The dynamics of the quantum-statistical properties of the radiation of an atom in a cavity interacting with an external coherent field is investigated. A high level of quantum fluctuations of the field in the cavity is shown to destroy optical bistability in the multiatom case. Photon-number fluctuations and the spectral dispersion of the canonically conjugate quadratures of the field inside and outside a cavity are calculated. It is found that in contrast to the multiatom case quadrature squeezing and squeezing of the radiation intensity of a single atom are negligible inside and outside the cavity. Zh. éksp. Teor. Numerical integrations of the Langevin-equation for the fluctuating light-field in a nonlinear resonator are presented. As an xample, the nonlinearity of the two-photon resonance of the excitonic molecule in semiconductors is treated. Time-dependent switching processes and the response of the system to nonstationary incident fields are investigated with the technique of molecular dynamics simulations. Using many independent realizations of the stochastic process, the time-dependence of the field dostribution function is determined. Furthermore, it is shown that the decay of metastable states can be described by simple exponential decay rates.  相似文献

In this paper we report on both a theoretical model for the transients in optical bistability in a Fabry-Perot cavity and the corresponding experimental results. An analytical calculation permits to predict the shape of the transient curves and the order of magnitude of their time duration in the case of a slow sweep of the length of the cavity. The experiment, which uses the nonlinearity arising from a two-photon transition in rubidium, yields results in good agreement with the theoretical calculation.Work supported by the D.R.E.T.  相似文献

We discuss two serially coupled ring cavities which contain media modelled by an ensemble of homogeneously broadened two-state atoms. This system produces pulsed outputs for appropriate CW inputs and values of the cooperativity parameters in the absorptive regime. In particular, self-pulsing occurs when both stable and unstable steady-state output versus input characteristics are everywhere monotomic with positive slope. An analytic requirement for this self-pulsing is obtained in the absorptive case.  相似文献

We investigate the influence of the nonsecular terms on the optical bistability in a photonic-crystal single-atom laser. The nonsecular terms result in a significant reduction of the bistability threshold. The effect of lightwave intensity fluctuations on absorption bistability in the region of exciton resonances is studied. Below a critical magnitude of the incident laser radiation, bistability of the exciton states is induced by external noise, whereas above this magnitude the effect of external noise shifts the region of bistability to somewhat higher intensities of the incident light. Absorptive bistability loops are computed for a laser beam with a gaussian input spatial profile incident on a unidirectional ring cavity containing a saturable nonlinear medium. Sharp radially dependent switching with wide bistable loops is predicted for large Fresnel numbers. Intermediate Fresnel numbers result in whole beam switching with significant narrowing of the associated bistable loops. At low Fresnel numbers, bistability can disappear. Radially integrated hysteresis loops differ quantitatively from plane-wave predictions.  相似文献

Using the full vectorial nonlinear Schr?dinger equations that describe nonlinear processes in isotropic optical nanowires, we show that there exist structural anisotropic nonlinearities that lead to unstable polarization states that exhibit periodic bistable behavior. We analyze and solve the nonlinear equations for continuous waves by means of a Lagrangian formulation and show that the system has bistable states and also kink solitons that are limiting forms of the bistable states.  相似文献

By use of circularly polarized light we have exploited optical pumping within the Zeeman sublevels of the ground state to obtain optical bistability in sodium vapours with low threshold power (around 1 mW) and a wide tuning range (>12 GHz). The role of critical slowing down in optical bistability is discussed, taking fully into account the non-linear effects.
