Triterpene glycosides ofClimacoptera transoxana. III. The structures of copterosides E and F

New triterpene glycosides have been isolated from the epigeal part ofClimacoptera transoxana (Iljin) Botsch. — copterosides E and F. According to chemical transformations and physicochemical characteristics, copteroside E has the structure of oleanolic acid 28-O--D-glucopyranoside 3-O-{[O--D-xylopyranosyl-(12)]-[O--D-xylopyranosyl-(14)]--D-glucuronopyranoside} and copteroside F that that of hederagenin 28-O--D-glucopyranoside 3-O-{[O--D-xylopyranosyl-(12)]-[O--D-xylopyranosyl-(14)]--D-glucopyranoside}.Institute of the Chemistry of Plant Substances, Academy of Sciences of the Uzbek SSR, Tashkent. Comparative study on inclusion complexations of antiinflammatory drug flurbiprofen with β-cyclodextrin and methylated β-cyclodextrins

Abstruct Some physicochemical properties of methylated -cyclodextrins, i.e., heptakis(2,6-di-O-methyl)--cyclodextrin (DM--CyD) and heptakis(2,3,6-tri-O-methyl)--cyclodextrin (TM--CyD) were compared with those of natural -cyclodextrin (-CyD). Inclusion behaviors of -CyD and methylated -CyDs in water and in solid state were studied by solubility analysis, spectroscopies (UV, CD,¹³C-NMR and IR), X-ray diffractometry and thermal analysis, using an antiinflammatory drug flurbiprofen (FP) as a guest molecule. The spectral data suggest that the inclusion mode of FP-TM--CyD is somewhat different from those of FP--CyD and FP-DM--CyD. The solid complexes of FP with - and methylated -CyDs were obtained in molar ratio of 11, and their dissolution behavior and release from suppository base were examined. The data are presented suggesting that DM--CyD is particularly useful for improving the pharmaceutical properties of FP in various dosage forms.     

Chemistry and Structure of Diterpene Compounds of the Kaurane Series: IV.1 Acylation of Reduction Products of the Isosteviol Keto Group

Acetylation with acetic anhydride of (4,8,13)-16-hydroxy-13-methyl-17-norkaurane-18-carboxylic acid and its methyl ester, obtained by reduction of isosteviol and (4,8,13)-18-methoxycarbonyl-13-methyl-16-oxo-17-norkaurane, respectively, gives rise to (4,8,13)-16-acetoxy-13-methyl-17-norkaurane-18-carboxylic acid and (4,8,13)-16-acetoxy-18-methoxycarbonyl-13-methyl-17-norkaurane. The molecular and crystal structures of the compounds were established by X-ray diffraction.

Resonance energy transfer from Al2O3 to adsorbed N2O

Radiolysis of adsorbed N₂O is shown to occur due to both the dissociative capture of electrons and direct energy transfer from the excited states of alumina to N₂O. One excited state ensures the decomposition of three N₂O molecules.

Another new cardenolide glycoside has been isolated from the plantCheiranthus allioni Hort., and has been named glucocheiranthoside. Infrared spectra of nitric oxide adsorbed on photoreduced V/SiO2 catalyst

Studies of the IR spectra of surface species produced via NO adsorption on selectively photoreduced V/SiO₂ catalysts indicate that at low coverages NO is adsorbed on V³⁺ ions to form strongly bonded mononitrosyl species V³⁺...... NO. With increasing NO coverage, V³⁺ is oxidized to V⁴⁺, which is accompanied by the appearance of gaseous N₂O and weak adsorption of NO on V⁴⁺.

Reaction of dimethylaminomethylenemalonaldehyde bis-N,O-acetal with ketones. A novel route to N-methylpyrroles

Condensation of the bis-N,O-acetal of amethylarrtinomethylenerrzalonaldehyde with ketones, -dimethylaminovinylketones, and -dimethylaminodienones is accompanied by an unusual intramolecular cyclization to give cross conjugated cyclic or acylic ketones containing an N-methyl pyrrole ring in the - or - and'-positions. This is a novel route to substituted pyrroles. V2O5/TiO2 oxidation catalysts, III. Oxidation of CO on pure and sodium-doped systems

The activity of vanadia/titania catalysts in CO oxidation has been tested and found to be of the same order as that observed for unsupported vanadia; the simultaneous presence of vanadium-sodium compounds cancels the activity, probably because of the elimination of labile V=0 species at surface defects.

Nitroderivate vonβ,β,β-Trihalo-α,α-bis-(4-alkoxybzw. 4-oxy-phenyl)-äthanen

Zusammenfassung Auf Grund von Modellbetrachtungen wurde die Existenz der in der Literatur beschriebenenOctanitro-Derivate von ,,-Trihalo-,-bis-(4-alkoxy-phenyl)-äthanen in Zweifel gezogen. Entsprechende Untersuchungen ergaben, daß es sich bei ihnen umTetranitro-Verbindungen handelt und daß es nicht möglich ist, diese DDT-Analogen mehr als vierfach zu nitrieren. Die Konstitution der Tetranitro-Verbindungen wurde durch Abbau bewiesen: Beim ,,-Trichlor-,-bis-(3,5-dinitro-4-methoxy-phenyl)-äthan (II) durch Überführung in das entsprechende Keton (VII), beim ,,-Trichlor-,-bis-(3,5-dinitro-4-äthoxy-phenyl)-äthan (IV) durch Entalkylierung und Methylierung zu II. Der Beweis der 3,3, 5,5-Stellung der Nitrogruppen in II und IV ist auch für andere Tetranitro-Derivate von ,,-Trihalo-,-bis-(4-X-phenyl)-äthanen (X=Substituenten I. Ordnung) von Bedeutung.Mitt. Strong H2 chemisorption on Al2O3 or SiO2 supported group VIII metals

Following hydrogen treatments at high temperature a decrease in hydrogen chemisorption at room temperature is observed in almost all group VIII elements supported on SiO₂ or Al₂O₃. The effect is attributed to self inhibition by strongly chemisorbed hydrogen on the metals.

Prolonged release of drug from triacetyl-β-CyD complex for oral and rectal administration

Triacetyl--cyclodextrin (TA--CyD), a hydrophobic cyclodextrin derivative, that is insoluble in water, was used to form a complex with flufenamic acid (FA). FA-TA--CyD complex formation was demonstrated by differential scanning calorimetry and powder X-ray diffractometry. The release rate of FA from the FA-TA--CyD complexes in phosphate buffer pH 6.8 was significantly retarded compared to that of FA from the FA and glucose mixture. When the FA-TA--CyD complexes were administered directly into the intraduodenal lumen, the plasma concentration of FA remained at a plateau level (10-18 g/ml) for 6–8 h. An increased mean residence time of FA following FA-TA--CyD complexes administration was observed. These results indicate that TA--CyD may serve as a hydrophobic carrier in prolonged-release preparations of FA.

Solubility Study of Nimodipine Inclusion Complexation with α- and β-Cyclodextrin and some Substituted Cyclodextrins

The solubility of nimodipine was measured in aqueous solutions of the following cyclodextrins: -cyclodextrin (-CD), hydroxypropyl--CD (HP--CD), -cyclodextrin (-CD), random substituted methyl--CD (M--CD), three hydroxypropyl--CDs (HP--CD) with mutually different average degree of substitution, and hydroxypropyl--cyclodextrin (HP--CD). From the determined linear solubility diagrams the values of the binding constant K₁₁ of the inclusion complexes of nimodipine with the respective CDs were evaluated. The -CDs efficiently solubilized sparingly soluble nimodipine, the highest value of K₁₁ was found for M--CD (1680 M^-1), followed by -CD (550 M^-1) and HP--CDs, where the higher degree of substitution lowered K₁₁. Only slight solubilization of nimodipine was observed in the solutions of the -CDs and HP--CD.     

Acid-base properties of Al2O3/MgO oxides, II. Infrared study of adsorption of pyridine

Mixed oxides of alumina and magnesia were characterized by an IR study of pyridine adsorption. Three different Lewis acid sites, but no Brönsted acid sites were detected. The strongest adsorption sites are attributed to Al³⁺ cations of the alumina phase (1455 cm^–1), the weaker Lewis acid sites were assumed to be due to cations of the MgAl₂O₄ phase (1449–1443 cm^–1) and the MgO phase (1440–1438 cm^–1).

Hydrocarbon conversion over Pt?Re/Al2O3-ZSM-5 bifunctional catalysts. II. Sulfur resistance of Pt?Re/Al2O3 modified with ZSM-5

The sulfur resistance of Pt–Re/Al₂O₃-ZSM-5 catalyst has been investigated for normal heptane reforming. It was found that while sulfur acts as a poison for Pt–Re/Al₂O₃, it can play an important role in activity maintenance and aromatics production when ZSM-5 zeolite is present.

Steroid compounds of marine sponges. VII. Preparation of derivatives of sokotrasterol and halistanol sulfates and structure-activity interrelationships among these compounds

Five new sulfated derivatives of sokotrasterol and halistanol have been obtained: 24-nor-5-cholane-2,3,6,23-tetraol 2,3,6-tri(sodium sulfate); 24-nor-5-cholane-2,3,6,23-tetraol 2,3,6-tri(sodium sulfate) 23-palmitate; 24,25-dimethyl-5-cholestane-2,3,6-triol 3-(sodium sulfate); 24,25-dimethyl-5-cholestane-2,3,6-triol 6-(sodium sulfate); and 24,25-dimethyl-5-cholestane-2,3,6-triol 2,6-di(sodium sulfate). The inhibiting and membranolytic properties of the polysulfated steroids from sponges and their derivatives have been studied. IR spectra of oxygen adsorbed on SnO2

IR spectra of oxygen adsorbed on SnO₂ with and without lattice defects have been studied. At low temperatures oxygen is adsorbed on defect SnO₂ in two forms of O ₂ ^– . This supports the earlier results obtained by ESR. The low-temperature forms of adsorbed oxygen (unrevealed in ESR spectra) were detected on defectless SnO₂. High-temperature forms of adsorbed oxygen appear in the IR-spectra as bands due to vibrations of the cation-oxygen bond.

Polyhydroxylated steroids from the starfishPatiria pectinifera

By chromatography on Polikhrom-1, silica gel, and Florisil, an ethanolic extract of the digestive organs of the starfishPatiria pectinifera has yielded the steroid polyols 5-cholestan-3,6,8,15,16,26-hexaol and 5-cholestan-3,4,6,7,8,15,16,26-octaol 6-(sodium sulfate). Role of tin in a PtSb alloy and a Pt-Sn/Al2O3 reforming catalyst

The conversion of n-hexane was studied on a Pt-Sn/Al₂O₃ catalyst, a PtSn alloy and on the corresponding Pt catalysts. The results indicate the same catalytic effect of tin in supported and unsupported catalysts. It is concluded that the role of tin is connected with alloy formation.
