In this paper, a numerical method is presented to solve singularly-perturbed two-point boundary-value problems for second-order ordinary differential equations with a discontinuous source term. First, an asymptotic expansion approximation of the solution of the boundary-value problem is constructed using the basic ideas of the well-known WKB perturbation method. Then, some initial-value problems and terminal-value problems are constructed such that their solutions are the terms of this asymptotic expansion. These initial-value problems and terminal-value problems are singularly-perturbed problems and therefore fitted mesh method (Shishkin mesh) are used to solve these problems. Necessary error estimates are derived and examples are provided to illustrate the method.  相似文献

We analyze an extension of backward differentiation formulas, used as boundary value methods, that generates a class of methods with nice stability and convergence properties. These methods are obtained starting from the boundary value GBDFs class, and are in the class of EBDF-type methods. We discuss different ways of using these linear multistep formulas in order to have efficient parallel implementations. Numerical experiments show their effectiveness.  相似文献

In this paper we present an efficient numerical algorithm for solving linear and nonlinear boundary value problems with two-point boundary conditions of tenth-order. The differential transform method is applied to construct the numerical solutions. The proposed algorithm avoids the complexity provided by other numerical approaches. Several illustrative examples are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the present algorithm.   相似文献

The paper determines the location of the steady state interface between fresh and saltwater in a plane coastal aquifer. The lower boundary is totally impervious while the upper one is impervious below land and semi-pervious below the sea allowing an outflow through this part of the upper boundary. The model equations reduce to two boundary value problems, one valid in x < 0 and the other in x > 0 here x is measured along the aquifer with the origin at the coast. In each region unknown boundaries have to be determined as part of the solution using boundary and continuity conditions. Two cases are presented using the Dupuit approximation. One where the solution can be written down in terms of elementary functions and the other in which we have to use a phase space analysis.  相似文献

Within group invariance theory we consider a constructive approach in order to define numerical transformation methods. These are initial-value methods for the solution of boundary value problems governed by ordinary differential equations. Here we consider the class of free boundary value problems governed by the most general second-order equation in normal form. For this class of problems the main theorem is concerned with the definition of an iterative transformation method. The definition of a noniterative method, applicable to a subclass of the original class of problems, follows as a corollary. Therefore, the proposed constructive approach allows us to establish a unifying framework for noniterative and iterative transformation methods.  相似文献

We consider quasilinear singular perturbation problems of the form εy+p(x)y+q(x,y)=h(x),x[0,1];y(0)=,y(1)=β with a boundary layer at one end point. The original problem is reduced to an asymptotically equivalent linear first order initial-value problem (IVP). Then, a variable step size initial value algorithm is applied to solve this (IVP). The algorithm is based on the locally exact integration of quadratic linearized problem coefficients on a non-uniform mesh. Two term-recurrence relation with controlled step size is obtained. Several problems are solved to demonstrate the applicability and efficiency of the algorithm. It is observed that the present method approximates the exact solution very well.  相似文献

In this work, a novel approach for the solution of the inverse conductivity problem from one and multiple boundary measurements has been developed on the basis of the implication of the framework of BV functions. The space of the functions of bounded variation is recommended here as the most appropriate functional space hosting the conductivity profile under reconstruction. For the numerical investigation of the inversion of the inclusion problem, we propose and implement a suitable minimization scheme of an enriched—constructed herein—functional, by exploiting the inner structure of BV space. In this paper we prove unique solvability of the generalized Stokes resolvent equations in an infinite layer Ω0 = ℝn –1 × (–1, 1), n ≥ 2, in Lq ‐Sobolev spaces, 1 < q < ∞, with slip boundary condition of on the “upper boundary” ∂Ω+0 = ℝn –1 × {1} and non‐slip boundary condition on the “lower boundary” ∂Ω0 = ℝn –1 × {–1}. The solution operator to the Stokes system will be expressed with the aid of the solution operators of the Laplace resolvent equation and a Mikhlin multiplier operator acting on the boundary. This survey paper contains a surprisingly large amount of material and indeed can serve as an introduction to some of the ideas and methods of singular perturbation theory. Starting from Prandtl's work a large amount of work has been done in the area of singular perturbations. This paper limits its coverage to some standard singular perturbation models considered by various workers and the numerical methods developed by numerous researchers after 1984–2000. The work done in this area during the period 1905–1984 has already been surveyed by the first author of this paper, see [Appl. Math. Comput. 30 (1989) 223] for details. Due to the space constraints we have covered only singularly perturbed one-dimensional problems.  相似文献
