算子代数的斜积

引入了算子代数的一种新运算"斜积",证明了在这个新定义的斜积运算下算子代数的自反性保持不变.研究发现,斜积运算对应的子空间格是拓扑意义下的格的直积关系.这个新发现的重要意义在于由此可从已知的自反子空间格生成更多更复杂的新自反格,从而得到新的自反代数.在此基础上,本文对KS-代数保持性等其他非自伴代数类的性质也作了相应研究.     

Co-amenability and Connes’s embedding problem

A longstanding open question of Connes asks whether any finite von Neumann algebra embeds into an ultraproduct of finite-dimensional matrix algebras.As of yet,algebras verified to satisfy the Connes’s embedding property belong to just a few special classes (e.g.,amenable algebras and free group factors).In this article,we prove that von Neumann algebras satisfying Popa’s co-amenability have Connes’s embedding property.     

Strong connectedness of the invertibles in a finite subdiagonal algebra

Suppose is a finite, subdiagonal subalgebra of a von Neumann algebra. We show that the invertible group of is strongly connected.

     

The amenability and non-amenability of skew fields

We investigate the amenability of skew field extensions of the complex numbers. We prove that all skew fields of finite Gelfand-Kirillov transcendence degree are amenable. However there are both amenable and non-amenable finitely generated skew fields of infinite Gelfand-Kirillov transcendence degree.

     

Products of projections in von Neumann algebras

We describe the elements of von Neumann algebras which can be represented as products of orthogonal projections and idempotents, and estimate the minimal number of terms in the product.     

Von Neumann Algebras and Hilbert Quantales

When A is a von Neumann algebra, the set of all weakly closed linear subspaces forms a Gelfand quantale, Max_w A. We prove that Max_w A is a von Neumann quantale for all von Neumann algebras A. The natural morphism from Max_w A to the Hilbert quantale on the lattice of weakly closed right ideals of A is, in general, not an isomorphism. However, when A is a von Neumann factor, its restriction to right-sided elements is an isomorphism and this leads to a new characterization of von Neumann factors.     

On the notion of relative property (T) for inclusions of von Neumann algebras

We prove that the notion of rigidity (or relative property (T)) for inclusions of finite von Neumann algebras recently defined by the second author is equivalent to a weaker property, in which no “continuity constants” are required. The proof is by contradiction and uses infinite products of completely positive maps, regarded as correspondences.

On maximal injective subalgebras of tensor products of von Neumann algebras

Let Mi be a von Neumann algebra, and Bi be a maximal injective von Neumann subalgebra of Mi, i=1,2. If M₁ has separable predual and the center of B₁ is atomic, e.g., B₁ is a factor, then is a maximal injective von Neumann subalgebra of . This partly answers a question of Popa.     

The weak closure of the set of left translation operators

It is known that for an amenable locally compact group , is not in the weak closure of of . In this paper, it is proved that the converse of this is true. In other words, if is a non-amenable locally compact group, then is in the weak closure of . This answers several questions of Ülger. Applications to the algebra and the dual of the reduced group -algebra are obtained.

     

Equivalent characterization of centralizers on <Emphasis Type="Italic">B</Emphasis>(<Emphasis Type="Italic">H</Emphasis>)

Let H be a Hilbert space with dim H≥2 and Z∈ß(H) be an arbitrary but fixed operator. In this paper we show that an additive map Φ:ß(H) → ß(H) satisfies Φ(AB)=Φ(A)B=AΦ(B) for any A,B∈ß(H) with AB=Z if and only if Φ(AB)=Φ(A)B=AΦ(B), ∀A, B∈ß(H), that is, Φ is a centralizer. Similar results are obtained for Hilbert space nest algebras. In addition, we show that Φ(A²)=AΦ(A)=Φ(A)A for any A∈ ß(H) with AA²=0 if and only if Φ(A)=AΦ(I)=Φ(I)A, ∀A∈ß(H), and generalize main results in Linear Algebra and its Application, 450, 243-249 (2014) to infinite dimensional case. New equivalent characterization of centralizers on ß(H) is obtained.

A note on cocycle-conjugate endomorphisms of von Neumann algebras

We show that two cocycle-conjugate endomorphisms of an arbitrary von Neumann algebra that satisfy certain stability conditions are conjugate endomorphisms, when restricted to some specific von Neumann subalgebras. As a consequence of this result, we obtain a new criterion for conjugacy of Powers shift endomorphisms acting on factors of type

     

Approximation numbers of weighted composition operators

We study the approximation numbers of weighted composition operators $f?w?(f°\phi )$ on the Hardy space $H^2$ on the unit disc. For general classes of such operators, upper and lower bounds on their approximation numbers are derived. For the special class of weighted lens map composition operators with specific weights, we show how much the weight w can improve the decay rate of the approximation numbers, and give sharp upper and lower bounds. These examples are motivated from applications to the analysis of relative commutants of special inclusions of von Neumann algebras appearing in quantum field theory (Borchers triples).     

On ＂Problems on von Neumann Algebras by R. Kadison, 1967＂

A brief summary of the development on Kadison‘s famous problems (1967) is given. A new set of problems in von Neumann algebras is listed.     

Lie Triple Derivations on von Neumann Algebras

Let A be a von Neumann algebra with no central abelian projections. It is proved that if an additive map δ :A → A satisfies δ([[a, b], c]) = [[δ(a), b], c] + [[a, δ(b)], c] +[[a, b], δ(c)] for any a, b, c∈ A with ab = 0(resp. ab = P, where P is a fixed nontrivial projection in A), then there exist an additive derivation d from A into itself and an additive map f :A → ZA vanishing at every second commutator [[a, b], c] with ab = 0(resp.ab = P) such that δ(a) = d(a) + f(a) for any a∈ A.
