Certain aspects of wave propagation and the dynamic reaction of a granular material when subjected to a long-duration impulse load are studied. In the majority of studies published on this subject the unsteady pressure behavior at the end-wall covered by a layer of granular material was observed and documented. However, up to now little attention was given to explaining the physical mechanism of this process. Experimental results, obtained in the course of this study, regarding the pressure fields inside granular layers of different materials, clearly show that the compaction effect strongly depends on the characteristics of the medium. This phenomenon manifests itself by changing the gas-particle interaction in the course of the gas filtration, and by variation in the contribution of the different forces and effective stress, σ, to the energy exchange between the gas, the particles and the shock-tube wall. The material permeability,  f, the relative density, ν, and the particle response time, τ p , are the most important parameters affecting the stress formation at the end-wall covered by the granular layer. In addition to the effect of the material parameters, the effective stress, σ, was found to strongly depend on the granular layer height, h. Based on detailed pressure measurements a qualitative analysis regarding the role of the particle rearrangement in the formation of the unsteady peak at the end-wall was performed. The phenomenology of the particle–particle interaction includes rotation and consolidation of the granules and movement or sliding of particle planes within the layer over each other. Most of these processes are frictional in their nature. They are related to the energy losses and affect the profile and magnitude of the compressive stress as measured at the shock-tube end-wall covered by the granular layer.  The design and performance of a new pulse-expansion wave tube for nucleation studies at high pressures are described. The pulse-expansion wave tube is a special shock tube in which a nucleation pulse is formed at the endwall of the high pressure section. The nucleation pulse is due to reflections of the initial shock wave at a local widening situated in the low pressure section at a short distance from the diaphragm. The nucleation pulse has a duration of the order of 200 μs, while nucleation pressures that can be achieved range from 1 to 50 bar total pressure. Droplet size and droplet number density can accurately be determined by a 90°-Mie light scattering method and a light extinction method. The range of nucleation rates that can be measured is 108 cm-3 s-1<J<1011 cm-3 s-1. We will illustrate the functioning and possibilities of the new pulse-expansion wave tube by nucleation rate measurements in the gas-vapour mixture nitrogen/water in the temperature range 200–260 K, and in the mixture methane/n-nonane as a function of supersaturation S at various total pressures up to 40 bar and temperatures around 240 K. An experimental study and a numerical simulation were conducted to investigate the mechanical and thermodynamic processes involved in the interaction between shock waves and low density foam. The experiment was done in a stainless shock tube (80 mm in inner diameter, 10 mm in wall thickness and 5 360 mm in length). The velocities of the incident and reflected compression waves in the foam were measured by using piezo-ceramic pressure sensors. The end-wall peak pressure behind the reflected wave in the foam was measured by using a crystal piezoelectric sensor. It is suggested that the high end-wall pressure may be caused by a rapid contact between the foam and the end-wall surface. Both open-cell and closed-cell foams with different length and density were tested. Through comparing the numerical and experimental end-wall pressure, the permeability coefficients α and β are quantitatively determined. 相似文献

One-dimensional interaction between a planar shock wave and a rubber or low-porosity foam is investigated experimentally and numerically. The considered polyurethane foam is of high density (ρ c=290 kg/m3) and lowporosity (ϕ=0.76), and this corresponds to an intermediate condition between rubber and high-porosity foam. Stress-strain relations for the low-porosity foam are investigated by machine tests, which show larger deformation against compressive force and higher non-linearity in stress-strain curve as compared with rubber. Also the low-porosity foam shows a hysteresis cycle. Experiments on shock wave-foam interactions are conducted by using a shock tube. Experimental time history of the surface stress of the foam at the end of the shock tube does not show shock type stress increase, but continuous excessive stress rise can be seen, and then dumping vibration approaching to gas dynamic pressure of the reflected shock wave is followed, and the highest stress amounts about 3∼4 times of the pressure after the reflected gas dynamic shock wave. Interactive motions of gas and the low-porosity foam are analyzed using the Lagrangean coordinates system. An elastic model for a low-porosity foam is assumed to be a single elastic material with the measured stress-strain relation. Results of numerical simulations are compared with the shock tube experiments, which show essentially same stress variations with experimental results. 相似文献

This paper presents the electromagnetic wave propagation characteristics in plasma and the attenuation coefficients of the microwave in terms of the parameters he, v, w, L, wb. The φ800 mm high temperature shock tube has been used to produce a uniform plasma. In order to get the attenuation of the electromagnetic wave through the plasma behind a shock wave, the microwave transmission has been used to measure the relative change of the wave power. The working frequency is f = (2-35)GHz (ω=2πf, wave length A =15cm-8mm). The electron density in the plasma is ne = (3×10^10-1×10^14) cm^-3. The collision frequency v = (1×10^8-6×10^10) Hz. The thickness of the plasma layer L = (2-80)cm. The electron circular frequency ωb=eBo/me, magnetic flux density B0 = (0-0.84)T. The experimental results show that when the plasma layer is thick (such as L/λ≥10), the correlation between the attenuation coefficients of the electromagnetic waves and the parameters ne,v,ω, L determined from the measurements are in good agreement with the theoretical predictions of electromagnetic wave propagations in the uniform infinite plasma. When the plasma layer is thin (such as when both L and A are of the same order), the theoretical results are only in a qualitative agreement with the experimental observations in the present parameter range, but the formula of the electromagnetic wave propagation theory in an uniform infinite plasma can not be used for quantitative computations of the correlation between the attenuation coefficients and the parameters ne,v,ω, L. In fact, if ω<ωp, v^2<<ω^2, the power attenuations K of the electromagnetic waves obtained from the measurements in the thin-layer plasma are much smaller than those of the theoretical predictions. On the other hand, if ω>ωp, v^2<<ω^2 (just v≈f), the measurements are much larger than the theoretical results. Also, we have measured the electromagnetic wave power attenuation value under the magnetic field and without a magnetic field. The result indicates that the value measured under the magnetic field shows a distinct improvement. 相似文献

Results of one-dimensional numerical simulations of the parameters of the converging strong shock wave generated by electrical underwater explosions of a cylindrical wire array with different array radii and different deposited energies are presented. It was shown that for each wire array radius there exists an optimal duration of the energy deposition into the exploding array, which allows one to maximize the shock wave pressure and temperature in the vicinity of the implosion axis. The simulation results agree well with the 130-GPa pressure in the vicinity of the implosion axis that was recently obtained, which strongly indicates the azimuthal symmetry of the converging shock wave at these extreme conditions. Also, simulations showed that using a pulsed power generator with a stored energy of ~200 kJ, the pressure and temperature at the shock wave front reaches ~220 GPa and 1.7 eV at 0.1 mm from the axis of implosion in the case of a 2.5 mm radius wire array explosion. It was found that, in spite of the complicated equation of state of water, the maximum pressure at the shock wave front at radius r can be estimated as P ≈ (P*(r*/r) α , where P* is the known value of pressure at the shock wave front at radius r* ≥ r and α is a parameter that equals 0.62±0.02. A rough estimate of the implosion parameters of the hydrogen target after the interaction with the converging strong shock wave is presented as well. 相似文献

The equations governing the head-on collision of a planar shock wave with a cellular material and a numerical scheme for solving the set of the governing equations were outlined. In addition, the condition for the transmitted compression waves to transform into a shock wave, inside the cellular material was introduced. It was proved analytically that a cellular material cannot be used as a means of reducing the pressure load acting on the end-wall of the shock tube. In subsequent papers, the interaction of planar shock waves with specific cellular materials, e.g., foams and honeycombs will be described in detail. This article was processed using Springer-Verlag TEX Shock Waves macro package 1.0 and the AMS fonts, developed by the American Mathematical Society. 相似文献

This report describes a new method for measuring the temperature of the gas behind the reflected shock wave in shock tube, corresponding to the reservoir temperature of a shock tunnel, based on the chemical reaction of small amount of CF4 premixed in the test gas. The final product C2F4 is used as the temperature indicator, which is sampled and detected by a gas chromatography in the experiment. The detected concentration of C2F4 is correlated to the temperature of the reflected shock wave with the initial pressureP 1 and test time τ as parameters in the temperature range 3 300 K<T<5 600 K, pressure range 5 kPa<P 1<12 kPa and τ≅0.4 ms. A simplified theoretic method and numerical simulations were carried out to investigate the characterization of propagation of transverse shock wave at wedge supported oblique detonation wave. After solution validation,a criterion which is associated with the ratio Φ (u 2 /u CJ) of existence or inexistence of the transverse shock wave at the region of the primary triple was deduced systematically by 38 cases. It is observed that for abrupt oblique shock wave (OSW)/oblique detonation wave (ODW) transition,a transverse shock wave is generated at the region of the primary triple when Φ < 1,however,such a transverse shock wave does not take place for the smooth OSW/ODW transition when Φ > 1.The parameter Φ can be expressed as the Mach number behind the ODW front for stable CJ detonation. When 0.9 < Φ < 1.0,the reflected shock wave can pass across the contact discontinuity and interact with transverse waves which are originating from the ODW front. When 0.8 < Φ < 0.9,the reflected shock wave can not pass across the contact discontinuity and only reflects at the contact discontinuity. The condition (0.8 < Φ < 0.9) agrees well with the ratio (D ave /D CJ) in the critical detonation. 相似文献

Results of an experimental investigation of the characteristics of a separation region induced by the interaction of an externally generated oblique shock with the turbulent boundary layer formed in a rectangular half channel are discussed. The experiments were carried out in the supersonic wind tunnel of the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics SB RAS at a free-stream Mach number M =3.01 over a range of Reynolds numbers Re 1=(9.7–47.5)×106 m-1 and at zero incidence and zero yaw of the model. Particular attention is paid to the size of the zone of the upstream propagation of disturbances (upstream influence region) under different experimental conditions: with varied values of the shock wave strength, half channel width, and Reynolds number. It is shown, in particular, that the normalized upstream influence region length as a function of inclination angle of the shock generator in a rectangular half channel is readily approximated by a simple exponential function. In support of the known reference data obtained for supersonic numbers M and moderate Re in other configurations, it is also shown that the upstream influence region length decreases with increasing Reynolds number. Generalization of experimental data on the length of the upstream influence region formed in similar geometric configurations is possible using an additional reference linear scale which is the distance from the leading edge of the shock generator to the exposed surface. A substantial dependence of the reference dimensions of separation region on the half channel width is also established. Received: 20 January 1997/Accepted: 30 June 1997 相似文献

Different methods for measurement of strong underwater shock waves pressure pulses with peak pressures of up to 200 MPa and rise time of tens to hundreds of nanoseconds are described and compared. The experimental techniques include direct methods of pressure measurement using various electromechanical gauges such as quartz, carbon-based, and commercially available PCB gauges, and nondirect methods based on measurement of the velocity of the shock wave such as time-of-flight and fast-streak photography. Advantages and disadvantages of the used gauges and methods are discussed. The shock waves were produced by underwater electrical discharge (discharge current amplitude ≤100 kA, pulse duration ≤5 μs) initiated by an exploding wire. A good correspondence between the pressure amplitudes measured by the various gauges and methods was observed. The obtained dependence of the shock wave pressure on the distance from the discharge channel was found to be best fitted by a r −0.7 law. It is also shown that none of these methods can be used to determine the time evolution of the pressure behind the front of the shock wave. 相似文献

The stability of shock wave based on the definition of Landau and Lifschitz[1] is treated in this paper. This is tantamount to solving the problem of interaction of small disturbances with a shock wave. Small disturbances are introduced on both sides of a steady, non-dissipative, plane shock wave. Landau et al.[1] obtained the stability criterionM 1>1,M 2<1 for small disturbances which are travelling in the direction perpendicular to the shock wave. In the present paper, we assume that the small disturbances may be two dimensional, i.e. they may be propagating in the direction inclined to the shock wave. The conclusions obtained are: regardless of whether the incident wave and diverging wave are defined according to the direction of the phase velocity or the group velocity, the shock wave is unstable for some frequencies and longitudinal wave lengths of the disturbances, even if the conditionsM 1>1,M 2<1 are fulfilled. Then several experiments are proposed, and the problem of ways to define the incident wave and diverging wave is discussed. The meaning of this problem is illustrated. The same results can be obtained for the steady shock wave in a tube. 相似文献

Non-Newtonian fluid flow through porous media is of considerable interest in several fields, ranging from environmental sciences to chemical and petroleum engineering. In this article, we consider an infinite porous domain of uniform permeability k and porosity f{\phi} , saturated by a weakly compressible non-Newtonian fluid, and analyze the dynamics of the pressure variation generated within the domain by an instantaneous mass injection in its origin. The pressure is taken initially to be constant in the porous domain. The fluid is described by a rheological power-law model of given consistency index H and flow behavior index n; n, < 1 describes shear-thinning behavior, n > 1 shear-thickening behavior; for n = 1, the Newtonian case is recovered. The law of motion for the fluid is a modified Darcy’s law based on the effective viscosity μ ef , in turn a function of f, H, n{\phi, H, n} . Coupling the flow law with the mass balance equation yields the nonlinear partial differential equation governing the pressure field; an analytical solution is then derived as a function of a self-similar variable ηrt β (the exponent β being a suitable function of n), combining spatial coordinate r and time t. We revisit and expand the work in previous papers by providing a dimensionless general formulation and solution to the problem depending on a geometrical parameter d, valid for plane (d = 1), cylindrical (d = 2), and semi-spherical (d = 3) geometry. When a shear-thinning fluid is considered, the analytical solution exhibits traveling wave characteristics, in variance with Newtonian fluids; the front velocity is proportional to t (n-2)/2 in plane geometry, t (2n-3)/(3−n) in cylindrical geometry, and t (3n-4)/[2(2−n)] in semi-spherical geometry. To reflect the uncertainty inherent in the value of the problem parameters, we consider selected properties of fluid and matrix as independent random variables with an associated probability distribution. The influence of the uncertain parameters on the front position and the pressure field is investigated via a global sensitivity analysis evaluating the associated Sobol’ indices. The analysis reveals that compressibility coefficient and flow behavior index are the most influential variables affecting the front position; when the excess pressure is considered, compressibility and permeability coefficients contribute most to the total response variance. For both output variables the influence of the uncertainty in the porosity is decidedly lower. 相似文献

Time-resolved stereo particle-image velocimetry (TR-SPIV) and unsteady pressure measurements are used to analyze the unsteady flow over a supercritical DRA-2303 airfoil in transonic flow. The dynamic shock wave–boundary layer interaction is one of the most essential features of this unsteady flow causing a distinct oscillation of the flow field. Results from wind-tunnel experiments with a variation of the freestream Mach number at Reynolds numbers ranging from 2.55 to 2.79 × 106 are analyzed regarding the origin and nature of the unsteady shock–boundary layer interaction. Therefore, the TR-SPIV results are analyzed for three buffet flows. One flow exhibits a sinusoidal streamwise oscillation of the shock wave only due to an acoustic feedback loop formed by the shock wave and the trailing-edge noise. The other two buffet flows have been intentionally influenced by an artificial acoustic source installed downstream of the test section to investigate the behavior of the interaction to upstream-propagating disturbances generated by a defined source of noise. The results show that such upstream-propagating disturbances could be identified to be responsible for the upstream displacement of the shock wave and that the feedback loop is formed by a pulsating separation of the boundary layer dependent on the shock position and the sound pressure level at the shock position. Thereby, the pulsation of the separation could be determined to be a reaction to the shock motion and not vice versa. 相似文献

Summary Heat flux, wall heat transfer coefficients, and wall pressures are determined for high velocity flow of gas-solid mixtures in a converging-diverging nozzle. Flow separation accompanied with oblique shock formation occurs in the diverging section of the nozzle. The shock strength is reduced upon the addition of solid particles. The wall pressure in the convergent section of the nozzle appears unaffected by the presence of solid particles. In the divergent section, however, the wall pressure is slightly lowered. At the maximum ratio of solid to air flow used in the experiments (3.7) increases in the heat transfer rate of up to 20 and 50 percent are obtained in the convergent and separated (divergent) regions of the nozzle, respectively. Slightly larger increases in the wall heat transfer coefficients are also obtained. It is concluded that the wall heat flux and heat transfer coefficients are influenced strongly by the presence of disturbances upstream of the nozzle inlet.Nomenclature W a air flow rate - W s solids flow rate - x axial distance from nozzle entrance - L axial length of nozzle - specific heat ratio of fluid - A e exit cross section of flow - A * throat cross section of flow - P 0 inlet pressure - P s wall separation pressure - P a ambient exhaust pressure - shock wave angle - shock wave deflection angle - M 1 Mach number upstream of shock wave - Mach number normal to shock wave - q heat flux - k f thermal conductivity of fluid - T wi inside wall temperature - T wo outside wall temperature - T ad adiabatic wall temperature - h wall heat transfer coefficient - C nozzle constant - A local cross section of flow - c p specific heat of fluid - Pr Prandtl number - viscosity of fluid - r c throat radius of curvature - factor accounting for variation of and Units absolute temperature °R(ankine) °F+459.7 - conductivity 1 BTU (hr ft °F)–1 4.137×10–3 cal (s cm °C)–1 - specific heat 1 BTU (1b °F)–1 1 cal (g °C)–1 - absolute pressure 1 psia 0.0680 atm Supported in part by aid provided by the UCLA Space Science Center (Grant NsG 236-62 Libby).Listed for readers not familiar with the units adopted in this paper (editor). 相似文献

The existence and characteristics of shock wave triple points are examined. The analysis utilizes a single flow plane for the three shocks and is local to the triple point. It applies when the flow is unsteady, three-dimensional, and the upstream flow is nonuniform. Under more restrictive conditions, a relation is also derived for the ratio of the curvature of the Mach stem to that of the reflected shock. For given values of the ratio of specific heats, γ, and the upstream Mach number, M 1, a solution window is established. A parametric set of solutions is generated within the window for γ = 1, 1.4, and 5/3 and for 16 values of M 1 ranging from solution onset to M 1 = 6.A solution can be one of three types, these stem from the velocity tangency condition along the slip stream. Topics are addressed such as solution multiplicity, shock wave and slip stream orientation, the nature of the reflected wave (weak, strong, inverted, normal), the nature of the Mach stem (weak, strong, normal), and differences due to changes in γ and M 1. 相似文献

The characteristics of travelling perturbations of density in a hypersonic shock layer on a flat plate for the Mach number M=21 and unit Reynolds numberRe 1=6·105 m−1 were experimentally studied by the method of electron-beam fluorescence. The perturbations were generated by interaction of the shock layer behind an oblique gas-dynamic whistle and the leading edge of the plate. The cases of unsteady and quasi-steady interaction were considered. In both cases, vortex disturbances of finite amplitude were generated. The measurements were performed at the fundamental frequency F=0.6·10−4 and at the harmonic; the streamwise phase velocities, the growth rates of the disturbances, and the angles of wave propagation were obtained. The measurement results are compared with some experimental data for subsonic flows, some particular results of the linear stability theory for compressible flows, and the results obtained on the basis of a simple model of the nonlinear stage of disturbance evolution in a hypersonic boundary layer.
