Activated carbon fibers (ACFS) with surface area of 1388 m2/g prepared from paper by chemical activation with KOH has been utilized as the adsorbent for the removal of methy-lene blue from aqueous solution. The experimental data were analyzed by Langmuir and Freundlich models of adsorption. The effects of pH value on the adsorption capacity of ACFS were also investigated. The rates of adsorption were found to conform to the kinetic model of Pseudo-second-order equation with high values of the correlation coefficients (R>0.998). The Langmuir isotherm was found to fit the experimental data better than the Feundlich isotherm over the whole concentration range. Maximum adsorption capacity of 520 mg/g at equilibrium was achieved. It was found that pH played a major role in the adsorption process, higher pH value favored the adsorption of MB.  相似文献

The adsorption of methylene blue (MB) dye from aqueous solution onto a cashew nut shell (CNS) was investigated as a function of parameters such as solution pH, CNS dose, contact time, initial MB dye concentration and temperature. The CNS was shown to be effective for the quantitative removal of MB dye, and the equilibrium was reached in 60 min. The experimental data were analysed by two-parameter isotherms (Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin and Dubinin-Radushkevich models) using nonlinear regression analysis. The characteristic parameters for each isotherm and the related correlation coefficients were determined. Thermodynamic parameters such as ΔG°, ΔH° and ΔS° were also evaluated, the sorption process was found to be spontaneous and exothermic. Pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order and Elovich kinetic models were used to analyze the adsorption process. The results of the kinetic study suggest that the adsorption of MB dye matches the pseudo-second-order equation, suggesting that the adsorption process is presumably chemisorption. The adsorption process was found to be controlled by both surface and pore diffusion. Analysis of adsorption data using a Boyd kinetic plot confirmed that the external mass transfer is a rate determining step in the sorption process. A single-stage batch adsorber was designed for different CNS doses to effluent volume ratios using the Freundlich equation. The results indicated that the CNS could be used effectively to adsorb MB dye from aqueous solutions.  相似文献

Chemically synthesized conducting polyaniline (PANI) was investigated as adsorbent for its possible application in the removal of organic dyes, such as methylene blue (MB) and procion red (PR) from their aqueous solution. PANI adsorbent behaves as a charged surface upon post‐synthesis treatment of the polymer with acid and base. The adsorbent thus treated shows a high selectivity for the removal of dyes in the adsorption process. The Langmuir adsorption isotherm was used to represent the experimental adsorption data. The cationic dye, MB can be preferentially removed by the base‐treated PANI while the anionic dye, PR is predominately removed by the acid‐treated one. These observations were further evidenced from the measurements of molar conductance and pH of the dye solutions employed for adsorption. The finding can be explained considering the electrostatic nature of adsorption coupled with the morphology of the PANI surface thus treated. Copyright © 2004 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) was modified with pyridone derivatives such as pyridone diester (PDE) and pyridone diacid (PDA) by using succinic acid anhydride as a linker. The modified MCCs were characterized by the fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis, elemental analysis and solid state 13C NMR. The adsorption capacities of the modified MCCs to cationic dyes were examined by using methylene blue (MB) as a model dye. It was found that the kinetic adsorption data followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model, and the adsorption equilibriums were reached less than 10 min. The isothermal adsorption data were fitted with the Langmuir isotherm model very well, from which the maximum adsorption capacities of the MCCs modified with PDE and PDA were determined to be 101.01 and 142.86 mg/g, respectively. Further investigation showed that the modified MCCs were pH-dependent for adsorption of MB in aqueous solutions. The modified MCCs could be used for removal of MB from an aqueous solution at pH 8, and reused by regeneration in an acidic solution. It was tested that the modified MCCs had a high reusability for removal of MB from aqueous solutions, and still maintained high adsorption capacities even after multiple cycles of desorption–adsorption processes. Hence, the MCCs modified with PDE and PDA could be an effective and efficient approach to removal of cationic dyes from aqueous solutions.  相似文献

The mesoporous carbon CMK-3 adsorbent was prepared, characterized, and used for the removal of anionic methyl orange dye from aqueous solution. Adsorption experiments were carried out as batch studies at different contact time, pH, initial dye concentration, and salt concentration. The dye adsorption equilibrium was rapidly attained after 60 min of contact time. Removal of dye in acidic solutions was better than in basic solutions. The adsorption of dye increased with increasing initial dye concentration and salt concentration. The equilibrium data were analyzed by the Langmuir and Freundlich models, which revealed that Langmuir model was more suitable to describe the methyl orange adsorption than Freundlich model. Experimental data were analyzed using pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order kinetic models. It was found that kinetics followed a pseudo-second-order equation. Thermodynamic study showed that the adsorption was a spontaneous and exothermic process.  相似文献

Mesoporous carbon was synthesized for the removal of a cationic dye malachite green (MG) from aqueous solution. The studies were carried out under various experimental conditions such as contact time, dye concentration, adsorption dose and pH to assess the potentiality of mesoporous carbon for the removal of malachite green dye from wastewater. The sorption equilibrium was reached within 30 min. In order to determine the adsorption capacity, the sorption data were analyzed using linear form of Langmuir and Freundlich equation. Langmuir equation showed higher conformity than Freundlich equation. More than 99% removal of MG was reached at the optimum pH value of 8.5. From kinetic experiments, it was concluded that the sorption process followed the pseudo-first-order kinetic model. This study showed that mesoporous carbon can be recommended as an excellent adsorbent at high pH values.  相似文献

The adsorption of cationic Methylene Blue (MB) and anionic Procion Crimson H-EXL (PC) dyes from aqueous medium on pyrophyllite was studied. Changes in the electrokinetics of pyrophyllite as a function of pH were investigated in the absence and presence of multivalent cations. The results show that pyrophyllite in water exhibits a negative surface charge within the range pH 2-12. Pyrophyllite is found to be a novel adsorbent for versatile removal of cationic and anionic dyes. The negative hydrophilic surface sites of pyrophyllite are responsible for the adsorption of cationic MB molecules. The adsorption of anionic PC dye is possible after a charge reversal by the addition of trivalent cation of Al. Nearly 2 min of contact time are found to be sufficient for the adsorption of both dyes to reach equilibrium. The experimental data follow a Langmuir isotherm with adsorption capacities of 70.42 and 71.43 mg dye per gram of pyrophyllite for MB and PC, respectively. For the adsorption of both MB and PC dyes, the pseudo-second-order chemical reaction kinetics provides the best correlation of the experimental data.  相似文献

The interaction of methylene blue (MB) dye with natural coal (collected from coal landfills of the Kosovo Energy Corporation) in aqueous solutions was studied using adsorption, kinetics, and thermodynamic data, and Monte Carlo (MC) calculations. In a batch procedure, the effects of contact duration, initial MB concentration, pH, and solution temperature on the adsorption process were examined. The Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin, and Dubinin–Radushkevich (D–R) isotherms were used to examine the equilibrium adsorption data. The equilibrium data fit well to the Freundlich and Langmuir adsorption isotherm models; however, the Freundlich model suited the adsorption data to a slightly better extent than the Langmuir model. The kinetics experimental data was fitted using pseudo-first-order, first-order, pseudo-second-order, second-order, Elvoich equation, and diffusion models. The pseudo-second-order rate model manifested a superlative fit to the experimental data, while the adsorption of MB onto coal is regulated by both liquid film and intraparticle diffusions at the same time. Thermodynamic parameters, such as Gibbs free energy (ΔG0), enthalpy (ΔH0), and entropy (ΔS0) were calculated. The adsorption of MB was confirmed to be spontaneous and endothermic. The theoretical results were in agreement with the experimental ones.  相似文献

Batch adsorption experiments were carried out for the removal of methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solution using attapulgite as adsorbent. The effects of various parameters such as temperature, contact time, the pH value, and attapulgite dosage on the adsorption performance were investigated. The standard curve and regression equation were established by spectrophotometry. The adsorption experimental results showed that the adsorption equilibrium data were well in accord with Langmuir adsorptive model. The optimal result was acquired under the experimental condition of attapulgite dosage 0.18g, MB concentration 50.0mg/L, pH 10, and adsorption time 20min at room temperature.  相似文献

The contamination with toxic dyes is the most important problem facing all over the world for water sources, environment and living beings. Therefore, in present study, the removal of fuchsin dye from aqueous environment was investigated using fish bones as source of biogenic apatite to the best removal efficiency. The removal efficiency of the adsorbent was investigated as a function of contact time and initial dye concentration. The highest removal capacity was found to 14.75 mg/g. The experimental data generally exhibit a good compliance with the pseudo-second-order equation. Langmuir and Freundlich models were also applied to experimental equilibrium data to find the best adsorption isotherm. Weber-Morris and Urano-Tachikawa models were used to calculate diffusion constants. The results were showed that fish bones can be effectively used as a sorbent for the removal of basic dyes from aqueous solutions.  相似文献

The removal of cationic dyes, methylene blue(MB) and rhodamine B(RB), and anionic dyes, methyl or-ange(MO) and eosin Y(EY), from aqueous solutions by adsorption using Cu2Se nanoparticles(Cu2SeNPs) was studied. The effects of the initial pH values, adsorbent doses, contact time, initial dye concentrations, salt concentrations, and operation temperatures on the adsorption capacities were investigated. The adsorption process was better fitted the Langmuir equation and pseudo-second-order kinetic model, and was spontaneous and endothermic as well. The adsorption mechanism was probably based on the electrostatic interactions and π-π interactions between Cu2SeNPs and dyes. For an adsorbent of 0.4 g/L of Cu2SeNPs, the adsorption capacities of 23.1(MB), 22.9(RB) and 23.9(EY) mg/g were achieved, respectively, with an initial dye concentration of 10 mg/g(pH=8 for MB and pH=4 for RB and EY) and a contact time of 120 min. The removal rate of MB was still 70.4% for Cu2SeNPs being reused in the 5th cycle. Furthermore, the recycled Cu2SeNPs produced from selenium nanoparticles adsorbing copper were also an effective adsorbent for the removal of dyes. Cu2SeNPs showed great potential as a new adsorbent for dyes removal due to its good stability, functionalization and reusability.  相似文献

Jute fiber obtained from the stem of a plant was used to prepare activated carbon using phosphoric acid. Feasibility of employing this jute fiber activated carbon (JFC) for the removal of Methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solution was investigated. The adsorption of MB on JFC has found to dependent on contact time, MB concentration and pH. Experimental result follows Langmuir isotherm model and the capacity was found to be 225.64 mg/g. The optimum pH for the MB removal was found to be 5-10. The kinetic data obtained at different concentrations have been analyzed using a pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order equation, intraparticle diffusion and Elovich equation. Among the kinetic models studied, the intraparticle diffusion was the best applicable model to describe the adsorption of MB onto JFC.  相似文献

Neem sawdust was used to develop an effective carbon adsorbent. This adsorbent was used for the removal of Congo Red (CR) from aqueous solution. The data suggest that the pH of aqueous solutions influences CR removal due to the decrease of removal efficiency with increasing pH. An optimal pH < 3 for the adsorption of CR onto neem sawdust carbon (NSDC) was determined. The experimental data were analysed by the Langmuir, Freundlich, Redlich-Peterson, Toth, Temkin, Sips and Dubinin-Radushkevich models of adsorption. Three simplified kinetic models based on pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order and intraparticle diffusion equations were used to describe the adsorption process. It was shown that the adsorption of CR could be described by the pseudo-second-order equation, suggesting that the adsorption occurs as a chemisorption process. The results indicate that the NSDC can be used as a low cost adsorbent alternative to commercial activated carbon for the removal of dyes from wastewaters.  相似文献

This work studied the optimization of preparation conditions of Pentace species sawdust activated carbon (PSAC) via microwave-induced KOH activation for the adsorption of methylene blue (MB) dye from aqueous solutions. The produced activated carbon was characterised through Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area and pore structural analysis, proximate and ultimate, scanning electron microscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Response surface methodology technique was used to optimize the radiation power, radiation time and impregnation ratio for MB removal and PSAC yield through central composite design. The optimum preparation conditions for PSAC were obtained at a radiation power of 418 W, radiation time of 6.4 min, and an impregnation ratio of 0.5, which resulted in 27% PSAC yield and 93.74% MB removal. A mesoporous structure of PSAC was formed, with a BET surface area, total pore volume and average pore diameter of 914.15 m2/g, 0.52 cm3/g, and 3.19 nm, respectively. The experimental kinetic data were well described by a pseudo-second-order model and intraparticle diffusion. Adsorption data fitted the Redlich–Peterson equation better than the Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin, Dubinin–Radushkevich and Sips equations. However, the exponential value of Redlich–Peterson approached unity, hence, resulting in the original Langmuir equation, with adsorption capacity of 357.14 mg/g. The adsorption performance was effectively preserved even after four consecutive cycles, demonstrating good regeneration ability.  相似文献

This study evaluated the feasibility of Rhodamine-B dye (Rh B) removal from aqueous solution, using Lead-Iron Oxide nanoparticles Loaded Activated Carbon (FePbO@AC). The parameters like pH, contact time, adsorbent/adsorbate dosage and temperature on adsorption was studied. Optimized conditions are pH of 7.0, 25?min contact time, 50?ppm of dye concentration and 200?mg of adsorbent concentration. The kinetics of adsorption was calculated using pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order, and intra-particle diffusion models. The calculations revealed that the pseudo-second-order kinetic equation best-fit the adsorption data. The Langmuir isotherm model best fit the equilibrium data. The maximum sorption capacity (Qmax) for dye is 1000?mg Rh B/g FePbO@AC. Change in entropy (ΔS), Gibb’s free energy change (ΔG), and enthalpy (ΔH) were calculated for the adsorption of Rh B dye.  相似文献

This research deals with the application of wood sawdust obtained from walnut and its polypyrrole (PPy) coated form for the removal of methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solutions. MB, a typical cationic dye, was used as a test probe. Coating of sawdust was carried out chemically via direct addition of chemical oxidant (FeCl3) on the sawdust which was previously soaked in monomer solution (0.2 M pyrrole). Adsorption experiments were carried out using both batch and fixed bed column systems. The effects of different system variables such as adsorbent dose, initial dye concentration, pH of test solution, contact time and breakthrough curves were studied. In order to find out the possibility of reuse, desorption study was also carried out in this investigation. It was found that both SD and PPy/SD are efficient and cost-effective adsorbents for the removal of MB dye from aqueous solutions. The collected data in this research indicate that compared with PPy/SD, adsorption of MB by SD is not a very pH dependent process, at least from pH 4 to 10. Higher sorption percentage of MB is obtained for PPy/SD at alkaline pHs.  相似文献

Cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) prepared from cellulose fibre via sulfuric acid hydrolysis was used as an adsorbent for the removal of methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solution. The effects of pH, adsorbent dosage, temperature, ionic strength, initial dye concentration were studied to optimize the conditions for the maximum adsorption of dye. Adsorption equilibrium data was fitted to both Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models, where the Langmuir model better described the adsorption process. The maximum adsorption capacity was 118 mg dye/g CNC at 25 °C and pH 9. Calculated thermodynamic parameters, such as free energy change (ΔG = ?20.8 kJ/mol), enthalpy change (ΔH = ?3.45 kJ/mol), and entropy change (ΔS = 0.58 kJ/mol K) indicates that MB adsorption on CNCs is a spontaneous exothermic process. Tunability of the adsorption capacity by surface modification of CNCs was shown by oxidizing the primary hydroxyl groups on the CNC surface with TEMPO reagent and the adsorption capacity was increased from 118 to 769 mg dye/g CNC.  相似文献

A magnetic adsorbent was synthesized by modification of activated carbons with magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (AC‐MIONs). The preparation method is fast and could be carried out in an ordinary condition. The AC‐MIONs were used as quite efficient adsorbents for separation of methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solution in a batch process. The effect of different parameters such as pH, temperature, electrolyte concentration, contact time and interfering ions on the removal of MB were studied. The adsorption data were analyzed by Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models and a maximum adsorption amount of 47.62 mg g‐1 and a langmuir adsorption equilibrium constant of 3.0 L mg‐1 were obtained. The obtained results revealed that AC‐MIONs were effective adsorbents for fast removal of MB from different aqueous solutions. This adsorbent was successfully used for removal of MB from Karoon River water.  相似文献
