By using an easy-axis antiferromagnetic material as an example, the conditions are found under the fulfillment of which, the quadratic magneto-optical interaction in an external dc electric field perpendicular to the easy axis gives rise to the formation of a new type of virtual surface magnetic TM polaritons at the interface both between an antiferromagnet and an ideal metal and between an antiferromagnet and vacuum.  相似文献

We present the calculation of phonon life time at low frequencies in an amorphous solid, which is assumed to be characterized by an elasticity that exhibits spatial fluctuation. Thermodynamic Green’s function method is used to compute phonon self-energy, and an iterative method is devised to obtain an improvement upon the first order perturbation calculation. The elasticity correlation is taken to be an exponentially falling function of distance. We obtain an inverse life time that varies as the fourth power of phonon frequency for small values of the latter, and whose frequency-dependence becomes weaker and weaker as the frequency increases.  相似文献

We suggest to start an accelerator physics project called the Mainz Energy recovering Superconducting Accelerator (MESA) as an extension to our experimental facilities. MESA may allow to introduce an innovative internal target regime based on the ERL principle. The problem of sound diffraction by an absorbing sphere due to a monopole point source was investigated. The theoretical models were extended to consider the case of sound diffraction by an absorbing sphere with a locally reacting boundary or an extended reaction boundary placed above an outdoor ground surface of finite impedance. The separation of variables techniques and appropriate wave field expansions were used to derive the analytical solutions. By adopting an image method, the solutions could be formulated to account for the multiple scattering of sound between the sphere and its image near a flat acoustically hard or an impedance ground. The effect of ground on the reflected sound fields was incorporated in the theoretical model by employing an approximate analytical solution known as the Weyl-van der Pol formula. An approximation solution was suggested to determine the scattering coefficients from a set of linearly coupled complex equations for an absorbing sphere not too close to the ground. The approximate method substantially reduced the computational time for calculating the sound field. Preliminary measurements were conducted to characterize the acoustical properties of an absorbing sphere made of open cell polyurethane foam. Subsequent experiments were carried out to demonstrate the validity of the proposed theoretical models for various source/receiver configurations around the sphere above an acoustically hard ground and an impedance ground. Satisfactory comparative results were obtained between the theoretical predictions and experimental data. It was found that the theoretical predictions derived from the approximate solution agreed well with the results obtained by using the exact solutions.  相似文献

A formalism is developed to study stimulated emission by external sources in relativistic quantum field theory as a generalization of an earlier work involving essentially noninteracting particles. A general expression is derived for transition amplitudes for the production of an arbitrary number of particles, as final products, by emission sources when there is initially an arbitrary number of particles before the intervention of the emission sources, thus stimulating the latter for further emissions. An application to quantum electrodynamics is then given in the presence of an external electromagnetic current with an initial background radiation of an arbitrary number of photons with unspecified momenta and spins leading to an electron-positron pair as final products.  相似文献

The effect of a change of noise amplitudes in overdamped diffusive systems is linked to their unperturbed behavior by means of a nonequilibrium fluctuation–response relation. This formula holds also for systems with state-independent nontrivial diffusivity matrices, as we show with an application to an experiment of two trapped and hydrodynamically coupled colloids, one of which is subject to an external random forcing that mimics an effective temperature. The nonequilibrium susceptibility of the energy to a variation of this driving is an example of our formulation, which improves an earlier version, as it does not depend on the time-discretization of the stochastic dynamics. This scheme holds for generic systems with additive noise and can be easily implemented numerically, thanks to matrix operations.  相似文献

We investigate the problem of teleportation of an M-qubit state by using an entangled qudit pair as a quantum channel and show that the teleportation of a multiparticle state can correspond to the teleportation of a multi-dimensional state. We also introduce a quantum-state converter composed of beamsplitter arrays, on/off-detectors and cross-Kerr couplers and demonstrate that the state conversion from an M-qubit to an N-dimensional qudit and vice versa can be implemented with this converter, where N=2^M. Based on this, an experimentally feasible scheme for the teleportation of an M-qubit via an entangled N-level qudit pair channel is proposed.  相似文献

Spin is an intrinsic property of the photon. A method for using an externally applied dc electric field to manipulate the transfer of spin angular momentum of light in an optically active medium is presented. To discuss this, we first develop a wave coupling theory of the mutual action of natural optical activity and the linear electro-optic effect. Besides being used for analyzing the electrically controlled transfer of spin angular momentum of light, the theory can also be used to describe the propagation of light traveling along an arbitrary direction in any optically active medium with an external dc electric field along an arbitrary direction.  相似文献

Light scattering and luminescence under resonant optical excitation are shown to correspond to an interference fringe and broad background, respectively, in an optical interference experiment, if suitable definitions for the above two processes are adopted. It is proposed to discriminate between these two by a polarization measurement which is analogous to an interference experiment. The results of such an experiment in ZnSe and ZnTe are also reported.  相似文献

The virtual source technique, which is based on the boundary integral method, provides the means to impose boundary conditions on arbitrarily shaped boundaries by replacing them by a collection of sources whose amplitudes are determined from the boundary conditions. In this paper the virtual source technique is used to model propagation of waves in a range-dependent ocean overlying an elastic bottom with arbitrarily shaped ocean-bottom interface. The method is applied to propagation in an elastic Pekeris waveguide, an acoustic wedge, and an elastic wedge. In the case of propagation in an elastic Pekeris waveguide, the results agree very well with those obtained from the wavenumber integral technique, as they do with the solution of the parabolic equation (PE) technique in the case of propagation in an acoustic wedge. The results for propagation in an elastic wedge qualitatively agree with those obtained from an elastic PE solution.  相似文献

The antiproton is a unique projectile in the study of atomic collision physics. With an aim to produce an antiproton beam at atomic-physics energies for ‘pure’ collision experiments, we have so far developed techniques to decelerate, cool and confine antiprotons in vacuo. Our recent success in stable extraction of the beam has opened up the possibility to study ionization and atomic capture processes between an antiproton and an atom at an unprecedented low energy from 10 eV to 1 keV under the single-collision condition. We have prepared a powerful supersonic helium gas jet to be crossed with the antiproton beam. The reaction rate is of the order of 10???4, and rigorous identification of particles is required for reduction of huge background counts. The reaction events are recognized by an electron signal followed by antiproton annihilation with an appropriate interval in the time of flight. Our design and strategy of the experiment are presented.  相似文献

The problem on the diffraction of an acoustic wave by a finite-size scatterer (inclusion) located in a halfspace is considered. The method of solving this problem is based on the use of the scattering amplitude of the inclusion. A formula analogous to the Green formula is presented. It allows one to determine the scattering amplitude of the inclusion for an arbitrary incident wave (determined by the directional pattern of the source of primary waves) from the scattering amplitude corresponding to plane incident waves. The algorithm is presented for solving the problem on the operation of an acoustically opaque radiator in a halfspace whose boundary is characterized by an arbitrary reflection coefficient. As an example, the problem is solved on the generation of low-frequency oscillations by a sphere with an acoustically soft boundary near an acoustically hard or soft boundary of the halfspace.  相似文献

We consider the interaction of a polarized electromagnetic wave in a magnetically ordered crystal plate surrounded by an isotropic ambient at the normal incidence. The crystalline medium of the plate is specified by the general non-symmetric permittivity tensor. The results are expressed in terms of the transmission and reflection matrices which relate the electric fields of the incident wave to those of transmitted and reflected waves. Their applications are illustrated by examples of an isotropic plate magnetized normal to the interface, a cubic crystal magnetized parallel to the interface and an orthorhombic crystal magnetized along the axis normal to the interface. The effect of the reflection from the interfaces and the interference effect are included. The paper treats the reflection at an interface between an isotropic ambient and an absorbing magnetic crystal at small non-zero angles of incidence. The general reflection matrix is applied to the determination of the magneto-optical effects quadratic in magnetization.  相似文献

A mechanism of action of a shock wave on an active medium, which leads to an additional energy release source, is considered. This source moves together with the shock wave front and depends on the magnitude and direction of the electric field applied to the plasma and on the current density in the plasma. The study is a continuation of an earlier publication devoted to the propagation of weak shock waves. Here, we consider shock waves of an arbitrary intensity with an arbitrary mechanism of formation of an additional energy contribution due to variation of the parameters of the medium as a result of passage of the shock wave. Special cases of this effect are the propagation of a shock wave in a plasma and detonation burning.  相似文献

We propose an experiment to observe coherent oscillations in a single quantum dot with the oscillations driven by spin-orbit interaction. This is achieved without spin-polarized leads, and relies on changing the strength of the spin-orbit coupling via an applied gate pulse. We derive an effective model of this system which is formally equivalent to the Jaynes-Cummings model of quantum optics. For parameters relevant to an InGaAs dot, we calculate a Rabi frequency of 2 GHz.  相似文献

Mathematical tradition has it that transformations characterized by a negative Jacobian determinant are referred to as improper transformations. The symmetry of a physical object corresponding to such an improper transformation becomes an improper symmetry. Improper symmetries have been successfully used for the purpose of crystal symmetry. The extension of these purely spatial symmetries to the domain of spacetime has led to a prejudicial use of light-cone properties, thus affecting adversely an unbiased symmetry classification. We pinpoint these prejudicial procedures and trace their historical origin, while presenting an alternative that restores an unbiased treatment of improper spacetime symmetries. The applications discussed relate to recent developments in the symmetry classification of magnetic crystals and to the extension of Neumann's principle to the time domain.  相似文献

Electronic coupling between Wannier and Frenkel excitons in an inorganic/organic semiconductor hybrid structure is experimentally observed. Time-resolved photoluminescence and excitation spectroscopy directly demonstrate that electronic excitation energy can be transferred with an efficiency of up to 50% from an inorganic ZnO quantum well to an organic [2,2-p-phenylenebis-(5-phenyloxazol), alpha-sexithiophene] overlayer. The coupling is mediated via dipole-dipole-interaction analog to the F?rster transfer in donor-acceptor systems.  相似文献

We investigate a multidimensional system described by a set of stochastic differential equations in which the multiplicative noise is assumed to be an O-U noise. With the help of the projection operator technique, we derive an integrodifferential equation for the probability density and an approximate equation for the mean first-passage time (MFPT).Under some approximation, we obtain an effective Fokker-Planck equation and apply the equation to the single mode laser problem.
