear frequency response curve and the nonlinear amplitude response curve, and the Floquet theory is used to analyze the stability of the periodic solutions. Attention is focused on the subharmonic resonance caused by the internal resonance as the excitation frequency near twice of the first natural frequency of the buckled beam with/without the antisymmetric modes being excited. Bifurcations including the saddle-node, Hopf, perioddoubling, and symmetry-breaking bifurcations are observed. Furthermore, quasi-periodic motion is observed by using the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method, which results from the Hopf bifurcation of the response of the buckled beam with the anti-symmetric modes being excited.  相似文献

Nonlinear forced vibrations of in-plane translating viscoelastic plates subjected to plane stresses are analytically and numerically investigated on the steady-state responses in external and internal resonances. A nonlinear partial-differential equation with the associated boundary conditions governing the transverse motion is derived from the generalized Hamilton principle and the Kelvin relation. The method of multiple scales is directly applied to establish the solvability conditions in the primary resonance and the 3:1 internal resonance. The steady-state responses are predicted in two patterns: single-mode and two-mode solutions. The Routh?CHurvitz criterion is used to determine the stabilities of the steady-state responses. The effects of the in-plane translating speed, the viscosity coefficient, and the excitation amplitude on the steady-state responses are examined. The differential quadrature scheme is developed to solve the nonlinear governing equations numerically. The numerical calculations confirm the approximate analytical results regarding the single-mode solutions of the steady-state responses.  相似文献

The nonlinear dynamics of the same experimental model of an internally resonant hanging elastic cable considered in Part I [1] are addressed here from the point of view of the global system behaviour in the control parameter space. Synthetic results of systematic response measurements, made at different amplitudes of the support motion in frequency ranges including meaningful external resonance conditions, are reported and discussed. Attention is devoted to the detection of the most robust classes of motion. Quite complicated overall pictures of regular response regions with variable contributions from different planar and nonplanar cable modes are observed, as well as several regions of quasiperiodic and chaotic responses. Sample quantitative characterizations of nonregular motions are presented. Some experimental results are also observed against the background of the nonlinear dynamic phenomena exhibited by a theoretical model of a continuous cable with four-degrees-of-freedom.  相似文献

We investigate the nonlinear response of a clamped-clamped buckled beamto a primary-resonance excitation of its first vibration mode. The beamis subjected to an axial force beyond the critical load of the firstbuckling mode and a transverse harmonic excitation. We solve thenonlinear buckling problem to determine the buckled configurations as afunction of the applied axial load. A Galerkin approximation is used todiscretize the nonlinear partial-differential equation governing themotion of the beam about its buckled configuration and obtain a set ofnonlinearly coupled ordinary-differential equations governing the timeevolution of the response. Single- and multi-mode Galerkinapproximations are used. We found out that using a single-modeapproximation leads to quantitative and qualitative errors in the staticand dynamic behaviors. To investigate the global dynamics, we use ashooting method to integrate the discretized equations and obtainperiodic orbits. The stability and bifurcations of the periodic orbitsare investigated using Floquet theory. The obtained theoretical resultsare in good qualitative agreement with the experimental results obtainedby Kreider and Nayfeh (Nonlinear Dynamics 15, 1998, 155–177.  相似文献

This paper studies interactions of pipe and fluid and deals with bifurcations of a cantilevered pipe conveying a steady fluid, clamped at one end and having a nozzle subjected to nonlinear constraints at the free end. Either the nozzle parameter or the flow velocity is taken as a variable parameter. The discrete equations of the system are obtained by the Ritz-Galerkin method. The static stability is studied by the Routh criteria. The method of averaging is employed to examine the analytical results and the chaotic motions. Three critical values are given. The first one makes the system lose the static stability by pitchfork bifurcation. The second one makes the system lose the dynamical stability by Hopf bifurcation. The third one makes the periodic motions of the system lose the stability by doubling-period bifurcation. Super-harmonic resonances may appear in the forced response of a weakly nonlinear oscillator having cubic nonlinearity, when the forcing frequency is approximately equal to one-third of the linearized natural frequency. Under super-harmonic resonance conditions, the frequency-response curve of the amplitude of the free-oscillation terms may exhibit saddle-node bifurcations, jump and hysteresis phenomena. A linear vibration absorber is used to suppress the super-harmonic resonance response of a cubically nonlinear oscillator with external excitation. The absorber can be considered as a small mass-spring-damper oscillator and thus does not adversely affect the dynamic performance of the nonlinear primary oscillator. It is shown that such a vibration absorber is effective in suppressing the super-harmonic resonance response and eliminating saddle-node bifurcations and jump phenomena of the nonlinear oscillator. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the absorber in attenuating the super-harmonic resonance response.  相似文献

Periodic buckled beams possess a geometrically nonlinear, load–deformation relationship and intrinsic length scales such that stable, nonlinear waves are possible. Modeling buckled beams as a chain of masses and nonlinear springs which account for transverse and coupling effects, homogenization of the discretized system leads to the Boussinesq equation. Since the sign of the dispersive and nonlinear terms depends on the level of buckling and support type (guided or pinned), compressive supersonic, rarefaction supersonic, compressive subsonic and rarefaction subsonic solitary waves are predicted, and their existence is validated using finite element simulations of the structure. Large dynamic deformations, which cannot be approximated with a polynomial of degree two, lead to strongly nonlinear equations for which closed-form solutions are proposed.  相似文献

Forced vibrations of cylindrical shells described by a system of three ordinary differential equations are studied. There are two internal resonances. Standing and traveling waves in the shells are described by a system of six modulation equations derived using the multiple-scales method. This paper investigates the transverse 3:1 internal resonance of an axially transporting nonlinear viscoelastic Euler-Bernoulli beam with a two-frequency parametric excitation caused by a speed perturbation. The Kelvin-Voigt model is introduced to describe the viscoelastic characteristics of the axially transporting beam. The governing equation and the associated boundary conditions are obtained by Newton’s second law. The method of multiple scales is utilized to obtain the steady-state responses. The Routh-Hurwitz criterion is used to determine the stabilities and bifurcations of the steady-state responses. The effects of the material viscoelastic coefficient on the dynamics of the transporting beam are studied in detail by a series of numerical demonstrations. Interesting phenomena of the steady-state responses are revealed in the 3:1 internal resonance and two-frequency parametric excitation. The approximate analytical method is validated via a differential quadrature method.  相似文献

The nonlinear response of an initially buckled beam in the neighborhood of 1:1 internal resonance is investigated analytically, numerically, and experimentally. The method of multiple time scales is applied to derive the equations in amplitudes and phase angles. Within a small range of the internal detuning parameter, the first mode; which is externally excited, is found to transfer energy to the second mode. Outside this region, the response is governed by a unimodal response of the first mode. Stability boundaries of the unimodal response are determined in terms of the excitation level, and internal and external detuning parameters. Boundaries separating unimodal from mixed mode responses are obtained in terms of the excitation and internal detuning parameters. Stationary and non-stationary solutions are found to coexist in the case of mixed mode response. For the case of non-stationary response, the modulation of the amplitude depends on the integration increment such that the motion can be periodically or chaotically modulated for a choice of different integration increments. The results obtained by multiple time scales are qualitatively compared with those obtained by numerical simulation of the original equations of motion and by experimental measurements. Both numerical integration and experimental results reveal the occurrence of multifurcation, escaping from one well to the other in an irregular manner. and chaotic motion.  相似文献

Non-linear shooting and Adomian decomposition methods have been proposed to determine the large deflection of a cantilever beam under arbitrary loading conditions. Results obtained only due to end loading are validated using elliptic integral solutions. The non-linear shooting method gives accurate numerical results while the Adomian decomposition method yields polynomial expressions for the beam configuration. With high load parameters, occurrence of multiple solutions is discussed with reference to possible buckling of the beam-column. An example of concentrated intermediate loading (cantilever beam subjected to two concentrated self-balanced moments), for which no closed form solution can be obtained, is solved using these two methods. Some of the limitations and recipes to obviate these are included. The methods will be useful toward the design of compliant mechanisms driven by smart actuators.  相似文献

A homotopy analysis method(HAM)is presented for the primary resonance of multiple degree-of-freedom systems with strong non-linearity excited by harmonic forces. The validity of the HAM is independent of the existence of small parameters in the considered equation. The HAM provides a simple way to adjust and control the convergence region of the series solution by means of an auxiliary parameter. Two examples are presented to show that the HAM solutions agree well with the results of the modified Linstedt-Poincar'e method and the incremental harmonic balance method.  相似文献

In this paper, the planar dynamics of a nonlinearly constrained pipe conveying fluid is examined numerically, by considering the full nonlinear equation of motions and a refined trilinear-spring model for the impact constraints—completing the circle of several studies on the subject. The effect of varying system parameters is investigated for the two-degree-of-freedom (N=2) model of the system, followed by less extensive similar investigations forN=3 and 4. Phase portraits, bifurcation diagrams, power spectra and Lyapunov exponents are presented for a selected set of system parameters, showing some rather interesting, and sometimes unexpected, results. The numerical results are compared with experimental ones obtained previously. It is found that in the parameter space that includesN, there exists a subspace wherein excellent qualitative, and reasonably good (N=2) to excellent (N=4) quantitative agreement with experiment. In the latter case, excellent agreement is not only obtained in the threshold flow velocities (u) for the key bifurcations, but the inclusion of the nonlinear terms improves agreement with experiment in terms of amplitudes of motion and by capturing features of behaviour not hitherto predicted by theory.  相似文献
