We consider the approximation by piecewise-constant functions for classes of functions of many variables defined by moduli of continuity of the form (1, ..., n ) = 1(1) + ... + n ( n ), where i ( i ) are ordinary moduli of continuity that depend on one variable. In the case where i ( i ) are convex upward, we obtain exact error estimates in the following cases: (i) in the integral metric L 2 for (1, ..., n ) = 1(1) + ... + n ( n ); (ii) in the integral metric L p (p 1) for (1, ..., n ) = c 11 + ... + c n n ; (iii) in the integral metric L (2, ..., 2, 2r) (r = 2, 3, ...) for (1, ..., n ) = 1(1) + ... + n – 1( n – 1) + c n n .  相似文献

This article is the first in a series of three articles that discuss a particular class of minihypers and its applications. Proving that for small and < N, a {v + 1, v ; N, q}-minihyper consists of a sum of -spaces, we show that the excess points of an s-cover with excess of PG(N, q), (s + 1)|(N + 1), form a sum of s-spaces, and that no maximal partial s-spreads with deficiency of PG(N, q), (s + 1)|(N + 1), exist. The case q square will be studied in greater detail in [7] and further applications of these classification results on this class of minihypers will be published in [8].  相似文献

For n2 we consider the Stokes problem in n, -u + p=f, -divu=g, in weighted Soboiev spaces H 6 m,r , where the weights are proportional to (1+|x|). We prove the existence of weak solutions for any K, whereK is a discrete set of critical values. Let 1, 2, ... be a sequence of independent identically distributed random variables with zero means. We consider the functional n = k=o n (S k ) where S1=0, Sk= i=1 k i (k1) and(x)=1 for x0,(x) = 0 for x<0. It is readily seen that n is the time spent by the random walk Sn, n0, on the positive semi-axis after n steps. For the simplest walk the asymptotics of the distribution P (n = k) for n and k, as well as for k = O(n) and k/n<1, was studied in [1]. The main objective of this article is to study the topology of the fibers of a generic rational function of the type in the projective space of dimension two. We will prove that the action of the monodromy group on a single Lefschetz vanishing cycle generates the first homology group of a generic fiber of . In particular, we will prove that for any two Lefschetz vanishing cycles 0 and 1 in a regular compact fiber of , there exists a mondromyh such thath( 0)=± 1.Partially supported by CNPq-Brazil.  相似文献

We consider the equation (pu)-qu+wu = f in (0,1) subject to homogenous boundary conditions at x = 0 and x = 1, e.g., u(0) = u(1) = 0. Let 1 be the first eigenvalue of the corresponding Sturm-Liouville problem. If f 0 but 0 then it is known that there exists > 0 (independent on f) such that for (1, 1 + ] any solution u must be negative. This so-called uniform anti-maximum principle (UAMP) goes back to Clément, Peletier [4]. In this paper we establish the sharp values of for which (UAMP) holds. The same phenomenon, including sharp values of , can be shown for the radially symmetric p-Laplacian on balls and annuli in n provided 1 n < p. A previous result of the author is that if k 2, G isk-connected and every connected subgraphH ofG of order has at leastn +k 2 + 1/k + 1 – vertices outsideH adjacent to at least one vertex ofH, thenG contains aD -cycle. Here it is conjectured that k-connected can be replaced by k-cyclable, and this is proved fork = 3. As a consequence it is shown that ifn 4 – 6, or ifG is triangle-free andn 8 – 10, thenG contains aD 3-cycle orG , where denotes a well-known class of nonhamiltonian graphs of connectivity 2. As an analogue of a result of Nash-Williams it follows that ifn 4 – 6 and – 1, thenG is hamiltonian orG . The results are all best possible and compare favorably with recent results on hamiltonicity of graphs which are close to claw-free.  相似文献

Summary We study a class of generalized gamma functions k (z) which relate to the generalized Euler constants k (basically the Laurent coefficients of(s)) as (z) does to the Euler constant. A new series expansion for k is derived, and the constant term in the asymptotic expansion for log k (z) is studied in detail. For a ring R and a right R-module M, a submodule N of M is said to be -small in M if, whenever N + X = M with M/X singular, we have X = M. If there exists an epimorphism p: P M such that P is projective and Ker(p) is -small in P, then we say that P is a projective -cover of M. A ring R is called -perfect (resp., -semiperfect, -semiregular) if every R-module (resp., simple R-module, cyclically presented R-module) has a projective -cover. The class of all -perfect (resp., -semiperfect, -semiregular) rings contains properly the class of all right perfect (resp., semiperfect, semiregular) rings. This paper is devoted to various properties and characterizations of -perfect, -semiperfect, and -semiregular rings. We define (R) by (R)/Soc(RR) = Jac(R/Soc(RR)) and show, among others, the following results:
(1) (R) is the largest -small right ideal of R.
(2) R is -semiregular if and only if R/(R) is a von Neumann regular ring and idempotents of R(R) lift to idempotents of R.
(3) R is -semiperfect if and only if R/(R) is a semisimple ring and idempotents of R/(R) lift to idempotents of R.
(4) R is -perfect if and only if R/Soc(RR) is a right perfect ring and idempotents of R/(R) lift to idempotents of R.

Summary The stability of time-periodic thermal oscillations in a slab with chemical reaction is examined. One surface is at a fixed temperature and the temperature of the other varies with amplitude and frequency. The reaction, which is of zero-order, is characterised by the Frank-Kamenetskii parameter(,,), where(=RT 0/E) is the activation energy parameter. Perturbation series in and are used to calculate the critical values crit; for crit the slab can support time-periodic temperature oscillations.
Zusammenfassung Die Stabilität von zeitperiodischen thermischen Schwingungen in einem Stab mit chemischer Reaktion wird untersucht. Eine Oberfläche hat eine feste Temperatur und auf der anderen verändert sich die Temperatur mit der Amplitude und der Frequenz. Die Reaktion der Ordnung null, wird vom Frank-Kamenetskii Parameter(,,) bestimmt, wobei(=RT 0/E) der Aktivierungs-Energie Parameter ist. Reihenentwicklungen in und werden für die Berechnung des kritischen Wertes crit benützt; für crit können im Stab zeitperiodische Temperaturschwingungen bestehen.

A theorem of Lovász asserts that (H)/*(H)r/2 for everyr-partite hypergraphH (where and * denote the covering number and fractional covering number respectively). Here it is shown that the same upper bound is valid for a more general class of hypergraphs: those which admit a partition (V 1, ...,V k ) of the vertex set and a partitionp 1+...+p k ofr such that |eV i |p i r/2 for every edgee and every 1ik. Moreover, strict inequality holds whenr>2, and in this form the bound is tight. The investigation of the ratio /* is extended to some other classes of hypergraphs, defined by conditions of similar flavour.
