A Hybrid Approach to Scheduling with Earliness and Tardiness Costs   总被引:9,自引:0,他引:9
A hybrid technique using constraint programming and linear programming is applied to the problem of scheduling with earliness and tardiness costs. The linear model maintains a set of relaxed optimal start times which are used to guide the constraint programming search heuristic. In addition, the constraint programming problem model employs the strong constraint propagation techniques responsible for many of the advances in constraint programming for scheduling in the past few years. Empirical results validate our approach and show, in particular, that creating and solving a subproblem containing only the activities with direct impact on the cost function and then using this solution in the main search, significantly increases the number of problems that can be solved to optimality while significantly decreasing the search time.  相似文献

We develop and investigate the performance of a hybrid solution framework for solving mixed-integer linear programming problems. Benders decomposition and a genetic algorithm are combined to develop a framework to compute feasible solutions. We decompose the problem into a master problem and a subproblem. A genetic algorithm along with a heuristic are used to obtain feasible solutions to the master problem, whereas the subproblem is solved to optimality using a linear programming solver. Over successive iterations the master problem is refined by adding cutting planes that are implied by the subproblem. We compare the performance of the approach against a standard Benders decomposition approach as well as against a stand-alone solver (Cplex) on MIPLIB test problems.  相似文献

Regulation of Overlaps in Technology Development Activities   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6
In this paper, we present an algorithm for the solution of multiparametric mixed integer linear programming (mp-MILP) problems involving (i) 0-1 integer variables, and, (ii) more than one parameter, bounded between lower and upper bounds, present on the right hand side (RHS) of constraints. The solution is approached by decomposing the mp-MILP into two subproblems and then iterating between them. The first subproblem is obtained by fixing integer variables, resulting in a multiparametric linear programming (mp-LP) problem, whereas the second subproblem is formulated as a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) problem by relaxing the parameters as variables.  相似文献

In this paper we are concerned with the subproblem of bin packing, where the set of possible weights of elements is finite. In [5] it was mentioned that this problem could be solved by an exhaustive search procedure in polynomial time, but the degree of the polynomial is high and increases as the cardinality of the set of weights increases. However, we will show that a more careful analysis of the problem leads to a linear time algorithm. The impact of this result on task scheduling is discussed.  相似文献

This paper addresses the problem of scheduling ambulance crews in order to maximize the coverage throughout a planning horizon. The problem includes the subproblem of locating ambulances to maximize expected coverage with probabilistic response times, for which a tabu search algorithm is developed. The proposed tabu search algorithm is empirically shown to outperform previous approaches for this subproblem. Two integer programming models that use the output of the tabu search algorithm are constructed for the main problem. Computational experiments with real data are conducted. A comparison of the results of the models is presented.  相似文献

Constraint Programming (CP) has been successful in a number of combinatorial search and discrete optimisation problems. Yet other more traditional approaches, such as Integer Programming (IP), can still give a better performance on the same problem types. Central to IP's success is its reliance on a fast Linear Programming (LP) solver providing solutions during the search to the corresponding relaxed problems. These solutions are used to guide the search within IP as well as a means of detecting infeasibility and integrality. This paper shows that there is scope also to include LP within the CP framework, in order to similarly guide the CP search. The problems examined here are one for which CP on its own had proved markedly inferior to IP. Hence a hybrid solver based on the CP search and using an LP solver is configured and run on these problems. The outcome shows that using the LP solver within the CP search is a valuable addition to the available search strategies. An improved performance over the CP-only strategies is obtained and, further, comparable results are obtained to those from IP. Overall, CP+LP can be considered as a more robust approach than either CP or IP on their own on a variety of combinatorial search problems.  相似文献

This paper surveys recent applications and advances of the constraint programming-based column generation framework, where the master subproblem is solved by traditional OR techniques, while the pricing subproblem is solved by constraint programming (CP). This framework has been introduced to solve crew assignment problems, where complex regulations make the pricing subproblem demanding for traditional techniques, and then it has been applied to other contexts. The main benefits of using CP are the expressiveness of its modeling language and the flexibility of its solvers. Recently, the CP-based column generation framework has been applied to many other problems, ranging from classical combinatorial problems such as graph coloring and two dimensional bin packing, to application oriented problems, such as airline planning and resource allocation in wireless ad hoc networks.   相似文献

In this paper, a class of general nonlinear programming problems with inequality and equality constraints is discussed. Firstly, the original problem is transformed into an associated simpler equivalent problem with only inequality constraints. Then, inspired by the ideals of the sequential quadratic programming (SQP) method and the method of system of linear equations (SLE), a new type of SQP algorithm for solving the original problem is proposed. At each iteration, the search direction is generated by the combination of two directions, which are obtained by solving an always feasible quadratic programming (QP) subproblem and a SLE, respectively. Moreover, in order to overcome the Maratos effect, the higher-order correction direction is obtained by solving another SLE. The two SLEs have the same coefficient matrices, and we only need to solve the one of them after a finite number of iterations. By a new line search technique, the proposed algorithm possesses global and superlinear convergence under some suitable assumptions without the strict complementarity. Finally, some comparative numerical results are reported to show that the proposed algorithm is effective and promising.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a new Dantzig–Wolfe decomposition for degenerate linear programs with the non degenerate constraints in the master problem and the degenerate ones in the subproblem. We propose three algorithms. The first one, where some set of variables of the original problem are added to the master problem, corresponds to the Improved Primal Simplex algorithm (IPS) presented recently by Elhallaoui et al. [7]. In the second one, some extreme points of the subproblem are added as columns in the master problem. The third algorithm is a mixed implementation that adds some original variables and some extreme points of a subproblem to the master problem. Experimental results on some degenerate instances show that the proposed algorithms yield computational times that are reduced by an average factor ranging from 3.32 to 13.16 compared to the primal simplex of CPLEX.  相似文献

We study piecewise decomposition methods for mathematical programs with equilibrium constraints (MPECs) for which all constraint functions are linear. At each iteration of a decomposition method, one step of a nonlinear programming scheme is applied to one piece of the MPEC to obtain the next iterate. Our goal is to understand global convergence to B-stationary points of these methods when the embedded nonlinear programming solver is a trust-region scheme, and the selection of pieces is determined using multipliers generated by solving the trust-region subproblem. To this end we study global convergence of a linear trust-region scheme for linearly-constrained NLPs that we call a trust-search method. The trust-search has two features that are critical to global convergence of decomposition methods for MPECs: a robustness property with respect to switching pieces, and a multiplier convergence result that appears to be quite new for trust-region methods. These combine to clarify and strengthen global convergence of decomposition methods without resorting either to additional conditions such as eventual inactivity of the trust-region constraint, or more complex methods that require a separate subproblem for multiplier estimation.   相似文献

This paper presents the Local Search with SubProblem Exact Resolution (LSSPER) method based on large neighbourhood search for solving the resource-constrained project scheduling problem (RCPSP). At each step of the method, a subpart of the current solution is fixed while the other part defines a subproblem solved externally by a heuristic or an exact solution approach (using either constraint programming techniques or mathematical programming techniques). Hence, the method can be seen as a hybrid scheme. The key point of the method deals with the choice of the subproblem to be optimized. In this paper, we investigate the application of the method to the RCPSP. Several strategies for generating the subproblem are proposed. In order to evaluate these strategies, and, also, to compare the whole method with current state-of-the-art heuristics, extensive numerical experiments have been performed. The proposed method appears to be very efficient.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the duty scheduling of sensor activities in wireless sensor networks to maximize the lifetime. We address full target coverage problems contemplating sensors used for sensing data and transmit it to the base station through multi-hop communication as well as sensors used only for communication purposes. Subsets of sensors (also called covers) are generated. Those covers are able to satisfy the coverage requirements as well as the connection to the base station. Thus, maximum lifetime can be obtained by identifying the optimal covers and allocate them an operation time. The problem is solved through a column generation approach decomposed in a master problem used to allocate the optimal time interval during which covers are used and in a pricing subproblem used to identify the covers leading to maximum lifetime. Additionally, Branch-and-Cut based on Benders’ decomposition and constraint programming approaches are used to solve the pricing subproblem. The approach is tested on randomly generated instances. The computational results demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed approach to solve the maximum network lifetime problem in wireless sensor networks with up to 500 sensors.  相似文献

The personnel staffing problem calculates the required workforce size and is determined by constructing a baseline personnel roster that assigns personnel members to duties in order to cover certain staffing requirements. In this research, we incorporate the planning of the duty demand in the staff scheduling problem in order to lower the staffing costs. More specifically, the demand originates from a project scheduling problem with discrete time/resource trade-offs, which embodies additional flexibility as activities can be executed in different modes. In order to tackle this integrated problem, we propose a decomposed branch-and-price procedure. A tight lower and upper bound are calculated using a problem formulation that models the project scheduling constraints and the time-related resource scheduling constraints implicitly in the decision variables. Based upon these bounds, the strategic problem is decomposed into multiple tactical subproblems with a fixed workforce size and an optimal solution is searched for each subproblem via branch-and-price. Fixing the workforce size in a subproblem facilitates the definition of resource capacity cuts, which limit the set of eligible project schedules, decreasing the size of the branching tree. In addition, in order to find the optimal integer solution, we propose a specific search strategy based upon the lower bound and dedicated rules to branch upon the workload generated by a project schedule. The computational results show that applying the proposed search space decomposition and the inclusion of resource capacity cuts lead to a well-performing procedure outperforming different other heuristic and exact methodologies.  相似文献

This paper considers a stochastic version of the linear continuous type knapsack problem in which the cost coefficients are random variables. The problem is to find an optimal solution and an optimal probability level of the chance constraint. This problem P0 is first transformed into a deterministic equivalent problem P. Then a subproblem with a positive parameter is introduced and a close relation between P and its subproblem is shown. Further, an auxiliary problem of the subproblem is introduced and a direct relation between P and the auxiliary problem is derived through a relation connecting the subproblem and its auxiliary problem. Fully utilizing these relations, an efficient algorithm is proposed that finds an optimal solution of P in at most O(n4) computational time where n is the number of decision variables. Finally, further research problems are discussed.  相似文献

A typical railway crew scheduling problem consists of two phases: a crew pairing problem to determine a set of crew duties and a crew rostering problem. The crew rostering problem aims to find a set of rosters that forms workforce assignment of crew duties and rest periods satisfying several working regulations. In this paper, we present a two-level decomposition approach to solve railway crew rostering problem with the objective of fair working condition. To reduce computational efforts, the original problem is decomposed into the upper-level master problem and the lower-level subproblem. The subproblem can be further decomposed into several subproblems for each roster. These problems are iteratively solved by incorporating cuts into the master problem. We show that the relaxed problem of the master problem can be formulated as a uniform parallel machine scheduling problem to minimize makespan, which is NP-hard. An efficient branch-and-bound algorithm is applied to solve the master problem. Effective valid cuts are developed to reduce feasible search space to tighten the duality gap. Using data provided by the railway company, we demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method compared with that of constraint programming techniques for large-scale problems through computational experiments.  相似文献

1. Introductioncrust region methods are iterative. As a strategy of globalization, the trust region approach was introduced into solving unconstrained optimization and proved to be efficient androbust. An excellent survey was given by Mor6(1983). The associated research with trustregion methods for unconstrained optimization can be found in Fletcher(1980), Powell(1975),Sorensen(1981), Shultz, Schnabel and Byrd(1985), Yuan(1985). The solution of the trust region subproblem is still an activ…  相似文献

Generalizations of the well-known simplex method for linear programming are available to solve the piecewise linear programming problem and the linear fractional programming problem. In this paper we consider a further generalization of the simplex method to solve piecewise linear fractional programming problems unifying the simplex method for linear programs, piecewise linear programs, and the linear fractional programs. Computational results are presented to obtain further insights into the behavior of the algorithm on random test problems.  相似文献

The piecewise perturbation methods (PPM) have proven to be very efficient for the numerical solution of the linear time-independent Schr?dinger equation. The underlying idea is to replace the potential function piecewisely by simpler approximations and then to solve the approximating problem. The accuracy is improved by adding some perturbation corrections. Two types of approximating potentials were considered in the literature, that is piecewise constant and piecewise linear functions, giving rise to the so-called CP methods (CPM) and LP methods (LPM). Piecewise polynomials of higher degree have not been used since the approximating problem is not easy to integrate analytically. As suggested by Ixaru (Comput Phys Commun 177:897–907, 2007), this problem can be circumvented using another perturbative approach to construct an expression for the solution of the approximating problem. In this paper, we show that there is, however, no need to consider PPM based on higher-order polynomials, since these methods are equivalent to the CPM. Also, LPM is equivalent to CPM, although it was sometimes suggested in the literature that an LP method is more suited for problems with strongly varying potentials. We advocate that CP schemes can (and should) be used in all cases, since it forms the most straightforward way of devising PPM and there is no advantage in considering other piecewise polynomial perturbation methods.  相似文献

The multiple-choice multidimensional knapsack problem (MMKP) is a well-known NP-hard combinatorial optimization problem with a number of important applications. In this paper, we present a “reduce and solve” heuristic approach which combines problem reduction techniques with an Integer Linear Programming (ILP) solver (CPLEX). The key ingredient of the proposed approach is a set of group fixing and variable fixing rules. These fixing rules rely mainly on information from the linear relaxation of the given problem and aim to generate reduced critical subproblem to be solved by the ILP solver. Additional strategies are used to explore the space of the reduced problems. Extensive experimental studies over two sets of 37 MMKP benchmark instances in the literature show that our approach competes favorably with the most recent state-of-the-art algorithms. In particular, for the set of 27 conventional benchmarks, the proposed approach finds an improved best lower bound for 11 instances and as a by-product improves all the previous best upper bounds. For the 10 additional instances with irregular structures, the method improves 7 best known results.  相似文献

We study a single machine scheduling problem with availability constraints and sequence-dependent setup costs, with the aim of minimizing the makespan. To the authors’ knowledge, this problem has not been treated as such in the operations research literature. We derive in this paper a mixed integer programming model to deal with such scheduling problem. Computational tests showed that commercial solvers are capable of solving only small instances of the problem. Therefore, we propose two ways for reducing the execution time, namely a valid inequality that strengthen the linear relaxation and an efficient heuristic procedure that provides a starting feasible solution to the solver. A substantial gain is achieved both in terms of the linear programming relaxation bound and in terms of the time to obtain an integer optimum when we use the enhanced model in conjunction with providing to the solver the solution obtained by the proposed heuristic.  相似文献
