In order to better understand the structure of indecomposable projective Mackey functors, we study extension groups of degree 1 between simple Mackey functors. We explicitly determine these groups between simple functors indexed by distinct normal subgroups. We next study the conditions under which it is possible to restrict ourselves to that case, and we give methods for calculating extension groups between simple Mackey functors which are not indexed by normal subgroups. We then focus on the case where the simple Mackey functors are indexed by the same subgroup. In this case, the corresponding extension group can be embedded in an extension group between modules over a group algebra, and we describe the image of this embedding. In particular, we determine all extension groups between simple Mackey functors for a p-group and for a group that has a normal p-Sylow subgroup. Finally, we compute higher extension groups between simple Mackey functors for a group that has a p-Sylow subgroup of order p.  相似文献

In the first part, we prove that the dominion (in the sense of Isbell) of a subgroup of a finitely generated nilpotent group is trivial in the category of all nilpotent groups. A subgroupH of an analytic groupG is said to beanalytically dense if the only analytic subgroup ofG containingH isG itself. The main purpose of this paper is to give sufficient conditions onG (analogous to those of [8], [9], and [7] in the case of Zariski density) which guarantee the analytic density of cofinite volume subgroupsH. First we consider the case of arbitrary cofinite volume subgroups (Theorem 5 and its corollaries). Then we specialize to lattices, and prove the following result (Theorem 8):Let G be an analytic group whose radical is simply connected and whose Levi factor has no compact part and a finite center. Then any lattice in G is analytically dense. In proving this use is made of a result of Montgomery which also implies that for any simply connected solvable group, cocompactness of a closed subgroup implies analytic density. In the case of a solvable group with real roots this means analytic density and cocompactness are equivalent and thus completes a circle of ideas raised in Saito [13]. In Corollary 9 we deal with a related local condition. Finally in Theorem 10 and its corollaries we apply these considerations to prove a homomorphism extension theorem and an isomorphism theorem for 1-dimensional cohomology.  相似文献

In the first part of the paper we give a construction of a topological degree theory for set-valued tangent vector fields with convex and nonconvex values defined on nonsmooth closed subsets of a Banach space. The obtained homotopy invariant is an extension of the classical degree for vector fields on manifolds. In the second part we propose a fixed-point index for inward maps on arbitrary closed convex sets.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the question of how much information is supplied by local solutions to a global embedding problem for the special case in which the normal subgroup belonging to the given group extension is the projective symplectic group PSp(2m, q). It is proved that for suitable Galois extensions K of a given number field k (which constitute part of the data of the embedding problem), the local solutions in a sense determine whether or not an extension K ? K, Galois over k, with G(LK) ≈ PSp(2m, q), represents a global solution to the embedding problem.  相似文献

In the first part of this paper we compute the Witt ring kernel for an arbitrary field extension of degree 4 and characteristic different from 2 in terms of the coefficients of a polynomial determining the extension. In the case where the lower field is not formally real we prove that the intersection of any power n of its fundamental ideal and the Witt ring kernel is generated by n-fold Pfister forms.In the second part as an application of the main result we give a criterion for the tensor product of quaternion and biquaternion algebras to have zero divisors. Also we solve the similar problem for three quaternion algebras.In the last part we obtain certain exact Witt group sequences concerning dihedral Galois field extensions. These results heavily depend on some similar cohomological results of Positselski, as well as on the Milnor conjecture, and the Bloch-Kato conjecture for exponent 2, which was proven by Voevodsky.  相似文献

本文研究在自然扩张和嵌入下特殊线性群和一般线性群的有限子群的McKay 箭图间的关系. 我们证明在特定条件下, 一般线性群GL(m;C) 的有限子群G的McKay 箭图是其正规子群G∩SL(m;C)的McKay 箭图的正则覆盖, 而当把G 嵌入SL(m+1;C) 时, 新的McKay 箭图由在原来的McKay 箭图的每一顶点加上一个由其Nakayama 平移到其自身的箭向得到. 作为例子, 我们指出如何用这些方法得到一些有趣的McKay 箭图.  相似文献

Let H be a subgroup of the multiplicative group of a finite field. In this note we give a method for constructing permutation polynomials over the field using a bijective map from H to a coset of H. It is well known that the normality of subgroups plays an important part in the research of group theory. So it is reasonable to investigate the structure of a group by using normalizers of some kind of subgroups. We study the unilateral shift (of arbitrary countable multiplicity) as a Hilbert module over the disc algebra and the associated extension groups. In relation with the problem of determining whether this module is projective, we consider a special class of extensions, which we call polynomial. We show that the subgroup of polynomial extensions of a contractive module by the adjoint of the unilateral shift is trivial. The main tool is a function theoretic decomposition of the Sz.-Nagy–Foias model space for completely non-unitary contractions.  相似文献

First, we give some explicit formulas of principal series Whittaker functions on the real symplectic group of rank 2 with arbitrary one-dimensional K-types. These formulas are extension of Ishii??s formulas for Whittaker functions with minimal K-types. Secondly, we compute explicit formulas of the holonomic system for the radial part of Whittaker functions with peripheral K-types belonging to the generalized principal series representations induced from the Siegel maximal parabolic subgroup (i.e., P S-series). Thirdly, we derive eight power series solutions for our holonomic system utilizing the embedding of the P S-series into various principal series, from the power series Whittaker functions belonging to the principal series.  相似文献

We study the intermediate extension of the character sheaves on an adjoint group to the semi-stable locus of its wonderful compactification. We show that the intermediate extension can be described by a direct image construction. As a consequence, we show that the “ordinary” restriction of a character sheaf on the compactification to a “semi-stable stratum” is a shift of semisimple perverse sheaf and is closely related to Lusztig's restriction functor (from a character sheaf on a reductive group to a direct sum of character sheaves on a Levi subgroup). We also provide a (conjectural) formula for the boundary values inside the semi-stable locus of an irreducible character of a finite group of Lie type, which gives a partial answer to a question of Springer (2006) [21]. This formula holds for Steinberg character and characters coming from generic character sheaves. In the end, we verify Lusztig's conjecture Lusztig (2004) [16, 12.6] inside the semi-stable locus of the wonderful compactification.  相似文献

Roger W. Richardson proved that any parabolic subgroup of a complex semisimple Lie group admits an open dense orbit in the nilradical of its corresponding parabolic subalgebra. In the case of complex symmetric spaces we show that there exist some large classes of parabolic subgroups for which the analogous statement which fails in general, is true. Our main contribution is the extension of a theorem of Peter E. Trapa (in 2005) to real semisimple exceptional Lie groups.

In the first part we prove an extension of the Chern-Lashof inequality for noncompact immersed manifolds with finitely many ends. For this we give a lower bound of the total absolute curvature in terms of topological invariants of the manifold. In the second part we discuss tightness properties for such immersions. Finally, we give an upper bound for the substantial codimension.
