A longstanding open question of Connes asks whether any finite von Neumann algebra embeds into an ultraproduct of finite-dimensional matrix algebras.As of yet,algebras verified to satisfy the Connes’s embedding property belong to just a few special classes (e.g.,amenable algebras and free group factors).In this article,we prove that von Neumann algebras satisfying Popa’s co-amenability have Connes’s embedding property. 相似文献

We investigate the amenability of skew field extensions of the complex numbers. We prove that all skew fields of finite Gelfand-Kirillov transcendence degree are amenable. However there are both amenable and non-amenable finitely generated skew fields of infinite Gelfand-Kirillov transcendence degree.

When A is a von Neumann algebra, the set of all weakly closed linear subspaces forms a Gelfand quantale, Maxw A. We prove that Maxw A is a von Neumann quantale for all von Neumann algebras A. The natural morphism from Maxw A to the Hilbert quantale on the lattice of weakly closed right ideals of A is, in general, not an isomorphism. However, when A is a von Neumann factor, its restriction to right-sided elements is an isomorphism and this leads to a new characterization of von Neumann factors. 相似文献

We prove that the notion of rigidity (or relative property (T)) for inclusions of finite von Neumann algebras recently defined by the second author is equivalent to a weaker property, in which no “continuity constants” are required. It is known that for an amenable locally compact group , is not in the weak closure of of . In this paper, it is proved that the converse of this is true. In other words, if is a non-amenable locally compact group, then is in the weak closure of . This answers several questions of Ülger. Applications to the algebra and the dual of the reduced group -algebra are obtained.

Let H be a Hilbert space with dim H≥2 and Z∈ß(H) be an arbitrary but fixed operator. In this paper we show that an additive map Φ:ß(H) → ß(H) satisfies Φ(AB)=Φ(A)B=AΦ(B) for any A,B∈ß(H) with AB=Z if and only if Φ(AB)=Φ(A)B=AΦ(B), ∀A, B∈ß(H), that is, Φ is a centralizer. Similar results are obtained for Hilbert space nest algebras. In addition, we show that Φ(A2)=AΦ(A)=Φ(A)A for any A∈ ß(H) with AA2=0 if and only if Φ(A)=AΦ(I)=Φ(I)A, ∀A∈ß(H), and generalize main results in Linear Algebra and its Application, 450, 243-249 (2014) to infinite dimensional case. We study the approximation numbers of weighted composition operators on the Hardy space on the unit disc. For general classes of such operators, upper and lower bounds on their approximation numbers are derived. For the special class of weighted lens map composition operators with specific weights, we show how much the weight w can improve the decay rate of the approximation numbers, and give sharp upper and lower bounds. These examples are motivated from applications to the analysis of relative commutants of special inclusions of von Neumann algebras appearing in quantum field theory (Borchers triples). 相似文献
