We study a single species of fermionic atoms in an "effective" magnetic field at total filling factor ν(f)=1, interacting through a p-wave Feshbach resonance, and show that the system undergoes a quantum phase transition from a ν(f)=1 fermionic integer quantum Hall state to ν(b)=1/4 bosonic fractional quantum Hall state as a function of detuning. The transition is in the (2+1)D Ising universality class. We formulate a dual theory in terms of quasiparticles interacting with a Z(2) gauge field and show that charge fractionalization follows from this topological quantum phase transition. Experimental consequences and possible tests of our theoretical predictions are discussed.  相似文献

We provide numerical evidence that a p(x)-ip(y) paired Bonderson-Slingerland (BS) non-Abelian hierarchy state is a strong candidate for the observed ν=12/5 quantum Hall plateau. We confirm the existence of a gapped incompressible ν=12/5 quantum Hall state with shift S=2 on the sphere, matching that of the BS state. The exact ground state of the Coulomb interaction at S=2 is shown to have a large overlap with the BS trial wave function. Larger overlaps are obtained with BS-type wave functions that are hierarchical descendants of general p(x)-ip(y) weakly paired states at ν=5/2. We perform a finite-size scaling analysis of the ground-state energies for ν=12/5 states at shifts corresponding to the BS (S=2) and 3-clustered Read-Rezayi (S=-2) universality classes. This analysis reveals very tight competition between these two non-Abelian topological orders.  相似文献

By studying the critical phenomena in continuum-percolation of discs, we find a new approach to locate the critical point, i.e.using the inflection point of P_∞ as an evaluation of the percolation threshold. The susceptibility, defined as the derivative of P_∞, possesses a finite-size scaling property, where the scaling exponent is the reciprocal of ν, the critical exponent of the correlation length.A possible application of this approach to the study of the critical phenomena in relativistic heavy ion collisions is discussed. The critical point for deconfinement can be extracted by the inflection point of P_(QGP)-the probability for the event with QGP formation. The finite-size scaling of its derivative can give the critical exponent ν, which is a rare case that can provide an experimental measure of a critical exponent in heavy ion collisions.  相似文献

A growing interest exists currently in the analysis of time series by the complex network theory. Here we present a simple and quick way for mapping time series to complex networks. Using a simple rule allows us to transform time series into a textual sequence then we divide it into words with fixed size. Distinct words are nodes of the network, and we have complete control on the network scale by adjusting the word size. Two nodes are linked if their associated words co-occur in sequence. We show that the network topological measures quantify the persistence and the long range correlations in fractional Brownian processes. For a particular word size we assume some relations between the topological measures and the Hurst exponent which characterised the persistence in fractional Brownian processes.  相似文献

We study a star lattice with Rashba spin-orbit coupling and an exchange field and find that there is a quantum anomalous Hall effect in this system, and that there are five energy gaps at Dirac points and quadratic band crossing points. We calculate the Berry curvature distribution and obtain the Hall conductivity (Chern number ν) quantized as integers, and find that ν?=-?1,2,1,1,2 when the Fermi level lies in these five gaps. Our model can be viewed as a general quantum anomalous Hall system and, in limit cases, can give what the honeycomb lattice and kagome lattice give. We also find that there is a nearly flat band with ν?=?1 which may provide an opportunity for realizing the fractional quantum anomalous Hall effect. Finally, the chiral edge states on a zigzag star lattice are given numerically, to confirm the topological property of this system.  相似文献

By defining a topological constraint value(rn),the static and dynamic properties of a polymer brush composed of moderate or short chains with different topological ring structures are studied using molecular dynamics simulation, and a comparison with those of linear polymer brush is also made. For the center-of-mass height of the ring polymer brush scaled by chain length h~N~v,there is no significant difference of exponent from that of a linear brush in the small topological constraint regime. However,as the topological constraint becomes stronger, one obtains a smaller exponent. It is found that there exists a master scaling power law of the total stretching energy scaled by chain length N for moderate chain length regime,F_(ene)~Np~v,for ring polymer brushes, but with a larger exponent v than 5/6,indicating an influence of topological constraint to the dynamic properties of the system.A topological invariant of free energy scaled by(c)~(5/4) is found.  相似文献

We discuss generalizations of quantum spin Hamiltonians using anyonic degrees of freedom. The simplest model for interacting anyons energetically favors neighboring anyons to fuse into the trivial ("identity") channel, similar to the quantum Heisenberg model favoring neighboring spins to form spin singlets. Numerical simulations of a chain of Fibonacci anyons show that the model is critical with a dynamical critical exponent z=1, and described by a two-dimensional (2D) conformal field theory with central charge c=7/10. An exact mapping of the anyonic chain onto the 2D tricritical Ising model is given using the restricted-solid-on-solid representation of the Temperley-Lieb algebra. The gaplessness of the chain is shown to have topological origin.  相似文献

Three-dimensional topological insulators have protected Dirac-cone surface states. In this Letter we argue that gapped excitonic superfluids with spontaneous coherence between top and bottom surfaces can occur in the topological insulator (TI)-thin-film quantum Hall regime. We find that the large dielectric constants of TI materials increase the layer separation range over which coherence survives and decrease the superfluid sound velocity, but have little influence on the superfluid density or on the charge gap. The coherent state at total Landau-level filling factor νT=0 is predicted to be free of edge modes, qualitatively altering its transport phenomenology compared to the widely studied case of νT=1 in GaAs double-quantum wells.  相似文献

High precision data from a variety of sources forSU(2) andSU(3) Wilson action lattice gauge theory are analyzed with respect to the hypothesis of the possible existence of a zero temperature deconfining phase transition, in analogy with theU(1) theory. The internal energy, specific heat, string tension, and Wilson line, fit well to correlation length scaling laws associated with a finite order transition occurring at the weak coupling end of the crossover region for both theories. TheSU(2) theory is consistent with a correlation length exponent ν=2/3 and critical pointβ c ≈2.47. ForSU(3) the data fit well to ν=1 andβ c ≈6.69. Additional indirect evidence for the existence of such phase transitions is discussed, as is the possible crucial role of light dynamical fermions in the confinement mechanism.  相似文献

Inspired by the recent theoretical discovery of robust fractional topological phases without a magnetic field, we search for the non-abelian quantum Hall effect in lattice models with topological flat bands. Through extensive numerical studies on the Haldane model with three-body hard-core bosons loaded into a topological flat band, we find convincing numerical evidence of a stable ν=1 bosonic non-abelian quantum Hall effect, with the characteristic threefold quasidegeneracy of ground states on a torus, a quantized Chern number, and a robust spectrum gap. Moreover, the spectrum for two-quasihole states also shows a finite energy gap, with the number of states in the lower-energy sector satisfying the same counting rule as the Moore-Read pfaffian state.  相似文献

We study the localization properties of electrons in a two-dimensional system in a random magnetic field B(r)=B0+δB(r) with the average B0 and the amplitude of the magnetic field fluctuations δB. The localization length of the system is calculated by using the finite-size scaling method combined with the transfer-matrix technique. In the case of weak δB, we find that the random magnetic field system is equivalent to the integer quantum Hall effect system, namely, the energy band splits into a series of disorder broadened Landau bands, at the centers of which states are extended with the localization length exponent ν=2.34±0.02. With increasing δB, the extended states float up in energy, which is similar to the levitation scenario proposed for the integer quantum Hall effect.  相似文献

We experimentally test the universality of the Anderson three dimensional metal-insulator transition, using a quasiperiodic atomic kicked rotor. Nine sets of parameters controlling the microscopic details have been tested. Our observation indicates that the transition is of second order, with a critical exponent independent of the microscopic details; the average value 1.63±0.05 agrees very well with the numerically predicted value ν=1.58.  相似文献

We find a series of possible continuous quantum phase transitions between fractional quantum Hall states at the same filling fraction in two-component quantum Hall systems. These can be driven by tuning the interlayer tunneling and/or interlayer repulsion. One side of the transition is the Halperin (p,p,p-3) Abelian two-component state, while the other side is the non-Abelian Z4 parafermion (Read-Rezayi) state. We predict that the transition is a continuous transition in the 3D Ising class. The critical point is described by a Z2 gauged Ginzburg-Landau theory. These results have implications for experiments on two-component systems at ν=2/3 and single-component systems at ν=8/3.  相似文献

Transport by normal diffusion can be decomposed into hydrodynamic modes which relax exponentially toward the equilibrium state. In chaotic systems with 2 degrees of freedom, the fine scale structures of these modes are singular and fractal, characterized by a Hausdorff dimension given in terms of Ruelle's topological pressure. For long-wavelength modes, we relate the Hausdorff dimension to the diffusion coefficient and the Lyapunov exponent. This relationship is tested numerically on two Lorentz gases, one with hard repulsive forces, the other with attractive, Yukawa forces. The agreement with theory is excellent.  相似文献

We present experimental data and a theoretical interpretation of the conductance near the metal-insulator transition in thin ferromagnetic Gd films of thickness b ≈ 2-10 nm. A large phase relaxation rate caused by scattering of quasiparticles off spin-wave excitations renders the dephasing length L(?) ? b in the range of sheet resistances considered, so that the effective dimension is d = 3. The conductivity data at different stages of disorder obey a fractional power-law temperature dependence and collapse onto two scaling curves for the metallic and insulating regimes, indicating an asymmetric metal-insulator transition with two distinctly different critical exponents; the best fit is obtained for a dynamical exponent z ≈ 2.5 and a correlation (localization) length critical exponent ν- ≈ 1.4 (ν+ ≈ 0.8) on the metallic (insulating) side.  相似文献

We investigate the stability of the topological phase of the toric code model in the presence of a uniform magnetic field by means of variational and high-order series expansion approaches. We find that when this perturbation is strong enough, the system undergoes a topological phase transition whose first- or second-order nature depends on the field orientation. When this transition is of second order, it is in the Ising universality class except for a special line on which the critical exponent driving the closure of the gap varies continuously, unveiling a new topological universality class.  相似文献

We define a two-dimensional topological Yang-Mills theory for an arbitrary compact simple Lie group. This theory is defined in terms of intersection theory on the moduli space of flat connections on a two-dimensional surface and corresponds physically to a two-dimensional reduction and truncation of four-dimensional topological Yang-Mills theory. Two-dimensional topological Yang-Mills theory defines a topological matter system and may be naturally coupled to two-dimensional topological gravity. This topological Yang-Mills theory is also closely related to Chern-Simons gauge theory in 2 + 1 dimensions. We also discuss a relation between SL (2, ) Chern-Simons theory and two-dimensional topological gravity.  相似文献

We describe a topological string theory which reproduces many aspects of the 1/N expansion of SU(N) Yang-Mills theory in two spacetime dimensions in the zero coupling (A= 0) limit. The string theory is a modified version of topological gravity coupled to a topological sigma model with spacetime as target. The derivation of the string theory relies on a new interpretation of Gross and Taylor's “Ω-1 points ”. We describe how inclusion of the area, coupling of chiral sectors, and Wilson loop expectation values can be incorporated in the topological string approach.
