We prove three new dichotomies for Banach spaces à la W.T. Gowers' dichotomies. The three dichotomies characterise respectively the spaces having no minimal subspaces, having no subsequentially minimal basic sequences, and having no subspaces crudely finitely representable in all of their subspaces. We subsequently use these results to make progress on Gowers' program of classifying Banach spaces by finding characteristic spaces present in every space. Also, the results are used to embed any partial order of size 1 into the subspaces of any space without a minimal subspace ordered by isomorphic embeddability.  相似文献

In this paper we introduce the concepts of fuzzy TL-uniform spaces by means of coverings, where T stands for any continuous triangular norm. We show that the structure of covering TL-uniform spaces are isomorphic to fuzzy TL-uniform spaces as defined by Hashem and Morsi (2006) [4]. In particular, we study the continuity of functions between covering TL-uniform spaces, the I-topological space associated with a covering TL-uniform space. Also, we define the notions of level covering uniformities for a covering TL-uniformity. Moreover, we deduce a number of functors between categories of covering TL-uniform spaces, fuzzy TL-uniform spaces, covering uniform spaces and uniform spaces.  相似文献

We investigate the properties of the Extended Fock Basis (EFB) of Clifford algebras [1] with which one can replace the traditional multivector expansion of ${\mathcal{C} \ell(g)}$ with an expansion in terms of simple (also: pure) spinors. We show that a Clifford algebra with 2m generators is the direct sum of 2 m spinor subspaces S characterized as being left eigenvectors of ??; furthermore we prove that the well known isomorphism between simple spinors and totally null planes holds only within one of these spinor subspaces. We also show a new symmetry between spinor and vector spaces: similarly to a vector space of dimension 2m that contains totally null planes of maximal dimension m, also a spinor space of dimension 2 m contains ??totally simple planes??, subspaces made entirely of simple spinors, of maximal dimension m.  相似文献

We will introduce the countable separation property (CSP) of Banach spaces X, which is defined as follows: X has CSP if each family E of closed linear subspaces of X whose intersection is the zero space contains a countable subfamily E0 with the same intersection. All separable Banach spaces have CSP and plenty of examples of non-separable CSP spaces are provided. Connections of CSP with Marku?evi?-bases, Corson property and related geometric issues are discussed.  相似文献

A formula is given for the orthogonal complement of any vector subspace of l2. Countably infinite adjoint subspaces in a Banach space are characterized via solution spaces. In particular, infinite dimensional self-adjoint subspaces in a reflexive Banach space are characterized via solution spaces, generalizing a result in Dunford and Schwartz [“Linear Operators, II,” Interscience, New York, 1963]. Applications are made to closed linear manifolds in l2l2 as well as infinite dimensional, generalized ordinary differential subspaces in a Hilbert space with the boundary conditions imposed on real sequences. We show that any Banach space contains a continuum of non-isomorphic subspaces or a minimal subspace. We define an ergodic Banach space X as a space such that E0 Borel reduces to isomorphism on the set of subspaces of X, and show that every Banach space is either ergodic or contains a subspace with an unconditional basis which is complementably universal for the family of its block-subspaces. We also use our methods to get uniformity results. We show that an unconditional basis of a Banach space, of which every block-subspace is complemented, must be asymptotically c0 or ?p, and we deduce some new characterisations of the classical spaces c0 and ?p.  相似文献

We introduce here the notion of superstable Banach space, as the superproperty associated with the stability property of J. L. Krivine and B. Maurey. IfE is superstable, so are theL p (E) for eachp∈[1, +∞[. If the Banach spaceX uniformly imbeds into a superstable Banach space, then there exists an equivalent invariant superstable distance onX; as a consequenceX contains subspaces isomorphic tol p spaces (for somep∈[1, ∞[). We establish the robustness of linear cocycles in Banach spaces admitting a nonuniform exponential dichotomy. We first obtain robustness results for positive and negative time, by establishing exponential behavior along certain subspaces, and showing that the associated sequences of projections have bounded exponential growth. We then establish a robustness result in Z by constructing explicitly appropriate projections on the stable and unstable subspaces. We emphasize that in general these projections may be different from those obtained separately from the robustness for positive and negative time. We also consider the case of strong nonuniform exponential dichotomies.  相似文献

A projectional skeleton in a Banach space is a σ-directed family of projections onto separable subspaces, covering the entire space. The class of Banach spaces with projectional skeletons is strictly larger than the class of Plichko spaces (i.e. Banach spaces with a countably norming Markushevich basis). We show that every space with a projectional skeleton has a projectional resolution of the identity and has a norming space with similar properties to Σ-spaces. We characterize the existence of a projectional skeleton in terms of elementary substructures, providing simple proofs of known results concerning weakly compactly generated spaces and Plichko spaces. We prove a preservation result for Plichko Banach spaces, involving transfinite sequences of projections. As a corollary, we show that a Banach space is Plichko if and only if it has a commutative projectional skeleton.  相似文献

We study universality problems in Banach space theory. We show that if A is an analytic class, in the Effros-Borel structure of subspaces of C([0,1]), of non-universal separable Banach spaces, then there exists a non-universal separable Banach space Y, with a Schauder basis, that contains isomorphs of each member of A with the bounded approximation property. The proof is based on the amalgamation technique of a class C of separable Banach spaces, introduced in the paper. We show, among others, that there exists a separable Banach space R not containing L1(0,1) such that the indices β and rND are unbounded on the set of Baire-1 elements of the ball of the double dual R∗∗ of R. This answers two questions of H.P. Rosenthal.We also introduce the concept of a strongly bounded class of separable Banach spaces. A class C of separable Banach spaces is strongly bounded if for every analytic subset A of C there exists YC that contains all members of A up to isomorphism. We show that several natural classes of separable Banach spaces are strongly bounded, among them the class of non-universal spaces with a Schauder basis, the class of reflexive spaces with a Schauder basis, the class of spaces with a shrinking Schauder basis and the class of spaces with Schauder basis not containing a minimal Banach space X.  相似文献

The paper encompasses a complete study of the weak-star extensibility of subspaces of Banach spaces introduced by B.S. Mordukhovich and B. Wang when studying the restrictive metric regularity in variational analysis. Many useful properties are presented; in particular, a new point of view and formulation of the property in the framework of Banach space theory is established. We also propose the concept of weak-star extensible Banach spaces that has interesting applications, and is fairly broad in that it contains many important classes of Banach spaces. Some further applications of this extensibility to the theory of linear operators between Banach spaces are also explored.  相似文献

We introduce and study the asymptotically commuting bounded approximation property of Banach spaces. This property is, e.g., enjoyed by any dual space with the bounded approximation property. The principal result is the following: if a Banach space X has the asymptotically λ-commuting bounded approximation property, then X is saturated with locally λ-complemented separable subspaces enjoying the λ-commuting bounded approximation property.  相似文献

We construct an example of a Banach space which is not lush, but whose dual space is lush. This example shows that lushness is not equivalent to numerical index one. A characterization of lushness for some quotient spaces of L1(μ) spaces and new results on C-rich subspaces of (scalar- or vector-valued) C(K) spaces are also presented.  相似文献

Suppose that X and Y are Banach spaces complemented in each other with supplemented subspaces A and B. In 1996, W. T. Gowers solved the Schroeder–Bernstein problem for Banach spaces by showing that X is not necessarily isomorphic to Y. In this paper, we obtain some suitable conditions involving the spaces A and B to yield that X is isomorphic to Y or to provide that at least X m is isomorphic to Yn for some m, n ∈ IN*. So we get some decomposition methods in Banach spaces via supplemented subspaces resembling Pełczyński’s decomposition methods. In order to do this, we introduce several notions of Schroeder–Bernstein Quadruples acting on the spaces X, Y, A and B. Thus, we characterize them by using some Banach spaces recently constructed. In this paper, we are interested in a class of subspaces of C, introduced by Bourgain [Studia Math. 77 (1984) 245-253]. Wojtaszczyk called them rich in his monograph [Banach Spaces for Analysts, Cambridge Univ. Press, 1991]. We give some new examples of such spaces: this allows us to recover previous results of Godefroy-Saab and Kysliakov on spaces with reflexive annihilator in a very simple way. We construct some other examples of rich spaces, hence having property (V) of Pe?czyński and Dunford-Pettis property. We also recover the results due to Bourgain and Saccone saying that spaces of uniformly convergent Fourier series share these properties, by only using the main result of [Studia Math. 77 (1984) 245-253] and some very elementary arguments. The dual of B-valued martingale Hardy space Hs(p)r(B) with small index 0 r ≤ 1,which is associated with the conditional p-variation of B-valued martingale,is characterized.In order to obtain the results,a new type of Campanato spaces for B-valued martingales is introduced and the classical technique of atomic decompositions is improved.Some results obtained here are connected closely with the p-uniform smoothness and q-uniform convexity of the underlying Banach space.  相似文献

The Gurariy space G is defined by the property that for every pair of finite dimensional Banach spaces L ? M, every isometry T: LG admits an extension to an isomorphism \(\mathop T\limits^ \sim :M \to G\) with ‖T‖‖T ?1‖ ≤ 1 + . We investigate the question when we can take \(\mathop T\limits^ \sim \) to be also an isometry (i.e., = 0). We identify a natural class of pairs L ? M such that the above property for this class with = 0 characterises the Gurariy space among all separable Banach spaces. We also show that the Gurariy space G is the only Lindenstrauss space such that its finite-dimensional smooth subspaces are dense in all subspaces.  相似文献

Fusion Banach frames satisfying property S have been studied. A sufficient condition for the existence of a fusion Banach frame satisfying property S in weakly compactly generated Banach spaces has been given. Also, a necessary and sufficient condition for a fusion Banach frame to satisfy property S has been given. Finally, fusion Banach frames satisfying property S have been characterized in terms of closedness of certain subspaces of the dual spaces in the weak*-topology.  相似文献
